Thought I'd better start the new thread before it was too late. Here we go!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
llareggub · 31/03/2009 14:03

I'm sure it might take weeks for actual labour to start. I''m hoping what she meant was that this is the start of labour but it'll take weeks.....(fingers crossed!)

Belgianchocolates · 31/03/2009 14:08

llare Oh no, you must be so nervous, things seem to be moving along quickly. But I suppose those changes in your blood sugars and things might be a sign there's something hormonal going on in your body, right? Diabetes - labour, all connected to hormones, aren't they? Exciting and scary!

grumpy I'm considering becoming a full time Crocs wearer. I keep squeezing into my pumps, but they are getting very tight and uncomfortable, so maybe I'll just have to succumb to my Crocs for the next 5 weeks or so.

Belgian I'm scaring myself silly by reading things on t-internet. Another sign to check off the list: loose stools! I've been constipated for weeks and now I'm not.

I think I am going to stop googling now. The GP sent my urine off for analysis as I had blood and white blood cells in it. I've no idea what that might indicate and I don't want to know. Weirdly I thought it looked a bit pink when I wiped and asked him if he thought it was amniotic fluid and he told me it wasn't. He did tell me off for not drinking enough though....

Scared now, although I bet in 6 weeks time I'll still be blinking pregnant!

emmabemmasmom · 31/03/2009 14:21

Thank you for all of your messages and kind words. I can't get in to see him until Friday because of other appointments tomorrow afternoon and Thursday...

That is the weird thing though. I was in hospital waiting for results. They were taking ages so they said I could leave. I called my GP and spoke to the midwife and there was a problem with my results, but I finally got it sorted last week. I spoke to the midwife who called the hospital and asked for certain results(numbers)...she then spoke to my GP with said numbers...and he prescribed Iron and whatnot...but I don't think he saw the full results until now.

So when GP called today they were just like 'oh regarding the bloods you were after, DR just got the full results and needs to see you'...

So is that not weird? Usually he would prescribe something or just say everything is fine. I asked if I could speak to the midwife Thursday and they said no, I had to see the GP...

runningmonkey · 31/03/2009 14:31

llare how exciting/nerve inducing

emmabemma try not to worry as others have said if it was something v serious they would have got you in sooner. Your dinner sounds fab by the way.

belgian I have bit of a thing dlfor supernoodles too. At Uni we used to eat supernoodle sarnies... Carb overload

Belgianchocolates · 31/03/2009 14:48

llare Stop googling! Blood and white blood cells could be an indication of a water infection, not that you're starting labour. So you can tick that of you 'signs you're going to have the baby soon' list

I've just discovered that something I'm talking about in my presentation (independent mws) is wrong. Why did the Independent MW Association have to change their name and the way they work this month. If it was last month it would all still have been up to date

Jael · 31/03/2009 15:10

Just a quick message, DP phoned Stoke Hospital this morning to see if they had recieved my referral and I have an appointment with the consultant there at 8:30 tomorrow morning...bit scary, as were going to talk about when they want to do my MRI brain scan, and MW last week was talking about possibly bringing my CS forwrd to 38 weeks, that's only 3 weeks away! I'll let you know how I get on XX

SpangleMaker · 31/03/2009 15:22

Jael good luck with your appointment tomorrow. You might just make it into the brand new maternity unit as I think it's supposed to open over Easter. Best of luck anyway, hope you get a solution you're happy with.

llareggub how scary/exciting! How far along are you now, about 34w? I'm sure you have some time yet. Obv I don't have any of my own experience to go on but it sounds as if the body can take weeks to gear itself up for labour.

rosielady · 31/03/2009 15:25

Jael at least they sound efficient!

How exciting - you could have the LO in 3 weeks!

Hope all goes well.

Emmabemma would like to meet up too - and good luck with your dinner party - your food sounds great! I agree if it was something really serious they would get you in to speak to sooner.

I had chicken noodles for lunch yesterday - the really cheap ones from tesco - so tasty!

