Is it better to smoke and BF (obviously not at the same time) or give formula??

the benefits of bf still out weigh formula even if the mum smokes.

hercules · 16/12/2005 21:55

I'd rather have my newborn bf by a mum who smokes away from the baby then feed it mcdonalds.

it is occasional and always once dd is in bed and I do it out the window like a naughty school girl. I know I should stop and I wonder whether just a few is that bad. I get guilty about it but can't seem to give up entirely.

geekgrrl · 16/12/2005 21:58

misdee · 16/12/2005 21:59

i smoke in the evenings and sometimes at mieows house

but outside at home, i freeze my ar*e off in the garden.

FrostyTheRickman · 16/12/2005 22:00

I smoke and breastfeed. It's not great and I wish I didn't, but I do! I never smoke in the house though and my children don't know that I smoke.

hercules · 16/12/2005 22:00

not sure how good a mum you can be with a frozen arse.....

hercules · 16/12/2005 22:00

Now lying to your child........

misdee · 16/12/2005 22:00

i'm get all emabaressed and ashamed if my kids catch me sneaking a fag.

i will give up again soon.

ISawFrannyandZooeyKissingSanta · 16/12/2005 22:01

I was sometimes very tempted to smoke when ds was little - had only recently given up to conceive him so it was still a real struggle sometimes. Whenever I felt the urge I remembered that apparently the milk of smokers tastes of cigarettes...put me off every time.

Mercy · 16/12/2005 22:02

Were you asking for advice fatfairy?

If so, breastfeeding is still best - if you can do it.

Good luck

FrostyTheRickman · 16/12/2005 22:02

I'm not lying to them, not at the moment anyway. If one of them asked me if I smoked, I'm not sure what I'd say but they definitely don't know and that's the way I want to keep it.
