Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
readysetgo · 04/12/2009 18:56

Filly Have just seen your post. It's awful isn't it - I'm worried about spending Christmas day with them in case alcohol causes emotional chats. I'm normally very open but I feel so guilty

I shouldn't feel guilty should I?

Cadmum · 04/12/2009 19:23

Yeah saucepanman! I am glad that they gave you a scan and that it all went well.

(I understood that only your first was stillborn but the other births were on the seriously traumatic end so you have my sympathy for those as well.) I was already starting to worry about the possibility of a C-Section with this one and that was before I had heard your story. I am even more shocked that some women actually choose to have this major abdominal surgery in order to keep their 'bits' intact. Praying that this placenta moves upward pronto!

Filly Thanks for the supermum vote of confidence. I am not sure that the title is deserved in my case. I certainly adore our brood but some days I am in over my head! My eldest will be 13 when this one arrives and dd1 will be 11. She is really looking forward to babysitting her own sibling. YEAH!

Have I mentioned that we are supposed to move to Cambodia in January?

greensnail · 04/12/2009 19:44

saucepanman glad scan was all ok. I understood that only your DS1 was stillborn too. Do you feel reassured by the scan? Were they helpful at the clinic?

Cadmum Cambodia?? Sounds like fun. You really do have your hands full at the moment.

RnB · 04/12/2009 19:58

Sorry saucepanman, honestly my pg brain is all over the place. I got all muddled up.

X

Woofie · 04/12/2009 20:22

Saucepanman and upsydaisy - so very sorry to hear about what you've been through. I actually can't imagine anything harder. Full of admiration for your strength in going for subsequent pregnancies.

cadmum - cambodia?? With 5 kids?? I sometimes feel that my life is a little dull...

Well tomorrow is the day for my scan - finally - and I can't wait. I think I've felt the first flutterings over the last couple of days Talking of everything happening at the same time, we've just sold our house and need to find somewhere to live pronto; I've just offically registered for my PhD at work; my car was broken into last week and is a write off, so need to find a new one. New house, new car, new study, new baby - there's nothing like taking life one step at a time

Hope you all have very happy weekends.

GibberingGinger · 04/12/2009 20:40

Gosh saucepanman, you have had a rough time. I hope this pregnancy is a straightforward easy trip for you. You deserve it.

Still barfing here. In fact I think its getting worse. Though I may be giving in to it more now, before I was just telling myself to get a grip, it was just morning sickness, and to get on with it. However I now kind of think, I'm carrying twins no wonder I feel bad. However this probably just indulges me and lets me wallow in misery. I'm actually better if I motivate myself up and out, distracts me from the nausea.

Good luck with the scan tomorrow Woofie. It seems like we've had loads of scans already, but looking at the list there is plenty still to go.

CantSleepWontSleep · 04/12/2009 20:59

Oh saucepan, thank you for sharing what a difficult time you've been through, and very sorry for the loss of your ds1. Here's to this pregnancy and birth being your most straightforward yet, by a long way hopefully.

Very sorry to hear of your loss too upsydaisy.

Cambodia cadmum ?! Is that unavoidable, or are you actually ok with it? Do they have good medical care there? I presume that private cover is given as part of your dh's package.

gizmo - lol at your metre long baby! Makes you wonder about the accuracy of these scans, which can ultimately determine when we are induced .

Gibbering - pull yourself together woman .

Nothing much to report here - still knackered.

dinosaurinmybelly · 04/12/2009 21:10

Saucepanman, thank you so much for sharing your story with us. I'm so sorry you've been through so much, and really hope you get the support you need through this pregnancy. IT sounds like you had a scan today - look forward to hearing about it later.

Good for you mampam, may this be the first in a run of illicit encounters throughout the rampant 2nd trimester

Welome Nizzy, and Cadmum - Cambodia? !!!! You really are a supermum. I've had lots of " Wow you're brave" or "rather you than me" comments since we started telling people we were expecting our 3rd last week. I just don't understand it - I'm so utterly grateful for all the little ones I'm lucky enough to have but I suppose everyone is different. You give me hope that you can have 5 children, and still travel and do wonderful things..

GibberingGinger · 04/12/2009 21:19

Upsydaisy, sorry I completely missed your post. Really upsetting to hear about your dd. Hope this pregnancy is a nice easy one for you.

CantSleep, cheers for the verbal kick up the ass - however its not going to work tonight . It's Friday night and I'm out of energy, so I'm off to stuff my face with stodge (latest is toasted scones with HUGE amounts of butter) and then crawl off to bed

Mampam, my husband was making hopeful nudges this morning but was elbowed away in no uncertain terms. I'll just barf on him if he tries again!

PorridgeBrain · 05/12/2009 07:28

Morning all

I had my scan yesterday and all was well - one baby (phew!) very much alive and kicking!

They wouldn't tell us the nuchal results but said it looked fine which is a big relief after the 1:13 result we got last time and the weeks of worry and testing that followed. Just waiting for the blood test results now before we go public!

EDD has been brought forward by 6 days so now due on the 7th

Hope everyone is well and sickness is subsiding

Golly! So much water seems to have passed under the bridge since i last posted. Hard to keep up! I still feel pretty crappy with chest/sinus infection but getting better. Saucepanman - your story - and others, does put things into perspective for me. You really deserve to have an easier time with this one. I think you must have the most amazing fighting spirit. I have had the odd panic moment about labour with flash-backs to last time, but in the big scheme of things it was pretty straight-forward, although a long 33 hours. Hearing that other people have come through such hard times is such a testament to the strength of women's bodies and minds and it gives me greater determination just to stay positive and tap into that strength that we all have.

