Hello everyone! Welcome to the second thread! Hope you are happy enough that I've gone ahead with this title! If not, I won't be mortally offended if you ditch it and start again!

Here is the list - hope it is more or less up-to-date. Apologies if you're missing, please add yourself on. Pogue - we don't have you on here. Scared - are you still around? Perhaps you've moved to the May thread. Let us know how you're doing.

Oh my goodness GibberingGinger, congratulations! I can imagine you are in shock !! Do you have a history of twins in your family at all?
This could mean it's not me with the twins

Woofie · 01/12/2009 20:16

awesome news ginger, congratulations!! After all, how hard can it be...?!!

GibberingGinger · 01/12/2009 20:38

I was obsessed about having twins about a month back. I was wittering away on here about it once. I was the one with the great grandmother who had nine pregnancies but twelve children. twins, single, twins all under 4 initially. However in the last couple of weeks I had got over it, thinking the odds are against it, and I would be bigger and would be able to feel the top of my womb if I was carrying twins. But no. The scan is undeniable.

Have got a load of info from the hospital, mostly the usual emma's diary and ready steady baby. Will sift through later. Have got appointment for nuchal fold scan next thursday.

Hope everyone else is getting on fine and the nausea is abating, mine is still rampant, but I've yet to reach the magic 12 week mark. And you ladies still waiting for your scans - don't think this lets you off the hook, there is room for more than one set of multiples on this thread!

LittleRobbo · 01/12/2009 20:40

Wow ginger that is totally fantastic news,i bet you are still in shock! Many congratulations to you and yours

GibberingGinger · 01/12/2009 20:48

And thank you everyone for all your lovely congratulations. You are kind.

I've updated the list (I hope its right)

minimoonumbertwo- please check but i believe it is the dark hair dyes that have the evil compounds in, well thats my excuse for the grey bits. Tried blonde once could have auditioned for bad girls. tip if you have redlights in your hair bleach will make it go a fetching brass colour.

Gibbering ginger congratulations, hope the shock wears off soon

can't sleep won't sleep good to know I'm not the only one bf its getting less painful now ( near magic 12 weeks) and hope the appointment wasn't too long

Wow, congratulations GibberingGinger, hope you and your family are recovering from the shock! DSIL had twins in september and they are so lovely. Think running her house is a bit like a military operation these days though, as she now has 5 kids!

Hope your appointment wasn't a complete waste of time CantSleep and that your gallstone pain is improving.

Well I had a phone call from my GP yesterday to say my blood tests are back and my liver function is off. No big surprise to me as I have been feeling just like last time. A bit disapointing to have it confirmed, but also reassuring to know its not all in my head. Blood results nowhere near as bad as they got last pregnancy, but its very early days as didn't have any symptoms of OC until about 28 weeks last time. Am waiting to hear what they want to do with me next but am guessing I will be off to the hospital for more tests in the next few days. I had weekly monitoring at the hospital last pregnancy which I quite enjoyed as i got an afternoon off work to lie on a bed and listen to the baby. Don't think it will be quite as much fun this time around though if I end up having to take DD with me!

People putting up christmas decorations - anyone got any tips on how to stop DD trashing the christmas tree? She's just started pulling herself up and am worried about putting up the tree incase she decides to pull it on top of herself!

Ladyemmalou83 · 02/12/2009 11:13

Morning all. Just had my second MW appointment and have been told im going under consultant care, which means I cant go to the local midwife led unit, gutted!

Congrats Ginger!!!! Bet that was truly amazing seeing that on the scan!

Saucepanman · 02/12/2009 11:16

readysetgo yes my name is from the book- I used to be thritbies but changed last year whilst reading the book to my dc. I dressed ds as him for book day too!

Well I have just for no reason burst into tears. Am in house on my own so just had a forlorn sob, but had to stop when it made me snotty thus retchy. Am a veritable barrel of laughs today

GinaFB · 02/12/2009 12:44

Congratulations GibberingGinger!! Thats amazing news!

I am off for my first appt with the Midwife today 1.5 hrs and counting!! No idea what to expect (as this is DC #1!) but very excited never the less!!

gizmo · 02/12/2009 13:11

GibberingGinger!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations. I thought this link might be soothing, although be warned you could drown in a flood of hormones.

Ach, Saucepanman, ain't early pregnancy wunnerful? I tend to do the 'crying for no reason' thing once the baby arrives, thus guaranteeing hours of fun for all the family, as baby howls, I howl back, and neglected siblings eat each other in the corner. Damn, but I'm looking forward to June next year

goodname · 02/12/2009 14:07

Huge congratulations GibberingGinger. I am so jealous, would have loved to have twins. So exciting . Hope the shock is wearing off.

stac14 hope your scan has been great. I was exactly the same before mine, really excited but petrified at the same time.

LadyEm So sorry you cant go to midwife led unit. Why is that? (if that's not too nosy ). If they make that decision is there nothing you can do about it? I am slightly concerned because when I told the midwife I had had chemo 5 years ago she said I would need to see the consultant next time but hopefully I would still be low risk. Dont really see how an illness 5 years ago is going to affect me but there you go.

Thinking of joining a gym so I can go swimming as its too cold for walking exercise which is about all else I seem to be allowed to do (no football or skiing for me just now ). There is one quite nearby with an ozone pool instead of normal chlorine so fancy that but don't know if I could be bothered driving there twice a week. Local council pool is sadly shut for repairs for foreseeable future.

minimoonumbertwo · 02/12/2009 14:26

Gibbering!!!!!!!!!!! That's so exciting!!!! Gosh i hope the shock has worn off - just imagine how many diamonds you'll get for having twins - go girl!!! are you going to find out what sex they are???

saucepanman know exactly how you feel, i actually love a good weep though, releases all those toxic hormones - the face doesn't look too good afterwards though.

