He needs 2 7oz feeds during the day but i am hoping to reduce his lunchtime feeds as his solids increase.
BEen back at work properly only one week but am having to express during every feed and every time on my day off to get enough.

Popsycal
How is your ds? My ds was also sick last week and refusing solids and nursing frequently.
I freeze in Avent bottles, also only at weekends.

Has anyone successfully opted out of attending all-day work events because there would be nowhere to express? If so, I'd be grateful to know how you did it.

On another subject, new research has shown that breastfeeding for at least 1 year reduces women's risk of developing Type 2 diabetes by 15 percent. I will try to find the link if anyone would like to read the story.

no savanna, I didn't opt out, what I did was I took my pump and pumped where I had the all day session. Asked them to give me somewhere comfy and private to do it. Just stored the milk in a cool bag. I would consider opting out if I had be separated for more than 8 hrs.

popsycalindisguise · 24/11/2005 17:47

Hello folks...ds2 has just started to feel better!
Just gettin back interested in solids again but having weird feeding things going on with childminder...he is screaming now so will post later...just logged on to post ebm storage question

pooka · 25/11/2005 14:51

Just a quick cheeky question. I expressed milk yesterday am and afternoon for dh to give while I was out yesterday night. He didn't use it. Has since been stored in fridge. So about 24 - 36 hours old. Would it be OK to use at 7pm tonight while I give dd a bath upstairs. Or should I chuck it (crying emotion) and get some out of the freezer?
TIA
Pooka

Shivs1974 · 25/11/2005 18:44

Hi Pooka - i would say that it is okay to use. Kellymom states that ebm can be stored up to 8 days in the fridge - see www.kellymom.com/bf/pumping/milkstorage - can't get the link to work
Hope this helps & you haven't had to raid your freezer supply!

chipmonkey · 25/11/2005 19:03

Agree with Shivs. My ds frequently gets 3 day old milk and seems fine!

deckthehillswithboughsofmummy · 04/12/2005 20:22

Help milk supply seems to be drying up any suggestions to stop this happening.

popsycalindisguise · 04/12/2005 20:26

hi!!!

you need to do some power pumping!!
can you give us a recap on your situation...?

popsycalindisguise · 04/12/2005 20:27

shivs posted this earlier down teh thread:

As promised last night my expressing bible (Exclusively Expressing Breast Milk by Stephanie Casemore) suggests power pumping and cluster pumping. Power pumping means frequent pumping throughout the day - pump every 2 hrs around the clock (ahhh!) for at least 2 days. It is trying to mimic a growth spurt. Apparently some women will spend a weekend power pumping and will get family etc to care for the baby so that they can focus on pumping frequently.
Cluster pumping is pumping frequently but for shorter periods - eg pump every half and hr for ten mins. Do this for several hrs.
The book also suggests a few reasons why your supply can appear to be decreasing but there are too many to mention here.
To prove to you that it works I increased my pumping sessions from 5 to 6 over a week so that I would have enough milk to feed my daugher whilst I went on a hen weekend in Belfast. It was tough going fitting in another session but it worked.

deckthehillswithboughsofmummy · 04/12/2005 21:48

DS wouldn't latch due to inversion of nipples. I have been pumping from day one and until recently have been able to provide half of his daily feeds. I can't allways pump every two hours as I did in the beginning as I also have three year old to look after and have found recently that even pumping more often does not seem to be increasing supply but is becoming painful.

kiskidee · 04/12/2005 23:38

would you consider a herbal remedy to get it going again and then pumping to sustain it? read here

ps: aka alux.

deckthehillswithboughsofmummy · 05/12/2005 16:00

thanks alux.

JabberTheRedNoseReindeer · 05/12/2005 21:48

Or this ?

When you say painful, can you describe just how? Ds had nipple confusion and weaned at 3 months so I had to exclusively pump for the next 10. People/books will tell you that it can't be done, but I am living proof that it can. My milk stayed plentiful right up to the end when I decided to stop (which I did gradually, btw, so as to prevent engorgement). Anyway, I guess what I'm getting at is maybe you have something going on that is causing the pain such as blocked duct(s) or mild mastitis?

kiskidee · 05/12/2005 21:55

i have used fenugreek capsules to up my supply so as to build a little stock in the freezer. I bought it from goodnessdirect.com.

deckthehillswithboughsofmummy · 06/12/2005 08:41

I have inverted nipples and sometimes find that expressing can be painful as it draws the niple out, however I am trying to presevere as I really want him to have the best possible start. Have got to 10 weeks and am quite pleased with myself however I seem to be getting less and leaa off each day and am down to just 8oz over the day thats one feed for him now the rest are formula as I can't meet the demand he is putting on me.

deckthehillswithboughsofmummy · 06/12/2005 08:42

btw he is a big baby he is 68 cm long and weighs 15lb but there isn't a lot of fat on him, he is just a solid little man.

popsycalindisguise · 06/12/2005 11:09

kiskidee.....
I have thought about using fenugreek to up my supply a bit so that I can get more out in one go....rather than having round the clock expressing...
Would it work for that?
I express on a monday for the tuesday etc rather than have a stock in the freezer......

Email me again....christmas holidays are a coming

kiskidee · 06/12/2005 15:57

you would get more milk in one pump session but fenugreek imitates prolactin so you get milk piling up in your norks round the clock hence need to still get it out with pump or baby if you won't end up engorged.

popsycalindisguise · 06/12/2005 19:43

thikn I will try it....am desperate for a night out!!!!

JabberTheRedNoseReindeer · 06/12/2005 20:36

deckthehalls... I had really inverted nipples too. I know exactly what you mean. However, after expressing for a year one is completely normal now and the other is just a little flat, but not inverted. Who knew it could happen?

i've read usually within 24 hrs to 36 hrs. For me it did in 12 hrs. I found that 3 capsules with each main meal (9 per day) was sufficient and I also stopped taking it after a day/ day and a half. It is taking effect when your bo starts to smell like maple syrup! It's a bit surreal to start to smell like pancakes.
