Oh and LadyEmma I was devastated when i found out I wouldn't be able to go to midwife-led unit to have DD but its not all bad. I managed to have a really positive experience in the main hospital delivery suite and have no worries about going there again this time (although would still jump at the chance to go to the midwife unit, have accepted its just not going to happen).

poguemahone · 03/12/2009 04:15

Congratulations Ginger!

Hope everyone's feeling better as we approach/pass the magic 12 week point.

At 14 weeks I'm now feeling much better physically but I cry about any old nonsense about once a day. Christmas songs are doing it for me these days . I used to be so hard..

upsydaisysexstylist I'm bf ds (20 months) too and I think my nipples are going to fall off. He's been feeding lots and lots due to a little bug and maybe the fact that my supply has dropped? I'm seriously thinking of weaning, even though I'd hoped he'd come to that conclusion himself.

Anyway I forgot to do this sooner, so I should add myself to the list:

Cadmum · 03/12/2009 11:04

Congratulations GibberingGinger! Are you over the shock yet?

Best wishes for your scan MrsAlwaysRight. I certainly know what you mean about the nerves.

My scan on Monday went well. There is only one with a heart rate of 180 and confirmed as about 12 weeks... For the moment the placenta is over my cervix which would account for some small bleeds and means that I need to take it easy for the next few weeks. (How this is supposed to be possible when I have four children, no husband and live thousands of miles from friends and family is slightly beyond me but I'll give it a shot.) More MN maybe?

I have another scan booked for the 23rd to see if the placenta is 'migrating' higher. I have already been briefed about the possibility of a C Section. I am hoping that it is only fear-mongering as I cannot imagine recovering from that with four children and a newborn to deal with. Must sent positives vibes to placenta and encourage it to move up~

herewegrow · 03/12/2009 11:07

Congratulations Gibbering !!!! Hope you have started to get used to the idea now

Ended up at the EPU yesterday as I had a bit of bleed on Tues. It's all stopped now thankfully. One bean in there (phew) and all looks well. So now just waiting for my official dating scan on 14th.

readysetgo · 03/12/2009 11:49

Good luck MrsAlwaysRight

gizmo · 03/12/2009 11:59

Blimey, Cadmum, I'm channelling shifty thoughts to your placenta as hard as I can. IIRC, most of them do move up a bit over the next 10 weeks - sounds like this one needs to.

Hope your scan is positive, Mrs AlwaysRight - I have my nuchal at 7pm this evening and I am crapping myself, which is not like me . Gotta hold onto that 1:100 probability.

goodname · 03/12/2009 14:05

Wow Cadmum that sounds like hard work and here's me wondering how I will cope with just the one. Feel a bit pathetic now . Hope everything works out ok for you.

Just to make Ginger feel better, a friend of mine told me about another friend of hers who is due in two weeks time. When she went for her scan they told her she was expecting triplets. She already has 3 children of 7, 4 and 2. She is still in shock now I think. Cannot even begin to imagine how mental it will be when they are born!

GinaFB · 03/12/2009 14:25

1st meeting went really well with the midwife yesterday readysetgo!

It took just over an hour, they asked about general health, allergies, medications, family history etc. Took some blood (owch... not good with needles!) and did a urine test. I was weighed and measured and was given my notes and a bundle of reading material and leaflets!!! If you like reading (as I do) you will feel very pleased!

We also got to hear the heart beat which was very emotional (tears all round..) they thought I was lucky as 11+1 was early to be able to hear it so clearly!

Am very excited about getting a scan date now, hopefully it will be for next week but apparently they have a backlog to get trough so it might be 13wks plus by the time I get there!

gizmo · 03/12/2009 15:05

Saucepanman, have you seen your GP yet?

FWIW I'm not getting much in the way of crampy pains this pregnancy - but then I never did. I am certainly getting more needling pain around the side and back of my pelvis, though so I think the ligaments there are deciding to let go. Joy.

madamefreckle · 03/12/2009 15:07

Hey GibberingGinger! Lucky you!

Just sticking a 'scanned' by my name.

Feeling super rough at the mo. Have been given antibiotics for revolting cough thing. Sure it's ok for minifreckle but still can't help worrying.

Saucepanman · 03/12/2009 15:21

Hello everyone, GP called me, not my GP but one I have never heard of. Sounded distinctly uninterested. Said "but if the scan shows nothing, what do you want us to do about the pains? Won't you be having the scan simply for reassurance?" Had already recounted my (colourful!) history, but at this point said "well with respect, reassurance is exactly what I am looking for." Am attending gynae assessment unit tomorrow pm, presumably for a scan. Taking dd with me- really hope it is nothing. I am actually quite hard to pain; bloods don't bother me one bit, and the things I have had done over the course of 3 pregnancies and births- well I now laugh in the face of pain! So I know I am not being soft. The pains are not constant but ongoing for 3 days now. Grrrr.

