And back to the weight issues - ok, bollocks to it. Plus, i weighed myself naked yesterday (finally warm enough in house to do it) and i'm not 14 stone 7, so bah humbug to the hospital scales. Am only 14.3, so feeling better and back to stuffing face with junk. Though I'm sure Lindt 70% cocoa chocolate counts as fruit.

Made a comment on another thread about telling inlaws no-one was coming to stay within 2 weeks of birth, then my mum and dad first. Another MNer had a go at me, so am feeling pants. Said I was mean, and that friends would see baby before family. SO i'd like to say 1) we don't have any friends nearby, moved recently for work purposes [why else am I on mumsnet everyday?!] and 2) both families live hundreds of miles away and can't both come at once. Can't I have my mum here first? Is that not vaguely normal? I understand why my critic said what she did, I suppose in typing it does look kind of mean. but i didn't mean it like that...Promise

watercress · 17/11/2009 12:23

Don't worry about what another NMer said on another thread Woowa (or try not to). I'm sure lots of people supported your point of view, so try and hold onto that rather than the one person who disagreed with you. (And I completely get your point, by the way. Having your own mum around is generalyl more relaxing than having someone else's mum around, as you can just be you. And who is to say that you can't change your mind about the two week babymoon?!)

Welcome to the newbies. Very friendly thread, this one (apart from the odd whinge - feeling very guilty about my selfish post yesterday) so you won't get lampooned for anything (ducks and prepares for lampooning, then realises she doesn't know what it means, so wanders off to find dictionary).
Sounds like we're all trying to chill with the weight thing. And quite right too!

Oh, and I'll add my pennyworth to a couple of questions people asked: I had newborn clothes for DD and despite her being 7lb10oz had to get some tiny baby babygrows as they were literally falling off. But supermarkets sell them quite cheaply, so I'd stick to newborn (unless you have a family history of big babies!) and just get extras if you need them (you can always ask people who are coming to see you and the baby).

And I was never a big one for barrier creams under nappies. I used a smear of petroleum jelly (cheapo vaseline) at each change and DD never ever had nappy rash (I had one of those tiny tins of vaseline for lips in my change bag). To illustrate how little I used, I've still got the same tub of vaseline for this DD!

FluffyCoo · 17/11/2009 13:26

I saw that post Woowa, personally I went all Jerry Springer audience - i.e " you go girlfriend!" Can't believe someone had a pop at you for it! I would love to ban everyone for the first two weeks and just create a nice little bubble for me, baby and DH until he has to go back to work... sadly i don't think this will happen, MIL is wanting to get on the first flight down from Scotland!! Love her but... sigh...! [resigned emoticon].

Still not weighing, but has anyone experienced any really sudden growth?! My bump is suddenly taking over the world - my bellybutton has literally disappeared in the last 24 hours!! It's freaking me out!!

Welcome to all newbies!

woowa · 17/11/2009 13:47

belly button??? Mine hasn't disappeared, but it looks like someone else's - nothing like my belly button used to - i would guess it's half way to popping out as it's gone really shallow, having been likea bottomless pit before!

Thanks for the support fluffycoo and watercress. REALLY appreciate the solidarity.

baby is having a quiet day today...MUSTN'T PANIC.......

I know it's fine!

mamaloco · 17/11/2009 14:16

Woowa I can't believe somebody criticised you for that... Of course you want your mum there and everybody has to take turn. I was in similar situation with DD now have not so much of a problem as I moved much further away!! Also, when my mum came she helped (hoovering, cooking shoping... without asking) just got on with it, MIL barely did her bed, and kept asking when and what was food, then decided that it wasn't good for her diet so went on cooking something else for herself. DH had to remind her to do the dishes and clean afer herself. I was very sick for the first 3 weeks though so may be not very objective. MIL is very nice with me just not very practical and not hands on.
Fluffycoo can't you tell them that you are scared of swine flu and anybody coming by plane or train to visit your newborn should endure a 7 days quarantine. . (only half joking, considering it myself )

I had a row with my bank today because they kept telling me that Lloyds TSB is not a proper name and they couldn't do the transfer I requested....GRRRRR! Now I am ashamed , as I should have keep my calm, and give them for the tenth time all the details, b$*& hormones. I even had a cry after I hang up telling them "but I can't invent another name!" (silly me)
Feeling tired again, probably due to anemia, even if the vitamin pills seemed to work for a few days? Belly button suddenly deciced to grow outward so bump must have been pushing hard too.

