ok -- can we discuss this thing about boobs sagging as a result of bfing

i've read on here that it's being pregnant, rather than bfing, that makes boobs sag

i know this isn't scientific, but in my group of friends, the only ones whose boobs are still up close and personal are those who didn't bfeed, or bfed for a couple of weeks only. the rest of us have lost any fullness/pertness

and -- both dsses favoured my right boob. it is now softer than the left. they were the same as each other before

so -- convince me

oh, and btw, my boobs didn't get any bigger in pregnancy, only once my milk had come in

I bf for 7 years (more than one also) and breasts are fine. Helps that I lost 31/2 stone since last bf.

princessmel · 08/04/2008 21:09

Mine are ok. A bit softer thna before bf.
I bf dd for 26m. But I wore a night bra for most of that time and I think that really helped.
Loads of stretch marks though.

beansprout · 08/04/2008 21:11

I am in utter denial about this. I just b/fed ds1 until ds2 was born and am now feeding him, so have not stopped and established the full horror of what is left of my breasts.

Before the whole show I was A cup so I have got rather used to this more fulsome version and I think it's going to be a bit of a pitta bread situation when the time comes.

BBBee · 08/04/2008 21:12

saggy and a bit pointy. Age more than bf IMO.

Just make sure it is a bit cold if you derobe.

BBBee · 08/04/2008 21:13

oh - bf both of mine until thier early teens about 2.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 08/04/2008 21:18

My boobs are just as saggy as they were before I got pg

Seriously though - after nearly a year of not b/feeding - my boobs are no different to how they were before I was pg. Well, the skin is more papery, but, I suspect that is because I'm getting old!!!!

My boobs got HUGE in the first 6 months of b/feeding. They slowly diminished in size after a period of time until they get back to normal. Which probably seems like they are smaller than they were originally but they arent. The fact that so many women wear the wrong size bra in the first place - changes in size are no real indication of anything.

I've b/fed for nearly 3 years in total. I really dont think b/feeding has had a detrimental effect on my bazooms.

princessmel · 08/04/2008 21:19

'pitta bread situation'

VeniVidiVickiQV · 08/04/2008 21:20

It's also the thing with stretchmarks - either you are going to get them (because you lack collagen in your skin) or you wont. No amount of creams or potions will prevent them if you have a certain type of skin.

fishie · 08/04/2008 21:24

mine have never been perky. they didn't get much bigger when i was pg or except in very early days of bf, in fact i think they are better since nips are less flat. there are stretch marks though - ds said 'look mummy, stripey' last week.

Oliveoil · 08/04/2008 21:27

mine were a 34C and still are

I weighed 9 stone 7 and still do

HOWEVER:

my shape is not the same, waist definition has gone and boobs are slightly droopier than before

nothing a good bra and crafty clothes can't fix

LiegeAndLief · 08/04/2008 21:30

Has anyone seen the episode of Family Guy where the baby says to his dad "Just remember, the breasts are mine until the milk dries up and then you can have the remains".

Think that's what's happening to me... cup size smaller than before pg... am hoping things will improve when I stop bfing!

I b/f pretty much on the trot for 7 years and my boobs are in very fine shape - no really any different from how they were pre-children (10 years ago). Certainly not saggy. I guess I usually wear a bra, and as they're only B's there's not much to sag

geekgirl · 08/04/2008 21:50

just read the rest of the thread - I completely agree about the fat stores being replenished slowly. My breasts did look a bit pathetic for about 6 months or so after stopping breastfeeding, but they did return to normal eventually.

Tutter · 08/04/2008 21:55

only stopped a month or so ago franny -- there is hope for me yet eh?

i too wore bras permanently while bfing -- they onlky saw daylight int he shower

Best example I can give is of my Mum who had to stuff a 32A with cottonwool on her wedding day...she didnt have a bust she had bee stings...many years later I can along, she bf me for 9 mths and was left with a B cup, another 7yrs later she bf my brother for 4 mths (only stopped because of abcesses) and was left with a D cup. Shes 74 and is only just beginning to sag!
I have gone from a B to a DD and am 6 months into bf...I'm hoping I've inherited the same frontage

chipmonkey · 08/04/2008 22:50

I never had good breasts, even at 14 I could hold a pencil underneath them! But they are no worse now after 4.8 years of bfing, still haven't graduated to the pencil case!

FrannyandZooey · 09/04/2008 07:52

Tutter a friend of mine who bf 4 children inc twins said give it a year
I found it took less time than that but then I have b or c cup instead of her amazing L cup

they did look grim at first, especially when I lost more weight
when I porked up a bit things improved no end

SmugColditz · 09/04/2008 07:57

My breasts are riddled with stretch marks, and definatly droop. I am 27. I have never breastfed.

popsycal · 09/04/2008 08:17

Only BF ds1 for a few months. I think pregnancy rather than Bf changed them. They were not drastically different though. However, since June 2004, I have been pregnant, then BF, then pregnant again. Crikey that is nearly 4 years! I stopped BF ds2 just before he turned 3 and was pregnant again by that time. If dc3 goes that long....well....I'll tell you in 2011 by which time I will have been pregnant or Bf for 7 years.

Oh god I have just freaked myself out now!!!

I breastfed for two and a half years and I'm now pregnant again and my boobs look great.

Bfing certainly helped me get my waist back without having to diet.

pooka · 09/04/2008 08:35

My mother breastfed her 3 children and her boobs were still pretty good when I last saw them (when I was in my teens/early 20s).
I've fed both dcs for longer than she fed us (13months as opposed to 8 months). My boobs are fine - they're bigger than they used to be, not quite so perky, but not saggy as such.
I remember my midwife saying she had fed 5 children and that hers were still like headlamps rather than spaniels ears.
I was a bit cross reading in the Times about some boob job by injection were it was spouted, as if fact, that as women age or breastfeed, boobs sag. I muttered to dh about the fact that was pregnancy rather than breastfeeding. He jsut said "yes dear".

duvet · 09/04/2008 12:39

I reckon various factors come in and it's not necessarily due to b/f. I reckon pregnancy probably doesn't help. Mine 'deflated when I stopped b/f dd2 at 1.5, but then after a few months perked up again not too pre standard but still much improved. What seems to affect mine is the mini pill cos I stopped taking it for 2 months and they deflated again but now a month back on it and their fullness has returned - bizarre or what, it's a side effect that I like anyways, only trouble is one is fuller than the other. DH likes the effect too! anyone else had this from the mini pill?

Feelingbetterslowly · 09/04/2008 12:50

What did you all do to get your boobs back? I bf-ed for a year and 3 years on my boobs look like spaniels ears! I'm only a 36A too, but they are literally long and flat, nothing in them at all. Should I just get a boob job instead? I hate hate hate hate hate them! And I'm still in my twenties-they should have elastic-ed back into place shouldn't they? xx
