http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/7402923/US-woman-charged-with-assault-for -squirting-breast-milk-at-officer.html haha

Could this be the response we could give if challenged for breastfeeding in public? Erm possibly not if we are going to be deemed a biohazard and arrested for assault but still felt the article had to be shared with mumsnet!

Working link

"The sheriff's office said that the deputy went through a "biohazard" decontamination process after the incident"

*Thandeka" Your first link didn't work because of the gap between the brackets and the start of the web address...

Depends if HIV or other diseases can be communicated through breast milk in the mouth/eye/cuts etc.

I have no idea if they can or not, if not then biohazard is rather strong!

I've always said that if anyone made comments about me breastfeeding, I'd squirt em in the eye.

Well done her for the good aim.

lol. I had to squirt DP several times when I first started BF DC1. He kept asking if I was sure I had milk. It was a very effective tactic

Wouldn't do it too a stranger though!

DrivenToDistraction · 10/03/2010 13:35

too? to

DitaVonCheese · 10/03/2010 20:15

I don't know about US law but in the UK it would technically be an assault. I think she should have been charged.

Ozziegirly · 11/03/2010 06:54

Well I am all for breastfeeding anytime anywhere, but even I would be cross if someone squirted me.

But then to be honest I wouldn't be thrilled with anyone throwing anything over me.

TrinityIsFuckingTrying · 11/03/2010 07:04

I would only be bothered in the same way that i would be mildly bothered if someone squirted water at me

StealthPolarBear · 11/03/2010 07:17

is it assault, really?? I didn't realise anyone would have classified it!
I don't think I'd mind being squirted with bm accidentally, but, yes, her intentions here were 'assault' as such. Bit at biohazard though - would other bodily fluids be classed as biohazards?

JackBauer · 11/03/2010 07:27

I'd be pissed off at the same level as if someone spat on me, it's someone else's bodily fluids and you don't know if they have a communicable disease.

What a very random thing to do though.

BouncingTurtle · 11/03/2010 08:22

Actually yes other bodily fluids would be classed as potentially hazardous.

I think what she did was the same as spitting at someone.

I've accidentally squirted DS once, which was quite funny but that woman sounds a bit of a nutter tbh.

DitaVonCheese · 11/03/2010 08:56

I used to cry when I squirted myself with my own bm (I was extremely leaky) - it's so sticky, I hated having it all over me - so not the same as being squirted with water for me. I think other bodily fluids would be counted as biohazards yes. If I had to choose a bodily fluid to be squirted at me, bm would be the one I went for, don't get me wrong, but I wouldn't actually relish the experience.

Have there been cases of blood being used in assault or have I completely made that up?

LoveBeingAMummy · 11/03/2010 09:01

Throwing a glass of water over someone is classed as assault. Anyway if men squirted their bodily fluids at people it would be arrestable, we want to be treated the same as men don't we???

hana · 11/03/2010 09:23

of course she should have been charged, how childish

ImSoNotTelling · 11/03/2010 10:58

Are other body fluids terated as biohazards?

Yes, due to the fact they can kill you if they harbour infection.

I do not know whether HIV, say, could be communicable through a cut, but mothers with HIV can pass this through breastmilk, so I would imagine yes.

I also wouldn't like to have a drunk person deliberately squirting anything into my face.

StealthPolarBear · 11/03/2010 16:20

fair enough if other bodily fluids are classified that way
Agree, I wouldn't care if i was accidentally squirted by a bf mother, but what she did was aggressive

coldtits · 11/03/2010 16:25

It has the same biohazard risk as blood. Just because we feed out babies with it doesn't make it sterile. It's not. And I would be extremely displeased to be squirted with an unknown person's blood, semen or breastmilk. It's a bodily fluid.

StealthPolarBear · 11/03/2010 16:36

Does it really?
I thought it would be more like saliva, not pleasant but sometimes not avoidable
I totally agree that in this situation she was assaulting someone.