OP posts:
2Happy · 17/11/2009 14:17

flyingcloud - they think you're going to be on a strict diet afterwards?? Er, yes, a strict diet of ibuprofen and chocolate - we're all going to be totally sleep deprived, totally hormonal, totally pigging out on the lovely foods we've been denied (lucky you in France with all that yummy cheese!), and totally not dieting for a few months at least!!!

woowa - I was totally funny with my ILs after ds1 was born. Always had a slightly strained relationship with mil (she refused to contribute to our wedding, but the day before gave dh a cheque for a third of the cost and told him to spend it on something that would last... ) which has mellowed considerably in recent years (we're off to Center Parcs for 5 days with mil and fil next week!!! And it was my suggestion!!!!!) when ds1 was born I couldn't stand her having anything whatsoever to do with ds1. But even if your relationship is good with your ILs I think it's only natural to feel closer to your own parents when you become a parent yourself. Good on you for stipulating no-one for a fortnight! Hope it works.

clappedout - I had the SF jab last weds. Wasn't convinced about it, and felt kind of guilty afterwards, but have come into contact with people hacking away without covering their mouths and telling me how fluey they feel this week so probably relieved. My arm was sore for a couple of days, and it's still a bit uncomfortable if I lie on it. I felt crap the next day too, but that may just have been because I was having a generally shite day...

Welcome to the new people

Can't wait to stop work - but not until 20th January. Confessed to them this morning that I was feeling a little emotional these days and promptly welled up uncontrollably . Hopeless.

mawbroon · 17/11/2009 14:49

Hi everyone. Sorry, too much for me to get my head round on this thread.

We are now entering our 7th week of somebody being ill in our house. DS just got over his vomitting thing (although he was still pale and tired) when DH got a fever. It started last Wednesday and his temperature is still up today, a week later. DS now has a nasty cough, as do I. Last night, I woke at 2am with a dodgy stomach. I went for a pee and thought I was going to be sick. Next thing was I woke up on the bathroom floor in a pool of sick with DH saying WTF is going on. I must have passed out, but I think only for a few seconds.

Needless to say I am feeling rough as anything today, but thankfully haven't been sick since 2am. I am none the wiser as to whether it's a stomach bug, food poisoning, reaction to swine flu vaccine, or something else.

Anyway, the baby seems to be fine and is kicking away quite the thing, and ds is at his granny's so I can recover a bit.

Send me some good recovery vibes please. I am beginning to think we will never all be well at the same time!!!

PinguCarrier · 17/11/2009 14:59

Hello all and welcome newbies

Here's to "bollocks" the the weight thing and Lindt being one of our 5 a day!

Am living by the adage that a little of what you fancy does you good, though not sure my dh would agree after I woke him at 5am demanding sex! Sorry if TMI but really, what is it with the dodgy sex dreams....please tell me I'm not alone???!!!

fluffycoo I too am experiencing massive growth spurt....have been fairly static for weeks and now suddenly the bump is roving forwards like there's no tomorrow

Loads of movement as well, which is nice, apart from the odd kick to the bladder which is seriously uncomfortable! Anyway, gotta go, there's chocolate in the house with my name on

Hope all are well and are looking forward to D-Day (as much as possible anyway!)

x

extremelychocolateymilkroll · 17/11/2009 16:00

Hi all I'm 27 weeks this Friday - due 19 Feb. I've got a dd who is 2.3. I've been lurking for a while but thought I'd take the plunge and join you. My bump seems to have got enormous in the last week or so- I really notice it when I pick up dd. Dh had a go at measuring my bump yesterday and if he's right it came to 27cm measuring okay for the number of weeks I am. I was about 10 and a half stone when I became pregnant but lost half a stone - due to feeling sick for the first 16 weeks - and have just now got back to my pre pregnancy weight. I think I gained a stone and a half with dd but my bump feels so huge now I can't imagine how big it will ultimately be. 13 weeks still seems like a long time to go. Due to have my swine flu jab on Saturday - wish I could stop reading the SF threads on MN as I keep seeing things which are making me doubt my decision.

rainbowsprite · 17/11/2009 16:02

Hi everyone,

I'm a new newbie- first time post and first time mum and all and have really enjoyed the thread- I'm due on the 20th and soooo cannot wait to be finished work- is that bad??!!!

