MO2 I am thinking of you, it is hard to wait for tests' results.
All My MW gave me a fantastic trick to help with piles. Do the "half bridge" twice a day. Lying flat on your back put your feet underneath your knee and lift your bum, the blood flow will go to your upper body and relieved the pressure down there, as you are also oblige to work your bum muscles, it also massages the blood away from there, and tones it at the same time. She said on the bed is fine before getting up and before falling asleep but I find it more confortable on the floor. It has been throbbing yesterday and the relief was instantenous (sp?).
I have low blood pressure too (90/60), it is quite normal in pregnancy and not worrying. I am lucky I don't feel dizzy with it (if I don't do too much). A freind of my was with the same BP. She had to put her feet up when sitted, and be careful when she got up, slow movements are better. If your kneeling with your toddler you have to go up slowy, so the blood follow can adjust. Basically, take your time to do stuffs, and rest when feel unwell.

Hooray! The third and final trimester, at last! Yippeeeeee.

Very excited.

Had scan NUMBER FIVE today, at which consultant booked me in for yet another one at 32 weeks... I live in the maternity waiting room/GP waiting room/outpatient waiting room. But good times for baby knitting! Sonographer showed me DC's FACE and that it has HAIR!!!!

EVEN MORE EXCITED

Went to first aquanatal class on wednesday - so exciting! They've just re-started where I live as they now have a midwife available. Totally shattered for the rest of the day, but well worth it as i'm not doing anything else, AT ALL! Can recommend if you can find one near you.

and [excitedfirsttimer] smiley face.

ktpie · 13/11/2009 16:11

Fluffycoo - very pleased to hear you've saved some cash!

Mamaloco - great piles tip, will give that a go. Am keen to try anything to avoid them as they were so bad last time.
I think doing things too quickly is probably my problem, I've been out all day today and been fine so pleased about that.

Woowa - Great news about the scan.

flyingcloud · 13/11/2009 16:29

Hello everyone - I'm 28 weeks today, SO excited.

(although on the earlier subject of weight gain, I've got my monthly consultant's appt on Monday and I will get weighed and I will get a ticking off I think I have put on a ridiculous amount of weight, oh dear...)

woowa · 13/11/2009 17:00

weight gain. [sighs].

Anyone else's DP/DH putting presssure on to lose it quickly after DC born? My DH is a generally lovely person, but his family has weight issues - ie, they are all thin and hardly eat, and can't seem to cope with the attitude my family has to food -enjoy it, don't worry etc. I'm really not huge normally, and even in pregnancy don't seem to be much bigger - but DH is obsessing with the food I eat, the exercise I do, and the weight - i'm very tall (6foot), so 14 1/2 stone (as of this morning - but fully clothed and shoed at hospital) isn't that bad, I think, but he seems to have lost his mind about it. He's obesssing with this 14 1/2 stone figure as being the worst nightmare in the world for him.

Completely ruined the happiness of the scan excitement for me. Fortunately I have a very sympathetic cat who sits on my lap when I cry and makes me smile by miaowing .

Sorry, just feel so upset, and wonder if other DH/DPs are so insensitive during pregnancy? And when do they get over it?!

watercress · 13/11/2009 19:03

Ooh, how exciting, a third trimester thread! That means that we're all nearly there!

Weight gain... to be honest, I haven't weighed myself this pg, and as I've had hardly any check-ups this time round, nobody has weighed me. DH is being very lovely and telling me that I'm all bump and nothing elsewhere but I'm not so sure.

And while he's lovely about that, he's being a bit crap about my pelvic pain. I try and back away from doing things that I feel will hurtor might make it worse and to be honest, I'm quite risk averse anyway, but he kind of steamrollers me into things and I just don't feel I can say no. Yesterday he insisted we went bowling and it's ruined me. So Woowa, you're not alone!

Re the fainting thing, i also get this due to low BP and blood sugar. I make sure I have snacks and a bottle of water with me at all times, which helps, and I can also now tell when it's blood sugar or BP making me feel crap. If it's the latter, I scrunch my feet up to make the blood flow back up my legs and it really helps. Hmm, don't think I've described that very well!

As for piles, eek! So sorry for those of you with them.

Hope everyone is keeping OK though. I've lost track of who is suffering with what but keep checking the thread. Pregnancy brain is definitely getting to me...

