Hope everyone's feeling better

We now have 2 sick kids and another refusing to sleep . Dh had a food poisoning scare last night, which kept us both up until midnight (nothing to do with me thankfully) and still don't fully understand why I couldn't go to bed
LO finally stopping crying at 5am, 2 older ones got up at 7am.

Might not be on here much today, too tired...

LaSparklyTourEiffel · 17/12/2008 08:19

Oh, that was weird - the last post I had showing up was at 18.58 last night even though I refreshed, then when I posted, all the extra messages popped up

2bgs - sounds like a classic case of pregnancy hormones, I hate those dreams that stay with you after you wake...I generally find the feeling only shakes off if I talk to DH, who normally laughs at me but sometimes will give a reassuring hug too

Kay, you are making fab progress, so proud of you! Don't push yourself too hard with the expressing will you? Its hard work at the best of times but glad its giving you some time to spend with DS1 too

kayzr · 17/12/2008 08:33

Morning,

Sorky, sorry you have had a bad night. Hope the kids get better soon and that you might be able to get a nap at some point.

2bgs, Sorry about your dream. Put it down to being pregnant. I have had some really strange ones while pregnant and loads that feel really real too.

LaTour, don't do too much will you. I do know exactly how you feel though. I want to be out and about. Especially as DH has 4 weeks off work, I want to be out going for walks and taking DS1 to the park etc. But DH says I must take it easy.

I can not for love nor money get DS2 to latch on today. He keeps going to feed and then pushes my breast out of his mouth. Then he cries and we try again and he just pushes it away again. I have a feeling it will be one of those days.

I have Diege on my Facebook, I might send her a message on there so it will e-mail her. Will let you know if I hear anything.

Hope you all have good days.

Cosmogirl · 17/12/2008 08:40

Morning all,

Good to see you about Kayz and glad you are trying to take things easy. Must be such a huge adjustment going on in your life right now, so don't be too hard on yourself.

Diege - hope you are ok too and just keeping busy now that the sickness is improving.

Had some very horrid dreams last night too that felt really real. Don't like this preg dream business much....

Looking forward to the weekend, then only one and half more days of work until 12 days off. Can't wait!!

NJ - glad you know where you stand with things now and great news about the little chap turning around. Mine is still breech, she keeps kicking my cervix which is a very odd sensation.

Hi everyone else!

LaSparklyTourEiffel · 17/12/2008 08:56

Oh Sorky that sounds awful... perfectly entitled to some 'me, me, me' time after what sounds like a shocking night!

Hope you manage to get some kind of rest today, maybe the kids will watch some telly to give you a break?

DS didn't have a great night, but no where near what you've been through. He woke at about 10.30, just as we were going to bed, and just cried. Its always so hard for me to deal with because he cries so rarely, I tend to get a bit flustered He settled by about 11.45 in bed with us, he insisted on having my arm wrapped around his legs, holding his feet, funny little boy.

Now, I got distracted by gmtv so this has taken me ages to type... wonder how many x-posts....

He's woken

LaSparklyTourEiffel · 17/12/2008 09:01

He's woken? Not sure what that's doing there...

Maybe I should just go back to bed!

tinkisabigpinksparklybauble · 17/12/2008 09:15

morning

have decided to not buy cot bedding think will look better if new baby has yellow theme in cot goes with dds green walls and dont want too many butterfly things think it will be abit much.
will wait till new baby is in dds cot bed and then will get new bedding.
not ordering anything off of vertbaudet till i have paid off the £40 in jan that i owe on my account.
what do you ladies think is it better to have dds room all butterfly and then babys cot with yellow sheet with mice on and yellow blankets etc.

nat - sorry for sister problems
kay - take carex
sorky - sorry for bad night
cosmo and 2bgs sorry for mean dreams.

dd is doing ok with chicken pox doesnt seem to be too itchy finally slept through last night all night for first time in a few night. dh is still off is feeling abit better than yesterday.
tom have midwife for 36 week check looking forward 2 it havent seen her for 5 weeks. see which way this one is
he is going in for a half day tom as i cant take dd out of the house

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 17/12/2008 09:32

Morning

Sorky sorry for crappy night, they can't just do it one at a time can they?! Hope you manage to get some rest today

Tink, it seems a shame not use the mouse sheets, and it may well help DD1 to see the 'difference'. Glad DD is feeling better, and that DH is on the mend, there are so many poorly people about at the moment, you'd have thought the big freeze we've had would have killed off a lot of the bugs.

LaTour, echoing everyone, just be careful and don't do too much too soon.