PinguCarrier and fluffycoo I've had a mahoosive growth spurt the last couple of weeks too - quote from a colleague 'Ooh there's more and more of you each time we see you'- yep cheers mate..saying that, my desk is infront of the table where all the sweets and chocolates and cake for the office are left. I have no self-control so its probably all mini toblerones rather than peanut!

My bump is wriggling like a little wriggle monster and was wondering if anyone else has had kicks aimed rearward that kind of feel like some weird gut gripe (which it isn't, i hope )

2Happy, glad ur flu jab was OK- mine is tomorrow and even tho I'm a scientist am still can't help but feel slightly worried about it, but now that more of the lurg is spreading round our office am glad I have the option to look after me and bump.

Well, had better get back to doing something vaguely productive...like eating the last cake on the table

watercress · 17/11/2009 16:26

Hello Rainbow and Extremely. I've lost track of whether newbies have added themselves to the list. Have a look, and do so if not (scroll to the latest version rather than using the one in the OP, otherwise other people will fall off, and just do a cut and paste job).

Welcome new folks and ever growing bumps, great to have you joining in

I'd like to raise a glass (of milk) to the new attitude to weight gain... Bollocks to it indeed [chinks glass wishing it was wine emoticon]

Stayed off work today as I had a splitting headache and just did not have the energy to fight through it. Feel better after a long sleep this afternoon though (how do people cope on pregnancy number 2,3,4.... I too can't wait to stop work, I even have the number of actual days on countdown (it's 20 - I have a lot of saved Annual Leave booked!)

Mawbroon your middle of the night icky turn sounds awful, did you get it checked out? Mind you with everyone being poorly you've probably had your fill of medical visits. Healthy and restful vibes coming your way.

Woowa I didn't see the post but can confess to getting very hung up on what other people think. If you can get the babymoon space go for it, I wish I had the balls to tell everyone to pee off

My bellybutton is really stretched open now with a slightly raised bit in the middle. Very odd. Its such a weird and slightly nauseating sensation when an elbow/knee/foot goes past under it. I'm having trouble imagining being much bigger but with 3 months to go it's going to happen. I need some bigger maternity clothes! Now where's good for thermal tent dresses

Keep well x

grin · 17/11/2009 23:11

Hello all, haven't posted in a while but have been reading. Usually after catching up I am either a) too tired to post and need to go to bed or b) feeling guilty that I should really be working. Anyway both are true tonight so I thought stuff it I'm posting anyway.

Hope all are well, welcome to newsters to the thread and yippee for me not being the only one getting all overemotional, hormonal and stroppy. Must be a 3rd trimester thing ladies. I think when you're actually making a real person in your own body it is entirely justified that you feel agrieved by others' unhelpful behaviour.

Anyway hope everyone's work/families/doctors etc calm down and that we can all go back to crying at Strictly (nothing wrong with that in my opinion) or adverts or small children being lovely...

Take care all

motherof2boys · 18/11/2009 09:41

mentally I felt much better for having swineflu injection - so much nastiness around. I had sore arm for a day or two. Maybe it contributed to those dodgy liver results but maybe not - they are under further investigation...thanks for kind thoughts!

I am due to have seasonal flu jab tomorrow as I am asthmatic. Any thoughts?

I found with Swflu that it was just great to have made a decision as I found the info on the Swflu thred a bit overwhelming TBH.

Still getting the low BP turns - I think it's par for the course but only 9 or 10 weeks to go for me now as getting induced at 38 wks!

fiziwizzle · 18/11/2009 11:34

Welcome to all newbies! Goodness I lose internet access for three days and have 4 pages to catch up on!

I would say my bump growth has slowed recently but thank goodness for that, before it seemed to be growing on a daily basis and even though I know it's ALL GOOD I was getting kinda embarrassed at how big I am. Still didn't stop eating the cakes though

woowa goodness me, it is your baby and your time, and OF COURSE you would prefer your own family to your DP's. I'm having my mum to stay for a week or so, I expect my dad will come and stay for a while after that, and DP's parents can come round for a cup of tea. They are the type that will sit there and be waited on rather than muck in as my family will.

