Well, I hope a lot more of us can manage to have our babies in THIS thread, even if we will probably talk our way through it well before the end of the month!

minipinkscottish · 29/07/2008 15:14

Congrats Fenlondon

min912 · 29/07/2008 17:33

Congrats Fenlondon and Catec!!

Well yesterday's stretch and sweep kind of did the trick... except it turns out that it's quite common for it to make labour both longer and slower. (No-one said!!) Great!! So I am currently sitting here half-dressed with the tens machine on a mere 24 hrs after things first starting, gaahhhh... and they seem to have slowed down considerably.

The doula has gone back home, no point calling the midwife. At least now I am not falling asleep between contractions (probably because I'm hardly having any) but a) evil midwife is now on call for tonight and b) I'm BORED!!!!!

Lots of bloody show, have had some 90s contractions but now... nada. Suggestions??

minipinkscottish · 29/07/2008 20:35

Lots of nipple stimulation - it works xx good luck xx

isaidno · 29/07/2008 21:43

min - hope you're getting somewhere by now - waiting for a birth announcement x

ButterflyMcQueen · 29/07/2008 21:47

catec congratulations she is a beauty - you are very pretty !

CilC · 29/07/2008 22:29

Oh Min you must be feeling pretty shattered! I can only suggest you demand an elective c section now... have never actually gone into labour myself! Probably not the advice you are after though!

Best of luck! I do hope something happens very soon!!!!

bebejones · 30/07/2008 08:49

I don't want to be pregnant anymore!!! [Wailing emoticon] Due 2moro, but finding things very hard going, moving is almost impossible due to dreaded SPD and have been having crampy twinges for 2 days but no sign of anything! Please God don't let me go 2 weeks over!!!!! Congrats to all who have popped, am very !!! Haven't slept properly since Sunday so feel knackered just want LO to hurry up! Got MW appointment today...am hoping it will be my last!!

isaidno · 30/07/2008 09:05

poor you bebejones; it will end soon, honest!

purplejennyrose · 30/07/2008 09:22

oh bebejones, poor you, it's horrid - really hoping things happen for you soon! good luck!

min912 · 30/07/2008 10:38

Still here... contractions slowed down to about one an hour last night so got some rest, then picked up around midnight, about every 5mins at 5am - great, here we go I thought - called the doula back out, threw up, all systems go... until they slowed right back down again . So once again the doula has gone!
Apparently the third night's the charm... yikes.
And it's our wedding anniversary (3rd)! And we're stuck indoors watching me not do very much... ah well. At least it will be one to remember!

gillythekid · 30/07/2008 11:50

Good luck to you min and hoping it's a close second for bebejones. Hope all are doing well. x

Poledra · 30/07/2008 23:41

OK, Orlaith asleep on my chest, other 2 dds in bed, DH in pub (and yes, we have changed the spelling of her name - DH decided he preferred the proper Irish spelling and I was happy to go along with this).

So, DH and I toddled off into hospital at 14:30 on Thurs 17th as directed. Got there, when finally examined had not changed from sweep on the Tues (1cm favourable cervix) so they tried to break my waters, which was interesting - took 2 mws about 30 mins but they suceeded in the end. After I'd flooded the place out (or so it seemed) DH and I were sent off for a walk, something to eat etc. Came back afer 2 hours, on monitor, some minor contractions but nothing exciting. DH and I played cards for another 2 hours (and I whupped his sorry ass, which I thought was pretty good for a woman in early labour) then the obs came in and said they felt that I'd had long enough (4.5 hrs) to get going on my own and they'd like to start up the drip. Would I like an epidural first? The obs and mw were really good - they went through the options then left DH and I alone to decide. As there was still a real possibility that I might end up with another section, (and I am a wimp) we went for the epidural then the drip. So, epi put in, drip started once the epi was working. Then the lovely mw turned off all the lights except one, brought dh a pillow and told us to both get some sleep while the drugs did their work. So we did.

After a couple of peaceful hours, I was really starting to feel the pressure. At about 02.30, the mw examined me and said 'Oh, yes, I can feel the head, you're ready to push.' She was so relaxed and non-interfering IYKWIM that she had not done (or even requested to do) any internal examinations between 2cm dilated and 10cm. Once she got everything ready, I started pushing on her instructions (and she was so not frightened to give DH his orders too ). Everything was just so controlled and calm, it was amazing. Once Orlaith was out as far as her arms, the mw said 'Come on, you catch her now, she's yours' so I reached down and pulled her out the rest of the way and up onto my chest, 29 minutes after I started pushing - it makes me feel a bit teary even now to think of it. DH was given no choice about cutting the cord either. After that, she left us alone with Orlaith to get to know her. Honestly, I am going to write to the hospital in praise of this mw as she turned what could have been a negative experience of being induced into one of the most wonderful experiences of my life.

Things of course went a little pear-shaped 12 hours later, with Orlaith going into SCBU etc. We've been back to the clinic today, and Orlaith's bilirubin levels are still high. I was worried that they were going to keep her in but fortunately they are not that high - we just have to go back again next week to be checked again. They were muttering about whether she was getting enough milk, but honestly, I have the opposite problem - I am leaking like a sieve, and get through at least two tops a day.

Hope everything is going well for everyone else. Sending good vibes to bebejones, min912, Squarah and anyone else still waiting.

minipinkscottish · 31/07/2008 08:05

Fab birth story Poledra - brought a tear to my eye xx

TJuice · 31/07/2008 08:16

wonderful birth, poledra. and congratulations.
beautiful name too (pronounced Orla?)

I also had two brilliant, calm and lovely (very young) midwives and look back on my birth experience as so mellow (the epidural helped too!).

But its amazing how sympathetic healthcare professionals (and a bit of luck) can make such a difference.

pigleychez · 31/07/2008 08:54

Sounds lovely Poledra.

Wish the MW's had told me to have the epidural straight away when they put the drip in... would have saved me hours of painful contractions.
