Thought I'd better start the new thread before it was too late. Here we go!

LoobyLou36 · 31/03/2009 11:12

I live in Hereford emmalina on the edge of the city but we have a large garden for them to run around in, they're great fun although we are having to chicken-proof the veggie patches from them

Blottedcopybook · 31/03/2009 11:18

I live about 10 miles outside of Glasgow, in a commuter town. I have a pretty decent sized garden and very understanding neighbours! We actually raised meat birds over winter this year so we had 15 cockerels and a couple of turkeys in addition to the hens - I have to problem with doing them in, but I couldn't hurt my lovely hens! Yeah Belgian they've been sunbathing all week, they've turned what used to be my lawn into a giant dustbath!

Grumpy I'm still pretty wiped out to be honest, really not helped by DH waking me at 6am for some birthday funtimes. I didn't get to bed until nearly midnight and I still don't feel awake. I just braved Sainsburys forgetting it's payday today, what a nightmare! So I'm going to have a glass of chocolate milk and pray that the babies go for a nap soon. DS2 has developed impetigo overnight so I'm just waiting for me, DH and DS1 to get it now. Happy days!

Also - can't remember who it was that was talking about flapjacks last night but Sainsburys do MASSIVE ones at the bakery counter, think they're 75p each or four for £2.50. HUGE, and half dipped in chocolate.

emmabemmasmom · 31/03/2009 11:36

runningmonkey Well I am making way to much food for 4 people lol I am doing a mexican theme as I can make a lot tomorrow during the day as I am making everything homemade...starting with salsa, guacamole, and a chili cheese dip. Then going to make enchiladas with pork that I am slow roasting today and shredding up...serving that with mexican rice and black beans...and then dessert will be a cheesecake with a cinnimon honey topping...similar to the mexican dessert sopapillas but in cheesecake form!
Whew...better get started lol

I love to cook too...it is my time to myself while DH watches DD...I lock myself in the kitchen and turn on my cd player and I find it very relaxing...

Going to get my pork in the slowcooker!!

emmabemmasmom · 31/03/2009 11:37

Also trying to paint a wall in my livingroom red during DD's nap...

Maybe I am taking on to much!

LoobyLou36 · 31/03/2009 11:49

emmabemmasmom sounds yummy! - can I come to dinner?

LoobyLou36 · 31/03/2009 11:52

we've got parentcraft class tonight at the hospital. DH doesn't want to come, but I've told him he has to

CoteDAzur · 31/03/2009 12:06

I have a Moby, too I haven't washed/tried it on yet, though.

DD has a bit of a fever, so we are home today. Very bad timing, because we are moving house, and I had arranged cleaning lady for new home for today. God knows what she is up to there now.

Meanwhile - Is anyone else's tummy bizarrely numb around the middle? I don't remember this from previous pregnancy at all.

SpangleMaker · 31/03/2009 12:14

emmabemmasmom ooh, mexican's my favourite, can I come too I'm very impressed!

Looby sorry to hear about the insulin. We finished our ante-natal classes last night. DH was on a 3 line whip (also to at least look as if he was enjoying himself). I don't think he minded really, he agrees it'll be useful to understand what's going on and how he can help, though he admitted to being a bit bored at times. I don't think it's real for them until it happens.

detsy thanks so much for the cds! I tried the birth prep one yesterday aft but fell asleep - started with the breathing in golden light, heard something about cervix opening in the middle, then 54321 awake! - v relaxing tho. Maybe it's going in subconsciously I like the idea of birth prep via napping

V impressed with your stationery btw

EmmalinaC · 31/03/2009 12:24

Spangle I used hypno CDs last time. The fact that you immediately came to with the 54321 awake means you reached just the right level of relaxation. If you'd actually fallen asleep you would've woken hours later wondering what happened!

Cote good luck with your house move. Stressful enough without a poorly DD.

Belgianchocolates · 31/03/2009 12:30

Talking about the birth prep cd. I listened to mine yesterday and I've discovered that you just can't do the whole relaxation thing if you've got a cold and a blocked nose! So for once I managed to hear the whole thing without falling asleep. I suppose it will still have been useful even though I wasn't really relaxed and constantly wondering how to breathe.

No numb tummy here. Swollen fingers and feet, yes. I can't take my wedding ring off anymore and a lot of my shoes are too tight.

I'm having Supernoodles for lunch. They were my 1st trimester craving and I couldn't resist them when I walked past them in Morissons earlier. I'll try to have something healthy and nutritious for desert, maybe some yoghurt with fruit or something.

