Just to clarify, I meant it seems like the calm before the storm. I think there's going to be loads of posts over the next few days announcing the births of beautiful babies (all with fabulous names naturally) who were born on 2nd March 2010!

Pixie, hope you feel better

westlondongirl · 02/03/2010 19:36

Congrats Dr S! Well after my sweep yesterday I went for a long walk today and lost my mucus plug this afternoon (don't worry I found it again ) No contractions yet but hopefully things are moving along. Going to the hospital tomorrow lunchtime for another sweep so will see what they say then.

hecklephone · 02/03/2010 21:08

Congratulations scooby and drskid - I really like the names you've both chosen and hope you're all having a lovely first few days.

Had an appointment with the MW today which was a bit . Not bad, not good, just not very informative. All the usual checks were fine but I mentioned my concern that baby might be back to back, and there was no real confirmation or denial. I'm fairly certain she is - I can feel lots of limbs poking out these days and I just reckon she may well be at least sideways. Better start leaning forward a bit more I guess, just in case. And the other thing was that they think I should deliver in the hospital's labour suite, instead of its new midwife-led centre, which is what I was hoping for . It's because I'm still suffering some vertigo from having Ramsay Hunt and it's an illness they don't know much about so I guess they're just being wary. She says there is still a pool in the labour suite, although I'm not sure how available it'll be. I guess we'll just have to wait and see - maybe the dizziness will clear up in the next few days before I go into labour [hopeful emoticon]...or I could just lie and tell them I'm completely fine but then if I did feel weird I'd probably get found out! Anyway no point worrying about something I can't change and might be irrelevant at the end of the day - I guess I'm just a bit miffed that I don't have the choice.

Glad to report DH has cheered up a bit - apparently all it takes is a bit of decent conversation and some - erm - 'manual attention' and now he's more like himself! Men are so much less complicated than us... And on that note, well done to those of you 'getting some' at this late stage - it's SO off the table in our bedroom til well after baby arrives I'm afraid! I'm not sure I'll even be up for it if we're well overdue!! (although I reserve the right to change my mind)

Right - off to watch OBEM.

Henrietta · 02/03/2010 21:12

angfirsttimer you mentioned a cream egg - well I HAD to have one - good job my mum had one for me to head into hosp with....

nope nothing happening - had a fall yesterday and had to go in and get bloods done cos of rhesus stuff.
3 more pages to go through...

Diana I met couple local mums first time round at NCT groups - they do local meetups, failing that go to a local toddler group - they won't care you haven't got a toddler they're usually based at churches/community centres.

have been having tightenings (BH) for couple weeks now - coming every 15 mins today but was that actually one I could feel!!!???

mum7+4 happy that you're coming to terms with choice - I still question mine and have been looking through all notes trying to reassure myself...esp as today in hosp ward was VVbusythank goodness wasn't in labour at sleeps - im more still at weeks than sleeps stage.

DRSKID yippee yippee now got to find if you've posted anything else...

mummyelk congrats with success so far with potty hope cont to go well.

AM LOVING the nice weather - both boys been outside all afternoon, so will sleep well tonight.

pixie happy bday.

smac all the best
Congrats to Scooby & DRSKID westLGirl Lol at plug hopefully thatll kick start things.

BuzyMissIzzy cant find your q on cats but mine isnt reacting except I cant see him when he gets under my feet. I got him when he was about 8wks old (stray) and had an amusing story of him climbing all over me - couldn't work out what he wanted round neck no - down again on lap ...finally realised he could smell DS2's milk as he was 3months old at the time & I was BF. felt really guilty he was missing his mum then, but I know a couple of sibling kittens didn't make it so hes fine.

donttrythisathome · 02/03/2010 23:56

Congrats to Scooby and DrSkid

Nothing happening on my front - am now overdue by one day.

Following everyone else's stories with interest....

