by Elly Omondi Odhiambo

Noah Donohoe was found lifeless in a storm drain on June 27, 2020. A post-mortem report declared that he died as a result of drowning. Well, because the job of the police is to look at every possible and impossible, there has been a growing number of Belfast residents wanting to know if there was a racial motivation in the death of Noah Donohoe. People want to know the truth. The more the family of Noah and public are cautioned against making so-called unsubstantiated statements, the more they hunger for the truth. The PSNI is bungling this sad case

This 14 year old set off on his bike one Sunday, two years ago now, to meet a friend. They were working on a Duke of Edinburgh award.

Six days later, his naked body was found a kilometre inside an unlocked storm drain, in a part of Belfast he did not frequent.

Apparently, the police announced that there was no foul play involved, on the very day that his body was found. Even before an autopsy took place. There still has been no Inquest.

The police version of events is that: Noah fell from his bike, sustained a head injury, removed his clothes in confusion, ditched his bike, wandered off naked into a part of the city he would not usually go into, and somehow ended up drowned a kilometre inside an ( unusually) unlocked storm drain.

I understand that Noah was of African/Irish heritage. Police have never considered a racial element in his death and disappearance. Another schoolboy a fortnight earlier, had been attacked and chased by a group of youths whilst cycling. He escaped from them only after running three miles to safety. Police did not investigate any links between the incidents.

His mother's demand for answers from the Police Service Northern Ireland appears to have been blocked by them. There is a petition requesting the release of these files.

Please, if you are able, can you support his mum Fiona, and sign the petition on MN?

This has been referred to as "the PSNI's Stephen Lawrence scandal". Let us pray and hope that it is not.

Simon Byrne, chief Constable of PSNI transferred to NI after being ‘cleared’ of 74 allegations of misconduct in Cheshire. His predecessor in the PSNi, Drew Harris (MI5 and former RUC) transferred to become Garda commissioner across the border. He was actively involved in cover ups of collusion… and allegedly more

Simon Byrne was in the Met before Cheshire.Jamboree01
Oh what a surprise! Hmm

The "spirit of the Met" seems to have rubbed off on PSNI.

@TheBlackDarner

The "spirit of the Met" seems to have rubbed off on PSNI.
The spirit of the RUC is embedded in the PSNI. They make the Met look angelic. The RUC was not disbanded, it was rebranded.

It is said that Simon Byrne is being considered as a contender to replace Cressida Dick. Unsurprising as they are just transferred when things are getting a little hot… just as Drew Harris was before him.

Jamboree01 · 14/04/2022 22:14

Everyone prayed that Noah would return home safely.

So much grief, anger, sadness, hopelessness since.

Thousands have been on the streets, peacefully, for Noah. In cars and on foot. They have climbed mountains for him.

We will keep shouting for truth and justice for Fiona and Noah

TheRealMrsMac · 15/04/2022 21:28

I hope it is ok, @TheBlackDarner , to post an update on the petition and tweets from Niamh Donohoe for information for BMN?

Hello everyone,

Thank you so much for your ongoing support - it means so much to us. We are incredibly disappointed that we have still not be given an update by the Coroner, the Police Service or the Chief constable on what is happening with the PII. We are being left in limbo and we want answers.

Please keep signing and sharing so the PSNI know - more than 300,000 of you are watching.

We all are Noah's Voice for Justice

Thank you,
Fiona and Niamh Donohoe, Noah's mummy and auntie.

This Good Friday, 304,701 of us are watching. Will you join us?

Please sign the petition or sign and share if you can, and don't forget to confirm your signature for it to count.

The link to the petition is in the OP of this thread:

Thank you 💙

From Niamh and Fiona on Twitter:
'☆☆☆☆☆☆Important☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ We ask all political parties/Reps that are willing to pledge support and not just electioneering lip service to re-post the below prepared statement and help action our demand for a New Investigation. @ ChiefConPSNI @ FIONADONOHOE2'

  • Please see attached image. If any BMNetters feel able to email, tweet, call, talk or write to their own representatives in the UK or on the island of Ireland, or to Doreen Lawrence, it would be very much appreciated.

ChocoLiebniz · 15/04/2022 21:39

Signed.

This is such an awful case. The PSNI is rotten, but even so, this is a particularly chilling situation. Poor sweet boy. His poor family.

