Thought I'd better start the new thread before it was too late. Here we go!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
llareggub · 29/03/2009 21:49

I could probably google to find a link to support this, but I'm pretty sure that dummies are recommended as a means of preventing cot death, in the same way that sleeping on backs is recommended.

We didn't use a dummy with DS, but not for the want of trying! He just spat it out in disgust. I do wish he'd taken to it as he used to cluster feed for hours, and hours, and hours. I think his cluster feeding was a definite factor in my mumsnet addiction!

Febes · 29/03/2009 21:50

Ok so I've joined the group and am friends with Fi and llareggub but how do I find the group now??

FiKelly · 29/03/2009 21:50

Heading off to bed... hoping i sleep better tonight as i spent pretty much all of last night tossing and turning... between dreaming about nothing but houses! night night xoxox

runningmonkey · 29/03/2009 21:52

Thanks for your email llare and hope you are feeling ok now

fi fingers crossed for you re house sounds exciting if a bit stressful

No opinins to offer re dummies altho I have been given some unused ones by a mate. Figured if they are there and we're desperate... seeing as the babe has had his hand in his face each scan am thinking that maybe he'll be a thumbsucker like I was

And yes another one with ahem secretions here

llareggub · 29/03/2009 21:53

Febes, I've sent you an invite to it. You'll need to accept it. Have a look in the top right hand corner where the friends requests are, it should be there. If not I'll try it again.

frazzledoldbag · 29/03/2009 21:54

Yes, whoever mentioned the link between using a dummy and lowering cot death rates - apparently there is a connection and they are recommended for 6 months (I think or maybe longer???? can't remember). Not sure how or why but apparently it works.
Off for bath and bed soon. Night night x

pulapula · 29/03/2009 21:55

Febes- in the "search" box on FB search for mumsnetters due in may 2009, and click on this when it appears

Not sure if there is an easy way to bookmark it- i just start typing it again when i want to go in,

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 29/03/2009 21:55

Frazz

With DD2, we used to pop her in her baby sleeping bag and shove her 'noo-noo' in. The minute that bag was zipped up and the plug was in, she would start doing the tired 'slidey eyes' and would be asleep in moments. It worked like a charm!

LoobyLou36 · 29/03/2009 21:55

how do I join the group on fb? sorry to be dum I'm not very technically minded

Febes · 29/03/2009 21:56

don't worry I found you all

frazzledoldbag · 29/03/2009 21:59

grumpy giggling at your DD's 'slidey eyes'. Amazing what a dummy can do! Big fans of baby sleeping bags in this house too, must get some that aren't pink with fairies on tho!

detsy · 29/03/2009 21:59

Hello all - sorry not been on for a few days and just caught up with all the chat. Think the FB thing is great and have requested to join! I'm not bothered about confidentiality and will happily be abyone's friend so pls feel free to ask away (but i'm not on there yet as only just mailed llare)

Spangle how weird with your plug, I had something v similar which I assumed was "plug" but no streaks of blood in it. (Had quite abit in my okug with Lotti) Then I thought it was all going to happen as being really squiffy/sickly with lots of BH but of course just worrying over nothing as Pip is still installed where he should be! Glad cds arrived safely albeit in the PO

frazz hello girl, not seen you on here for ages, hope all is ok with you?

Dummies - yes I used one from day 2 with Lotti and she still has hers now to sleep (bit of a pain as she loses it in the night and shouts for us to find it!!) or when she is grumpy, upset. Have a stock of little blue ones at the ready in case Pip is a comfort suckler as well!

Pula right tried to start the weaning off Bok boks this weekend and has been a bit hit and miss but think we might be getting there!! She went to bed with cows milk in a trainer beaker tonight - normally she would insist on formula in a bottle!!

Think mate has just arrived from airport as staying a few days so will have to go but catch up sometime tomo
xx

runningmonkey · 29/03/2009 21:59

tum yes have been watching and blubbing

LoobyLou36 · 29/03/2009 22:06

found the group - yay!

Febes · 29/03/2009 22:07

Its fun seeing some of you in real life photos!! I'm off to bed now night

flippineck · 29/03/2009 22:11

Evening all! So much to cathc up on as usual.

llareggub - I'm emailed you about the FB group. Happy to keep it secret. I don't do loads on FB but would be interesting to 'meet' people.

