Oooh Congrats Harriet and dh on baby Dulcie... hope to catch up on the birth annoucements properly soon...

Still here... feel a bit after my earlier excitment. However feel better after a few hours sleep as I had spent all of yesterday evening rushing around tidying the house and getting things organised. Things seem to have slowed down but not stopped. I will phone the hospital in an hour or two. They'll probably want me to come in for a check up as its been 12 hours since I had the show and waters breaking. However not a lot of waters so don't know if that was the whole lot or not.

So... looks like things are happening but kind of slowly at the moment...

hoxtonchick · 28/07/2005 08:37

hooray for harriett, & fingers crossed it won't be long now eulalia.

dd slept most of the night in her basket last night for the first time, even went back in it after a feed. my mum will be very happy as she doesn't approve of this baby in bed with us hippy nonsense....

Bagpuss30 · 28/07/2005 10:35

Hehe, Hoxtonchick, my mum is the same! ds2 occasionally goes in his but not often.

Congratulations Hariett and dh

Good luck Eulalia (will send more labour vibes now ).

Mrsd poor you, glad the antib's are working. I had the same with ds1 and it was horrid but thankfully over quickly.

Merryberry, I am having similar probs re bf to you (just read your post on the mixed feeding thread). ds2 is feeding almost constantly at times and I have given 2 bottles of aptamil (4 oz) since he was 5 days old. On the upside he has put on loads of weight and is now 10 lb 7 oz . Neither of my other two put on as much weight as he has in such a short space of time so I must be doing something right .

Speaking of which I must go as ds2 is crying and probably wants more feeding .

oh congratualtions harriet dh and baby:-)
very pleased for your new arrival, tho sorry to hear about 'the ordeal'

bagpuss, phew, i was beginning to feel like the only person who ever mixed fed:-) and now there's you in real life doing it the same time as me. do you beat yourself up about it like u have done? my poor ds is grizzling unable to settle himself. he was too sleepy to feed thoroughly last night, has fed for 3 hours solidly this am and is now v v v v tired again! poor love. this is also my first day not properly dressed by noon and generally all over the place! oh well, we're usually way more settled, so this too will pass i assume, xfx

Lolasmum · 28/07/2005 12:14

Congratulations Harriett! What a whopper! Hope all is going well for you now after "The Ordeal".

Looking forward to news from you Eulalia.

Mirashark? Where are you? Hope you're snuggling up to your new baby as I type.

Bagpuss30 · 28/07/2005 13:30

Merryberry, no I do not beat myself up about it . I will admit that the first bottle was hard but then he slept for 4 hours straight and I got the first decent chunk of sleep that I had had for 5 whole days. Spoke to my midwive at day 9 and told her why and she admitted to doing the same herself! Actually made me feel a lot better.

Also, as my own mother pointed out, I do actually need a break sometimes, dh can do a feed now and again (something that we missed out on with dd being exclusively bf and not at all bonded to her daddy) and actually, I have discovered that I rather hate to bf in public so I have best of both worlds IYSWIM. Also with two other children I feel I need to be practical rather than worry about not exclusively bf.

I wouldn't worry yourself too much. Just try to enjoy the early days and go with the flow - he will settle down. I give ds2 1 bottle at our bed time and then bf the rest of the night and then another bottle to suit me during the day although sometmes I don't bother with that one if we are in the house. I bf on demand at all other times. HTH a bit .

Congratulations Harriett and DH! And good luck Eulalia!

merryberry · 28/07/2005 16:19

It does BP30, its a huge relief to find someone else who just sees it as sensible for them. thank you

pinkmama · 28/07/2005 17:35

Big Congratulations to Pamina on arrival of Victoria and to Harriett on Dulcie Grace. We seem to have a spurt of girls this week! Hope you all doing well.

Sorry to hear you suffering MrsD, hope it improves very quickly and you stop giving yourself a hard time about the bottles!

pinkmama · 28/07/2005 17:37

Sorry, realised its not MrsD with the bottles but poor you Merryberry. Think I am sleep deprived and loved up! Sorry to everyone who is suffering with painful boobies and to those of you giving yourself a hard time about bottles please dont, you are doing wonderful jobs!

Think I need a lie down

hub2dee · 28/07/2005 18:04

We're on bottles an awful lot of the time as little Camille finds it hard to latch and dw finds it hard to get the positioning sorted. I think it will all gell a bit more soon, but until then we've got no problem trying at the breast for a bit and then giving a bottle, or else just going straight to bottle (almost always EBM, formula for when we get caught short).

I've given her loads of feeds and can cover some of the 'night shift' as can (both) our MIL / FILs, which means we are perhaps less zombified than might normally be expected.

It sounds a bit funny maybe, but dd will be 4 weeks on her due date next Tuesday (delivered at 36+1) and I think the extra weight she's managed to pile on since birth (weighed 2.4 kilos on Monday, was 1.94 kilos at birth - ie. 1 lb gain), plus the extra weeks to develop jaw / tongue strength etc. means we're more likely to be able to breastfeed and maybe go a tad longer between feeds too.

