Racists, you have been silenced... Bye Mumschat!

This is welcomed news.

It's a shame it was taken down so soon as I made a recent police report.

It's a tiny thing but I'm so happy to hear it's gone. The racism was like none other.

Only one person challenged the minstrel photo.

I'm still extremely wary as a lot of mc posters are here commenting on my threads and trolling the H&M threads.

Thanks biwi

Yeah but that’s my point. The thread that was in response to ‘another one’ (or another several) was Mumsnetters talking about racism.

So in short, sometime in late 2011, some BAME women talked about their experiences with racism. They had the audacity to start more than one thread. I presume at least one thread was about racism in small white villages based on the responses on the thread.

And the response was for white middle class women to fall about hooting with laughter at it. Someone mentioned racism! How funny! How hilarious! Black jelly babies snigger I must be racist! Giggle tee hee.

Dare I say it is all there in black and white with no attempt of humour whatsoever. Someone started threads about racism, and it was seen as a laughing matter.

It’s there. An uncomfortable part of MN history sure. You’ve been here years. I’m sure you know and like some of those posters. It’s still there. I’m sorry.

BIWI · 16/10/2020 11:27

No, I think you're missing the point of that thread!

But don't want to argue.

I do, indeed, know some of those posters, and I can assure you that they really, really aren't racist and nor would they post racist stuff.

It would be interesting to find the original thread that this one is related to.

rainyoutside · 16/10/2020 11:31

I don’t want to argue either biwi but I haven’t missed the point of that thread, you have. And insisting that I’m the one who missed the point because the posters on it are people you like is a big part of the problem.

skedaddIe · 16/10/2020 12:03

I couldn't agree more with @rainyoutside

Just because people are 'pleasant' and 'twee' in some interactions doesn't give them a pass to do racist shit and not 'be racist'

That thread was a problem and everyone on it was a problem and everyone defending those people is a problem.

rainyoutside · 16/10/2020 12:25

I’m also sure a lot of those posters would come back and recognise that. And if they don’t they continue to be part of the problem.

It’s ingrained into us from an early age that racism is bad. So bad that we think by denying colour altogether is actually polite. The fact we might actually have somehow absorbed a superior attitude is a horrifying one, isn’t it?

If you are white and your response to black women talking about their experience of racism on threads is to laugh and say things like My slippers are black! I went there and i don’t like black jelly babies and maybe it (racism) did but you didn’t know about it Grin (because you know, black women just keep getting offended for no reason) and apparently MN has an annual racismstravaganza and someone called me a chocolate face but it was all right coz it was in the non racist sense

It’s not good. It was also posted on by some well loved names. Uncomfortable, isn’t it?

Do I think that those posters are racist? Well no, probably not, although I do think there’s a sense of superiority there but whether that’s superiority of black women generally or just wanting to police the content of MN, I’m not sure. I do think that laughing at racism which try as people might that thread is - is wrong.

So that’s where we were.

Where are we today? I don’t think we’d get away with a thread like that. That’s good. I think more people would say ‘not cool.’ That’s also good.

Challenging racism takes courage. It’s easy to sneer at a BNP member on the telly. Hard when it’s one of your mates isn’t it?

BIWI · 16/10/2020 12:35

OK.

rainyoutside · 16/10/2020 12:39

No, you’re not getting away that easily, Biwi! Grin

You have been here years. You are decent, honest, certainly not racist, and loyal.

I am not blaming you for being loyal to old friends. But can you or can’t you see that thread is as bad as any linked to on mums talking place?

Courage here woman! Grin

ThinSlicePizza · 16/10/2020 13:31

It's interesting that the person is from reddit. They the groups tried reddit first and I am guessing it didnt work. What they constantly did was post about post on mn 🤦‍♀️🙄

ThinSlicePizza · 16/10/2020 13:34

I genuinely think a lot of people have these attitudes ingrained into them. I also think more people are waking up to them which can only be a good thing

With everything else you have said. It used to be horrible. Let's not forget the horrible doll/toy that always popup. The pool and skin plus child jokes used to be horrifying.

rainyoutside · 16/10/2020 13:49

Which person is from reddit?

BIWI · 16/10/2020 18:27

@rainyoutside

It's not about having courage (although thank you for the lovely things you've said - much appreciated), it's just that we're going to disagree.

I think it's about tone and context and you disagree.

I'm also mindful of where I'm posting, which is why I'm 'withdrawing', as it were.

I have no desire to offend and absolutely no desire or intention to support racism or racist posters.

ThinSlicePizza · 16/10/2020 19:50

@rainyoutside

Similar/same people from mumchat. I dont remember specific names. About 3-4 yrs go there was a huge complaint about the layout of mn, restriction of content i.e what people can say, lots of threads were being pulled by dailymail including "do you have receipt ". A sub mn group was then created on reddit. It lastd a while but I dont know how it ended. Then tattle happened with their scandle and it drew a lot of people from mn. Instead of moving to tattle. A new website was created to cater fo thsy group of people.

@HeIenaDove

all the old usernames are gone now Ive just checked. They all show as Visitor. Im not going back there. I have no idea if anyone would be able to use my username. I havent posted after Sunday 11 October just to be clear. Bit worrying I dont want someone pretending to be me. Though i dont know if thats possible. I hope not.

If you're really not going to go back there re-reg with this user name, HelenaDove, I'm very happy to keep an eye out for anyone grabbing it and claiming they're you. I'm keeping a beady out for trouble on there. I also had a couple of run-ins with the mis-named 'Lovely' Joanna and she asked me as well to provide proof of racism; I don't know why I wasn't banned and BIWI was though. I've actually deleted my account under that name and re-regged with another.

Roussette · 16/10/2020 20:18

I have no idea who's who elsewhere and here.

BUT if I see one mention of my name on t'other site, I will wipe the fucking floor with them.

@ThinSlicePizza

I'm really, really offended by your claim. How dare you?

BoreOfWhabylon · 16/10/2020 21:02

Trolls and Gfs everywhere @BIWI. Flowers
Your posting record on MN goes back years and is there for all to see. Unlike that poster

BIWI · 16/10/2020 21:10

Thanks @BoreOfWhabylon

Actually, this has really upset me. I do not have a racist bone in my body. I've lobbied hard for the Black Mumsnetters board, in support of @PatricksRum (and others). So to be accused like this by @ThinSlicePizza is not only unfair and untrue, it's also incredibly hurtful.

BoreOfWhabylon · 16/10/2020 21:16

It's inexcusable. I hope MNHQ bans that person.

Roussette · 16/10/2020 21:34

BIWI Anyone with an ounce of sense know that. Flowers

BIWI · 16/10/2020 21:47

Thanks @Roussette Flowers and @BoreOfWhabylon Flowers

BIWI · 16/10/2020 21:47

However, this is now derailing the thread, so I shall move on and withdraw.

C130 · 17/10/2020 09:59

Biwi your integrity shows in the way you post. You have been a positive voice.

Quaagars · 17/10/2020 10:33

@rainyoutside

Because you said the word in your post.

It is back and it seems just the same. Anyone objecting to the racism gets banned, in case anyone is wondering why no one is objecting to the racism.

It's disgusting that calling out any racism makes you get banned Angry Sad
