OK everyone, here it is. Who will be first to post their announcement I wonder?

SCRUFF1 · 12/07/2005 11:29

Congratulations to all those who have had their babies, I am very jealous! I am now in my 38th week and becoming very impatient as well as a little concerned. I really have no reason to feel fed up as everything (as far as I know) is going to plan regarding the baby, but this morning we have had a letter to say my husband has to have a long awaited operation in early August, which if baby Wilson is late could cause a few problems! Anyone know how soon the idea of being induced would be considered should baby decide he likes it in there?!!

ninah · 12/07/2005 13:41

hello all
Just popped over from the December thread with a quick if mildly innane question - did you measure yourselves round the middle with toilet paper, and if so, how many squares were you at the end of your pregnancy? we're on about 7-8 atm ..

Bagpuss30 · 12/07/2005 17:15

Hi all, just a quick note to say I have posted my birth story here

Merryberry, just read your post about your ds and hope that he is OK. What a horrible time for you. DS2 has been slightly jaundiced and dh and I have been very worried even though he didn't need any treatment, so I can only begin to imagine how you must feel.

Thanks everyone for the congratulations too .

OP posts:
mrsdarcy · 12/07/2005 19:59

Scruff - I've never heard of the toilet paper technique but I'd be of no use to you as I measure 4 weeks more than I really am!

I'm revving up for being induced on Thursday. My in-laws have arrived so I can finally relax a bit knowing that people are around to take care of DS1 and DS2.

Merryberry - how is Vincent doing, and how are you and DP?

pinkmama · 12/07/2005 20:08

Wow Bagpuss - 1.5 hours that is the sort of time I like to hear about! Congratulations and welcome to George.

Appologies for braindeadness earlier, realised I got mums and babies mixed up, so contratulations to Eastyorkshiremum on arrival of William, and Merryberry on arrival of Vincent!

Scruff, I know in Brighton they only let you go to 10 days overdue if that is any help to you. I really hope I dont go that far, and hope things move for you soon!

Ninah, never heard of the toilet paper trick. I know my tummy measures 42in and it reached 44 with my 1st. Just tried the toilet paper and I was 9 squares!

Harriett · 12/07/2005 20:18

hey gals,
just thought you might like a laugh- my dh and I have just changed our minds about our little girl-to-be's name and have been searching the internet for different names- we have just come across this post from an American website (I don't think it's as classy as mumsnet...) with suggestions for more 'unusual names'... what's your favourite?

Big congratulations to Merryberry, Hub2dee, eastyorksmum and Bagpuss30 on your new arrivals. I hope you are all doing well. Good luck to Mrs Darcy on Thursday.

I am getting occassional period like cramps but don't think anything is quite imminent - mainly because I am still trying to finish office work for dh and of course I'm sure the baby will wait until I am ready! I should really fill this inflatable birth pool which is sitting on its' side next me and cool off as it is toooo hot.

Thanks for the name suggestions Harriet! We are totally undecided - not helped by not knowing the sex.

Must take my puffy feet to bed.

Lolasmum · 13/07/2005 10:14

Hello All,
Had a reflexology session last night, then had increasingly painful Braxton Hicks for about 2 hours. They were every 6 minutes. I thought this is it... I went to bed thinking I'll try and get a bit of sleep while I can, and then woke up to go to the toilet in the night and they had all gone. I was so excited. Keep getting the BHs again this morning, but not so painful. I couldn't walk last night whilst I was having them. When is this baby going to come out? I shouldn't be impatient as I've still got 2 days to go officially. Seeing the midwife tomorrow... Do you think its too early for me to request a membrane sweep (or whatever it's called)?

It's the 14th tomorrow. Isn't that the busiest day in the July anti-natal thread? I wonder if anybody will be bang on time?

pinkmama · 13/07/2005 15:42

Poor you lolasmum! I am sure it will come very soon.

Finding it a bit odd now, as I am last of my rl friends to pop and they are obviusly rather busy at the moment, so missing my pregnancy support, and this thread has gone quiet for similar reasons I guess. Surely I cant go until the end of the month - PLEASE!!!!!!!!

Harriet, I have to say I would struggle to choose my favourite from that list, but perhaps woud have to go for Yorketta to appease my yorkshire blood. Some fantastic names there .

SCRUFF1 · 13/07/2005 15:49

Ive been having the same - strong period like pains and bh's. My midwife said it was my cervix getting ready for the 'big day' and very normal in last couple of weeks. I too go to bed hoping something might happen, but to no avail! I seem to get them when Ive been standing doing the ironing for ages - which I'd say is a good excuse not to do the ironing anymore?!
Lolasmum - can you request to have a membrane sweep?

hub2dee · 13/07/2005 16:55

We'll still be here for you, pinkmama, just bleary-eyed, LOL.

Good luck to all !

mrsdarcy · 13/07/2005 16:56

Lolasmum - I've just had a sweep and I'm 38 + 2, being unduced tomorrow. My cervix was quite far back and she managed to get it 1cm dilated so hopefully it will help the prostin to do its thing tomorrow.
Scruff - I think you probaby can request them although some midwives are keener on them than others. The midwife today didn't put it in my notes and said she was doing it as a favour! She warned me to be alert to it getting things going very quickly as I have GBS so need to get to the hospital for antibiotics.

LOVE the names Harriett! Twnaette is my special favourite!

x

Harriett · 13/07/2005 17:43

Good luck for tomorrow mrsd, for you and Twanette. Me and Sunshyne La Peaches will be thinking of you and if you can send some good labour vibes my way I'd be very grateful!

