Don't worry Nutty, I'm not in the slightest bit annoyed! I have a thicker skin than that Unless I'm all weepy & hormonal, in which case you lot are usually the first to know anyway & they're all beautiful names! What kind of surname do you have? Like DP's begins with M & is 2 syllables - have to make sure that everything fits well! My full first name is 3 syllables, as is my surname. When we used to do the 'clap out your name' thing at school, I was always the last one left, with my 6 (or 8, counting middle name) claps

I really like Teo, but I'm not sold on Karahan either. There's not really anything wrong with it, but I know what you mean... What would you call him for short?

BabyBolat · 25/11/2008 16:31

It also sounds a bit like caravan but he has his heart set on it!

Don't worry I am working on it.

SpringySunshine · 25/11/2008 16:32

Yeah, I thought it sounded a bit like Karen - with sort of a half-cough in the middle. Like when people 'discreetly' cough words.

SpringySunshine · 25/11/2008 16:33

Pfft, caravan Bless. You do have to think how kids would see it, too.

BabyBolat · 25/11/2008 16:34

Nothing! that is my point - there are no cute names to shorten it too! Teo is a shortened version of a longer name but to be fair I don't think either will be the final one! We have come along way tho - first name he liked was KABGAN (like taxi in a can!) and then Fahrti which has been discussed before obviously so we are heading the right way!!

LuLuBai · 25/11/2008 16:35

Gosh - DD and I popped out to feed the ducks and come back to find you all already on page 2 of the new thread! Go girls!

SpringySunshine · 25/11/2008 16:36

Men, eh? What would they do without us to prod them in the right direction?

BabyBolat · 25/11/2008 16:36

Thank you Springy that is my point - they might be really respected names in Turkey but they also have to work in England too!!

LuLuBai · 25/11/2008 16:36

Teo is a great name by the way. Lovely.

BabyBolat · 25/11/2008 16:38

Well I like it but we are butting heads on boys names at the minute so think he is rejecting it on principle because I am not so sure on caraven I mean Karahan

LuLuBai · 25/11/2008 16:42

nightmare isn't it.

I got lucky last time as DH was so convinced we were having a boy he didn't even contemplate girl's names. So when she was born he just accepted my choice (and I let him choose the middle name from a carefully pre-selected list).

This time he is taking a much greater interest. He really likes Cecil for a boy

BabyBolat · 25/11/2008 16:44

I don't hate Cecil but it wouldn't be my first choice - what's your favourite name (if you want to share)

DH loves that but I can't with the lion thing!

LuLuBai · 25/11/2008 16:49

I don't really have a favourite boys name but he has vetoed pretty much anything I like on spurious grounds (went to pre-school with someone with that name and he was a tw*t, cousin's next door neighbour's dog has that name and he smells etc etc etc).

There are constraints in that I want a name that works in Spanish and English. DD has a very Spanish name so the next child needs a name that works with hers.

The only two that are left in the pot that we both sort of like (but I don't love in the same way that I LOVE DD's name) are Julian and Gabriel.

For girl's I like Marisa and Maya at the moment but he's vetoed both already.

LuLuBai · 25/11/2008 16:51

I think Aslam is kind of cool. Although I'm not sure I would dare use it myself, but with a turkish surname....

Isn't Adam used in Turkey too. That would be easy.

LuLuBai · 25/11/2008 16:52

Sorry Aslan - cannot type (fingers got very very cold by the duck pond and not thawed yet)

SpringySunshine · 25/11/2008 16:52

I really like Maya.

I just remembered this post from a blog that I read.

Seem familiar?

i've already posted my short list for boys on the names threads so wont repeat it but will be scottishy probably.

ds is Struan

LuLuBai · 25/11/2008 16:55

Oh that's funny Springy. I like Esme (Esmee?) too but I think as a middle name (Ines is also on my middle name list - haven't run it past DH yet, but bound to get vetoed).

Maya is vetoed cos DH's school friend has a DD called Mia and apparently it is too similar. Gaaaaaaaaaaah!

I think Maya is lovely (and Marisa is also nice). I also really like Gabriel. That blog is exactly why I won't tell my friends and family the names we like (especially girl) as if I hear all that it will make me doubt it!!!
