Looking at figures online, it seems that about 15% of births locally are induced. I wonder what we would consider the average length of pregnancy to be if we simply stopped inducing?
I would still like a homebirth but am becoming reconciled to the idea that I will be induced again and therefore need to be in hospital.
I am very healthy with only tiredness and minor discomfort but this baby was due out 24th April!

Boodstress · 04/05/2010 17:54

I just had all the pre op chats at the hospital and said to the obs..maybe you could try a sweep since they will try and break my waters on Thurs in a trial of labour if they can so maybe it would help things so I hopped up on the bed and he tried and said he couldn't get at the cervix properly to allow him to sweep. I said what is the likelihood of me being 2 plus cent dialted on Thurs morning to allow them to break the waters and he said unlikely but you never know so all I can say is AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Ok, carbon copy of the last time except this time I am taunted by BH every evening.

rip and baby2isoverdue I am crossing everything for you, I'm sure you will surprise yourselves.

Hey ladies, am still here to, have MW appointment tomorrow and hoping for a sweep to see if that gets her moving. I have been having realy bad back pains today so hoping is the start of something but probably not. When i see MW tomorrow will be booked for induction which am hoping will be at the weekend so can start next week with my new baby.

waiting for DH to get home have found out some not pleasant stuff and have to confront him about it, adrenaline is running like mad and i feel so sorry for my baby.
I have a thread in relationships if anyone wants to check it out and give me some advise.

ilovesprouts · 04/05/2010 18:43

hey ladys dd had her 2nd sweep today and has now got backache !!mw says she wont go till sunday[shes coming bk then]and if no movement she wil get induced !!

AdelaideJo · 04/05/2010 18:43

Hi Bood just wanted to say best of luck for Thursday if your baby doesn't arrive before then. Try to stay positive in any event (easy for others to say, I know). My DD is now 8 days old and I can't really recall much about the days preceeding her arrival nor the birth itself really except snippets.

flybynight · 04/05/2010 19:35

Can I post in a bit more detail now?

My homebirth went swimmingly. Not literally, no water involved, but you know what I mean. Baby Flora was born at 40+7 on 1 May at 5.55pm, an hour and a half after the MWs got there. I had some g&A in the last 25 mins, which I didn't have in my last labour but I found myself really wanting this time.

My hasband sat on the sofa and I leaned into his lap. We had constant eye contact, which I found SO helpful. The waters broke five minutes before she was born, and she started crying when her head was out but her body wasn't. It was the strangest sensation to feel her fill her lungs before her shoulders were out.

It was such gentle process, start to finish. Were it not for the fact that Flora is DC4 and my family is now complete (!)I'd certainly do it that way again.

I think it was the rather brutal sweep at 40+5 that got me going. Everything felt different after that. Good luck ladies. It WILL happen. It will.

Bettymum · 05/05/2010 09:21

Hi ladies, wow at your birth stories Zeeky and flybynight. Am welling up a bit at the thought of your constant eye contact flybynight, that is so beautiful. I think I had my eyes shut for most of my labour.
Sending lots of labour vibes to the ladies still waiting, best of luck with all the sweeps and hopefully they all get things moving!

ilovesprouts · 05/05/2010 14:03

dd has not pains at all mw coming bk on sunday

baby2isoverdue · 05/05/2010 15:41

same here - all pains gone so seeing mw again tomorrow morning for 2nd s&s. Perhaps I should get one from flybynight's mw! I'm guessing that me and rlp have until this weekend to get these babies out naturally before the 'induction-heavies' come a-knocking.
Any news from ray81 and boodstress today??

ray81 · 05/05/2010 16:02

Hey guys still here. Have been booked for induction on Fri and hoping against hope that it happens tonight or tomorrow, but to look on the bright side at least she will be here at the weekend whatever happens. The end is in sight thankfully. realy fed up with being Pg now.

anyways will keep you all updated am excited i will be meeting my little baby soon.

rlp · 05/05/2010 16:04

Yes, I have currently agreed to induction on Monday 10th (but wonder whether I might try to bargain again?) My main constraint though is that I don't want to spoil my daughter's 4th birthday party booked for saturday (birthday not until sunday) and I know inductions can sometimes take a while.

rlp · 05/05/2010 16:06

I haven't even had a sweep yet though so am going for that on Friday (unless things start naturally of course.)