2Happy · 13/11/2009 19:25

Hah! This being the third time around, either dh is the most sensitive man on the planet, or he has learnt from bitter experience YOU DO NOT MESS WITH A PREGNANT WOMAN, including comments on weight. He even claims he finds me being pg sexy which would make me if I believed he meant it rather than he's just learnt the right things to say....

woowa · 13/11/2009 19:49

Thanks watercress and 2happy. Cheered me up some!

The weird thing is, my DH DOES think the bump is sexy, and says you can't tell that i'm pregnant from behind (hooray!), he loves that boobs bigger and all that, but he's obsessed with the number on the scales. I know MIL is also going to put pressure on to lose weight, as she mentions my SIL's a lot and has said "you WILL lose that weight" as if it were a heinous crime to not lose it.

So i guess i need to accept that
a) it's hard for DHs to understand everything, and for good reason, it's not their bodies
b) families are different. I married DH and love him, so need to accept that there will be things we disagree on and he's spent more of his life being his family than mine. After all, there are things about him that i feel the same about.

[philosophical sigh emoticon] Families....

Off to more cheery things - work to do this eve!

flyingcloud · 13/11/2009 20:36

Woowa - you could be me, although my DH has become a lot more sensitive about it during pg.

I saw his brother's wife for the first time in five months and she has lost all and some of the baby weight (baby born six months ago).

Everyone here in France feels that they can comment on my weight gain. 'well you're expecting a girl, it's normal to carry big', 'oh I was just unnaturally small at six months', 'No you haven't put that much weight on'

Blah blah blah. Just think of me getting a bollocking from my doctor on Monday and him telling me how hard I am making it for myself to a) give birth and b) go out in public after the birth when I am still a whale.

I am 5 10 and I think I am about 12 1/2 stone right now, but my scales are broken so not really sure.

Oh and I've totally stopped caring!!

bethylou · 13/11/2009 22:44

Thanks for starting new thread mamaloco.

motheroftwoboys: I had weird fainting type sessions last time round and my liver results were a bit funny for a while. They suspected cholestasis as I was a bit itchy (but not in the 'right' places for that) and monitored me carefully from then on, but my bloods righted themselves and the fainting thing passed at the same time. Hope this might help to put your mind at ease until you know more. Good luck.

Have decorated DS1's new room in the last week so finally feel that we are moving towards preparing for arrival of DS2 - am not nearly as organised as the rest of you (and starting to think that I should be getting the Christmas shopping done before I'm any bigger!)

Have a good weekend all.

FluffyCoo · 14/11/2009 10:28

Yay - 3rd trimester! We're on the home stretch girls!

Woowa I know exactly what you mean, although I get it from my mother... "Oh it's so hard to get rid of the weight afterwards, you must be SOOOO careful... you'll be able to join Slimming World straight away you know"... blah blah. My DH is lot more subtle - just raises his eyebrows as I tuck into a biscuit as if to say "are you sure you should be eating that?" Although to be fair to him, I think his concern is more to do with me saturating the baby in sugar than any potential weight gain!! I don't think he'd be openly critical anyway in case I fly into a hormone-fuelled rage and mortally wound him. He does tell me (often) that my bump is cute though.

I have not weighed myself at all - I refuse! for the first time ever, I couldn't give a tiny rats ass! [revelling in freedom from body-image hangups smiley]

esselle · 14/11/2009 13:25

Thanks for starting the new thread.

All is well with me apart from the freakin' heat wave we have had here. For the past week the temp has been between 30c - 36c and I am over it!! It is sapping my energy and I am feeling sorry for DD and DS spending the days indoors out of the heat and sun! At least I can go barefoot or just stick to flip flops - bending over to put shoes on is getting to be hard work!!

The heat is also diminishing my appetite too which isn't such a bad thing. I have been scoffing loads of watermelon and grapes though - looking forward to all the summer fruits being ripe.

I have been getting loads of kicks from baby which is great. I had a midwife appt 2 weeks ago which went well. It was 24wks but measuring at 26wks - nothing to worry about. Got to hear LO's heartbeat which was lovely too.

I can't believe some of you are getting comments about weight gain. I'd be furious if anyone said anything to me. Hell they would be picking up their teeth with broken fingers!!! If there is one time in your life that you can put on weight, it is now.

Now I am not in any way boasting but I found that losing weight after having my DC was not the hard work I thought it would be - I seemed to be so busy that I never had time to sit down. I also breast fed DD for 10mo and DS for 19mo which I think helped. But it does take some time... Ignore all of the celeb Mums who appear to be back to their skinny selves 2 weeks after they have given birth!!! It is not reality!!!