Dalrymps · 03/03/2010 08:49

COngratulations to Scooby and DrSkid

Just popping in to say I know I don't have time to post properly that often but am really enjoying following the thread anyway

Due on sat 6th, nothing significant happening yet, getting period type crampyness most days now but judging by last time that could go on for quite a while.

Have spend every waking minute since last thursday leaning forward or on all fours to try and turn this back to back baby. Am fed up of it and just want to slouch on the sofa humf!

Arcadie · 03/03/2010 08:55

Skidaddle! Well done you old girl! Thank you for giving me hope that overdue people don't always have to be induced! Feel positively teary eyed that you've finally had him. Good work!

IWCAS Have had 5 sweeps and 2 ARMs. None very comfortable but NONE of them seriously painful. At All. Really. I promise.

annamama · 03/03/2010 09:21

Hi Dalrymps, well done crawling on all fours etc! I'm trying too and thought I could feel baby's back yesterday so maybe has turned around...

Anyone cried at OBEM? Maybe because the baby's name was Ellie (like my DD), it really set me off. Oh and I wish I could have a birth like the mother of 5!

What a lovely sunny day yesterday! I was sitting outside in just a t-shirt (oh and PJ bottoms) with the sun warming my face. Was thinking if it was summer it would be nice to give birth outside, in a tranquil forest or on a flowery meadow...?

OP posts:
Shroomer · 03/03/2010 09:32

Annamamma I love the idea of giving birth in a tranquil forest, with a stream babbling past. Lovely.

Arcadie: you tease! I'm not on Facebook, nor do I have a mobile phone, and yet I'm feeling more and more pressure to join Facebook (e.g. to join 6Music campaign and to see fellow MNetters), and to get a mobile (that seems to be how my NCT ante-natal group communicate).

OBEM made me cry too. Joy was the right name for that woman, her face when she saw her baby was just beautiful. Feeling a bit misty eyed just thinking about it.

Many congrats to scooby and drskid on their arrivals.

Well done on managing to do something creative (apart from baby production) IWCAS. I've reached the think about it and then decide I really can't be bothered stage now unless forced into action by DD (which happens quite a lot).

re cats - we banned ours from the bedroom when DD1 arrived for a bit, but strangely enough he seems to have found his way back on to the duvet now (usually right in the middle between me and DH so neither of us has enough duvet but the cat is all snuggly - hmmm). Can't remember what point he wheedled his way back in, but it didn't take long. I can thoroughly recommend feliway if you've got an anxious animal though - we used it when our cat first came home from Battersea and hid under the floorboards for almost two weeks. Long story - but the only thing that got him out was feliway and he's been fine ever since!

Pox-watch is continuing here - DD had some suspicious spots on her face yesterday but then DH pointed out that was where she'd got pizza all over her the day before. He was right - spots have gone this morning. I am still on tenterhooks though AND I've got a cold courtesy of DH. Not happy. On the plus side I've got the morning to myself for once and I'm not going to do anything other than put my feet up - all household chores can wait. Bliss.

BusyMissIzzy · 03/03/2010 10:16

Morning everyone, looks like another sunshiney(ish) day. I had a dreadful night last night, awake every hour on the hour for no apparent reason. Bump feels very big/tight/uncomfortable at night; I really hope I don't go too long overdue if every night is going to be like that! Dalrymps I've been crampy for a few days too; how long was it for you last time?

I've decided to measure the rest of my pregnancy in OBEM episodes rather than days/weeks (i.e. how many more episodes will I see before I go through it myself?). I keep apologising to DH in advance in case I'm grumpy/shouty/horrible when I'm in labour; Joy was like a different person once she had the baby. And when she was that the mw's whole hand was used for internal exam, anyone else think "Well you might have a whole baby coming out of there soon!"?

Henrietta I've heard about cats trying to nurse from BFing mums; I think that would freak me right out!

Arcadie that's just mean! Now we have to wait again... nothing on the FB group, must be someone I'm not friends with. Still, yay for more babies!