Also my baby had a few quiet days in a row last week and everyone told me NOT TO WORRY. When I saw the MW on Monday she said that if it happened again for two days or more, to go and get monitored at the labour ward. Now I'm sure that it's nothing and in fact I think this is a pretty quiet baby, I'm rather jealous of everyone talking about their boots and kicks when I just feel the occasional wriggle now and then. But if it does go all quiet on me again, I'm going to head in for peace of mind.

Mawrboon get well vibes heading your way.

Talking of belly buttons I have taken out my belly bar which I've worn for 15 years and my belly looks so bare without it. But my belly button feels so nice! I didn't realise it was so soft. I love having a stroke [wierdo emoticon] It is well on the way to popping out. Now THAT will be strange.

Three cheers to everyone coping with elder children at the same time as pregnancy. I love the fact that I can just say sod it and go to bed if I'm tired (well, at the weekend anyway) and am already thinking how hard the second time will be...

woowa · 18/11/2009 14:12

fiziwizle surely once your belly button pops out you can re-pierce it with belly bar, and just have it hanging out.

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHh!!!

what an odd sight that would be!!

A friend who is a also a MW said today - ooh, isn't your bump suddenly getting bigger? - i suppose it's hard to tell when it's our own bump, but it was nice to be reassured by someone who can really tell.

Thanks for all those who have put my mind at rest about the parents and ILs coming to stay. I guess we all know what's best for own particular situation in life. If parents and inlaws were down the road of course I'd expect them straight away, but with 5 or 6 hours travelling they have to stay for a few days to make it feel worth the effort, and I don't think either DH or I will be up to having them in the house for a bit. Maybe, when it's born we'll realise our error and book parents on the first train!!

Have given up reading Swine flu threads. I'm still hoping my GP surgery will forget to call me in for it so I can remain in denial which is where I am now!!

Welcome newbies. Nice to see february getting busier - still no-one else due on 11th. But i guess the chances of any of us having it on due date day are pretty slim anyway.

FluffyCoo · 18/11/2009 17:02

Lol at fizi stroking her belly button! Mine just feels a bit numb and weird after all the sudden stretching!

I've decided to take the plunge with the swineflu jab - glad I'm not the only one who found the threads a bit overwhelming, I thought my head was going to explode from trying to take it all in! By the time my appointment comes around I'll be 29 weeks, baby will be pretty much "cooked" by then and just sitting there happily piling on baby chub, so I feel like that's about as close to damage limitation as i'm going to get!

I sooooo can't be bothered with work anymore! Just coasting and hoping no-one notices!!!

PS - has anyone else's skin been horrid throughout pregnancy?! Mine had settled down beautifully on the pill, then went to pot when I came off but I was sooo looking forward to having a lovely glow at least for the mddle trimester - instead I've been blighted with zits! Any suggestions or do I just have to get back on the Yasmin as soon as I've dropped?! Bad skin is not a side-effect I was expecting....!

Rainbowsprite - I'm with you on finishing work. All the good intentions about keeping focussed until I leave disappeared a couple of weeks ago. Thankfully Christmas will break things up a bit...I hope!

Did an hour on tidying out baby room today (currently full of junk). Can now see even less of the floor than I could before, which is slightly depressing. Ignoring it til tomorrow now. Why didn't I do it when I was 18 weeks? Why did I think only after christmas would I be too big to feel like sitting on the floor sorting through beads and ribbons and paper?

Anyone else just feel pooped? I don't have any other DCs or a job to make me feel this tired physically. argh... All downhill from here!

woowa - Me!!! Although not back to first trimester knackeredness it's still pathetic how little I can do without needing a rest! And forget working until 6 - brain departed at least an hour ago (having not turned up until about 11)....

I also tried to sort out the baby's room at the weekend and ended up sortng out wedding stuff that I've never got around to chucking out and generally making more mess than there was to start with! Now have to spend this weekend clearing up after myself (sigh).

I was expecting a return to first trimester type tiredness too mrsjeff - you know, the I need to sleep ALL the time tiredness. But it's different, it's body tiredness because of lugging an extra stone round - and an extra stone which kicks in the bits and makes sitting in certain positions hard. I'm sure we'll feel much better when the babies are born and we can get our lives back to normal.

HA HA HA.
