I had to ask, my dd who is just 4 weeks old usually feeds every 2 hours like clockwork she stuff's herself silly and then sleeps for two hours - at night too! but i fed her last night (am bfeeding) as usual and we both went to bed at 10, when i woke up at 3am she was still zonked out i tried to feed her as the HV said she is too young to leave any longer than 4 hours, but she wouldnt have any of it - i got one pathetic little suck out of her and she went and zonked out again so i put her back to bed, she finally woke up at 7am and whinged a bit and i fed her for about 10 minutes, since then she has fed at 1pm for about 5 minutes and i have tried to feed her just now and she wont even open her mouth - she MUST be hungry she is such a guzzler all the time, i have tried everything but its like im producing knock out drugs in my milk and she out for the count since last night! is this normal? - she is my third and my ds1 and ds2 never did this to my memory! im not too worried - but i am a little, am i worrying unecessarily?? she doesnt look ill??? im really puzzled! can anyone help??? xxx

Hiya all, well i havent heard anything from anyone...... her poos are still a yellowy color, she's not pooing as much though, i am trying to get her to feed now, she is doing so very half heartedly, im going to go and strip and change her in a minute to see if that will wake her up abit, im sorry your ds got so sick cadmum, that is my fear - that there is something really wrong! still waiting for dp to come home too, he is working quite far away today so it will take a while...

It is good if she is still weeing and her poops are still yellow. I do feel slightly less worried. I would not leave her for the week-end without a proper medical opinion. (I think I have to second RTK's opinion that the GP doesn't count...)

HelenEmjay · 14/10/2005 16:33

Right well im going to go call a taxi if dp isnt home soon..... he can always meet us there, will let u all know asap what happens, thankyou all soooo much for your help and advise - im really grateful xxxxx

How many wet and dirty nappies has she had?

I will feel happier if she has been seen by pead

What have you done with the letter ???

RTKMonherBROOMSTICK · 14/10/2005 16:35

oke doke

Really hope she is ok but glad you are taking her

And lay it on really strong with hosp.

Cadmum · 14/10/2005 16:39

I am sorry that you and Olivia are having a rough time. I feel rather silly for being so passionately worried about her but this is bringing back floods of awful memories. By the time our son was admitted his fontanelles were bulging and he was very dehydrated and septic.

I really thought that he was going to die and judging from the reaction at the hospital, I was not the only one with those thougths). The poor little man needed a lombar puncture and a full work up and it could have been avoided if either the GP had listenend to me or I had trusted my instincts and taken him to A&E earlier.

I hope that your DH is home soon so that you can go in your own car. We are all here to help each other. I hope that I am not just scaring you but I wanted you to know why I am so worried.

HelenEmjay · 14/10/2005 16:47

I have the letter still, she is having about 3 wet nappies a day and about one or two pooey ones a day...... is that good or bad????

OP posts:
HelenEmjay · 14/10/2005 16:49

Your not scaring me Cadmum, im really touched that so many of you are offering your support!! i dont know what id have done if i hadnt got all of you! how old was your ds when he got ill??

OP posts:
Cadmum · 14/10/2005 16:55

I would say good. You do already know that she is not feeding a much as she ought to so 4 wet nappies is about right. I would expect 6+ if she was feeding well. It is a good thing that she is still pooping and that the poop is still yellow.

I would still think that having her seen is for the best. They will likely check her urine and perhaps do a blood test to see if she might be fighting an infection.

Is she still really sleepy? If I wasn't trying to make you feel paranoid (by telling you a completely awful but unrelated story) would you be worried?

betty2000 · 14/10/2005 16:57

Diff to say, but is not a lot of wee, to be honest....but not dehydration levels

Cadmum · 14/10/2005 17:00

My DS2 was likely ill from shortly after his birth. He stopped feeding at 3 weeks; stopped making eye contact shortly after; was eventually impossible to waken and finally admitted to hospital at 3 weeks, 6 days. (That was only the first of 3 stays in hospital with the same persistant infection...)

The most frustrating thing for me is that I was 100% CRETAIN that something was wrong with him and nobody would listen to me so I started to question my own sanity as much as his health.

You know your baby better than any expert on the planet and if you suspect that something is not quite right you are likely correct.

Cadmum · 14/10/2005 17:02

betty, May I please say that you are an absolute SAINT! I know that you are really not pleased with recent events on MN but this proves that you really are amazing!

I was sad to know that you will not be around when our fourth is born. Glad to see that in an emergency, you are still here. Thanks. Sorry if I am almost 'outing' you...

RTKMonherBROOMSTICK · 14/10/2005 17:11

Cadmum, I must have a particular style or sumpin'.....

I'm disappearing again now, but I will keep an eye on this thread as I want to know Helen's baby is ok, and I would love to read how she has kicked the GP's a* when she feels up to it.

Tata!

RTKMonherBROOMSTICK · 14/10/2005 17:26

betty I think you are DEFFO BRILL too

I am hoping that as we haven't heard anything for a while Olivia is at hospital and will be home again soon

Cadmum · 14/10/2005 17:35

RTK, Sorry if it is me that confused you with the mention of DS's bulging fontanelles. Dehydration causes them to dip.

RTKMonherBROOMSTICK · 14/10/2005 17:36

It is ok CM

Cadmum · 14/10/2005 17:38

Totally unrelated. PG brain and all... (DS2 had cellulitis hence the bulging...)

Cadmum · 14/10/2005 19:49

Really hope you are getting on well, Helen. I will check in again later.

startingtobehalloweenylover · 14/10/2005 19:51

helenemjay... is all ok? have you been to a&e?

RTKMonherBROOMSTICK · 14/10/2005 20:01

RTKMonherBROOMSTICK · 14/10/2005 22:53

Any news ???????

Cadmum · 15/10/2005 13:40