Cadmum · 03/12/2009 15:59

Saucepanman I am so sorry that you are having to go through this. I am also unaware of your history but I just find it inexcusable. What harm could be done by offering you some reassurance? Surely a calm mother has a better chance of delivering a healthy, term baby...

I opted to rent a doppler whilst expecting dd2 because I was filled with paranoid thoughts and could not deal with the possibility of finding out at a scan that she no longer had a heartbeat. (This had happened to me three times before but nobody seemed to understand how I felt.) Might this be an option for you?

Interestingly, I have a more relaxed view with this pg (so far).

Anecdotally, I also happen to be really crampy and generally uncomfortable with this pregnancy despite still fitting in my normal clothes. I don't think that it is all down to stretching but maybe 8 pregnancies is nearing my personal limit?

gizmo · 03/12/2009 16:13

It's something that isn't generally talked about, is it Cadmum? The cumulative effects of a number of pregnancies on a body? For example, I'd like to know if can expect my obstetric history (5 pregnancies - 2 mcs, 2 children and this one) to have a similar impact as say 3 regular pregnancies close together.

I guess it's something that's impossible to generalise about, though...

gizmo · 03/12/2009 16:14

And Saucepanman, I'm so sorry that you are getting the run around from your health care providers. I really can't understand what their problem is, tbh.

Cadmum · 03/12/2009 16:31

gismo The consultant that I spoke with on Monday told me that the reason he is worried about my placenta being so low is because it might be difficult to locate healthy tissue in my uterus. There will be scar tissue from the 7 placentas that have already been in there so he seemed convinced that it does have an impact. (My missed miscarriages have been on the latish side though... at 18, 12 and 16 weeks with twins so this might be a consideration.)

I am currently living in Switzerland where the ante-natal care will be completely different from what I received in Canada, the UK or the USA because the consultant has an Ultrasound Scanner right in his office and could potentially have a peek every 3-4 weeks. That will be a strange but welcome experience. I had one scan at 17 weeks with ds1 until I had pre-eclampsia at 34 weeks at which point they were done weekly. With dd1 my first scan was at 39 weeks to make sure that the placenta was functioning well enough to let me go to term. Oh to go back to those care-free-pre-miscarriage days...

fillybuster · 03/12/2009 16:46

Gosh, I go offline for 24 hours and tons of stuff happens

So, I had a mini-panic before my scan today that I might be having 'the twins' but of course that was because I hadn't seen GGs update......well done Gibbering and thanks for taking one for the team

So, I had my scan today...it took over an hour because flump was chilling out in just the wrong position to get an image of the heart. I didn't mind spending that long looking at my lovely little foetus but I wish they had been more reassuring about what it was that was taking so long...they kept making worried noises and eventually sent me off to eat chocolate and have a walk around . Anyway, I'm not complaining, because everything is fine and I've got some lovely pictures to show various family members.

Actually, the timing is especially good as (once i've told my SIL, who has been ttc for 4 years...panic...eek...this is not going to go well.....) I'm taking my dcs up to manchester this weekend to visit my (very) terminally ill grandmother & my grandpa and I'm so pleased she's going to know that dggc #3 is on its way before she goes. But I know I'm going to be an emotional wreck by the time we get home on Sunday evening...

Saucepan - I burst into tears on Monday night because there were carol singers at the train station raising funds for the local hospice....I thought "what good people to stand out here in the cold and rain" and just flooded......I am so on a knife edge on the tears front at the moment.... And yes, my cramps are way worse this time than the previous 2...but if you're worried, push for the scan.

Gizmo - hope the scan goes well tonight

Cadmum - am sending 'move your arse' vibes to your placenta but am a bit concerned that may confuse it!!

Sorry for any x posting...I started typing this at 2pm but work got in the way...

Hey everyone, feel like I might have a urine infection starting (i get these commonly enough when not pregnant so its too be expected). Worried I will have to take antibiotics. Does anyone actually know how they could affect the baby? Prob being silly but it freaks me out a bit even tho they claim its safe. Going to go home and take lots of cranberry pills and maybe it will go away on its own. [should have a face for worried]

Hey goodname I was just given cefalexin for a urine infection which my gp said were fine with regards to the bump also SIL suggested buying Robinsons diluting juice with barley water and I must say it has been helping loads, she says this is a good drink to keep on as it helps prevents urine infections (she was told this by a hospital consultant so it must be true lol) hope it clears soon for you x

Oh Cadman, what a saga: I am sorry about your m/cs. It really does take the shine out of subsequent pregnancies doesn't it?

I hadn't really thought about the scar tissue thing: when you consider the inside of the uterus is only fist sized pre-pregnancy it's amazing that a placenta finds anywhere to attach after the first couple of children, frankly.

1 hour and 35 minutes to scan. Shit

Lovely to hear about your scan, Filly. It sounds like you're going to need some extra tissues for christmas though. I do hope your grandma and grandad take some comfort from your photos: such a hard time for everyone.