Can't wait for the postnatal chit chats.

Hey - do they all make wacky noises, like squirrels chattering, and wave their arms around, sometimes quite frantically, whilst they sleep ? (I think prems might do this a bit more. Possibly we need to do more 'cocooning' in the crib IYSWIM, but I didn't want to obstruct air circulation yadda yadda)...

Whoever launches the postnatal thread, can you put a link to that thread with all our 'personal' info on ? so it is at the beginning in an anally organised kind of way ?)

merryberry · 28/07/2005 19:58

thanks guys. i have officially stopped beating myself up about it. too much fun watching vin widdle over the changing mat he's having a nekked kick about on

H"D the postnatal thread was started by AUssiesim:

July 05 Post Natal Thread here

I'm am scrupulously hovering over both of them so I don't miss anything.

Oops, Vin has really let loose on the mat. Gotta go.

Harriett · 30/07/2005 10:26

hello from me and my gorgeous Dulcie! thanks for all your messages which dh wrote out and brought into hospital to show me!
hope you are all well and congratulations to webwoman and Pamina also!
I was finally discharged last night and cried with happiness all the way home after what has been a really stressful time, not sure if I am up to talking about it all yet as I don't want to get everyone depressed but anyway, we have a gorgeous girl so it was all worth it. I just may need some therapy!!!! ...or some new shoes.
little Dulcie is tucked up in my arms as we type and is just so beautiful that I may just have to log off now and stare at her for a few more hours!! see you on the postnatal thread and I'm waiting for good mirashark news too, hope she is well.

mrsdarcy · 30/07/2005 12:23

Welcome home Harriett and Dulcie! What a pretty name. Harriet's middle name is Grace too!

I think some hospitals offer counselling if you have had a traumatic delivery, or at least the opportunity to go through your notes with someone. I'm so sorry you had such a horrible time.

Come and join us for nipple talk on the post natal thread!!

x

hub2dee · 30/07/2005 15:20

Congrats Harriett, welcome to the world, Dulcie.

Sounds like you had a hard time in hossie.

So.....mirashark ???? How are you doing ?

Big congratulations to Pamina, Webwoman and Harriet. Hope Mirashark is doing well. I have just printed off the last few days' posts so I can catch up during today.

We have a poor internet connection and no broadband - plus toddler and of course little baby (still no name!) so I am sorry to be more of a weekly member. However, I am thinking of you all and hope you are all surviving plus enjoying these first few weeks.

Twiga · 31/07/2005 17:00

Hi sorry to crash your thread: just back from the Matty and was in visiting Eulalia - didn't want to say until I'd checked in with her as didn't want to jump ahead with her news. She had a wee boy on Friday at 08.19 weighing 7lb 30z. He's called Paul and is just perfect - has a lovely head of dark hair. Eulalia looks really well - I'll let her fill in all the gory details but she ended up with a c-section due to placental abruption - is up and about no bother and feels fine.

Just got back from my hols yesterday and noticed your announcment Pamina - many congratulations - will nip over and post on your other thread when I'm on for longer later today/tomorow. Very happy for you!

mirashark · 01/08/2005 14:18

Hi Everyone,
or should I say 'anyone' as this thread is probably obsolete by now!
Just a quickie to let you know I'm still alive. Haven't had time to catch up on the thread yet so hope everyone is well and all is ok.
Thank God I now have a beautiful baby daughter (8lb 13oz) who I have named Roisin (pr. roh-sheen) - an Irish name meaning little rose. awww
We had a hard time getting her into the world - 20 hour labour ending in emergency CS so I'm not long out of hospital - but who cares, the result is all that matters. I will try and read back on your stories very soon and post a birth anouncement when I get a mo'.
Hope motherhood is treating you all as well as it is me despite the aches and pains etc, it's a joyful thing aint it?
love 2 all
XXX

All these long labours followed by crash sections... you ladies have been having a hard time.

CONGRATS mirashark !!!!!

Well done ! The last July baby if I'm not mistaken !

Very happy for you, looking forward to hearing all about the Little Rose.

Harriett · 01/08/2005 18:31

Comgratulations mirashark! So we were going through it at exactly the same time! and both had whoppers too! I am so pleased for you and looking forward to catching up when you can.
love to you and your little rose x

pinkmama · 01/08/2005 19:22

Congratulations to Mirashark and Eulalia, and welcome to Roisin and Paul.

Is that us all done now?

Eulalia · 02/08/2005 08:32

Hi everyone! Out of hospital yesterday lunchtime. Really glad to be home and all 5 of us to be together.

Thanks Twiga for posting the news. I will provide more details later. Paul is the most incredibly easy baby, he hardly cries and is breastfeeding really well. ds and dd seem to like him but dd mostly ignores him at the moment and ds keeps asking odd questions like who is the mummy and wanting to know why he came out "the wrong way".

I need to read down the thread to catch up on other births but there can't be many left now surely.

Back soon.

Lolasmum · 02/08/2005 11:01

Congrats to Eulalia and Mira. Going over to the postnatal thread now... If I'm right, all the July babies have been born?
