I had to ask, my dd who is just 4 weeks old usually feeds every 2 hours like clockwork she stuff's herself silly and then sleeps for two hours - at night too! but i fed her last night (am bfeeding) as usual and we both went to bed at 10, when i woke up at 3am she was still zonked out i tried to feed her as the HV said she is too young to leave any longer than 4 hours, but she wouldnt have any of it - i got one pathetic little suck out of her and she went and zonked out again so i put her back to bed, she finally woke up at 7am and whinged a bit and i fed her for about 10 minutes, since then she has fed at 1pm for about 5 minutes and i have tried to feed her just now and she wont even open her mouth - she MUST be hungry she is such a guzzler all the time, i have tried everything but its like im producing knock out drugs in my milk and she out for the count since last night! is this normal? - she is my third and my ds1 and ds2 never did this to my memory! im not too worried - but i am a little, am i worrying unecessarily?? she doesnt look ill??? im really puzzled! can anyone help??? xxx

Really eager to know that baby and mother are ok...

HelenEmjay · 16/10/2005 11:01

Hiya everyone, sorry its taken so long! spent a loooooong night waiting to see a Dr on friday night - eventually saw a nice one, and he said she is probably coming down with something! he did really look her over and said she looked well, and her color was good etc etc.. he didnt do anything else and said to go home and look for certain things like if she stops having lots of wet nappies and poos and so on, so i left and got home really late - and she then kept me up all night as she has a really really bad cold poor little thing, so that might have been it - Dr may have been right and she has just been coming down with a cold - its just taken its time!! so anyway spent most of yesterday at my mums so the kids could wreck her house and drive her bonkers and i crept of and had a quick sleep
Thankyou all so much for all your help - if i could reach out and give you all a great big hug i would - you were all so right about what to keep an eye on and to listen to my instincts, fortunately olivia is ok, she's got red runny eyes and nose and is trying her best to breath and feed at the same time (i swear ive never seen so much s*ot in such a little nose!) - poor thing - she looks a wreck but id wrather her have a cold then all the other things it could have been! Thankyou thankyou thankyou - you are all stars - id have cracked up without you all! xxx

I am soooooooooooooo pleased that it is not more serious

Sorry that you have had such a hard time this last week

Hopefully next week will be better

Cadmum · 16/10/2005 22:39

Thanks for posting. Sorry that you were at the hospital for ages... I am pleased that you have a logical explanation for her lack of interest in feeding. I hope that she is over her cold quickly and back to being herself.

startingtobehalloweenylover · 16/10/2005 22:45

oh i'm so glad it's all ok! just keep an eye on her...

is she feeding a bit more now?

edam · 16/10/2005 22:48

Gosh, that must have been such a relief. So glad she's OK, if snotty (have you had that snot stuck to your breast thing yet? Yeeeuck - remember it well!).

HelenEmjay · 17/10/2005 09:43

LOL!! edam yes i have! disgusting isnt it! she is feeding a bit better now but her nose is so bunged she cant figure out why she cant breath when she is trying to eat and gets so mad!! - think im going to have big time strops out of her when she is older she is obvioulsy keeping us up all night or should i say me! - by the sounds of dp's snoring there isnt anything keeping him up ! even when she isnt waking up for a feed in the night she is so snotty she's snorting and coughing poor little thing! im soooo knackered! but obviously VERY relieved that she is ok

Oh so glad things are better! Was a bit worried about her.
In fact....I've just arrived back in Turkey and the first thing I did (after unpacking) was dust off my computer to see if there was any news.

Amazing how one can get embroiled in the lives of strangers isn't it!!??

HelenEmjay · 17/10/2005 14:19

Oh moondog!! thats so sweet of you! it is funny but its really nice to know that there are so many caring people about, i had my car stolen right in front of me not so long ago and my little boys favourite blanket and toy in it and i have to say i felt so bitter about people for ages, and with all the things you see poeple doing to each other on the news its easy to sit and think the world is populated with horrible people (with the exception of a few), but its really not, this is why i love mumsnet so much - it really reinforces your faith in people and there ability to help you out no matter what, i cant describe how much id be lost without you all!

OP posts:
moondog · 17/10/2005 14:22

You're right. It's easy to believe the world is full of vile people, but really they're full and far between!

{shock] at your care being stolen!
What happened exactly??

HelenEmjay · 17/10/2005 14:36

We took our lo's for a walk to the local woods and as we walked round we got about 2 minutes away from our car coming back and we heard our alarm going off which it did occasionally but when it did it went off for ages, this time it went off only for a few seconds so we were instantly suspicous, a few seconds later a car speeded past us closley followed by our car!! windows smashed in and it was full of teens - you could see them pulling our lo's car seats out and lobbing there toys around! it really upset us - we did find the car about a week later but it was a wrecked and nothing left inside at all! of course insurance covered it but insurance doesnt buy the manky half sucked bear that ds loved to bits

OP posts:
moondog · 17/10/2005 14:38

Helen! How dreadful!!

My mother told me always to get duplicates of loved cuddly things.
I wish ds had chosen something cheap 'n cheerful.
His 'thing' is a rather expensive handmade pair of felt baby slippers! Grrrrrrr....

karmamother · 17/10/2005 15:24

HelenEmjay, I've been following this thread & I'm sooo pleased that Olivia is ok. I've only been using MN for a month or two & its great to see the benefits, like this. On a practical note, have you tried the karvol or vicks thingies to help unblock her nose. Boots sell things to aspirate snot out of noses, too. A bowl of hot water to humidify her room at night might help loosen it too.

Best of luck.

HelenEmjay · 17/10/2005 15:55

Lol moondog! ds has replaced his bear with a great big giant sized blanket that he drags around everywhere - its getting very raggy, mucky and he chews one corner and rubs another part of it under his nose - and he WILL NOT let me wash it the scruffy little monkey
karmamother - i have tried karvol, and it doesnt seem to help much, havent been able to get any vicks yet, i will have to go and have a look for one of those things to clear out snotty noses - she is big time bunged up, just walked round the corner to pick ds1 up from school and you could hear her snorting and sneezing over the traffic!!!