Gert2a · 31/03/2009 12:46

Blotted Noooooo, don't tell me about good flapjack stockists... it's not helping my addiction!! (but may have to pop into Sainsberry's later today, so will check them out!)

Emmabemmasmom can I come for dinner too? Sounds fantastic.

Looby our final parentcraft class is tomorrow - same time as the England match - have had great difficulty getting DH to the previous ones, am wondering how I can convince him to attend tomorrow's? You have my sympathy!!

Belgian (ssshhh) supanoodles were my first trimester craving too! Can't face the thought of them now! But hope you enjoy.

Re the Moby slings - am wanting to buy a sling, so am wondering if this is the one to go for? I'm 5'8" and a size 18, do those of you with experience of them think it would be ok for my build?

Spent most of last night awake - woke up at 3am and didn't get back to sleep til 6, then DH's alarm went off at 6.30. I used to lie awake sometimes thinking about work and making lists in my head. Now I have no work to think about I lie there thinking about babies and birth and weddings I won't be able to attend. Very frustrating!

Blottedcopybook · 31/03/2009 13:06

Gert2a - I'm 5'8" and a 16-18 and can't rave enough about how good they are :D

pulapula · 31/03/2009 13:24

Momino- I am having trouble getting to bed before midnight, and then waking up to turn over, and when LO wriggles about. It means i find it difficult to get up in the morning, although at least DCs are sleeping in a bit still. We put them to bed at 7pm last night (normal time) and DS woke at 7.20am- interesting since his "favourite" wakeup time used to be 6.20, so maybe he wakes when it gets to a certain amount of lightness...

I have had to remove my wedding ring as my fingers were swelling up and I would rather take it off than find i can't! Also shoes are very uncomfortable but with size 7 feet, i would rather not go out and buy the next size up as my feet look big enough as it is! Think i will invest in some sandals so at least my toes have room, although its not really springlike anymore

divedaisy · 31/03/2009 13:24

Hi all!! I am pi**ing myself at your replies about the Hooter Hiders!!! I nearly wet myself when my friend sent me the link!! They are the most hideous things ever - you might as well have a sign saying -'hey guess what I'm doing and trying to hide and be discrete about'! They are the most un-discrete things ever!! More people would be looking AT you for looking totally crazy! I found using a baby blanket, fleece, or layered clothing worked a treat WITHOUT drawing attention to what you were doing! I remember bf ds in an Indian restraunt. The waiter came over to me and asked if I needed a few more minutes, and dh looked at me as if to say 'What did he mean?' - dh didn't realise I was bfing - he thought we were having a cuddle! And dh was very anxious about me bf 'in public' too. And I did tell my friend exactly what I thought!!!

I'm in a pickle at the moment, cos all the baby names I thought I liked I've kinda gone off them now.... I liked Victoria Rose - but now doon't like Vicky (as in Pollard). I liked Sofia Rose - but dont' think people would pronouncec it right - so-fi-a (as in Loren)- and would end up being called Sophie. DH is adamant Harrison is totally out, and I now agree cos he has a dippy cousin called Harry... and I cannot think of a male middle name that means something. Dh thinks Thomas (his dead dad's name) wich is OK, but then if he was to do that I'd want my dead dad's name there too (David) but dh doesn't want to be 'reminded' about him - long story but surely if I'm ok using the name then there shouldnt be a problem. So I feel back to square one again... and still not knowing the sex of this one makes it even harder. At this rate itll be given a number..... Might try that name link thing again if I can find it... Still like Oliver and Olivia is making its way into my thoughts too..... decissions eh?? And Dh only comes up with daft suggestions that you'd NEVER consider so although it's funny, it's also so damn annoying! OK Rant over... it's safe to come out now...

Away to but bike frames on ebay...

divedaisy · 31/03/2009 13:27

Oh and re FB - although I have created a page for me (I think cos I don't really know how it works) if we are going to be continuing a post-natal thread here it may be too much for me to keep up wiith 2 sites. Though saying that I don't want to lose out! So what's the FB member only thing really for?? I live in NI and meet-ups etc won't really affect me...

llareggub · 31/03/2009 13:29

Hi everyone

Just got back from the doctors as I couldn't get through to the diabetes nurse this morning and I had a return of the palpitations yesterday evening. Had a great chat with the doctor who admitted he knew nothing about insulin, but agreed I shouldn't take it if my sugars were low.

