Just saw an advert for this on telly - worth a look!

I'm quite interested actually... what do you think?

my cousins keep seeing the ad for this and going " muuuuuuuuuum you know when the mummies feed the babies their titties get really long like this (showing how far out the nipples come out on their own chest) then collapsing into fits of giggles

kids are so funny - i took my older ds (age 3.9) to breastfeeding group with my then 3mth old ds. A lady there was feeding her dd with EBM in a bottle - he went up to her and asked her "why are you feeding her that ?" with a very confused look on his face!

back to the C4 programme though... I think it sounds very interesting - I have to say, I wouldn't want anyone else feeding my child, but if I had a preemie I would use donated EBM if I didn't have enough myself (I have thought about donating, but there are no milk banks near here) - I would feed another's baby if there was a disaster and the baby would die if he/she didn't get any food - I couldn't see a baby starve to death if I had milk to be able to save him. what are your views on cross-feeding?

DP saw the advert actually and said 'ooh look, a programme for mummy' to DS2 Am I that obsessed with breastfeeding?

I would feed other peoples abbies if the need arose and it wouldn't have to be a life threatening situation

say the mother had to be away suddenly and she didn't want her baby to have a bottle/formula I would feed her child

would appreciate the same for gecko too

i'm really not looking forward to it. just another bf as freakshow C4 prog.

now if they were to focus on how the complete lack of bf support in this country lets down so many mothers who had planned to bf but ended up ff...

I wouldn't mind DS2 having someone elses EBM if I was away enexpectedly I suppose - its better than formula IMO, but I do have problems with thinking about him suckling on another womans breast - It used to be commonplace many years ago with wet nurses especially if a woman had twins, usually her mother would step in to feed if she was struggling.

I'm a bit obsessed with bf prog's too lol. The amount of people that have said to me things along the lines of "the next dc you have, you should bottle feed" or "I couldn't because it's weird".

fishie I agree with you - I think it will only serve those who believe bfing is "dirty" and give them something else to mock us about. In turn I think it could be detrimental to expectant mums who want to bf but will be put off by peoples comments after it is aired.

yes the interview was ok, but it is bizarre (putting it mildly) that she is focusing on wet nursing and milk banks as an alternative to formula rather than women's own milk.

In the link at the top it says Tues 9th at 10pm - maybe its repeated on sunday? - i will check my tv guide now to see if it is on tomorrow or not

i think it will be a hoot to watch! what would possess ANYONE to feed someone else's baby? i know it's a personal thing, but come on...it's just soooo wrong!!

Fishie your right there should be a programme on how to support new mum's with BF!

I think it's all very well approaching the issue logiccally but when it comes down to it, whether you breastfeed or not is rarely about logic but emotions and hormones and supply and sore nips.

It is a marginal interest unless companies are thinkiing of marketing breastmilk - the mind boggles as to how that could be done ethically.

I would have fed somebody else's baby quite happily when I was BFing. I always had far too much milk. I completely understand that a lot of people would gag at the thought of it though.

that may be the case but i still find it very odd, each to their own eh? i was admitted to hospital acutely unwell when my ds was 7 wk and the idea of someone else bf him would have filled me with horror!

surely bf is bonding time between mother and baby and not for your baby to be bf by someone else!! ;-)

and I think if you know the person who would be feeding you lo well, then that would help. I would not want a stranger invading thjat intimacy

I've recently been through surgery - I had to leave a six week old baby for an unknown period - which ended up only being two hours but could have been 8. I expressed milk but he wouldn't accept a bottle the day before surgery. I would have loved to have known that someone else would have nursed him and if one of my friend's kids needed a feed and their mummy was sick of course I would.

When are people going to get their heads round the fact that breastfeeding is about nourishment and does not have a sexual connotation . I suspect this is the line the channel 4 show will end up taking. Which is a shame.

I've recently donated some milk to the SCBU and apparently some mums refuse to give their babies donated milk because it's not theirs, instead favouring formula (ie cow milk). These are sick, premie babies. It seems quite odd to me that they would prefer chemically treated farmyard animal byproducts to the food best designed for babies

I would have actually breastfed another baby I mean. Why not? I don't find this such a strange idea. It doesn't make me uncomfortable.

On the otherhand, I'm really not keen on breastfeeding babies beyond 18 months.. so I understand that everybody has their own 'yardstick' of what they consider normal.
