I'm always a bit puzzled when people talk about new mums being "forced" to breastfeed or made to feel guilty when they don't - I've never experienced anything like that at all

thr writer sounds like she has a few issues...

hunkermunker · 06/11/2007 22:19

If ignorance is bliss, she's a very happy woman...

DaisyMoo · 06/11/2007 22:20

Yes, it's bloody awful and has reminded me why I've stopped reading The Times because of the uninformed shit that they're journalists spout most of the time. Using the word Nazi is just downright offensive and proves what divisive, hysterical, witless women they are.

Maybe I've got selective memory but I don't think I've ever read an opinion piece on breastfeeding that's been positive, at least not in the mainstream press. Oh, hang on, Annalisa Barbieri is very good.

Is that angry enough for you?

What annoys me about myself is that I want to be really cutting in a comment, but on those occasions my English sadly lets me down!

It is the pits and nobody cares about Alphamummy.

Really it is and they don't. Makes me sad too though when stuff in the press gets so polarised. Shame to see the old discussion perpetuated in such terms.

Emzy5 · 06/11/2007 22:23

blimey, what a venomous woman.

Pannacotta · 06/11/2007 22:27

Bloody "Times" again, they have printed several articles like this in the past few months. Offensive to boot...
Shall not be buying it anymore.

JoanWilder · 06/11/2007 22:27

some of the further posts were intelligent, liked Jane and her default argument

TheYoungVisiter · 06/11/2007 22:29

So cross I just posted - which I never do. I am normally totally monogamous to MN.

It is a very offensive thing to say and I am quite surprised that various journos think it is acceptable. Didnt India Knight use the same phrase?

moonstruck · 06/11/2007 22:35

The Times does seem to have a campaign against Bf at the mo. I think comparing La Leche league to Nazis is a bit strong. What is that journo so angry about? Funny how braestfeeding provokes such strong emotions

JoanWilder · 06/11/2007 22:36

yeah, it gets a bit personla for them, big chip on shoulder

madamez · 06/11/2007 22:36

Stupid people, in general, extrapolate everything from their own personal experience. So someone who has been bullied about not breastfeeding for long enough/at all might use that as evidence that everyone in favour of BF is a bully. Some are, some are perfectly reasonable. And there were a lot of sensible, accurate and reasonable postings on that thread along with the usual silliness.

I quite like the idea of a Campaign for Sane Motherhood, though: the motto could be that Roseanne Barr quote "If the kids are alive at the end of the day, I've done my job".

bossykate · 06/11/2007 22:39

"alphamummy" is very poor. trying to jump on the mnet bandwagon and being a miserable failure. don't worry, mnet is about a bazillion times more thoughtful, witty and influential than alphamummy.

LittleBella · 06/11/2007 22:42

Oh she is stupid

What's sane about slagging off breastfeeding?

Silly woman

That is such a good point Doodle, its really unnecessary and also very sad...

moonstruck · 06/11/2007 23:02

I am sick of all this poor me bullshit....Why doesn't everyone just shut up and meditate on how lucky they are to have what they have got?

MrsJohnCusack · 06/11/2007 23:02

i've commented for you Emkana

I'm not sure it's entirely sane though

moonstruck · 06/11/2007 23:02

Sorry wrong thread!!!!!

moonstruck · 06/11/2007 23:05

I meant to say I agree with Doodle- we're all just doing our best-breastfeeding or not. Sorry about above mistake
