Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
somewhathorrified · 28/12/2009 20:06

liskey congratulations!

biccy paper towels? not heard that one. I've been told a couple of dust sheets, 1 or 2 bin liners and as many towels as I have. oh and no naked flames , so no open fire, candles or anything nice like that. Desperately trying to think what the paper towels are for.

Sixmincepiessoontobeseven · 28/12/2009 20:33

Hi all

Not been on for a while as have been in agony, thought our lo was coming yesterday but all went quiet about 3am, started up again about lunch time today and have felt v.sick all day. Have sister and mum on standby. Would be good if came this week as family over from belgium and everyone else is off work, but it'll be sods law and hang on.
It has felt very different, the last two days though, proper pressure and pain underneath when baby moves.

liskey congrats on baby Ellie

cant good luck and a speedy delivery/recovery

Hope everyone else is okay, sorry if I've missed anything important, I will catch up asap

sazlocks · 28/12/2009 20:34

MMB glad Thomas is home with you
alibobins hope Jacob picks up feeding wise and the MW is helpful when you see her
CTOFN good luck for tomorrow - sounds like the end of this pregnancy can't come soon enough for you !
Liskey huge congrats - hope you are getting back on your feet after your c section.
ampster going to borrow the birthing wish list idea ! as birth plan (after last time) seems like a laughable idea
So , so far I have on mine

no induction
no assisted delivery - CS in preference to that
Natural 3rd stage if possible
Oral Vit K if not contraindicated clinically
Immediate skin to skin after birth

Bottom line is healthy baby and healthy mummy so will trust clinical judgement of staff to do what needs doing to ensure that happens.

Got a consultant appointment tomorrow (if I can make it through the snow) so will see where I am after that.

bethoo · 28/12/2009 20:58

just a quick hello. i am 39 weeks now and getting impatient!!
congrats to all those who have had their babies.
glad Thomas is well and back home.not read the whole thread as been off line for a while.
parents are down in th hope baby comes before due date which i am too.
ex dp being a nightmare at the mo texting me i am a slut and evne stalking ex boyfriends etc telling them that if i am fucking them again then they should use condoms as i have STIs! yes we will be getting back together, yes when hell freezes over!
anyway i think he has stopped as now he has gone from
mr evil to me remorseful though we have been there before!

Fibilou · 28/12/2009 21:00

sazlocks, I would much prefer to go straight for a c/s in an assisted delivery situation (especially if it's anything more than the last little bit) - can this be specified on a birth plan and would they stick to it ?
I would rather have a section recovery than some of the damage caused by forceps.

mistletoekisses · 28/12/2009 21:11

Liskey - once again congratulations. Hope that you are doing ok after the early arrival. Are you feeling ok?

CTFN - I await your text with baited breath! Hope too many emergencies dont delay your section.

Devotion - we have had a mass clear out today also. Actually taken all the Christmas decs down too. I can never do the 12 nights of Christmas. Always want my house back once Christmas day is over.

Sixmince - hope that you are feeling better. I had my mum with us over Christmas, but she has had to go home for a few days. So as much as I am willing this bub to come; am now nervous about it coming without her here to look after DS. To top it off the snow is making me nervous....am sure it will all work out fine.

Hope everyones birth plans go to plan. Especially the homebirthers.

Biccy · 28/12/2009 21:19

somewhat, they also want 2 hot water bottles (though I pointed out my tumble dryer may be as good a bet for warming towels), lots of old towels and sheets and a really good torch or angle poise lamp. Not sure either what the paper towels are for, though it specifies that it must still be in its plastic wrapper, implying it needs to be clean, implying they are going to mop up me and/or the baby with it?! What shall I go for, Bounty, Thirst Pockets, or Tesco Value?

Liskey · 28/12/2009 21:20

Cheers for that - yes we were together but Christmas wasn't much fun as I really missed my DH. Photo's will be attached in a few minutes!

CantThinkofFunnyName · 28/12/2009 21:29

SixMincePies..... well I did say that I wouldn't be able to wish you a Happy Birthday tomorrow so here's my early arrival...

Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday SixMincePiesSoonToBeSeven....
Happy Birthday to you!

and maybe, just maybe your little mincepie has been having warm ups just to get going for tomorrow

Liskey - many many congratulations to you and so pleased you are now home and able to settle with Ellie.

Sazlocks/Fibilou - I totally agree with you on the assisted delivery. Indeed, that is the very reason I am having a c/s tomorrow is that I was told categorically that if I were to deliver vaginally, I would need assisted delivery to prevent too much pushing at the end.... hence my complete meltdown and telling medics I would rather hell freeze over!

