Well, I hope a lot more of us can manage to have our babies in THIS thread, even if we will probably talk our way through it well before the end of the month!

CilC · 10/07/2008 12:40

I use witch hazel as a skin toner...is that what you mean?

Please do not shoot me - but as I have been the only one not wanting LO to arrive it seems I have now started having contractions so it is off to the hospital for me! DH on way home.

A bit frightened, so wanted my calm, organised c section on the 14th. It may be a false alarm but as I am unsuitable for vaginal delivery I have to go in.

So ciao for now!

Libra1975 · 10/07/2008 12:43

No I remember someone/somepeople recommmending witch hazel on here for after birth and I said as much at my NCT tea yesterday and then couldn't remember why, which is a bit useless as I have some in my bag.

Also can I put Clary Sage in a bath? I am 39+2.

Good Luck CilC.

pigleychez · 10/07/2008 12:45

Ohh Clic how exciting.

Keep us updated

bebejones · 10/07/2008 12:56

Think someone said put witch hazel on maternity pad afterwards to help with healing and stitches, also seem to remember someone saying to keep it in fridge so it is cooling and soothing!! But maybe I am wrong...don't have any experience here!!

DonutMum · 10/07/2008 13:21

Hi All, fed up fed up fed up.

Re the clary sage question, I was going to put some in the bath/oil/vapouriser, that or jasmine. Can I do that? Need lo to turn up now or I'll cry!

CilC · 10/07/2008 13:31

DH still not home yet - caught in traffic with the Hampton COurt Flower show on. Hmmmm hate waiting...

I would have thought witch hazel would sting a bit.

Jasmine and clary sage are the two herbs my reflexologist uses after 39 weeks. She did not use on me though as I was not wanting LO to come. Infact I have done nothing...no marital affairs, no raspberry leaf tea, no curries, no pineapple...

Feeling very peeeed off - my waxing and facial day is tomorrow...eeeek may have to get shaved!!! All I can say - is if you need it done get it done now.

Off to calm down. Have called everyone and think I might go and lie down until DH gets here.

min912 · 10/07/2008 13:33

I thought witch hazel on cotton wool was good for your sore bits and/or piles? Not that I'm obsessed by the latter or anything!

I think the problem with due dates is that they assume so much - 1. that you have a 28-day cycle 2. that you ovulate on day 14 of same 3. that there is such a thing as a set amount of time to be pregnant 4. they don't take into account other factors and finally 5. no-one exactly knows what makes a baby decide it's ready to come out!
Still, not going to stop me focusing on my EDD as the day sloooooowly approaches!

Can't remember the maths but I think if you have a longer than 28-day cycle and ovulate later than day 14 then that adds on a bit of time? Perhaps in the future our daughters/grandchildren will find this idea of not knowing exactly when the baby is due really quaint...

min912 · 10/07/2008 13:38

My bad - longer cycle means later due date, later ovulating means shorter. Here's a link, I think 'luteal cycle' is the day you ovulate...

sweetkitty · 10/07/2008 13:49

CliC - hope it's a false alarm for you

libra1975 - I wasn't impressed with the Clary Sage oil, I used about 10 drops in the bath, put it in oil and rubbed it in my bump and my reflexology points on my feet, think you can put it in a burner too, it stinks as well I've got some lavender and ylang ylang instead although it's not supposed to have the labour indusing properties of clary sage, whats the betting my Monday I have bought some

Minnie - your on lets have a baby each today

AggiePanther · 10/07/2008 14:32

CilC - good luck

Re witchhazel - straight from the fridge on your maternity pad is soothing iirc

bebejones · 10/07/2008 15:18

It's very quiet here today...is everyone off having babies? Good Luck to all those in labour or with niggles!!

Really bored, after having 2 really bad nights in a row have decided not to have my usual nap this afternoon to try and knacker myself out in an effort to get more than 4 hours kip tonight!! If it doesn't work I expect I will be asleep ALL day 2moro!!

gillythekid · 10/07/2008 15:19

Good luckCilC hope all is well.
I've lost track of who went in to hospital! I looked at the pool in the mothers suite whilst at physio today, bit 'medical' looking for me but I'll see how the rotten old pelvis bears up at the time. Due on Monday, will be happy to have this LO right now though, watching lots of films to keep me from obsessing, off to spend the afternoon with Doris Day!

pigleychez · 10/07/2008 15:44

Hello all,

Just back from the MW. Saw my usual MW and a lovely student midwife, who both had a good old prod at my " lovely neat bump".
Babys head is well down and ready to go in the right position.