Thanks for the sister bashing I am over it now, I was just so het up about it last night, I still cannot believe she has the front to say or do anything, even if she is pissed off, so bloody selfish, OK, maybe I'm not quite over it!! LOL

Kay, he'll get the latch thing, if your milk is coming in I guess your boobs might be a bit full? You could try expressing a bit off before letting him latch on, sometimes it is just too hard for them. It is one of the annoying things about BF, it is always so 'natural' and 'easy', until you're doing it and it isn't so natural and easy. He'll get there, time and patience, and lots of tea and chocolate for you

I didn't sleep very well last night either, kept dreaming he was born and rushed off to special care and we hadn't even seen him etc. then another dream that the room suddenly filled with doctors and they were sticking tubes in him and doing CPR and breathing stuff... it is amazing how your dreams show you things you hadn't let yourself think about. I suppose it is your minds way of sorting through it.

Have the HV coming today for DS2's 2 year check thing, waste of bloody time and energy if you ask me! If we thought there was any problem/s we'd have gone to her.

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 17/12/2008 09:47

Morning everyone... sorry to hear of all the bugs, bad nights etc... luckily i think DD is over the conjunctivitis... no-one else got it fortunatley!! And hopefully thats us done and dusted on bugs till the new year!!

I need to wrap DS's bday presents for sunday... he saw one of the presents becasue DH put the bag the wrong way round on top of the wardrobe and when Ds came in the next morning he saw the end of the 'Piranah Panic' box, had to tell him we were looking after it for another little boy... i think he believed me as he's never mentioned it since!!

DS is having his xmas party today at nursery, went there all exited today!!

I'm stuck fo inspiration for what to type......

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 17/12/2008 10:17

Hello everyone

Sorky sorry for bad night
Kay- hope the BF improves as today goes on..
Latour- your DS always sounds so lovely when you describe him.. Bless him wanting his feet held..

Hi everyone else- seems it was bad nights all round last night.. no kids to disturb me but heartburn decided to kick in big time last night. Couldnt lie down all night without ending up with a mouth full of acid (sorry, tmi!) In the end I took some zantac (close your ears Ses!) but takes so long to work it wasnt til 4am that I could lie down and sleep...

Need some new tactics to avoid it since last night was unbearable...actually makes me want to avoid eating altogether..

LBOT- hope you are still smiling

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 17/12/2008 10:18

Glask- hope your DS enjoys the party..

In office today so will be away at meetings rather than MNingworking hard at my desk all day....

sorkycake · 17/12/2008 10:31

we're having a telly day.

That said Dd is writing out Christmas cards and Ds1 has just done his work for the day on EducationCity so I don't feel too bad.

LO is snotty and crying again, might resort to some Calpol. I do hate giving them it, but my needs must.

I'm off to shop online, the only thing that will cheer me up I fear

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 17/12/2008 10:38

HV been and gone, as I thought complete waste of her time. And I hate the way people talk to kids "C'mon George, thread this onto here" You've just given him some crayons and a blank piece of paper, you think he is really going to stop eating the crayon and screwing the paper up to thread a sodding bead on a string?

Glad DD is better Glask Good cover story, I am useless at them, DS1 see's straight through me, I don't know how many pressies I'd bought DS2 for xmas, that ended up having to be bday pressies instead because DS1 had seen them, and the only excuse I could think of was that it was for DS2's bday!

Sorky, I am with you with the Calpol, but there is no getting away from the magical stuff at times.

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 17/12/2008 11:03

sorky- i'm the same with calpol- only in extreme circumstances does it get used in this house!!

GYo- i find if i stay away from drinks after i've eaten tea it really helps me.... and if it is bad i take a rennie chew before bed and that'll ease it fast enough, then i can dose off!!

Sorky- i'm also shopping online again- DH is gonna kill me when he finds out how much i've spent oh well... good job its xmas... wont need to spend any money for a few weeks as kids will have more than enough to entertain them at home!!

OP posts:
sorkycake · 17/12/2008 11:16

Right they're all dosed. I read somewhere that there is a link to giving Calpol in the first year and asthma, so have been very reluctant to use it unless they have a fever.
Ses might know more about that. I know my sister's kids get it quite often

It's done something because they have stopped moaning and are munching their way through a punnet of grapes

Have just paid for my pool hire, the relief is immense. I absolutely hate oweing people money.

I'm after some new bedding, where do you all buy it? My budget won't stretch to House of Fraser this time of year sadly....

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 17/12/2008 11:18

My mum!!.... well i've asked her for a new bedding set for xmas as we've re-decorated but couldn't stretch to new bedding aswell yet!!

OP posts:
glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 17/12/2008 11:19

she's buying us a set from argos... will have a quick search... make sure everyone approves!!

OP posts:
GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 17/12/2008 11:19

Sorky- know you've said it before, but pls can you remind me who you are hiring pool from?

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 17/12/2008 11:22

this is the one we chose!! i can't wait to get it!!

