Well, I hope a lot more of us can manage to have our babies in THIS thread, even if we will probably talk our way through it well before the end of the month!

Wonderful story Poledra - some MW really do get it!
My Rafferty has the same problem with his bilirubin levels - his blood group was different to mine and caused severe jaundice. We had to stay in hsopital for 6 days and he slept in a bilicrib.
I have spent the last week at home feeding him silly and keeping him in the sunshine by the window etc. and he is doing extremely well. The extra feeding helps flush his system.
We are off to Paedeatrician today for another check up. Poor thing had to have a drip and 6 hourly blood taken...

Another day of poo, puke and milking...

bebejones · 31/07/2008 10:54

Due date today!! At last! But still no signs of LO! Having a curry tonight and been drinking the disgusting RLT! Sent mum to tesco for pineapple, but this LO is not playing ball! Oh and to top it off went to have a shower and it is leaking and dripping through the electric box and hallway ceiling!!! Already had it fixed last year after we bought house...really cross, last thing I need, and cannot have shower now til DH comes home as can't climb into bath to use the other one! And am supposed to be meeting him at pub for a friends birthday drinks after work and hair looks like i've been working in a chippy!!

AggiePanther · 31/07/2008 12:09

Hi all
Just popping in to see how everyone is.

Disneystar - how are you doing? Been thinking about you ((hugs))

Bebejones - happy due date to you - hope things kick off soon.
Min - any news?

Still up to my eyes in feeding and changing here. Lovely though

Kaz1967 · 31/07/2008 15:13

Poledra re the leaking I had the same problem and Kezzy was just plain lazy and just did not do much sucking as it just dripped in, so did not get enough and tried out the colour yellow for a while (did not suit her at all) it may be Orlaith is doing something similar.

min912 · 31/07/2008 15:38

Hi all, just a brief message to say that FINALLY after a really rather whopping 52 hrs from first contractions, I gave birth to (very probably) Poppy last night at 9.25!
8lb 5, so far, so mellow.

Birth story to follow when I can remember what happened!!

Good luck to those waiting... see, it does happen. Eventually. (do I win a prize for longest labour??!)

isaidno · 31/07/2008 15:39

congrats min!!!
Poppy is a fab name

mummy2bsoon · 31/07/2008 15:44

minipinkscottish · 31/07/2008 17:06

isaidno · 31/07/2008 18:24

well done mummy2bsoon!

radiohelen · 31/07/2008 18:48

Hey guys..congrats to everyone who has done the deed since I was last on here..July 28th little man appeared! Started labour to the dulcet tones of Sarah Kennedy on hubby's alarm clock....carried on from there until 5.37pm I looked down into the birthing pool and there he was...two things - hypnobirthing rocks! and Gas and Air is a bloomin miracle!
Question for you though. He was a big boy - 8lbs 14 and I've been bf him. He really gets it...trouble is he's feeding ALL the time. We've topped him up with some formula - could it be I'm just not making enough yet...it's only day 3! No hard boobs, no leaking....nothing much at all really...any advice?

morre · 31/07/2008 19:05

Hi guys, sorry to barge in on your tread, I have been reading it for months now but never really posted anything. Just reading it is exciting enough for me.
I was due on Monday, but nothing happened, I have been having these pains in my lower tummy for the past 2 hours at 5 min interval lasting about 20 secs. Are these contractions? I have a 9 year old but can't remember how it felt like!

purplejennyrose · 31/07/2008 20:25

radiohelen - firstly congragtulations! sounds like a lovely birth.
re the bf - try not to give formula - at day 3 your milk may not have come in yet (you'll prob wake up tomorrow with huge rock hard boobs ) so you'll be still making colostrum - which comes in tiny amounts but is all the antibodies etc. Your LO will feed loads - they need to - really tiny tummies, and tiny amounts of colostrum, and also they need to feed lots to stimulate your breasts to start making the milk. If you give formula then they'll stimulate the breasts less which could mean less milk...
Hope I've explained that right and it makes sense!
Both my babies fed continuously night and day for prob the first 5 days (most babies do?!), until the milk is properly there, then you start to get breaks! In theory, if you let them feed whenever they want, you'll make enought milk. Get to know your baby's feeding cues so you know when they are hungry - my Florence is very obvious, savages your finger when she wants food, but if she ignores a finger and quivers her lips then it's not hunger it's tummy ache, It's usually hunger though!
HTH.

isaidno · 31/07/2008 21:00

PJR is right - your milk hasn't come in yet - prob will in next 2 days. Keep feeding as much as baby wants - resist the formula!