He took my pulse, BP, temperature, wee and concluded I have a urine infection! Talk about unexpected. So I now have antibiotics and have been ordered to drink more.

Looby the insulin needles aren't painful at all, you'll be fine.

pulapula · 31/03/2009 13:31

divedaisy- glad you told your friend you definitely didn't want a hooter hider lol. I find with BF that the difficult bit is getting LO latched on, but once they're on then there's nothing to see as LO's face covers the boob (or you can arrange your clothing/muslin square if necessary). Therefore can't see why a hooter hider will help, as surely it makes getting the baby onto the boob very tricky!

As for names, we have reduced our shortlist to just 4 and DH definitely wants to decide before LO is born as he doesn't like them not having a name straightaway- we had DD and DSs names ready in advance. So our list is now Oliver (Ollie), William (Will), Fred (Freddie), and Samuel (Sam).

emmabemmasmom · 31/03/2009 13:36

Just got a weird call from the GP. I was in hospital a few weeks ago with a list of complaints a mile long...needless to say they did tons of blood tests and exams. I was in for nearly 24 hours and was told to go home and everything was fine basically. I was put on Iron and also had a minor infection.

Now, my GP just got the results of everything and wants to see me asap. I can't get in until Friday but they wouldn't talk to me over the phone. I am seeing the midwife Thursday and they said she won't be able to discuss it with me as the GP as made the request to see me...

What does all this mean and should I be worried? Don't know how I will make it to Friday without knowing...

Tummum · 31/03/2009 13:40

Afternoon all. Just logging on while DD2 snuggles up to me whilst watching Pinochio, again...

Had a good conversation with my boss who agreed I could 'work from home' until Friday when I will saunter into the office, pack my stuff and then go on maternity leave

So, am defrosting the freezer and sorting out the nursery whilst 'working from home' today.

emmabemmasmom your dinner sounds fab... any chance of the receipe for the cheesecake.... I have a craving for cheesecake... mmmmmmmm

Pinochio is the weirdest film ever, by the way !

Tummum · 31/03/2009 13:42

Emmabemmasmom just read your post. Big hugs - can't believe they can't see you until Friday. Is there any way you can get an emergency appointment before then?

EmmalinaC · 31/03/2009 13:43

emmabemmasmom could be all sorts of things, most probably nothing to worry about. Is there no way at all you can get to him sooner? Just to put your mind at rest? You don't need three days worrying. Really hope everything is ok.

llareggub · 31/03/2009 13:51

emma I'm sure if it required treatment he'd prescribe something over the phone. My GP does. I wonder if it is something unconnected with pregnancy? My GP refuses to do anything related to pregnancy and refers me straight to labour ward with anything baby related! I'm sure he'd insist on seeing you sooner if there was a major problem.

I've just had a call from the diabetes nurse and I think I'd better get my bag packed! She has told me to ditch the morning insulin dose due to my readings, and told me this often happens when labour starts! This, combined with my high temperature is making me a little nervous. I know that labour can take ages to get going, but it seems something maybe happening. She wants me to be seen by my consultants tomorrow (eek!) DS was born at 37 weeks so I'm not altogether surprised....who knows?!

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 31/03/2009 13:55

pula

I would love to wear some sandals (size 7/8 feet here ), but I have very hairy toes at the moment - ooooh attractive!!! - and I can't do any hair removal on them - can't bend. DH won't do it, as my feet are proper trotters/hooves - they're awful and he won't touch them (don't blame him).

emmabemmasmom - hope everything's ok........

Just eaten very large slab of banana bread (I keep chanting '1 of your 5 a day 1 of your 5 a day').

Belgian - supernoodles? Gasps in horror

Belgianchocolates · 31/03/2009 14:01

Emmabemmasmom I wouldn't worry too much about it. You'd have heard from the hospital by now if there was something seriously wrong. GP's get spooked a bit easily when it comes to pregnancy. I bet your GP will say you're anaemic and your bloods show you had a minor infection. You'll be able to say that you're already on iron and the hospital already told you about that minor infection . Generally when you're in hospital the drs there will have already seen your blood results before they discharge you. They can access the results much quicker via the computer AND if there's a seriously abnormal blood result the lab phones the ward you're on a.s.a.p. Oh and do ask your mw on thursday if you can't move your appt with your GP. She should be able to access those results from the computer at the GP's (most GP surgeries are that advanced I think) and tell you what she thinks the letter was about.

Pula I like Ollie and William is on our shortlist. Never thought of Ollie for my own, but might propose it to dh next time I see him.