Feeling rough today after xmas party last night & think i ate some dodgy smoked salmon (should have known better than to eat it in the first place!) luckily am in good company with all the horridly hungover peeps at work so hoping to slink off early...

oooh goodname swimming is such lovely exercise when your preggers - do go if you can, i definitely would if it wasn't for ds. i think it really helps with the pregnancy/birth too and of course then you can justify more cake!

RnB · 02/12/2009 15:12

GIBBERING GINGER!!!!!!!!!!!!! Congratulations!!!! Love the #2+3 on the list!! How wonderful for you !!! xxx

RnB · 02/12/2009 15:13

Hope all is OK Greensnail x

Saucepanman · 02/12/2009 15:35

Me again, your ray of sunshine

Having a bit of a dilemma, would welcome opinions....

Had my dating scan at 10 weeks, and realised my anomaly scan is not until 21 weeks. Because of my history I have always had more scans than this. My mum works at the hospital so I asked her advice and she said to ring the consultant's secretary and try and get another. I did this Monday and she rang me back today. In the meantime I have been having a lot of cramping, and don't remember it being this bad the last 3 times. I am wondering if it could be like after pains which get worse in successive pregnancies? I'm sure it's nothing, but it is niggling me. Anyway consultant said no to another scan- I had cramping before I rang but forgot to mention it [nobhead]. So I rang my bereavement support midwife who is on the case for me. I also have an appt with GP tomorrow to refer me to gynae assessment unit. Consultant said it is not necessary- I would love to see what kind of a history you have to have for it to be necessary!

So have spent most of day in tears

Anyway, those who have had more than one pregnancy, have you found the crampy type pains have got worse each time? TIA

stac14 · 02/12/2009 16:20

Hi saucepan not sure if this is the same, but I have cramping pains all through this pregnancy (2nd child) Gp spotted a urine infection but I was also told that it is very natural to get cramping (some women are just more aware of it) but if your worried go for a 2nd opinion. I got a scan today and have to be rescanned in 4 weeks time so they can determine my due date.

Congrats ginger on the twins, has it sunk in yet? Twins are lovely, I was worried I would have them this time as my dad is an identical twin but I defo only have one lol

Had scan today, thankfully everything is ok and baby is were its supposed to be, but we are only 7 wks+ so got my dates mixed up, but the cons said that was normal due to the polycystic ovaries. I can't tell you how relieved I am about this.

How is everyone else today? Is the sickness easing off for any of you? Hope you dont mind me hanging around, as i think my due date may be july instead but its nice to hear all your experiences xx

GibberingGinger · 02/12/2009 16:40

Oh saucepanman, sorry to hear you are so low. For what its worth I am finding the cramps worse this time round, maybe its the muscles objecting to being stretched yet again.

I don't know your history, but I suspect the consultant is just working on the presumption that everything was ok at the 12week scan - which is great - and the chance of miscarriage is much less (but not non existant) so there is no medical benefit/requirement for extra scans. Not to say that it wouldn't be reassuring for you. It sounds like you are getting quite a lot of support from other places and I'm sure if they were worried then they would refer you for another scan.

I hope this helps, and you feel a bit happier tomorrow. Oh, and there is nothing wrong in spending the day in tears. I'm a really weepy one at the moment. Though I think its still shock!

readysetgo · 02/12/2009 17:07

Hi Gina, let me know how today goes! I've got my first appt next Tuesday and the guy that I booked the appt with just told me to expect being weighed and have blood taken. Do they give you loads of exciting magazines?? I'm obsessed with all the leaflets etc! Haha.

imkeepingmum · 02/12/2009 18:21

Readysetgo - LOTS of leaflets, vouchers for freebies etc! MW took blood, tested urine, height, weight, medical history, also carbon monoxide test (like a breathaliser) which I had no idea they would do. MW explained all the tests and the scans and what each of them were looking for. Also felt my bump and listened for heartbeat. I think that's it.

upsydaisysexstylist · 02/12/2009 18:54

saucepan mamma, hope your feeling less worried. My breavement support midwife runs a clinic every friday with an old scanner and cups of tea. is there anything like that in your area I know she sees people from surrounding areas if your anywhere near bradford. It's good to speak to other anxious mums, I'll get no extra scans till 30 wks because of hospital policy, but it was the same last time so her clinic really helps.

readysetgo · 02/12/2009 18:58

Ooo goody, thanks imkeepingmum bit worried about the weight part, I feel like a heffalump this week. Doesn't help that I'm so flippin HUNGRY!

greensnail · 02/12/2009 19:59

Saucepanman sorry you're feeling so worried. Its good your bereavement support midwife is on the case for you, hopefully she'll manage to get you another scan. Are you getting any other monitoring? I had regular CTG's and Dopplers with DD which were lovely and reassuring, although obviously your history is very different to mine and I don't know if this would help in your case.
If it helps, I'm getting more cramping this time than I remember when pg with DD.

Am trying not to think what my afterpains will be like this time, had horrific pains after DD and she was my first.

Carbon monoxide test sounds interesting. We don't have that here. Wonder why they do that? Do you think they're trying to catch out secret smokers?

I'm doing ok RnB thanks for asking, just bloody itchy. GP called again today and has faxed my latest details through to the hospital so am just waiting to hear from them. Glad I had scan last week so know all is well with baby at the moment. Feel a bit nervous about having OC formally diagnosed at this point anyway as it seems a bit scarily early in the pregnancy to be starting on meds and am not sure if they'd want to do this straight away. So happy in ignorance at the moment. On top of that I have a nasty cold and horrible mouth ulcers so generally feeling sorry for myself.