Morre - could be labpur - let us know!

gillythekid · 31/07/2008 21:28

Hi morre sounds like it could be it! Mine started like period pains but timing them is good as I think they tend to be quite regular. Good luck! Let us know how it goes?

gillythekid · 31/07/2008 21:29

Congrats and well done to mummy, radiohelen and Min912 (at last!!!)

minipinkscottish · 31/07/2008 21:49

Congrats Radiohelen - well done xx

Agree with PJR re breast feeding xx

Morre - believe me it doesn't matter how long it's been - when you've started you WILL know xx By the way WELCOME - glad you've joined us xx

ponto · 31/07/2008 22:36

Congratulations Radiohelen, mummytobsoon and Min912! Lovely birth story Poledra, glad you had such a positive experience.

Radiohelen, hope your milk comes in soon. I felt just like you on the first day - Bryony sucked all day and my nipples were cracked and starting to bleed by the evening. She was very big (10lb 8oz) and just didn't seem satisfied, so I did give some formula top-ups, which seemed to settle her, though I know that you're not 'meant' to if you want to bf. It did give me enough of a break that I could face trying to feed again after a couple of hours though. I made vast amounts of milk from the end of day 3 and she's now going 3-4 hours between feeds (day 10) and seeming satisfied. Strangely, I didn't have the same problem with dd1 and dd2, even though they were 9lb 13oz and 9lb 15oz.

bebejones · 01/08/2008 08:18

Think I am going to win the booby prize for being the last one to have her baby! Think being due on the last day of July didn't help...the odds were always stacked against me! So will now officially not have a July baby...does that mean I am out of the 'club'?!

pigleychez · 01/08/2008 09:38

oh Bebe....
dont worry! not long now....i have a feeling
I suppose being right at the end of July there was always the possibility of an august baby.
Cause your not out the club.!!!
Just think of all the experience we will have to offer you

Hope your not finding the heat too much.

purplejennyrose · 01/08/2008 09:45

radiohelen - I can recommend slapping on the Lansinoh cream to stop nipples getting too sore from constant feeding! It is great stuff! xx

radiohelen · 01/08/2008 10:37

Thanks guys...purplejennnyrose that lanisoh is amazing stuff.
Still trying, still no hard boobs but now under pressure from hubby and mother to top up.....fighting it valiantly from the corner.
He just sounds so plaintiff when there's nothing there for him....it makes it hard to argue. Esp when you do feed him formula and he turns into this angel child......The guilt is awful..makes me glad I'm not Catholic as well!!! Or maybe I'd be used to it by now and it wouldn't affect me so bad. Right I'm off to embark on Day Four........

bebejones · 01/08/2008 10:45

Pigley, heat isn't too bad here now, monday & tuesday were the worst days but we have had a bit of rain since then!! Off to Slimbridge to look at the birds & for a wander around with my mum in a bit, then a spot of lunch!! Think cake is in order today...the massive curry I had last night had no effect what-so-ever...except that she was wrigglier than I have EVER known her last night...really thought something was going to 'happen', even had what I thought was a contraction just before midnight...but it all came to nothing!

TJuice · 01/08/2008 11:19

radiohelen - my milk didn't come in until day 5 and i was still in the hospital. elodie lost a little too much weight so they recommended three hourly feeds of putting her on the breast first, then topping up by ff with syringe or cup. Then I pumped to stimulate. Within a few days, I had enough EBM to drop the formula and she had learned to latch from putting her on at the beginning of every feed.

I knew the risks involved but I was just worried about her weight and jaundice etc. And when she got the formula for the first time, she turned into this sparkly-eyed calm, beauty.

I second the lanisoh - was putting that on continually and air-drying my nips. Plus I drank about 2 litres of water a day or more (it was v. hot). By day 5, my boobs were dripping!

isaidno · 01/08/2008 11:36

bebejones - we're all waiting for you! You're def still in the July club!