SpangleMaker · 31/03/2009 15:27

emmabemma like the others have said, I'm sure the GP would have had you in right away if it was anything serious. But the not knowing must be v stressful.

Momino · 31/03/2009 15:28

oh, somany things happening as we get closer to due dates!

Llareggub, good luck and keep us posted (am excited for you).

emmabsmom, echoing what others say, try to relax until your appt. if it were ultra-urgent, they would have fit you in somewhere. Also, could I come to your mex dinner? it's my favourite type of food.

Jael, exciting for you too! can't wait for an update.

hens: am {envy} as well. we had hens when I was growing up in Ohio and I loved hthe fresh eggs they provided. we have a tiny yard in the city, though, and our dog would go mad!

I've just made an appt to see head MW at hosp to talk about dd2's labour which had such a negative impact on my mental health. my AN teacher knows her and set up the contact so think it will be helpful for them to add any notes to my records. I'm going to try to do my birth plan before then... anyone do theirs?

am off to see friend's new baby boy. see you later.

flippineck · 31/03/2009 15:29

Wow, it's all starting to get a bit real now, isn't it?!

Jael - hope it goes ok tomorrow. Llareggub - hope you've got a bit longer yet, but how exciting and/or scary!

I'm at work, but managing to avoid doing anything too challenging. Working up the energy to call HR to ask them a question, I know they won't know the answer and that it'll take me about 2 hours to make someone even understand what the question is. Bah! After today though, I only have one day left in the office, woohoo! No plans for mat leave though, other than wash all the baby stuff, look after DD, catch up with my non-working mum-friends, go to the chiropractor, get my haircut, plan my home birth, visit my parents (6 hours away)...

SpangleMaker · 31/03/2009 15:53

OMG just had what I'm sure was a big leak of my waters!! Off to phone hospital, wish me luck!

emmabemmasmom · 31/03/2009 16:07

Hey just catching up a bit...

SpangleMaker Oh wow!! Let us know what happens!! 'bitting nails!'

Thanks again everyone for making me relax. I am sure it is nothing...just weird but oh well!

Yes you can all come to my dinner! lol We will have to have a powwow on the floor but hey!

SweetBROODY · 31/03/2009 16:10

Grr I am so annoyed and so sorry! I have loads to catch up on it seems this pregnancy is going to be eventful one way or another... went for my 31 week check up and had high BP ? so they said uh oh could be that we take baby out!!!

I was like NO way I haven?t even packed my baby bag? Now I am going to make sure I do pack it ? dads been taken to hospital again so I am busy traipsing back and forth... And just so so tired... and baby is kicking like crazy at the moment and it?s all a bit sore! I am a grump aren?t I... my LM pissed me off though because I discharged myself from hospital to work on a really high profile visit and she didn?t even say take the day off!!!

When are we starting the raspberry tea ladies?

llareggub I am so glad things went well for you at the hospital (18th March) I am also worried about the size of this little one... because I really do want to do it as naturally as possible with Diabetes!

Polony Dandylioness it?s ok about the meet ? please let me know if you plan another ? would be lovely to meet you guys!

sophietom those Thornton?s orange and cardamom chocolate sounds lovely... I may have to go on the hunt... it?s quite a strange craving because I feel really agitated until I go and eat some! But I don?t like the taste of it? :D strange!

LoobyLou36 Sorry about your GD diagnosis ? I know it can come as a shock... I?m here for you if you need to ask any questions or if I can help! I am type 2 diabetic! ? They are more likely to induce if you are put on insulin? and it is NOT your fault... some things in life you just don?t have control over! llareggub is right I was hysterical when they told me in my last pregnancy.. I really didn?t expect it and they found it at 8/9 weeks? lots of good advice on food there ? fruit is ok as well... you should be able to eat everything in moderation as long as you counter this with exercise or medication! It is trial and error as well... what works for one person might not work for another! Stick to a low GI diet or combine low Gi with High to create medium GI meals?.