Phew that's enough ranting from me!! I am going to chill out and catch up on some Eastenders - we are 3 months behind here so no spoilers please!

mawbroon · 14/11/2009 16:30

Just marking this, don't have time to read just now.......

threeplusone · 14/11/2009 16:39

Homerun time..
I did say to DH last night when he gets home next saturday we will have 10days then can say we will have a baby in 2months!!!! It really is flying over.. cant believe how quick it is going...

woowa.. sorry your DH is being like this. I am lucky mione ios ok.. nbut I am a big girl anyway.. 5ft7inches normally weighabout 15stone.. DH is fine with it.. but I am all in proportion alot of people are shocked when I say I am a size 18-20 as they say I doint look anywhere near that big..

I am going to an 18th bday party tonight and it is fancy dress, which I hate anyway.. so have already said i will be going on normal clothes.. But dh said why when you can go as Mr Greedy..!"!!!!!! Luckily I did laugh at him.. and it was over webcam.. I think if he had been here dont think he would have said it..lol

Have a good weekend everyone..

GuernseyFrench · 14/11/2009 17:26

I need a rant so sorry to do it here!

I just received a letter from my HR department regarding my maternity leave. I am aiming to work as close to my EDD as possible. Due on 16th Feb so going to officially finish on 12th Feb but I'm planning to take some annual leave before.
Then take my 20 weeks leave.
HR has stated that I will finish work on 1st Feb, take 22 weeks leave so be on 2 weeks unpaid leave!!!
They can't read a form properly and they haven't been able neither to spell my address properly!!

I'm soooo

I can't wait Monday to go and see them!

Sorry for the rant but needed the pressure to escape...

I can't believe we are already into the 3rd trimester, it's a count down now...

sunnybump · 14/11/2009 20:53

Woowa for what it's worth I think your MIL is being pretty shortsighted. We're not built to loose weight instantly, I'm positive mine will come off in it's own time with all the pram pushing, breastfeeding and rushing around with a newborn. The advice is all about them anyway, try a pregnancy induced zone out and stare off into the distance, that shuts people up

GuernseyFrench don't worry about ranting, better to let it out than get all stressed inside. I was cursing the air blue about my work a few weeks ago. They can be really insensitive, downright rude and totally discriminatory and it's just not what you need. You could always take your holiday for week 21 and week 22 though to be off for the same time and keep your wages. I'm just looking forward to not being there for AGES!

3rd trimester, whoooohoo! and we're so close to getting into our house. Spent today running about with paint and carpet swatches trying to find curtains and blinds. I'm knackered now, but it's great to see the progress.

I'm sure my bump has expanded forwards about 2 inches instantaneously. I am back to trying to fit through spaces too small for me and getting stuck or brushing my bump against strangers

It's telly time for me now, feet up with a cup of peppermint tea (It really does help with the indigestion, not that I'm going to let the gavisgon go far out of sight), take care everyone

ktpie · 14/11/2009 21:32

I'm shocked by some of the attitudes to weight gain some of you have been experiencing! What ridiculous things to say to pregnant ladies.
I don't really understand your DHs attitude Woowa of being obsessed by the number on the scales. Surely he realises that a lot of the 'extra' is made up by baby, placenta and amniotic fluid, also you produce more blood and retain more water when you are pregnant, I've never sweated as much as I did a couple of weeks after having DS, felt like I lost about a stone in sweat (lovely) and that is just your body getting rid of the excess fluid.
I seemed to lose the pregnancy weight fairly quickly last time, it helped that my appetite went from constantly ravenous back to fairly normal. Getting any vague tone back on my stomach however was a different matter entirely! Last time though I put a bit of weight on on my thighs in the last few weeks, this time I can already see that happening so it may be a bit harder to shift.

Threeplusone - I'm another fancy dress hater so hope you have a good time tonight.

Sunnybump - I might have to try some peppermint tea, I sat down to a lovely dinner DH made last night and could hardly eat any of it, I think baby had a foot jammed in my stomach! Had bad indigestion all evening.

Guernseyfrench - hope you get the maternity leave sorted.

Esselle - we are certainly not having a heat wave here! It's been really windy today.

bethylou - we are busy decorating here as well, well DH is, I'm busy stopping DS helping!

