Fluconazole dosage advice please

I've had my second bout of thrush now for over a month. Third GP at my practice prescribed Fluconazole but only the 150mg loading dose so it hasn't improved. It is at best uncomfortable to feed and often agony for hours after. I've had my latch checked at our local Breaststart drop-in and it's fine.
So....my sis had bought Flucon in Cambodia and brought it back for me (genuine thing don't worry!) but it is in 200mg tablets. Easy to break in half but not so easy in quarters. So really my question is could I have a 200mg loading dose and then just one 100mg dose per day or will I have to chop them into 50mg pieces?
Thanks in advance.

Did you bottle feed first time around Kayzed? It is annoying whilst it gets established but you need to call in all those favours from family and friends to keep DS entertained - get him to the park and get your feet up with a cuppa and a cake!

You should get your friends to get a bit of practise in.
Well done on the expressing etc. last time. I've not expressed for weeks as I read that you shouldn't feed the milk when you have thrush and also my nips were too sore.
Hopefully can get back to it soon as I have work to do and could do with a few hours off. On the other hand tho it's a good excuse to keep my baby with me for longer!

Laundry, that can't be right re not feeding with thrush!!!

I have suffered badly with both babies and never came across that advice.
Tiktok?
Mears?

laundrylover · 19/07/2006 22:46

No Moondog! I mean that you shouldn't feed the FROZEN milk after the thrush has cleared up to prevent reinfection!
Blinkin' 'eck I would have given up by now if I'd had to stop feeding.

How you doing? Still holding off the Flucon?

I had this for six weeks when my ds4 was born. It was a total nightmare. I feel for you.

In the end I persuaded my doc to give me the correct flucon dose as recommended by the BFN.

I'm still not convinced it worked but I went to a homeopath, took the remedy, and it was cleared within 24 hours. What a blessed relief.
(Dairy farmers give cows homeopathic remedies for this according to my HV.)

I can only wish you both the very best with this. You might want to do an archive search as there have been a few threads.

People who've never had thrush in the milk ducts will NEVER begin to understand.

i am still battling thrush myself. my dd also nipped me a few times at bedtime last night, destroying the skin on one. part of my problem i think is that we co-sleep and she feeds a lot at night so it is hard to keep putting medication on my nipple and in her mouth. going back to the docs today.

Just smiling at the thought of my dad giving his cows homeopathic treatments.
Spider can you tell us more about the treatment please. Flucon does seem to be working but am not convinced it won't come back and only have one more course of my Cambodian Flucon!!

Kayzed I've still got a full course in hand and with a cousin in Cambodia can get a 10 day course for $1!! Worth chancing it in the post I reckon if I need any more.

I don't know much more about the fluconazole. I was given a course by the doc which did nothing. The after some assertiveness and tears in the surgery I was given the dosage as detailed on the BFN info.

I took it all but there was no real change. Then about two days after the course had finished I took the homeopathic remedy (wish I could remember what) and it cleared up instantly.

In the menatime I used everything I could to get through the pain. I was topping up painkillers night and day, dreading each feed, using nipple sheilds, Lansinoh and sometimes expressing but with little success. These things helped a little, but they only scratched the surface really.

After about six weeks of hell I was completely clear. I hope you continue to improve.

You've probably done all this (haven't read whole thread) but I also avoided bread, wine beer (yeasty) and sugary stuff. I washed my clothes in vinegar, ate loads of garlic and pro biotics. I attacked it on every front so I'm not quite sure what, if anything, worked. It may have run its course, but my gut instinct is that the homeopathic remedy did the trick. It's certainly worht a go.

i took this and the bfn handout to my gp today. was not happy with him just writing a prescription for dd - as he wanted me to get my own appt. **head. so i went and made an emergency appt after i left his office. went to see the nurse who was much more empathetic. she swabbed me and dd - which she couldn't the last time as it was a late afternoon appt and all the samples had already gone for testing. she was careful the last time and gave me the minimum of the diflucan dosage. i want it upped as mine had much noticeable improvement after a week's treatment. I showed her the handouts and she asked if she could keep them! thing is the results won't come back till friday.

will look to see if i can find the grapefruit seed oil stuff that drjack recommends.