Typically BP up again, so off to the hospital again for me at 10.30 tomorow for more monitoring.
Student MW has said she thinks my BP has shot up higher as im about to go into labour and when i get there tomorow to be monitored they are going to say im in early labour Normal MW nodded and almost agreed! Said shes seen it before.
Joked about seeing me at home on Monday with the baby!

Now also have a Post dates appointment booked for Next thursday just in case it hasnt happened by then to go in for a sweep.

Hope everyone else is well and we hear of some new babies soon.

Drat forgot to add Baby Mcchesers onto the babies list then lost my bold oh well I'm sure theres going to be more announcements very shortly.

Who have we not heard from recently?

libralady · 10/07/2008 16:47

Bloody Hell, a windows update didn't agree with my router so my PC has been down since Tuesday night so I'm just off to catch up with all the news.

BTW, Luke has his procedure tomorrow afternoon at Odstock. The NHS can be quick sometimes!!!!! They wanted me up there yesterday after they called me at 9:45, but with childcare for DS1 it was not practical.

Right off to catch up with 2 days worth of posts NOW!!!!!!

excitedfornumber2 · 10/07/2008 16:54

Hello All

Not posted for a while, but wanted to let you all now i gave birth to my lovely little boy on 3rd July at 10.57am after a very quick and straight forward labour. We have called him Declan Mark and he weighed 7lb 7oz, (which was fantastic especially as they were expecting him to be over 9lb!!!!). Unforunately he did not take to bf at all well and we ended up being admitted to hospital on sat as he was not feeding and sleeping too much, and had lost nearly 10oz in the 2 days. We are now home and getting used to live as a family of 4, good luck to all those who are still to deliver.
Take Care x

gillythekid · 10/07/2008 17:16

Many congratulations excitedfornumber2 I hope baby Declan is making up the lost weight steadily.

libralady · 10/07/2008 17:20

Congratulations to McChesers & excitedfornumber2 SK sympathies for the false alarms and to those others with the same feelings.

Minkus · 10/07/2008 17:36

Ah well done McChesers and excitedfornumber2! These babies are coming thick and fast now.

For all you experienced mums out there, can you tell me how long your "baby blues" bit lasted? I think I was a bit teary with ds1 for about a day but it seems to have hit me harder this time. Anything and everything is setting me off. DH is off out tonight with his best buddies to wet the babies' head and the thought of having the four of them (inclding my lovely FIL whom I adore) in the house even for half an hour before they go out is making me cry. And I have known these men for 12 years and our families do lots together so they are like my best friends too. What is wrong with me? All I want to do is cuddle up with my new baby and dh, to the exclusion even of ds1 . Hope it doesn't last long

EEC · 10/07/2008 17:44

Ahh Minkus. I'm sure it won't last long but it's so natural to be feeling like that. Those hormones are up and down and everyone is different. With DS I have to say I was moody and tearful for weeks, but with DD hardly at all, so I really don't think there is a norm. Just try not to let yourself worry or feel bad about your feelings. Thinking of you.

Congrats excitedfornumber2.

Goodluck CilC. Hang in there!

min912 · 10/07/2008 18:54

Evening... am having a little pity party for myself tonight I'm afraid, DH came home and said that 'for the forseeable future' he would be working at a branch which is further away and I just started crying. I feel so selfish but I'm having one of those days where nothing is actually bad/wrong/painful, it just all seems such bloomin' hard work and something as small as him leaving 20mins earlier and getting home 20mins later seems huge right now. I guess he could take some holiday now but it seems a shame not to use it when the baby is actually here instead!

Ah well, perhaps this means the hormone levels are so elevated that things will be sooner rather than later! Don't think I could cope with going to 42 weeks.

Congrats excitedfornumber2, hope it all will be ok clic (despite thoroughly trouncing me at scrabulous!!) and pigley

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 10/07/2008 19:37

Congratulations excitedfornumber2!

ponto · 10/07/2008 20:12

Congratulations McChesers and excitedfornumber2! Big sympathy to all other overdue mummies. I am very fed up. Midwife did stretch and sweep this morning, said the cervix felt soft and was opening up but I have not had any sign of labour since then. She advised sex tonight might encourage things along too - dh is going to be very happy!

Can't remember who was worried about having a stretch and sweep, but I'd say go for it, it is uncomfortable but not even as bad as a single proper contraction, which is what you're aiming for anyway! And there is some scientific evidence that it works, which there isn't for some of the 'traditional' methods.

Really hoping that it all kicks off tonight now, though have arranged to see a friend on Saturday who I haven't seen for 6 years - I'm hoping Sod's law will work in my favour and I will have to miss seeing her again because I've just given birth
