Part 2

David then cut the chord and Thomas was taken to the other room where 2nd midwife weighed him and left him with David before coming back to suture my 2nd degree tear. This was a bit of a palava with one sewing and the other holding a big torch! It took longer than I expected and I still had not fed my baby.

Once I was settled on the settee he latched on instantly like a pro and the biological nurturing stuff was very useful. He has only really cried as he passed meconium so far so we might have a placid child this time. Daddy has done both nappies so far. Is it unusual that he did not need a nappy doing between 16:30 and midnight? He also goes red in the face as he poos which is a useful indicator.

Overall I think I got everything I wanted. I would rather not have torn and I hoped that the water would reduce my need of gas and air (which it didn't seem to) but as I went from 4cm to birth in 1h 10mins I suppose the contractions needed to be intense.

Zeeky · 09/05/2010 06:35

Fantastic news rlp! so glad you got the birth you wanted in the end. Thought I'd quickly check here for any updates & so glad I did!

All these big overdue boys are finally arriving. Typical men being so late !

baby2isoverdue · 09/05/2010 08:09

Hooray - congratulations rlp - a lovely 9 pounder!
Still nowt here but will definitely be joining you within 24/36 hours as the induction is scheduled for tomorrow morning (unless I'm really unlucky and the induced labour then takes days and days but the mw thinks that's unlikely what with the 'cervix being so favourable' etc etc)
I'm so over this now - bring on the sleepless nights and cracked nipples - yay!

ilovesprouts · 09/05/2010 12:24

hi Guys

Baby Phoebe was born at 3.22 AM on the 8th weighing in at 8lb and 1 oz.

We are home now after a very tramatic rush to theatre post labour. Feeling very week and tired but of course incredibility happy.

Am breastfeeding but finding it very hard, my nipples are very sore and cracked and for some reason there is nothing coming out of my right boob, know its there though as hurts like hell.

Going to check out the BF threads see if i can get any ideas.

Congrats to Bood see we did it in the end.

ilovesprouts · 11/05/2010 16:56

rav81 congrats

ilovesprouts · 11/05/2010 16:57

sorry ray 81

Boodstress · 11/05/2010 18:23

Ray81 that is fantastic news, we really did get there in the end. Hope the post labour theatre wasn't too traumatic. It's such early days on the feeding, sore Nips are unavoidable although lanashol is the best cream without a doubt, lashings of it and a squirt of your milk and let it air dry at the end. My tendency would be to keep feeding from the lazier breast and express from the other but I haven't had that issue so I'm sure someone who went through it could advise. Many congratulatulations & good luck.

Just reread that there is nothing coming out of that breast, have you tried hot/cold compresses and massaging the ducts? Phobhe is the best person to right the problem though I'm sure. Hope I have spelt her name right , am on the iPhone and can't zoom up and check. Beautiful name it is too x

ray81 congratulations! Hope you are recovering OK. Phoebe is a gorgeous name.
Re the boobs, my right one is much less efficient than the left, which I could use to set up a dairy farm. I can barely get anything out of the right when I express, but I know that Alexander can feed from it OK. It's a bit better this time than with DD, but there's a noticeable difference between the two. I would suggest you try expressing on that boob, even if you don't get much out you are stimulating the breast and it might hurt less than letting Phoebe nibble on it . You just have to keep at it and let her feed from it, and it will get better, promise!

Bettymum · 13/05/2010 10:27

Poor girl, will be thinking of her today and sending positive thoughts x

baby2isoverdue · 13/05/2010 13:59

ilovesprouts - goodluck to your DD today, sounds like it's definitely happening so I hope they let her in soon.
My wait is finally over as we had our girl on Monday at 6.27pm after a mercifully quick labour (just under 4 hours).
Had been so upset to miss chance of delivering in birth centre but in the end it didn't matter because the MWs on the labour ward were lovely and let me have the much-wanted waterbirth.
Waters were broken at 2.30pm and had half an hour of monitoring before being told I could go for a walk to bring on the contractions. The second I stood up the contractions started at a rate of 3 every 10 mins so the walk was not necessary in the end!
MW advised me to stay on the bed as I felt really light-headed then as soon as I got my hands on the gas&air everything became a lot easier. After an hour and a half on the bed I asked for the birthpool and they agreed so long as "enough progress had been made". Luckily the cervix was already 6cm so I got in. The force of gravity from being upright in water meant I was in transition within half an hour which took me a bit by surprise but then things slowed down quite a bit for the pushing part.
Must have been pushing for at least an hour and eventually the little chubba came out weighing 10lb5oz!! Ouch! MW who examined me last Sat said 'Oh yeah - she'll be about 8lbs'. Still not quite sure how I managed to deliver such a massive baby as I'm not exactly a big person - if I'd known I think I would've asked for an induction at 40 weeks!
She's a little cracker and has the chubbiest cheeks I've ever seen. Not surprisingly she is a rather enthusiastic feeder. Anyway we still haven't thought of a name so I won't update the list just yet.
Anyone else waiting now or are we all just rooting for Sprout's DD now??

Zeeky · 13/05/2010 15:07

Fantastic news baby2. Another whopper! Do I still hold the record with 10lb 7.5oz??

Fingers crossed for ilovesprouts' dd. They've almost all arrived now!