Watercress - I will try the foot scrunching thing, thanks for that.

pyjamababe · 14/11/2009 23:18

Still haven't weighed myself but can still bend over so taking that as a good sign... 26 weeks tomorrow - is that my third trimester yet technically or have I a bit to do yet? Getting very excited nonetheless and actually bought something yesterday!!! A baby changing bag with a lovely giraffe print on it in case baby and I need emergency camouflage while out walking - what a thoughtful mummy I shall be

woowa someone told me "nine months up, nine months down" and that seems reasonable to me. We are all gorgeous pregnant ladies and anyone who makes us feel otherwise can shove it up their non-pregnant tiny little bottom

motherof2boys · 15/11/2009 07:27

I was in hospital again Friday and yesterday as the 'number' is still evil but has reduced - further tests and appointment with consultant booked so feeling better especially as they said that this sometimes happens and they never find out why. Thank you for all your advice and support.

There were a couple in the lift (it's only maternity in this building) and she was so worried about her weight gain (a tiny lady as well) and he was saying well maybe your clothes are half a kilo that I felt obliged to say that she looked great and hadn't to worry and he looked so pleased that I had spoken. The body is doing great things and we can't be obsessed with weight.

I guess it's a lesson as to how we treat other people and our daughters in the future (N/a in my case - I live in a house of snake hipped males and no doubt baby boy 3 will be just the same (the others are identical but the 5yr old looks like he's been in the boil wash!)

stressheaderic · 15/11/2009 09:11

Reading these posts about weight is interesting...I have never been a good eater really, it just doesn't interest me. However, whilst pregnant I have tried my hardest throughout to eat plenty of the right things all the time to ensure my baby gets the best start. I'm now 25 weeks and I'm still only 8 stone 10 lb (I'm 5ft 6), whereas I was just under 8 stone beforehand. I have a very small bump too, and I'm getting a little fed up of the constant 'are you sure you're eating enough/oh there's nothing of you/oh that baby's gonna be tiny'...it's starting to grate to be honest, do people really think I would jeopardise the health of my baby for any reason??

Urghh, up early today to try and attempt some Xmas shopping, but really cant be bothered. Not only don't I want to heave myself round the crowded shops, my cotton-wool head seems to have forgotten who we usually buy for, and what kind of things they like.... just wish I could get them all vouchers and be done with it!

Hey ladies
My mum keeps on at me not to put too much weight on - at 28 wks I have put on 1.5 stone but i really think it's all bump and boobs - she claims that when she was preggers in the 70s you were only meant to put on 1.5 stone in total!!! Anyway this is quite good pregnancy weight gain calculator and told me that based on my height and pre preg weight i should put on around 2st 2lbs altogether - which is purely an estimate and it does stress that every mother and baby is different! I might send it to mum.... It's such a shame that people (esp DPs) are so negative about this - at the end of the day if you didn't gain weight in pg that would be a bad sign so as far as I am concerned we should all be applauded! (and carry on eating cake, in moderation of course)

gingerkirsty · 15/11/2009 20:39

PS what i also meant to say is that the calculator breaks down your estimated weight gain into all the different bits, eg for me:

You:
Uterus 2.4 lbs
Breasts 1 lb
Blood 3.1 lbs
Water 4.2 lbs
Fat 8.3 lbs
Subtotal 1 st 4.9 lbs

Your baby:
Fetus 7.5 lbs
Placenta 1.6 lbs
Amniotic Fluid 2.0 lbs
Subtotal 11.1 lbs

Total 2 st 2.0 lbs

Cool eh?!

flyingcloud · 16/11/2009 07:02

Gingerkirsty - I love you for that calculator!

I had a meltdown yesterday and poor DH thought I was totally losing it. I am trying to plan the baby's room as I keep panicking that we are so unprepared. I know there's still another 11 odd weeks to go, but between now and after New Year I am travelling a lot for work, or away visiting my family or his family and we really won't have any time to do stuff until we're into January and that thought really freaked me out.

mamaloco · 16/11/2009 07:36

Thanks gingerkirsty that calcualtor is fab! As DD was the smallest baby in the familly at 4.170 g (9lb11) I guess I can also add some extra baby weight, fluids and placenta (apparently you need more of those to make a big baby). Which means I am on target even with my 11 kg so far, houray!
Their baby is a bit small at 3.4 Kg I thought the mean was 3.7?
Hope you all had a good week end
