Called a pervert for breastfeeding

mush4brains · 30/05/2007 18:50

I know that some of the reasons people breastfeed are lost on some people but I am really hurt that one of my closest friends called me a pervert last night cause I am still breastfeeding my nearly 8 month old son. She has told me before she thinks its perverted to bf a male. It all happened via text & when I called her she has refusded to pick up. I am now left really hurt/angry/shocked/upset. Has anyone else come across this kind of name calling for breastfeeding?

If you need breastfeeding support, come on here or Kellymom.

If you need real friends, come on here.

sparklesandwine · 30/05/2007 19:37

littlepicklesmum · 31/05/2007 21:13

Hey mush, How you doing today?
Hope you are feeling a bit better.

Flangelina · 01/06/2007 22:08

I didn't have time earlier but just wanted to add my support. Your friend is, unfortunately, nuts. Try not to let it get you down.

jellyjelly · 02/06/2007 13:56

Keep going and dont let her bother you, i do think it is great that you will feed both.

Can anyone educate me on how the body does this ie i know that the milk changes over time.

lazyemma · 02/06/2007 14:03

just to add one more voice to the melee: your friend is a nutter, she's got the problem, not you. It's great that you're still feeding your son yourself. I think it's an awful shame that sexualised images of boobs are so prevalent nowadays that you'll see them plastered all over billboards, across men's magazines and on the TV, but a woman breastfeeding her son is called a pervert. Makes me sad.

SugaryBits · 02/06/2007 14:06

It amazes me that people are quite happy to drink the breast milk of farm animals yet you get called a pervert for feeding your breast milk to your baby!

I am still feeding my 14month old and have no plans to stop. Enjoy the closeness while you can. Before you know it they'll be stroppy 16 year olds!

MissGolightly · 02/06/2007 14:24

I am still bfing 13 month old DS and have no plans to stop. If someone used language like that to me I certainly would not be calling them, I would be cutting them out of my life.

In fact to say something so offensive to a friend sounds very strange to me - could there be issues you don't know about?

Nightynight · 02/06/2007 14:49

how weird.
He is 8 months, not 8 years! She has a problem, not you.

mush4brains · 02/06/2007 20:01

thanks everyone. Feeling much more up beat about it all- am far too busy to worry about so called friends like that!!

Silly woman.

gillhowe · 02/06/2007 21:21

Only just seen this. Can't quite believe it!

Agree with Mummynumnum

Malaleche · 02/06/2007 21:28

so, she's trying to have a baby herself? I hope she never does.

Roseylea · 02/06/2007 21:41

People have such weird, warped attitudes!

I'm sure you know how good it is that you are brfding your ds. It sounds like your dh is supportive too, and that's great - get him to be your personal cheerleader!

We live in such a bottle feeding society still- it still goes against the current to brfd for longer than the token effort that the NHS seems to be satisfied with...(certainly round here anyway...)

lucyellensmum · 02/06/2007 22:42

she clearly doesnt have children, small minded bitch, how dare she! BF is the most natural thing in the world, i BF until DD was 5 months and had to stop because i got sick (gall stones, so low fat diet and milk dried up due to stress). I always find myself staring at mothers BF not because i think its odd but because i think its wonderful and im frankly quite jealous. DD is nearly two and i wish i could still BF. Saying all that i had every intention of BF but did feel a bit weird about it while i was pregnat, dd1 was from a previous "relationship" sixteen years ago and i BF her but my breasts were not a sexual thing in my view then. Different this time and have been with new partner for 16 years and they definately his toys! So did wonder how i would feel putting a baby to the breast again, it felt fine, it felt great and i got them out whenever i needed to feed, if people didint like it fuck em, only ever got one dirty look and that was from a woman! Yes people stared but i think it is out of interest and admiration tbh. This woman obviously has little maternal instinct about her!

lucyellensmum · 02/06/2007 22:49

wow - you are going to be feeding two, you go girl!! congratulations, pmsl at the mummy feeding station. Just like to add, and your friend would HATE this, obviously there is no sexual feelings about BF, but my hubby was OBSESSED with my breasts when i was feeding, i mean, even more obsessed than normal, but then i have great tits! lol. I'm just making the point that is ok to think of breasts as sexual AND as milk factories!!!

lillochum · 02/06/2007 22:53

Still reeling from this one .

ScottishMummy · 02/06/2007 22:53

so sad that she has such derogatory feelings toward a perfectly natural and bonding act

ooo ignore her- misguided mare

maisym · 02/06/2007 22:56

she's not a friend - well done for bf xxx

nachomama · 02/06/2007 23:58

We're on your side mush!

tell your friend to FUCK RIGHT OFF!

mylittleimps · 03/06/2007 00:16

8 months is still a baby, lets hope she gets some help over her issues - when things calm down and if she really is a true friend you might be able to talk about why she felt like this and she might open up?

as you were friends there must be an underlying issue for her to be so direct in her wording to you.

don't let her affect your decision to BF though. I BF a lot longer than 8 months!

my eldest ds said i like your boobs mummy and i asked why darling, he said because that's where i got my milk from when i was a baby. i thought it was very sweet (although i wouldn't want him shouting it from the roof tops!) but i shudder to think what she would make of it.
