Just wondered - would you breast feed a friend's baby??

Just been having a conversation with a friend - would you be happy breast feeding someone else's baby, and how would you feel if someone else offered to feed yours?

I was thinking of the sort of scenario where you've had to leave your baby with someone else, and they need a feed, like if you're really sick or something.

I don't think I'd have a problem with it either way tbh.

lanismum · 16/08/2006 22:43

cowmad, if you hadnt been so rude and tactless in the first place, nobody would have been rude to you? just a thought.....

Joolstoo · 16/08/2006 22:44

isn't that little boy on the trike at the right hand side of the page sweet?

mytwopenceworth · 16/08/2006 22:45

a baby is hungry, i'm alone with it and i have milk in me but not on me iyswim! do i feed it or do i let it scream with helpless hunger?? hmmm. i'd feed it.

i'd have accepted donated milk if needed, i'd have donated milk if i'd have known about it at the time and i'd feed a baby/allow my baby to be fed direct if it was that or no grub at all.

hunkermunker · 16/08/2006 22:45

He is, JT - very cute!

wheresmyfroggy · 16/08/2006 22:45

I like his spikes JT, looks like a cheeky littlev bugger though.

lanismum · 16/08/2006 22:45

yep, the trike looks like a great toy too!

puff · 16/08/2006 22:46

I would for close family. My sister was extremely ill in ITU for 2 weeks after the birth of her twins. She so wanted to breastfeed but was unconscious on a ventilator for a week. She did try to keep expressing when she regained consciousness but the breastmilk was yellow for ages (her liver and kidneys had gone into failure).

If I'd been breastfeeding myself at the time, I'd have helped out like a shot - at least I'd have felt like I was doing something useful. Not sure how useful I'd have been as I only managed a total of 8 weeks breastfeeding myself (this wasn't strictly breastfeeding either - all expressed!).

shall we go and look at the 'Autumn Range' then?

Piffle · 16/08/2006 22:47

Wy does Cowmad want to know if Hunker is divorced?

HarpsichordCarrier · 16/08/2006 22:47

yes, I would and I have offered my friend when her mastitis was very bad and also when she was bereaved. she didn't take me up on it but I have no problem with it as a concept.
I think our squeamishness about "wetnursing" is a very recent thing and - yes - I would be delighted if someone I knew well offered to bf if I was unable to do so myself for any reason.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 16/08/2006 22:48

I love bubbles, me

HarpsichordCarrier · 16/08/2006 22:50

oh christ you're al talking about trikes and bubbles
must remember not to take so bloody long to post

wheresmyfroggy · 16/08/2006 22:50

trouble is though vvv they leave a layer of that horrid gunk on the bathroom floor , very slippery.

HarpsichordCarrier · 16/08/2006 22:51

{much respect Piffle, btw}

hunkermunker · 16/08/2006 22:52

HC, can you and VVV work out a night-nursing rota for DS2 please?

Joolstoo · 16/08/2006 22:52

can't say fairer than that!

Piffle · 16/08/2006 22:52

pupuce · 16/08/2006 22:53

I would BF someone elses and if you want to BF mine becasue I can't .... go dor it :-)
There would have to be a reason but in principle - why not!
BM is better than formula anyday (sorry).... milk of a human is better than milk of a cow !