Boodstress · 05/05/2010 18:46

Hi guys, I am in at 7.30 in the morning when they will try and break my waters, otherwise they will section me. Either way there will be a baby by the end of the day as they would only let me labour for 10 hours. I have had a surreal day and can't really believe I am going to meet my baby tomorrow but I am excited. I so wanted to labour naturally but I have accepted the way things are and now I just want to stop being pregnant and start being a mum of two. Overdue ladies I can't wait to hear your exciting news. I will update from hospital as I will have to be in there for 3 bloody nights BTW I read on here about putting your fists underneath your bottom (to lift your cervix forward) for internals and sweeeps and it made the world of difference yesterday - for those of you who find them .
Til tomorrow then....

c-section me as oppose to section me due to madness

OP posts:
Jennysbean · 05/05/2010 20:51

Laughing at the 'section' bood I felt ready for a straightjacket I can tell you after 10 days of waiting.
Best of luck and when you have your lovely baby all the waiting will be forgotten.
xx

baby2isoverdue · 05/05/2010 20:56

Good luck for tomorrow Bood hope it all goes ok (or better still that something happens tonight!)
Weird to think that this time tomorrow you'll definitely have your baby. Lucky you.
Good luck to everyone else too - maybe we'll all go into spontaneous labour tonight??

ilovesprouts · 06/05/2010 08:42

dd still here mw coming sunday then in duction for her next fri if baby not here !!

Bettymum · 06/05/2010 08:55

Good luck boodstress I guess things will be happening by now!

rlp · 06/05/2010 09:30

Still waiting. I just seem to be constantly making (then changing) arrangements for who will have DD for me if I go into labour. Mum was going to have her for me overnight but now has D&V bug and can't do it! I have managed to get her in with our childminder tomorrow, even though she doesn't normally work fridays. Evening times should be OK as we are hoping for homebirth and can also ask those friends who work during the day.

Boodstress · 06/05/2010 09:59

Real time reporting... They were able to do a sweep but not break the waters but are going to leave me cause they are really busy and try to break waters later. Cervix is v soft apparently. I am not giving up yet ladies!!!

Zeeky · 06/05/2010 12:28

ilovesprouts · 06/05/2010 15:38

Snowtiger · 06/05/2010 16:00

Hi ladies, just catching up a bit with all the news, typing one fingered while feeding Wilf! Congrats to Zeeky and Flybynight ( and bloody HELL Zeeky 10lb 7oz????!!! Wilf's 5 weeks old and still not that big!) and good luck to Boodstress you must be up to something by now!

Life with a toddler and baby is busy but good fun in places - DS1 decided he wanted to be potty trained last weekend which wasn't the ideal time but he was brilliant bless him, got the hang of it in 2 days. He has grown up so much since baby arrived.

Hope everyone's getting on OK - wish I had more time to read / post on here!

baby2isoverdue · 06/05/2010 19:21

Had induction appt with doctor today and we were there for FIVE HOURS! (30 mins of that spent being monitored and 10 mins being scanned but the rest of the time waiting). Got so bored waiting I popped down to birth centre for chat with the mw and another impromptu S&S. She is convinced the cervix is 'favourable' and we will have baby by Sat. I don't know what to think anymore but really hoping she's right. If not, the induction will be on Monday morning and this waiting game will be over.
On the plus side at least I got to vote and if the contractions start tonight I may well end up watching all the results come in (which might distract me from the pain!)

baby2isoverdue · 06/05/2010 19:22

Wonder if bood has had her baby yet??