Anyway, trying to do Christmas shopping online and I'm so utterly crap at it it's untrue.

OP posts:
MrsC09 · 05/12/2009 19:02

Wow, I can't believe how much has happened since i was last on here!

Ginger - congratulations on the twins! I'm secretly a little bit jealous

Saucepanman & upsydaisy - so sorry to hear your stories. It's so easy to think that its all just plain sailing after you reach the 12 week mark but i guess that's so wrong....

Cadmum - enjoy your move to Cambodia! How exciting! My parents lived in the middle east when i was born & my mum had to drive 2 hours just to buy fresh milk! I guess morning sickness put her off the thought of drinking camels milk

I hope everyone is feeling well! My evening sickness is gone now that I'm nearing 14 weeks but still very tired all the time. Need at least 9 hours sleep a night which is a little bit difficult to squeeze in during the festive season! Well got a holiday in 2 weeks so will hopefully catch up then.

A question to those of you who already had children - it seems that ever since i announced my pregnancy everyone who knows anyone with children seems to be singing the praises of NCT classes. Has anyone attended one of these & are they as amazing as everyone seems to claim?

X factor soon!!!

greensnail · 06/12/2009 06:20

MrsC09, I didn't attend NCT classes but wish that I had done. Not for the classes but for the social reasons. People who had attended NCT classes seemed to have a ready-made network of friends with babies the same age which can be really useful when you're getting to grips with parenthood.
I joined lots of baby groups when DD was tiny and used to really enjoy our local NCT bumps and babes, they were a really nice group of mums and it was lovely to get together and share experiences and ideas.

Woofie · 06/12/2009 09:50

Morning all,
Scan fine yesterday - just the one, who was flipping around happily and nuchal results fine. Date changed to 11th.

MrsC09 - I did NCT classes when pg with ds and they were really useful. As greensnail says, it's really more for the social aspect than for the information (which is a bit too labour-centric in my opinion - what you do when you get home, left to your own devices with a baby could do with a bit more attention!) But I'm still in touch with some of the other mums from my class 4 years on, and it was invaluable having that support network in the early days. I'd say go for it.

Wolfie Great news about the scan. When I first looked at your update I read it as #33 which made me giggle since I am feeling like #5 is OTT at the moment. Thanks for the laugh!

No formal NCT classes for me either with our UK born LO but I thoroughly enjoyed the bumps and babes once I found it. I was fortunate enough to become an honourary member as I was often invited to the meet-ups held weekly at various houses.

Can this nausea end now? I am beyond 12 weeks and my parent arrive on Friday. I must get some housework done and the car needs a thorough clear out and I just cannot manage in this state. ARGH!

Hope you are all starting to feel better.

CantSleepWontSleep · 06/12/2009 20:13

I did both NCT and NHS ante-natal classes, and NHS post-natal ones when I had dd. I am still in touch with 3 others from the NCT ones, but no-one from the NHS ones (unless I have also known them in another context since). My closest friends however, were on my post-natal course, so definitely definitely do that if you get offered one.
Most NCT teachers will tailor their course to what the people attending are interested in, so if you do do them then give that some thought before your first class. I agree that more on post-birth and a bit less on labour would be welcome, but I actually don't think that most of the post-birth stuff would sink in or make sense until you have your own little monkey.

Woofie · 06/12/2009 22:39

Fair point, well made cadmum - I'd have had to have knocked out a set of twins every year since I was 16 .

Ah Wolfe I preferred it as #33... We could say that a few of them are triplets to give you some recovery time and less of an early start if it would make you feel better?

Too nauseated to sleep but too tired to accomplish anything of value so I am going to try to head back to bed.

MillyMollyMoo · 07/12/2009 09:13

Whoops - my due date is the 23rd June - am always early so may que jump though

greensnail · 07/12/2009 09:18

On the subject of NCT classes, has anyone done a refresher course for 2nd time mums before? Are they any good? I was thinking it might be a nice idea to help me focus on this pregnancy (still keep forgetting I'm pg ) and to make some new friends expecting babies around the same time.

Cadmum · 07/12/2009 10:29

feeling that greesnail can forget that she is pg. I am still too sick an tired to forget...

Saucepanman · 07/12/2009 11:03

Morning ladies, well wasn't I Mrs Smug from Smugsville this am, thinking I could come on and tell you I haven't been sick since Fri- "I think I have stopped!" I was thinking to myself, then cleaned my teeth and barf-o-rama! Grrrrrrrrr!

Saucepanman · 07/12/2009 11:06

upsydaisy I am so sorry you have been through a stillbirth too, lots of hugs to you, and to anyone else having a hard time for whatever reason xxxx

gizmo · 07/12/2009 14:18

Cleaning your teeth??? That's a bit grim, SPM. Are you getting your appetite back now? I'm so pleased to hear your scan is clear - hopefully it won't be long before we all start getting some movement so we can stop relying on scans to reassure us.

Woofie, I know what you mean about everything starting at once. This will be my first pregnancy where I have not had to spend a few days cleaning bricks: I have a bad habit of planning major house renovations to co-incide with maternity leave. Having said that we did find ourselves looking at our attic the other day and considering whether another bedroom would come in useful, now we've filled all the others with children .

Porridgebrain, I was a bit puzzled about your nuchal: why on earth wouldn't they give you a figure? We all know it's only part of the whole calculation of risk, but it's an important part and personally I would find it irritating if someone didn't give me the actual figures from the scan.