DD was a sucky baby in the evenings/nights ttoo, we tried a dummy a couple of times but she just would not have it. Guess she knew what she wanted! I found it hard going, but actually I'm pleased that it worked out the way it did.

I'm shattered, we've had a busy weekend. It was DD's 2nd birthday yesterday, we didn't have a party but took her to the aquarium in London and went out for lunch - we ended up being out 10 hours yesterday! That, and the clocks changing have messed up her sleep a bit, so this evening was challenging. We finally gotround to getting the baby stuff out of the loft, I cried when we unpacked the newborn stuff! It just seems so small...

frazzledoldbag · 29/03/2009 22:13

Hiya detsy was wondering where you'd got to. Will catch up you on FB soon I hope! Now you can see what I look like (er, how exciting for you!) and I do think Lottie has a similar mischievious look to my littlest one. Night night x

Tummum · 29/03/2009 22:13

Right, after blubbing at secret millionaire I'm off to bed because I'm feeling all dizzy and knackered after today Hope everyone has a lovely week.

LoobyLou36 · 29/03/2009 22:32

Right night all I'm off to bed x

Belgianchocolates · 29/03/2009 22:38

Re dummies and cot death. I think the reason they're recommended is that they remind baby to breathe because of the sucking. Bear in mind though, that the leaflet doesn't say that your baby is actually at higher risk if for some reason it doesn't have it's dummy when it is used to having one. As for my own babies. Neither of them were sucky + I had that weird jealousy feeling, so I never really needed them. Seems like I am the only one who has ever been jealous of a dummy! I never expected to feel like that when I popped the thing in my ds's mouth. They do say I'm not quite normal .

Woohoo, I've become a member of the secret club too now. I've never been part of a secret club before, exciting!

Momino was it you who said that you feel more and more of a foreigner whenever you go back to the US. I've got the same thing with Belgium. I haven't lived there in 12 years and things move, dissapear, all banks have changed their name, most of the supermarket chains and most confusingly, the currency is now the Euro.

I've been wondering what's happening with Polony. She hasn't been on here in a while.

OP posts:
Momino · 29/03/2009 23:03

hi, just went on f/book and lovely to see all of you!

belgian, yes it was me who said I felt more foreign each time I go back home to visit. this is my 12th year away.

about Polony: you're right, she's not been on here for a bit. hope she's ok.

I just have about a half hour's work to do then quitting for the next 9 months (at least). can't wait.

Jennster · 29/03/2009 23:22

Phew that took ages to catch up. Not been on for a while as mn wouldn't load for me.

Sophietom Yes! Do you think we've met?

pants Still have the scratchy disposables from pg1 unopened

dummies Always against them until I got desperate one day with dd and she wouldn't take it. Secretly pleased though at the time. Ds found his thumb early and that was brilliant, but you can't take a thumb away at 2 like you can a dummy.....

Hope everybody doing ok. No idea how to join the secret group, but wouldn't mind joining.

SpangleMaker · 29/03/2009 23:37

llareggub just sent you an email from my FB account email & my RL name. I'm the one in the West Mids network.

Looking forward to 'meeting' you all on FB.

Momino hopefully you've finished your work now and are 'off' (DH's term) for 9 months

Momino · 30/03/2009 00:29

i know you're all in bed but I just wanted to proclaim I'm finished and now on maternity leave, hurrah! I've stuffed my last antenatal booking pack, emailed my timesheet to my nct boss, handover notes to cover and am going to sleep.

early wake up - kitchen fitters here for 730am! just doesn't stop in this house. but am happy to get a kitchen as ours was ancient (1980s) so will nap later in the day.

hope you're all having sweet dreams, i'm soon to join.

Blottedcopybook · 30/03/2009 08:34

Morning! Is it just me, or are other areas of MN slightly less happy and shiny than our wee group? Not sure if I'm being oversensitive or particularly nippy but I seen to be getting into an argument with someone because I want to know where DD picked impetigo up from.

Had her at the emergency Doctor last night, poor sausage. I assumed her eczema was just flaring up but she's got impetigo and needs a course of antibiotics to clear it. Every Monday! She only goes to nursery on a Monday and every Monday she's ill. Ah well.