Lolasmum · 13/07/2005 20:26

Good luck for tomorrow MrsD.
I'm going to beg for a membrane sweep tomorrow. Sick of the period like cramps and desperatly want to move onto the next stage...

pinkmama · 13/07/2005 20:44

Ooh good luck MrsD for tomorrow!

Let us know if you get your sweep Lolasmums.

Thanks hub2dee. Hope things still going well and its living up to all your expectations!

Is anyone else on here going for a homebirth out of interest?

Eulalia · 13/07/2005 20:56

Good luck for tomorrow Mrs D

Lolasmum - hope the sweep does the trick.

pinkmama - I am sure I'll be around for awhile to keep you company - not due till the 30th and will probably be late again.

Sorry if I have missed anyone I need to go as dd is actually asking to go to bed

hoxtonchick · 14/07/2005 09:25

ooh, lots of luck to mrsd. pm, i am around, just rarely able to type, & have broken my laptop so have to beg dp's.....

pinkmama · 14/07/2005 10:28

Oooh, those bloody braxton hicks, got a little excited again last night that it was all happening, but it stopped after an hour.

HC, if I was still working think how much work I would get done without you to chat to on msn!

For those of you left standing, what are baby movements like now? Mine still moves around just enough to stop me going into complete panic, but they are very small movements now when they do happen. Cant remember what it was like with the others at this stage. I am just 38 weeks. There doesnt look a lot of room in there tbh!

Dalesgirl · 14/07/2005 11:08

I am sooo jealous of all you 'sprouting'mums...39 weeks tomorrow and not really much to report. Keep getting the runs...yukk, that makes me think the body is getting ready, or is it the heat? I like to think it is the former...strong BH for 2-3 weeks now, mostly at night. Baby VERY active, especially at night, annoying. Nesting like a crazy person, can regularly be found hoovering at 2am...DS1 not noticed, DH getting a bit p*** off when I switch the bedroom lamps on to get into bed (which takes about 10mins being as though the 4 pillows have to be in just the right formation!! Baby is well engaged, kicks me in the belly button when I try and compromise it's space by crossing my legs!! Went 40+3 with DS1, so even though I feel this one could be early I bet it won't be! My birthing ball keeps losing air...I wish it had handles then I could bounce from room to room and not have to waddle.
The heighbours keep commenting on how large my stomach is..."it's all baby" is their usual comment, at first I found this interest in me flattering...now it's boring and predictable... Although my immediate neighbours must be getting used to seeing me walking around the back garden in a T-Shirt and knickers...I just don't care anymore, it's the heat. Anyway, if large, heavily pregnant women float your boat then good luck to you I say....
On another track, what is the point of BabyHouse?
and Nigella, well what can I say, she has gone down in my estimations. I thought she was intelligent and interesting - her daytime show is challenging all my previously held beliefs!
Maternal movements all round to eveyone...who is left to produce?

Harriett · 14/07/2005 11:26

Hi.
well, it's due date today for a few of us! I thought things were happening last night- lots of discomfort and I was practically glued to the loo for 3 hours- it was the only comfortable position to be in! (is that too much info?) baby was practically doing somersaults, I hope she was getting excited and not upset. I ended up dozing in and out of sleep all night. I thought babies were supposed to slow things down a bit at the end- mine is quite the opposite!
I have been pregnant for 280 days... surely that's enough for any girl!

hub2dee · 14/07/2005 11:33

Yes, that Nigella show doesn't seem to suit her, does it ?

mrsd: I know you've been waiting for this day for longer than most. Best of luck to you and your babba. XXX

pinkmama · 14/07/2005 12:07

Dalesgirl - I was hoping someone might tell me the point of baby house. Very odd programme, and all the topics raised are rushed through so fast I dont really see the point in raising them. And as for Nigella, well she is my goddess having introduced me to my wonderful world of baking, but my god, I was very disappointed with her programme. Lol at you vaccuming in night. My nesting is so out of control I think I might have to move on to doing my friends houses if I go much longer!

Harriett, how you feeling today, any more discomfort?

Lolasmum · 14/07/2005 12:31

I watched the first edition of babyhouse and then decided life was too short to watch any more. Instead I've been restoring furniture, cleaning the house, mowing the lawn, basically - nesting. Hopefully having a sweep this afternoon. If no baby by Monday am going to definitely have one then. Whether or not I have 1 today depends on how much time the midwife has.

Harriet,my labour with dd started off with me on the toilet for several hours. I thought I had dysentry at first!

hoxtonchick · 14/07/2005 13:36

ha ha at all of you nesting - you're going to get over it soooooooo quickly .

went to register dd this morning. she was the smallest baby in the waiting room by miles! had a last minute change of plan, so she's florence sofia. taking her to ds's nursery open day this afternoon though we'll be firmly in the shade.

mirashark · 14/07/2005 15:03

Hi all,

Due today as well, nothing happening but still not feeling in a huge rush - I still have a lot to do, just trying to find some motivation in this heat! The most stupid things are bugging me, like I MUST fit the tv cable neatly to the skirting board, it's TOP PRIORITY. LOL. I'm sure the baby is really going to notice!
Baby is still very active, kicking and swivelling away. Been engaged for a month so nothing new there and absolutely no show of any kind yet so I think I'll be looking at the full 42 weeks somehow. Got some raspberry leaf tea on standby anyway and may have to draft DP into some DIY induction methods when I really start cracking up with impatience! Good luck to everyone...