OP posts:
sorkycake · 17/12/2008 11:27

Ooh excellent thanks. I quite like plain white with maybe small embellishments or inconspicuous prints

Gyo I hire a heated and filtered pool from The Beautiful birth Centre

This is the best offer I've ever seen tbh Gyo. I'll be using the pool for weight relief from 37 weeks, for the whole birth and then Dh is going to clean it out and I'm going to try it for the after-pains too.

The free tens is a new thing too, I'm going to try that for any pre-labour/early labour I think.

You can buy inflatable pools for less and resell, but they won't be as big and I'm always a bit worried about soft sides. They won't be temperature regulated either, which was our biggest concern.

Ooh, I can't wait.....

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 17/12/2008 11:35

Wow thats a good price Sorky- thanks.

Do you put it on carpet? (I've asked this before too... memory like sieve! )

Love the idea of using it beforehand for wt relief. Even if I ended up transfering to hosp it would be great to have in the run up to labour...

sorkycake · 17/12/2008 11:40

We have a rug in the playroom which is 200cm squared. We bring this into our lounge and cover it with decorators sheets (the clear plastic £2 ones from B&Q), then put the pool on top.

Placing a rug underneath means I can kneel if I want to without hurting my knees as we have hard wood floors.
If it's going on carpet then obviously that's not an issue.

The plug point is in the corner of the room so we put the pool as far in as possible with the heater right in the corner. This leaves about 3/4 of the pool sides available for the m/w and means I'm not restricted to staying at one end for them.

We don't prepare the room in any other way tbh.

kayzr · 17/12/2008 11:48

Argh!!

We had a different MW today. She was lovely but seemed to contridict(sp) the MW we've had for the past few days.

She said that unless we really want too not to give DS2 EBM, she said that it does confuse some babies until they are a bit older. She said that I should really only express if one breast leaks when he is feeding off the other one as it will probably make me produce more milk than he needs. Which will then make them more engorged and painful.

Why do so many people make BF look so bloody easy?

Hope you are ok.

lastboxoftampons · 17/12/2008 11:53

Hello all:

Think I've caught up as best as I'm going to at this point!

Sorky so sorry for the horrible night. I don't know how you cope, really! I'd be tearing my hair out. Here's hoping you get some time to rest today and that all your little men (that includes your DH!) and lady are feeling better!

Kay Well done on the feeding front! I obviously have no experience - and therefore no advice! - here but it sounds like you're doing brilliantly! and by the way, I think 20 months is a great gap! Me and my brother are 21 months apart.

Nat Your sister sounds like hard work! It makes me angry when there's one person in a family who thinks they're more important than everyone else! And there's always one! Your poor mom! Sounds a bit like mine. My brother has 3 kids and lives 2 blocks away from my parents. My mother is always watching the kids or helping out in one way or another - the thing is she absolutely loves it! But I can see her getting pulled in different directions already (especially with my Nan) and I know it's hard for her. Also, my nephew was the first and definitely feels he deserves the lion's share of attention. He's only 4 so it's hard to explain to him that Grandma can't always be there for him and him alone. But the fact that your sister is using her children to manipulate your mom is just really, really wrong and very sad, actually. I hope your mom can stand up to her and I know that she won't be sacrificing her relationship with her grandchildren. In the end, your sister needs your mom more than she needs her, so your mother definitely has the upper hand!

Latour Glad to hear you're feeling better! and your DS sounds like a little sweetie!

GYO Our second room, which will be the baby's room/office/guest bedroom (and it isn't even that big!) is a pale blue by Dulux (one of the mixed shades of Night something that you find on the cards in B&Q) We painted it long before Nugget was even a glimmer on our horizon, but I think it's a fab color for either a boy or a girl - really calming.

Glask I'm still laughing about you stepping in a puddle with your slippers on! Poor you!

2BG so sorry about the scary dreams. Definitely pregnancy related. I've dreamt alternately about Daniel Craig and Hugh Jackman over the past 7 weeks DH is starting to worry! Hope your DH made it up to you!

Whew...I think that's as much as I can remember for now! Now that I've got my head around being pregnant (even though I'm still very cautious!) I swear I'm showing! Not that anyone would notice, but my trousers are feeling uncomfortable and I just generally don't feel like myself. Today I managed to find an old pair of stretchy velvet trousers with an elastic waist and have put over it a sweater dress with an empire bustline. I'm so comfy, but I feel like I look like I'm trying to look pregnant, if that makes any sense! And no one knows at the moment, so I totally feel like a fraud. Oh, well, it's comfy! Trying to decide what to wear to MIL's for Christmas holidays so as to not look like I'm getting a bump - she will definitely disapprove if I'm showing early! And will say so Definitely not looking forward to telling her our news, but have to I suppose I do think telling DH's dad will be brilliant though, he'll be really pleased!

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 17/12/2008 11:54

ooh lovely... will measure up tonight to see if it fits.