MsG Hip forms are going to take ages still from what I understand they have a huge backlog?

My big pregnancy crave is Whippy ice cream from the van!?! I understand I?m not allowed I was telling DH I desperately want some as soon as baby is out!

I am still catching up from the last thread I am on page 39! And then I have to get through this one! But I am sure will soon catch up with all you lovely ladies!

SpangleMaker · 31/03/2009 16:18

Got to keep a pad on and phone back in an hour. MW didn't sound convinced it was my waters (the Royle Family line 'are you sure it weren't just a great big piss, love?' comes to mind ) but I'm sure it is, if it isn't I've completely lost bladder control as I still feel leaky now (sorry, that's TMI!).

Am trying not to panic & see the funny side.... Ocado delivery man arrived just as I got through to the DAU & was bringing the bags in as I was describing what had happened to the mw Hmm, may have to use Tesco next time.

Gert2a · 31/03/2009 16:34

emmabemmasmom - hope all is well. Sending you positive thoughts.

Llare how exciting!

Spangle how exciting too!

Can't quite believe that things are starting to 'happen'. Wow!

Been and done some shopping, got lovely necklace and earrings that I may or may not get to wear at best friend's wedding. And cute cute sleep suits. Must stop buying baby clothes, must stop buying baby clothes...

sophietom · 31/03/2009 16:37

Spanglemaker very exciting- I bet the Ocado delivery man got out of there sharpish- he was probably panicking that he may have to make a different kind of delivery!!
Jennster it's possible we've met if you go to aqua natal, (I've only been going for 3 weeks though)- small world eh?
llareggub hopefully things won't progress too quickly for you but very exciting all the same
jael good luck for tomorrow
Right I'm going to go back a few pages to work out how to join the facebook group

SpangleMaker · 31/03/2009 16:43

sophietom funnily enough he did seem in rather a hurry.

Does anyone know what they'll do if I have lost most of my waters? Wait to see if I go into labour on my own, & induce me if not, or will they give me antibiotics & send me home? Don't feel remotely twingey.

Belgianchocolates · 31/03/2009 16:45

am on phone. just want to say to spangle. hope everything is ok and that it turns out to be ok. it s just a bit early for baby to come now, isn t it.

SweetBROODY · 31/03/2009 16:51

All this talk of cocktails could I have sex on the beach please :D I am so gagging for it at the moment dnt know what?s wrong with me! 31 weeks and baby will prob be here in 7 weeks! So not long to go bloody scared!
Belgian: the sperm race program was fabulous?
Ladies I am a first timer and all this talk of labor and c-sections are frightening!

I am only now on page 5 but hope to catch up later today.. good bye for now!

SpangleMaker · 31/03/2009 16:57

Thanks for replying belgian. MN is great DH is on his way home from work, though I told him not to go crazy as it's not an emergency, but it's great to be able to post on here to stop myself panicking too much!

It is too early. Am hoping I've made a mistake and it's just an embarrassing consequence of not enough pelvic floor exercises.

emmabemmasmom · 31/03/2009 16:57

SpangleMaker How many weeks are you? My waters broke last time on Saturday at 11pm. They had me come in to examine me and then sent me on my way back home! I was home until Sunday about 6pm when I went back to hospital. They had me scheduled for an induction Monday morning in fear of infection but ended up going in full on labor and having DD at 2pm Monday...Oh and I didn't start getting contractions for a few hours after my waters went...

So I would assume if you are enough weeks along then they will just monitor you and may induce in a few days if you don't go into labor. From what I understand your fluid is replenishing so no need to worry about baby sitting in no water...biggest thing I think is infection...

But see what they say and good luck!!

sophietom · 31/03/2009 16:58

Spanglemaker I don't know what the hospital will say but I'm sure I've read somewhere that your waters can go several days before labour starts- I'm guessing they'll want to monitor you though...
at least it's not too long to wait before you can phone MW back
