got some fenugreek and started this afternoon...
it is probably the worst day to start in retrospect as I am thinking of going 'cold turkey' on night feeds tonight....

chipmonkeys37today · 09/12/2005 19:05

popsycalindisguise · 09/12/2005 19:05

chipmonkeys37today · 09/12/2005 19:10

A night out? I think I remember something like that once, a long time ago.........

popsycalindisguise · 09/12/2005 19:17

popsycalindisguise · 05/01/2006 19:55

so how is everyone???

Lua · 05/01/2006 20:41

Sick of pumping!
you?!

Happy new pumping year for everybody btw!

kiskidee · 05/01/2006 22:27

took a pumping holiday after I stocked up the freezer. now back to it. it was bliss.

Question for those with babies older than 8 months: how much ebm did you need at 10 months? dd still thinks food is a passing interest (but she's slooollly eating more). I'm wondering when I will be able to drop a feed / pump.

popsycalindisguise · 06/01/2006 09:51

ds2 is no 10 months....
when i leave him during the day i leave a 4 oz feed for mid morning and a 5 oz feed for the afternoon.....however, he hardly feeds when he wakes up (due to his all night feedathons...) so he needs something mid morning. Whereas ds1 at this age was having only 3 bottles per day with none between morning feed and lunch

Lua · 06/01/2006 16:34

Oh, only 9 oz/day at 10months?! That would be so nice! Can I ask how much solid is you DS getting?
Mine is finally taking a liking for food, but that means maybe a 3 ice cube meal.... Does your eat much more than this?

popsycalindisguise · 06/01/2006 19:04

Lua
he feeds 3 times a night so doesnt have much of a milk feed in the mornng. Has about half a weetabix
around 4oz milk mid morning
bowl of something at lunchtime (probably the same amount of those 7 month old food in jars but homemade. sometimes has a yoghurt or fruit puree or slices of pear after
has about 5/6oz milk mid afternoon
around 5 he has his dinner - about same amount as lunch time
then probabklly about 6oz milk before bed

that is what he is sent with anyway - but he doesnt alway drink all of it.....

popsycalindisguise · 06/01/2006 19:05

when i am at home though, we will have a little top up feed at about 8:30/9am and maybe a little mini feed around 4:30 before dinner

mandymac · 06/01/2006 19:26

Hello, can I join in and ask for your expert help?

I have just returned to work and have been expressing at home for a while in preparation, managing about 4oz a day. Just wanted to know what I might expect to express now dd is having 2 feeds at nursery and I am expressing at work. I managed 8oz today, over 3 expressing sessions of about 15 mins each. Do you think the time will get shorter, as I am concious of being away from my desk for that long although work have been brilliant and said I don't need to make the time up . DD seems to be taking 5-4oz per feed at nursery, so I just hope I can keep up with her, as ideally, I don't want to give her any formula.

What does the clique think????????

popsycalindisguise · 06/01/2006 19:29

I panicked soo much before returning......search for threads in june.july

I express once at lunchtime and get on average around 5oz...this takes abotut 20-25 minutes

I have to express when I feed him on an evening and then once more in an evening - i can get about 2oz whilst feeding him

When I first went backm I had to express during EVERY feed around the clock but now he is older, it has come down.

How many days a week do you work?
I work four days and try to express every day and ought to express during feeds on my day off (but dont do it as much as i should)

Lua · 06/01/2006 21:40

Thanks popsy! My DS is a gluton then! I have been working hard on him to sleep through the night so now he is usually feeding three times before breakfast but they are more like 4Am,7AM and 9AM.... But then he has lunch + 5 oz of EBM, tea, and a large 7oz bottle while at nursery. I suspect he will drink more if I could express more.... He will usually then bf when I pick him up, have dinner, top up with some more milk, and feed again while going to bed!!! Now that I wrote all of this, I can't believe I have lost an ounce since he is a month!!

Mandy, I have to say that you should do what works for you... With DD, I pumped 3-4 times a day to get about 8oz. That was enouh for her, and really all I could get... With DS I express about 13oz in two sessions, and he probaly would like more.... In my experience the best thing was to be consistent with the time and I would get a good amount in short time. So for example if I always pump lunch and 3 PM, I would have vey little profit y including an extra one, IYSWIM.
I am bored of pumping at work myself too. This time I am pumping once at work, and then right before going to bed, while on MN.....
HTH!

popsycalindisguise · 06/01/2006 21:41

lua - ds2 has more when he is at home from me.......

I got him weighed today and he is 23lb at 10 months - a 91st centile boy!

Lua · 06/01/2006 21:48

See, proof that DS is a gluton! He is only 75 percentile - tiny compared to yours! Doesn't he know milk doesn't grow in trees?!
I proably should tie him to the foot of the bed to avoid him burning more calories

mandy when you get to work, pump at the same times. When I drop dd off at nursery at 8.15 am, i feed her one last time (even if just a snack) and then pump at 11 am and 1pm. I get 9/10 oz this way. I would like pump at 3 pm too but just never manage that but she feeds at 4.30 when I pick her up again. Try to leave at least one hour gap between last pump and a feed otherwise letdown is slow and baby can be crabby at that.

I use a Lactaline double pump and since I am pumping whole feeds, I can get 2 letdowns in under 15 minutes. The first pump of the day (breaktime) I uusally only get the chance to pump for one letdown in under 10 mins. Another tip, if you have the time, pump for about 5 mins after milk stops flowing after last letdown as it stimulates supply. you lose it slowly during the week as pump can't stimulate as well as baby can.

I then pump around 8.30 pm as she goes to bed at 7pm after last big feed. here I get about 4.5 oz. If i am feeling energetic (hah! more like I don't have any stocks so better get my ass in gear) I pump again for another 4 oz.

Before I went on holiday (I teach) dd was treating food like a passing interest and was going through 18 oz of ebm per day! Now she is eating a tad more and I am going to take 14 oz on Monday. In addition little glutton also bf at 5pm, 6pm, 7 pm 11pm 3am 5am 6am 7am 8.15 am. She's been cleared for milk allergies and have discovered she loves yoghurt. that was her meal at 3pm today and ate 3 tablespoons worth.
I am living in hope that she will soon start to eat more and I can

kiskidee · 06/01/2006 23:15

...drop a pump.

kiskidee · 06/01/2006 23:17

oooohhh this milk monster has the cheek to be on the 25th percentile. Chaining to bed sounds like an energy saving tip.

savanna · 07/01/2006 12:06

Hello everyone

My ds is 9 months and I am pumping twice during the day at work so that he has 2 bottles while he is with the childminder. However, I am really starting to tire of pumping and nursing all night so am thinking of dropping a feed so that he only has one bottle during the day.

Popsycal, will you carry on giving your ds 9 oz for much longer?

Lua, I am also working on getting ds to sleep through the night as his feedathons are wearing me out. Do you mind sharing your experience with me - you can CAT me if you like. Thanks.

popsycalindisguise · 07/01/2006 14:39

savanna - tbh I have no idea!!!

When I went back to work when he was 6 months, I would leave 14 oz....2 lots of 7oz....

I just cut it slightly.

I know that ds1 at this age (although formula fed) was only having three bottles a day (no mid morning bottle)

Quite often though ds2 doesnt feed very well first thing in the morning as he is a bad night feeder so he needs something mid morning in my opinion.

Is anyone still expressing for a baby older than my ds2? (10 months)?