Bethoo - you really have been landed in it with your XP haven't you? Well done for keeping a clear head and seeing him for what he really is, it could have been quite easy to give in at this difficult time. Sending you as many birthing vibes as I can so that LO arrives whilst you have your family around you . Keep strong and tell him to go to hell

Ooooh - going to finish off my cuppa, take my tablet that the hospital gave me to take tonight (some kind of antacid thing) and then off to bed. It's a bit like being a kid and going to bed early so that Santa comes quicker!!!

xx

Fraochsmum · 28/12/2009 21:40

I'm just back from the pub - woohoo! Loved my catch up with the girls, even if it was just a couple bottles of water, slightly marred by someone being sick outside
Congratulations Liskey what a beautiful name (one we would have considered but is already our neices name), can't wait to see your photos! Hope you are recovering well.
Lovely to hear from you Bethoo, but sorry your ex is such a pain in the rear
Thinking of you tomorrow cantthink xxx
Love your 3rd point Fibilou - that is exactly what I will be saying too!
Biccy probably best to go for the brand name, you will end up using twice as much Tesco value ;)
Hope you get some peace soon sixmince x

CantThinkofFunnyName · 28/12/2009 21:46

Liskey - hung around long enough to view the pics. She is GORGEOUS!!!!! x

OP posts:
Mama2b5 · 28/12/2009 22:31

Hi all - Congrats to you Liskey - I know the early arrival of Ellie must of been a shock! 36 weeks - must say good birth weight! i guess your blood pressure wasnt a concern before?but was on appt!
And shes home with you wonderful!

Alibobin - Hope jacob - is well soon!
CTOFN - Good Luck abd quick recovery, finally your time has arrived!

i have decided to justt take it easy and have just been relaxing leaving all things to DH! i need to do a birth plan but can i really be bothered is the real question!

sazlocks · 29/12/2009 05:29

fibilou don't know about whether they will stick to it or not - my worry is that apparently it becomes more dangerous to perform a c section if the baby has already started to move down so they are more likely in that situation to try and persuade me towards an assisted delivery and I am worried that I won't feel like I have any choice. I am going to write it in my birth plan and talk to my consultant about it later today.
sixmincepies happy birthday

Venting alert

I am erring towards the side of an elective c section at the moment. I can't believe how far I have come since I was pregnant with DS and did months of hypnobirthing stuff in prep for our planned home birth. I thought last time that if I planned and wished for something hard enough then it would turn out that way. As the eventual reality couldn't have been further from that I feel like the only way of controlling the situation (which I know sounds slightly bonkers) is to try and persuade the consultant to book me in for a c section. Where I am they have a really low rate of c sections compared to the national average and strongly encourage VBAC so I think I am going to have a job on my hands.

Sixmincepiessoontobeseven · 29/12/2009 06:04

Ridiculously early good morning to all. As you can see I again have had an awful night but nothing to productive I don;t think

cant thankyou for the birthday song, and I hope everything goes smoothly for you and yours today. Look forward to hearing some news. Fabulous day to have a birthday I might add. I love the analogy of mine being a little mince pie warming up (sad but true) awwwww!

saz thankyou for the happy birthday, hope you get what you want when you see consultant today.

bethoo was thinking about you yesterday, nice to hear from you. sorry xdp is being a twat but it shows what hes really like (mental) stay strong.

Going to get on couch with pinched dd2 quilt for a while (well she is in my lovely warm kingsize so fair trade me thinks). Check back later.

37+3

CantThinkofFunnyName · 29/12/2009 06:28

SixMincePies - a ridiculously early good morning to you too. Have a foreboding feeling.... have not stopped vomitting since about 10pm last night, including the latest about 15 mins ago. Have not slept a wink. Don't actually feel ill and the first vomit was a gag reflex when I took co-dydramol for SPD. I think the rest has just been a continuation of once I started, I couldn't stop, IYKWIM!

Oh well, delivery suite say to go in at 8.30am now instead of 8am latest due to handover of staff but I haven't told them about the sickness yet but could just be nerves I guess ...

I'm wondering if they will postpone me .

OP posts:
Sixmincepiessoontobeseven · 29/12/2009 07:08

cant I wouldn't think so, it probably is just nerves. try not to worry to much, good luck everything will be fine, take care x

alibobins · 29/12/2009 08:46

Sixmincepies.... Happy Birthday wonder if little one turns up on your birthday x x

ctofn sending you best wishes for today hopefully the sickness is just nerves.

liskey lovely pictures

sockmonkey · 29/12/2009 08:47

Good luck today CTOFN. Will be thinking of you. How exciting!

Six Happy birthday to you!

Liskey Yay for baby Ellie! Hope you are settling in and recovering nicely.

Had a great time up north, but think I may have over-done it on the food. Was still wide awake at 5am and had tummy ache. It's funny but every twinge and ache I wonder if this is it!(and hope it isn't)

Fibilou · 29/12/2009 09:40

Have written my birth "plan" this morning. It's 1 side of a small index card, as follows:

  • My birth partner is my husband David
  • In event of hospital transfer I have no preferences other than a healthy baby; I will be guided by medical staff
  • Physiological 3rd stage unless contraindicated
  • Immediate skin to skin + attempt breastfeeding while cord finishes pulsating. David to cut cord
  • If I am unable to hold her please give baby to David after delivery
  • Vit K via injection
  • If I am transferred to hospital I would like to return to Crowborough for post natal care.
whensmydayoff · 29/12/2009 10:52

alibobins Your Jacob is COPYING my Olivia !!