TheRealMrsMac · 15/04/2022 21:41

And finally, especially as it is Easter, from Niamh on Twitter:
'Love this pic of Noah💙. Fiona always had this on her wall. I like to think it's him looking through from heaven...the blue heart on the table in the background too💙 he really was to pure for this evil world. Beautiful, innocent wee soul. Justice is coming beautiful boy💙'

Sincerest thanks for your time, BMNetters. Flowers

Thanks so much ChocoLiebniz your signature makes a real differnce to this Mum in showing that you cared.
Jamboree01 and TheRealMrsMac
Thanks so much for keeping us updated. So those intended house searches didn't go ahead? Was there a reasonn given?

I know that Easter is such a special time, as it is for my own family. I thought of you all today and your support for Fiona.

Such a great picture of Noah. One day, I hope that he can rest in peace.

TheRealMrsMac · 15/04/2022 23:44

No, they did not. Noah's body was recovered and 'no foul play' was almost immediately stated. Thank you TheBlackDarner and Easter blessings to you and your family. Flowers

TheBlackDarner · 16/04/2022 03:31

Thanks for the clarification MrsMac
How very odd indeed. You need good grounds for a search, so presumably they did have that sorted. And yet, dropped it so quickly, and closed it all down with such haste.Hmm

Monty27 · 16/04/2022 03:35

OP thanks for highlighting Noah's case. But can we just stick to one thread and one campaign please xx
@mumsnet

TheBlackDarner · 16/04/2022 04:29

Monty27 I think the thread here came about as there was a thread already on Black Mumsnet about a missing child. ( Since found safe) Noah was then mentioned on the same thread.

So to avoid confusion, a separate thread was started about Noah on BMN. For us especially, there's also the factor of Noah's heritage, and the journalist who happens to be black, covering the campaign. Important to us here on BMN as he is also covering aspects such as questions about structural racism, and similarities with the Stephen Lawrence investigation.

So a not necessarily the same readership here, as on the main board.

If the campaign organisers on the petition board want to clarify things with MNHQ. Whatever is best moving forward.Smile

kinshasa · 16/04/2022 09:13

Monty doesn't seem to have left the same message on the Craicnet thread about Noah.

Lndnmummy · 16/04/2022 12:07

My family and I are thinking and praying for Noah's family this morning and every day. We are with you Fiona!

TheRealMrsMac · 16/04/2022 12:08

I hope it is ok to add my voice to replies to Monty27's post, BMN?

The two supportive posts Monty27 made a couple of weeks ago - one on the Craicnet thread and one on the AIBU thread - are very welcome.

However, kinshasa is correct, and Monty27 has not posted their complaint to this OP on any other thread about Noah. It does not look to me like they are a BMN, but please correct me if I am wrong.

The OP, as a BMN, is quite within her rights to start a thread in BMN about any issue she wants to or cares about and which she believes is relevant to other BMNetters. The other threads elsewhere, in Petitions, Human Rights and AIBU have been started by different, unconnected Mumsnetters, again about an issue they care about and believe is relevant to the often different readerships of those topics. This OP is not responsible for them, although she has kindly posted supportively on them, as have other BMNetters.

It is a questionable decision, to post to complain about threads raising awareness about what has tragically happened to a child who is now deceased and which seek support for a mother's fight for justice and the truth. It is also a questionable decision to do that only on a BMN thread and attempting to invoke MNHQ.

Monty27 can, of course, raise and discuss their concern directly with MNHQ by contacting them by email. Or, they could just hide the threads and let the rest of us get on with doing what we are trying to do for Noah and Fiona.

To me, this thread in BMN is both welcome and in a relevant topic, for the reasons TheBlack Darner already explains. Thank you to the OP and to other BMNetters for it. Flowers

The more light that shines on injustice, the better, and we are all much stronger together.

kinshasa · 16/04/2022 13:18

@TheRealMrsMac. Thank you for the clarification. I hope that Monty finds it helpful also. This thread perhaps appeared in active at 3.30 am. given the time of Monty's post. So it seems that it is just one person's personal opinion.
I can't see that a black mumsnetter would want to close a BMN thread down somehow. That would be a bit odd. That's why I looked to see if the same message was on other threads, but no. Confused
The Noah thread on Craicnet has a lot about the political sensitivities faced in NI. I've been lurking on that board and learned a lot.
There are those whose agenda is always to divide. No one is being forced to read this thread on BMN, they can just hide it, no need to take it down.
We can't all be silenced in wanting the Truth to come out here.

I hope that Fiona finds Justice.

DoggoShark · 16/04/2022 13:29

Surely the more people that are aware of Noah and this injustice the better. It does seem odd that someone would want to shut down a thread about this case.

I’ve signed already but I will keep reading here for any updates and very much hope that Noah’s mum and the rest of his family get justice.
