Hi everyone Can't believe we could have our first baby in 4ish weeks

OP posts:

TigerFeet · 14/07/2009 21:21

Mine would be five months late

It might feel like a 14 month pregnancy by the end but I'm sure it won't be!

Minshu · 14/07/2009 21:37

I was sat in a meeting yesterday and a small lump appeared below my solar plexus. It slowly disappeared when I fiddled with it... Think she has ticklish feet like her mum What is the etiquette for feeling one's lumps in public? I just can't help myself

How do you recognise the hiccups? I thought I felt that a few weeks ago, when my whole bump would jump a few times, but not recently.

Cautious - I'm fed up of work now, too, but I was before I got pregnant if I'm completely honest. So pleased that there is some light at the end of that particular tunnel now.

Lucky you, peachy girl and nitnat for finishing this week - sounds like the kids are real sweeties, nitnat.

Would rather my LO doesn't arrive on my birthday - she'd be 5 weeks early. I never suffered from being one of the youngest in the class, but I think that's because my brother's just over a year older than me and so I learnt a lot from trying to be like him.

Have a fabulous day, StayFrosty.

blue76 · 14/07/2009 22:12

Wow I can't believe how many of us are due around our own bdays! This lil un due 20th and my bday is 19th.

Minshu - I'm always stroking bump...love it! I'll never forget how much I missed it when I had dd's. Literally felt 'empty'

blinder · 14/07/2009 23:24

I love stroking my bump too. I keep saying to DP or DS 'Look! I think that's a foot / bum / head / fist!' Between me and you guys, I think they are a bit bored with it !

Lets all make a pact to actually have the babies the day before our own birthdays (for those who can)! That way we can do the LO's birthday parties as they grow up and have our own the very next day. Yippee!

Why oh why did I just weigh myself? I never learn!!! Think I my be putting on too much weight as have put on about 6 pounds in 2 weeks!!! But still only 2 stone overall. That's not too bad, is it (will be 33 weeks tomorrow)?

Stayfrosty thanks for the osteopath tip. I'll check with MW next week! I've been told by others that the physio isn't much cop, but want it down on my records that I've been receiving treatment as they didn't really take me seriously during delivery of DD as I never got the physio then either!

Minshu you can recognise when the baby has hiccoughs as you get little rhythmical jerks in your tummy!! Mine gets them quite a lot and I've learned to ignore them when I'm trying to sleep now!!

blinder I'd go for having the baby the day before my b-day!! DH could do all the nappies as a birthday treat!! Lol!

LizLemon · 15/07/2009 09:31

I guess I could have him the day before dh's birthday instead which is the 3rd, but that makes him over two weeks early and it's only 7 weeks away. Not ready for that.

No Ladyem - that's not too bad at all. my book says that some women don't put on weight consistently anyway, so you can't tell until you're done .

LittleCheese · 15/07/2009 11:05

ive put on 1 stone 5 so far so not too unhappy about that. I was overweight to start with though

Gonnabamumma · 15/07/2009 12:08

Hey ladies, sorry haven't been around much, have been trying to catch up on posts but the board moves so quickly!

31 weeks today, had midwife app on Monday - may as well have saved myself the trouble and stayed at home! Am I the only one who's midwife is crap? Is my first, so totally clueless as to what is going on, so asked her where she thought the baby was, she said she couldn't tell, she thinks is might be breech at the mo, but I am getting kicks/punches on both my sides, so that makes me think that it is lying across me. She said because I am tall, it is hard to tell and it has heaps of room to move around still so not to worry. Then I asked very nicely if I could have my hipg form, and she looked at me like I vomited on her desk and said the hospital should have given it to me, but I haven't been there since 22 weeks, so that isn't possible! She huffed and puffed and then eventually filled it out - you would have thought it was her money I was asking for!! So thought may as well ask her if I could have something for my terrible indigestion and she told me to take sips of iced water - thanks but water makes it worse! ARGHGHGHGGHH - grumpy

Apart from that have a stinking cold, with matching nice cough - am a bit worried it might be swine flu, but am able to get up and go to work, so can't be that bad. 4 weeks left at work on Friday - woo hoo! And every Friday off until then - double woo hoo!!

Ladyem · 15/07/2009 12:09

I put on 3 and a half stone by the time I had DD, so I'm doing better than last time!!! Lol!! Still 7 weeks to go, though! My husband keeps saying 'of course you've put on weight, you're 7 months pregnant!!' Bless him!!

daffodilli · 15/07/2009 12:23

Gonnabamumma - DH really dislikes my MW! They dont tell you much do they? I always have to ask if size is ok, BP is ok, wee sample is ok..? etc. I also find that when we are sitting in her room, she is filling in something in my file, and its very quiet, I like to make a bit of conversation...she NEVER answers or even looks at me to acknowledge I've spoken, so we just sit in silence now, which makes me cringe as I like to chat! Luckily she does my BP as soon as I get there, otherwise it would be sky high! Very tempted to send a little note on how to treat your patients...(could cc it to everyone elses rather pants MWs!)when I've had baby obviously!
Hope your cold clears up quickly

FairySparkles · 15/07/2009 12:39

hi girls, haven't read any posts yet - just briefly popping in to share this link
here
very interesting reading re: breast feeding

will pop back and catch up later

StealthPolarBear · 15/07/2009 12:51

hi everyone
StayFrosty - what are you up to tonight? Anything or nothing? When will you be back on MN to let us know how it all went?
Still no news from ladylush!!
I feel my bump at work - think I also do it with a huge grin on my face I don't care, hopefully will not come back!!
Feeling guilty at the moment as DH is painting the kitchen and so I am eating mostly junk Trying to do better today though but it's hard when whatever I prepare has to be very quick and involve no preparation (kitchen not really clean enough). Never mind, should all be over after the weekend.