Still no word from MawBroon? Must be good news by now, surely?

Sending good vibes to those of us waiting, and turny vibes to them what need 'em

swingsofglory · 03/03/2010 10:42

MummyElk - you're quite right. Haven't felt the same about the cat since the arrival of DD1 either and I think you're right, he knew when I was pregnant and is careful to never tread on the bump! He lives a fine life here and does nothing but eat and sleep though so I don't think he's exactly suffering from being demoted in my affections.

MummyElk and swings agree with you about the cat; mine jumped onto my bump when I was sleeping at about 16 weeks pg and I was terrified the baby might have been hurt. Feels awful to say but I knew right away that if it came down to baby or cat I wouldn't hesitate to get rid of the cat I got the cat before I even met DH, she is semi-feral and it took me 2 months to coax her out from my wardrobe after I got her. She's always been my baby and it actually makes me quite sad to know that's going to change. Gah, I sound like a crazy cat lady, dont I?

LaTristesse · 03/03/2010 11:16

You lot have very well behaved animals - mine (cat) knows very well there's a baby in there as he keeps getting shoved from underneath when he clambers all over me just as he always has done... He has been banned from the nursery though in advance - and seems mighty pissed off by it all already. Maybe it's because I've been playing him MP3s of babies crying to try and prepare him.

I (naively, I hope) worry that I don't know how I'll ever love a child as much as I love my cat - I'm hoping something just naturally kicks in at some point.

Well done on the new arrivals, and LOL mummyelk at your exploratory rummaging - I might ask my DH to have a go (thankfully he has very small hands!) but to be honest it's hard enough getting him to go through some breathing exercises with me. Sometimes I wonder if he really knows what's about to hit him!

hecklephone · 03/03/2010 11:22

No fair all of you talking about your pets - I really want one!! Would love a cat to curl up on my lap (with or without bump) but DH is a bit about animals. I'm hoping when the DDs are a bit older their pleas of 'Daddy pleeeeeeaase can we have a kitten/puppy' will be too much for him to resist! I won't mind looking after them - honest!

IWCAS Ramsay Ramsay Ramsay I must admit I still really love the name for a baby, and I associate it more with you and your DS, not the illness, if that's not too weird!

I'll have to suss out the proximity of MW led centre to Labour suite - it would be nice to use the shiny new place instead of the hospital-y one. Although watching all the different births on OBEM is reminding me that labours can be so different from what you plan, there may be no point in planning anything in particular, maybe it's best to just go with the flow...

Agree that sweeps are really rather uncomfortable but I don't remember it being as painful as Joy seemed to think it was - maybe she was a bit, um, tense? I've to decide if I want one at my MW appt next Tuesday - I'll decide nearer the time, depending on how fed up I am!

Good births on OBEM last night and I too was quite that Kelly sucked on the G&A THE WHOLE TIME. I wanted the midwife to wrestle it off her and tell her to get on with it!

shroomer you should DEFINITELY get a mobile! I relied on mine a lot last time to make plans with other mums, and that was before I got the iphone I have now which I just LOVE for keeping up with FB, MN and the usual texting etc to make plans. I think it's going to prove invaluable over the next few weeks of being welded to the sofa while BFing!

Arcadie gooo ooooonnnn, tell us!!! No? Ok, have it your way.

annamama · 03/03/2010 11:23

We had a cat when I was a teenager, I used to think I would never love anything as much as I loved that cat... now I just laugh at that. You will still love your cats of course but loving a child is just on another level.

OP posts:
hecklephone · 03/03/2010 11:25

Oh yes, and LOL Mummyelk at your midnight midwifery...your DH is game for a laugh, isn't he?? I would love to see my DH's face if I suggested similar shenanigans! In fact, maybe I will, just to see what happens...!!

annamama · 03/03/2010 11:25

Oh and MummyElk, I read your cervix story to my DH, he was not impressed and thinks he can do better... we'll see!
