Does anyone think he has an undiagnosed mental illness? there's a similar thread on the main board but very few seem interested in exploring this.

He seems manic in how he talks and I was surprised how well he defended himself with Piers Morgan and we all know how he crushes his interviewees. There's no mention of drugs or being in a gang. He seems to just do these crazy stunts for the thrill. ADHD perhaps? Is anyone else thinking he should be pushed for an immediate mental health assessment rather than sent off to prison. I feel if this angle is not looked into he will come out of jail and just keep doing until he probably gets killed.

I am white (for disclosure).

I think people assume because he is black he

  1. is part of a gang
  2. is being troublesome and likely due to his race
  3. is like this because he’s been brought up ‘badly’
  4. he’s black so something to do with his race

makes me so fucking sad, the older I get the worse it seems to be but I realise that is due to me only realising how awful it is for non white people. The first go to for a white child would be metal health and hormones.

When I saw he had been interviewed by Piers Morgan,.I felt sorry for him.

They are parading him around and making an example of him. Obviously he doesn't help himself. But it almost felt as though they were giving him enough exposure to destroy himself.

I really dont think he has any chance at a normal future anymore, not if he keeps getting this much exposure and the the right wing press are loving it.

But as a Black woman who has adhd during my teens I needed help and now I realise it was undiagnosed adhd.

Untreated adhd can cause some real issues.

I wish someone would stop and ask if he's okay? Has he got support I don't think the right approach is to criminalise.

Black especially Black working class children need more love and care from institutions.

He also has a child.

@Rege ADHD isn't a mental health condition it is regarded as a learning disability. He may have one or more mental health conditions with it which would be made worse/caused by his ADHD not being diagnosed, and him being given the right tools and possibly medication to deal with it.

@MotherOfRatios some of the people I know with ADHD use to self-medicate before they got diagnosed.

Hope it's ok to post here. This boy reminds me so much of my friends' white son who displays very similar behaviour.

They've had to fight and fight for him to be diagnosed with ADHD as he didn't have academic difficulties.

He's 16 now. I think they had to get him diagnosed privately aged 13/14 in the end. It's very sad. But he's a nightmare to parent. They're at their wits end. And I don't blame them. Sad for everyone involved. Especially his other siblings.

Many of our mutual friends have said they think he has psychopathy. Maybe that's what this kid has too.
Devastating for all involved.

ADHD is a learning difficulty like dyslexia and dyspraxia, not a learning disability. A learning disability is when the IQ is 70 or under.

@Reugny ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder or a mental health condition as per my local CAMHS. The NHS define it as a 'Condition' that affects behavior.

What it is not is a learning disability because it does not affect the ability to learn though it may affect concentration or attention to detail due to hyperactivity and it may present alongside other comorbidities that impact learning e.g Dyslexia or dyspraxia. In itself, the brain of someone with adhd is just as capable of learning as a non adhd person and the IQ is unaffected in a person with adhd.

He's done it to himself. How much sympathy would you have for him if he burst into your grandmother's house and terrified her half to death?

some people might use alcohol or cannabis.

people with adhd may have impulsive behaviour so his actions do tie in with that.

I believe there is a higher proportion of prison inmates with conditions including ADHD and also mental health issues, brain injuries etc.

I don't know if there is evidence that treating ADHD reduces criminality though.