StealthPolarBear · 15/07/2009 12:58

OK I don't usually do this (just like to make that clear as it's kind of stalkerish) but I did a search for ladylush on MN and her last posts were on the 5th of July (she also posted on this thread then). She said she had a scan the next day, so it may be related to that. Really hope everything is OK with her.

BabyLady · 15/07/2009 13:29

Stealth - so not stalking. We are all just concerned.

Ladyem, I have put on almost 25 pounds and I have 6 weeks to go. Let's hope the growth slows down a bit in the last month...

Not stalkerish really, Stealth. Not in this case.

I feel my bump all the time now - don't know I'm doing it half the time.

Had a good chat with my mum yesterday (we don't have the closest relationship tbh) - she'd sent a parcel of clothes for the littl'un, which were really nice, and said unprompted on the phone that she's going to wait to visit for a couple of weeks after he's born so we can get settled, and they'll stay in a hotel, instead of trying to squeeze into our flat. Such a relief not to have that conversation, about not wanting people to stay with us 24/7. Just dh's mum to do now

Off to yoga shortly, although I'd rather be going back upstairs to bed.

LJ29 · 15/07/2009 14:15

Hi guys! I have been lurking but not posted. 31 + 4 today and had MW app this morning. ALl is fine and baby is head down. Feeling some nice strong movements but he does have his quiet days. I finish work 5 weeks on Friday which feels like ages away but I am really looking forward to finishing. I have sinisitus at the moment so have been given antibiotics but its just making sleeping all the more difficult because of my blocked nose and I am shattered.

I asked the doc about swine flu and being at work. He said that staff have an obligation to stay away from work if they have the symptoms but to be honest you've more chance of catching it in Tesco than at work and unless you plan on living in a bubble for the next couple of months/years and not have any contact with people in the outside world there really isn't an awful lot you can do to avoid it. I know its worrying but I do think the media is hyping this up. Thousands of people get flu every year and we don't make this much fuss. The symptoms are no different and the mortality rate is similar. I am actually more worried about getting it once baby has been born than getting it now as there is no medicine for children under 12 months old.

On that cheerful note! Best of luck with the wedding tomorrow SF, do post some pics on your profile if you get chance - I always cry at weddings!

daffodilli - Am exactly the same - silence for me is def not golden! I like a bit of a chat to break the ice!

StayFrosty - I thought it was weird too that she couldn't tell which way up the baby is. And I have never been given a measurement - I haven't a clue what size the baby is, they have never said anything about size.

This pregnancy mallarky is just one long stab in the dark!

I too confess to being a bump feeler - I like to rub my belly button in public!

Am feeling knackered now from coughing, think I am going to put my head on my desk and take some zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

blinder · 15/07/2009 15:46

My MW is totally obsessed with breast feeding. I have told her clearly on several occasions (from day 1) that I intend to breast feed, that DP supports it, and that I managed to with DS despite obstacles. But no matter what I want to discuss (tests, previous birth, hypnobirthing, homebirth) she nods, glazes over and gets back to the breast feeding malarkey.

She has given me a dvd, two booklets and lots of 'talks'. Wha...? Bit worried about her tbh!

FairySparkles · 15/07/2009 16:50

Phew - just been catching up on the last couple days posting - sorry to hear some are not feeling to great and not all MW are shiny happy people - I've been exceptionally lucky that all mine have been lush!(I've seen a different MW each time as my usual one is on leave)

I too am a bump feeler - although mainly it's to poke it back in as it's battering hell out of me ALL THE TIME!!! It's defo got plenty of room still and is doing full turns at every opportunity - dd was never this active I'm sure??

Ding Dong Stay Frosty - all the best for tomorrow - we should have a little virtual hen party on MN tonight for you??!!

worried about Ladylush - maybe they've just taken her in on bed rest like they said they wanted to?? - your not a stalker stealth!!

blinder - MW are such keen beans eh!! Mine are quite good at backing off when I tell them i'm a volunteer at our local BF group - but they do love to go on about it don't they!

Daffodilli - poor you with SPD - there's quite a lot on here now eh?? I'm sure I've got it too but my MW is pretty blase about it!

mummyhill · 15/07/2009 17:25

OK does anyone know anything about maternity and employment law?

Work have just phoned to "see how I am" and are concerned as I am signed off till Thursday. So have had 2 weeks off. I was asked (Heavy hints they would like it)if I decided to bring my maternity leave forward! I think I upset her a bit when I told her that the GP had only signed me off for 2 weeks till I could get in and see the physio and that I would be taking her advice as to whether or not I come back before I have the baby. Can they make me take my leave early if I don't want to?

nitnat84 · 15/07/2009 18:40

I have a feeling mummyhill that if you have any maternity related illnesses 11 weeks before your due date then they can make you start your maternity leave early. Dont quote me on that but I am sure I read that somewhere.

LJ29 · 15/07/2009 18:49

They can only start your maternity leave early if you are sick in the last 4 weeks before you are due. Eg if you go sick at 35 weeks for 2 weeks they can start your leave at 36 weeks.