She has been coughing and snuffly nose for ages now. Had her at docs xmas eve and he said she had a viral cold but didn't seem to be in her chest - not convinced. She didn't cough infront of him and he seemed to taked aaaaages listening to her chest and wasn't very sure.

The coughing was making her sick but that seems to have stopped.

The feeding is just a nightmare, you forget don't you (or I did).

Claire Both times I was determined to exclusivly breast feed and both times they needed topped up with formula. I obsessed over the vital first few days colostrum/antibodies being wiped out by the formula but ive been assured by many that this is rubbish. Apparently it's like having a couple of cigarettes - it's not ruined your lungs and as soon as you stop a lot of the damage is repaired. That made me feel better anyway..

It's just so feckin hard and stressful (i find). I said to alibobins just yesterday, oh she doesn't feed much then last night, ugh, on breast with a few short breaks, constantly from 4pm until 11pm. There was just nothing to give as my milk supply is so low and she was frustrated. I then topped her up with a syringe with some expressed milk but that seemed to give her terrible wind.

I know i need to express to get a supply going, especially during the day when she barley feeds but...

    • there never seems to be enough time
    • I worry endlessley that if I express what little I have, what if I havent enough for the next feed and the endless 'empty breast' sucking ensues for hours?

I cracked open my Gina Ford book last night. I had it from DS and swore I wasn't sweating over it this time, I was going to be relaxed and go with the flow..

Haaa ha ha haaaaaaaaaa

The woman knows her stuff though. She has a whole chapter in increasing breast milk and then listed all the reasons I am having the problems I am having like it was written about me and Olivia from day one - smug bitch !

I wonder how CTFN and FPT are getting on. Need more baby's! Great name for a girl CTFN !! My olivia is Olivia Yvonne, after my mum.

Glad little Thomas is home too. Feel sorry for mums like MMB and ali with shaky starts, as if it isn't stressful enough! As it seems to go - Little Thomas and Jacob will be the big strapping babies walking at 9 months and you'll be wondering what all the fuss was about!

whensmydayoff · 29/12/2009 10:54

Congratulations liskey on the birth of Ellie. Just spotted!

devotion · 29/12/2009 10:57

CantThinkofFunnyName - waaaaa hooooooo!

Hope you have now met your little one and recovering well. Sending big hugs, cant wait to hear who has popped out?

Bethoo - i've been thinking about you too. All i can say is you need to thank your lucky stars that you are no longer with that idiot. He sounds like a deranged plum! [angry)... I feel so sorry for you that you have to deal with all this but I have to say I constantly admire your strength. You do not need him around. Take care and BIG hugs and vent here all day everyday if you like

Sixmincepies - HAPPY BIRTHDAY EARLY RISER! [GRIN] hope you have a lovely day x

Sazlocks - why the change of heart? I know so many who had vbacs after c-sections and they were so glad they did. C-sections come with much higher risks etc, if you feel nervous about a homebirth then why not try hospital.

At the end of the day you need to do what feels right and comfortable for you but the only reason the docs will need persuasion is because they would prefer not to perform an operation on you. Can not remember your history now so I am probably talking out of my butt! But thought you might just be having last minute nerves.

Today my friend dropped off her birth pool so we are going to sterilise it first and then try it out to see how long it takes to fill up and how long it holds its heat. Got my homebirth booking app this Thursday but dh is flying off before mw gets here - so annoying. He got a dj booking and we need the dough so it has to be done. Fingers crossed now I dont go into labour while he is away.

Hello to everyone else!!!

x

Mama2b5 · 29/12/2009 11:43

Happy Birthday song -
Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday SixMincePiesSoonToBeSeven....
Happy Birthday to you!

CantThinkOFN- by the time this is posted you will be out and in recovery looking at your lovely LO and thanking God its all over! hiw wonderful is that!

To Jacob/Olivia - who are feeling a bit off - get well soon xxx

Fiblou - well done on birth plan still cant be asked right now maybe later!

Devotion- you better not have your LO before me we are due on the same day but it seem your having some more movement, well last child was 9 years ago so maybe i havent noticed the tell tale signs?

somewhathorrified · 29/12/2009 11:52

biccy I forgot about the hot water bottle...it's for the baby clothes not the towels. You have reminded me that I need to sort out my HB box. Have you had the MW box dropped off yet? The number of catheters in mine is totally scary!

devotion I'm so jealous you got a birthpool! I've been on ebay trying to get one, but I just can't justify paying nearly £100 for something that may or may not be used. Plus there's this nagging feeling that it won't arrive before it's needed.

Everytime I cough at the moment I get a gag reaction, then feel sick for ages. Anyone else got this? DH thinks it's cos everything is being squished by bub.

Good luck to all who are about to meet their LO's.
