ok -- can we discuss this thing about boobs sagging as a result of bfing

Tutter · 08/04/2008 20:10

i've read on here that it's being pregnant, rather than bfing, that makes boobs sag

i know this isn't scientific, but in my group of friends, the only ones whose boobs are still up close and personal are those who didn't bfeed, or bfed for a couple of weeks only. the rest of us have lost any fullness/pertness

and -- both dsses favoured my right boob. it is now softer than the left. they were the same as each other before

so -- convince me

oh, and btw, my boobs didn't get any bigger in pregnancy, only once my milk had come in

my tits are fabulous after over 14 months bf 2 children

even the woman in Rigby & Peller said that she didn't believe I'd breastfed .. silly young bitch that she was

give it a year after stopping bf .. and put on a bit of weight

emkana · 08/04/2008 20:13

Well really it doesn't make any odds now does it? What's done is done.

Fwiw my boobs are in a terrible state, have been b/feeding for nearly seven years now , not the same child though.

artichokes · 08/04/2008 20:15

I bfed for 14 months. My pert, bouncy and full breasts are now slightly defated, more saggy than bouncy and blighted by a few stretch marks. Also my left nipple now points slightly towards my arm pit .

zippitippitoes · 08/04/2008 20:18

befoire i breastfed i had inverted nipples so just flat with holes in the middle

since i breastfed for a year i have massive nipples which are p[erfmanently erect and very sensitive lol

i dont know about saggig i think i did that one in by not wearing a bra when iwas in my teens

and of course i am now old

cmotdibbler · 08/04/2008 20:18

22 months of bfing so far, went from a b to an f, and back again, and shape wise, they are exactly the same as before - fullness and pert wise

Mine are ok at the moment as I'm still bfing but when I stopped last time they morphed into spaniel's ears.

Tutter · 08/04/2008 20:22

"icing bags" my friend calls hers

I breastfed both for yr each. Nipples more erect now but my tits are still the best bit of me.
And Twiglett's right. Keep a bit of fat on them.

PatsyCline · 08/04/2008 20:22

Mine are still good and I breastfed both my DDs for six months plus. I have big boobs so I fully expected them to sag and I guess I was careful because I've always considered them one of my few physical assets! I always wore a very good maternity bra and put cushions under the babies to bring them up to nipple level, so there was as little stretching as possible.

Now can we talk about stomachs after c-sections? I do have some major complaints in that area.

Rosieglow · 08/04/2008 20:26

I agree with you tutter - it's the bf that does it. Since stopping feeding (18m) I've gone from a DD to a B cup and now have two very saggy boobs. Still woudn't swap bf for my boobs back though!

bootsmonkey · 08/04/2008 20:28

I think it has to be partly the size you are as well. I have always been quite big - 34DD, went to a 38G when PG, breast fed for two weeks (nightmare, my biggest failure) and am now a 36FF. However, my boobs are definately deflated compared to before. I have been going to the gym alot and have built up the muscle underneath, but now have a sort of double boob, where you can see the muscle tone and then the saggy boob on top. They also depend on where I am in my cycle and somedays are quite impressive, but other days a bit 'odd'. Apart from having a tit job, I don't know what I can do about it... If I lose more weight, it'll only get worse!

FrannyandZooey · 08/04/2008 20:30

Tutter it is horrific until you stop and leave it a while and put some weight on

and I bf for nearly 4 years

I think pg causes the sagging, but bf sucks the fat out of them so they are left emptyish

they do fill up again though - in time and with a few chocolate cakes

and mine are ruddy marvellous again now pg

Indith · 08/04/2008 20:30

I read the same on here tutter, a couple of months after stopping I'm right back down, probably smaller than pre preg and scooping them up into bras

I did also once read on here that they go saggy at first and then things even out a it so I'm going to ignore all the other saggy people on this thread and cling to some hope.

Or get pg again

Oh good Franny. Right then, shall be having having double the cake with kiskidee and turtle next week then. Just hand it over

Tutter · 08/04/2008 20:32

but franny i'm already a stone heavier than pre-ds2

and 2 stones heavier than pre-ds1

i've always been small of nork - 34B or 36A pre-kids

now 36B, but a long way from firm

was up to a D when bfing

cazboldy · 08/04/2008 20:37

I have had 5 dc, and I have bf for a total of 4 and a half years so far, and my boobs are not saggy. They are maybe not so magnificent as they were when pg, but really can't complain

oh and I am a 36dd

mybestfriendiscalledstig · 08/04/2008 20:37

Mine are slightly saggier - but my (very lovely) childfree mate pointed out that so are hers. Thats getting old.

OTOH, I've gone up a cup since bf-ing - very pleasing

HaventSleptForAYear · 08/04/2008 20:46

Hmmm. Mine have almost disappeared but I'm still bf DS2 14 mths... Dread to think what they'll be like when I stop. I am now skinnier than before I got pg though so some perks to it (if not my boobs!).

Possibly they just look teeny to me after pregnancy and bf for so long - my teeny bras fit again so probably same size as before.

Actually after DS1 I found they were ok - my own personal theory is that rapid weight gain or loss is going to cause pbs.

So my theory goes that if you bf for ages, your boobs have plenty of time to "go down" (think deflating balloon - or maybe not that wrinkly ) and don't go too saggy.

However, DH, who spent 2 yrs in Africa, keeps joking that once DS2 has finished, I'll be able to sling them over my shoulder whilst cooking

whomovedmychocolate · 08/04/2008 20:53

Big bloody boobs, still breastfeeding 17 month old DD and pregnant with DS (23 weeks). No more or less saggy than they were, more pneumatic at the minute actually.

But I did drop about four stone between pregnancies, if I didn't it might be different.

Genetically the odds are appalling for me, my mum has loooooonnnnnnngggg boobs at 60 and my granny, well let's just say she could have been mistaken for someone with three tummies right, left and centre. But then, she was braless most of her life.

FrannyandZooey · 08/04/2008 21:05

but when did you stop bf Tutter? it takes a while for the fat stores to get replenished there

seriously, they'll improve
they may not be perfect but they'll be a LOT better

francagoestohollywood · 08/04/2008 21:06

well whatever it was - pregnancy or breastfeeding - mine look like two depressed figs. And I stopped breastfeeding more than 3 yrs ago.....
