Well, I hope a lot more of us can manage to have our babies in THIS thread, even if we will probably talk our way through it well before the end of the month!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
AggiePanther · 28/07/2008 08:25

Thanks for all the advice girls - the green poo bothers me less than the fussiness/crying ... it's mostly in the late afternoons and evenings - he's really chilled in the morning. Having just written that I just remembered that DD2 used to feed constantly in the evening too ..amazing how much you forget.
Gilly - sounds like you had a tiring time - good job you had the hypnobirthing to help you through.
Squarah - fingers crossed for you

EEC · 28/07/2008 09:07

No time to read thread - sorry - will catch up later.

Rory arrived at 1.45 on Saturday. 7lb 60z. Perfect!

Very tired but very happy here. Brief story - went for induction on Sat morning - only needed prostaglandin pessary and went from uneffaced unfavourable cervix to baby born in 2 hours! He surprised us all. I nearly had him in the antenatal ward! It was very very fast and very very 'intense'. Got to labour room - they couldn't even examine me -my waters broke and I said 'I need to push' and he was born 20 minutes later after much primieval screeming. No stitches either. Can't believe it!

He is absolutely gorgeous and I am in love.

Didn't feed well for the first day, but seems to have got the hang now - fed all night last night!

Hang in there everyone else! They all do come in the end!

EEC · 28/07/2008 09:12

Ooh yes - no pain relief either as I went through it all on antenatal ward and they thought I wasn't in established labour - even though contractions were coming every minute and I was being very noisy! I did have gas and air during pushing stage, but could hardly use it as contractions were pretty constant and I was completely out of control!

Isn't the pacenta being delivered the wierdest feeling in the world?

AggiePanther · 28/07/2008 09:35

Wow! Congrats EEC

Kaz1967 · 28/07/2008 10:18

pigley re flat nipples try:

  • tweeking your nipples before you feed her sometimes you can bring them out that way
  • go on breast pump for 2-5 mins before putting her on breast again this can bring them out.
  • get some Mexican hats/nipple shields and putting them inside your bra between feeds, you can if need be sterilise them and feed with them BUT most places do not recommend this now as for some women it can cause more problems than it solves but it is worth considering as a last resort.
Kaz1967 · 28/07/2008 10:26

Aggie Kez is fussy and wants to feed all evening it is a very common feeding patten for breast fed babies they sort of stack feeds in the evening. Happens for 2 reasons you are more tired having been up all day so are producing slightly less milk, plus eating more in the evening (Kez likes to munch from about 5-10 when she demands I go to bed too) is you often get a longer gap between feeds over night first because they are more full but also there is a hormone in your milk at night which makes them a little more sleepy.

isaidno · 28/07/2008 11:26

Wow EEC! Well done - was that your first baby?!

Trespass · 28/07/2008 11:57

Congratulations everyone who has had their baby since I was last on.

Harvey was born by c-section on Sun 20th July, 10lb 6oz. He is adorable of course. Only returned home from hosp yest, they like you to have a good rest and learn all there is to know about babies before letting you out! (in france)

Good luck to all the ladies still waiting, try and enjoy the whole experience (my biggest nightmare was a ceserean!) as it's all over so quickly, and it's 'all' so worth it.

AggiePanther · 28/07/2008 12:25

Congrats Trespass!!
Thanks for the advice Kaz

TJuice · 28/07/2008 13:00

congrats trespass and EEC. I love the name Rory (its my brother's name and i think its so cool)

ponto · 28/07/2008 13:22

Congratulations trespass and EEC!

EEC, your labour sounds a lot like mine, very fast and very intense. Are you angry with the midwives that they didn't give you pain relief because they didn't believe you were in established labour? It's ridiculous, in no other area of medicine would pain relief be refused on the grounds that it wasn't the right sort of pain! I am glad you managed to get to the delivery suite for the birth itself.

min912 · 28/07/2008 13:45

Congrats Trespass and EEC! Quite different stories!
Well I am now booked in for an induction next monday which means going in Sunday afternoon - but as I told the midwife, we were planning to have a wedding anniversary (3yrs on wednesday)/meet the new arrival bbq then!! She seemed quite hopeful that it would still happen though.

She managed to sweep as well as stretch this morning - jeepers - last thursday's was bearable but uncomfortable, but today I had to actually ask her to stop it was so intense (apologies to anyone due to have one!!). So let's hope it actually gets things going. Ooooof.....

Good news is, my cervix scores 5/10 as opposed to 1/10 last thursday. Tangible evidence things are definitely going in the right direction!!

LilyToTheB · 28/07/2008 15:08

Congratulations Trespass and EEC!

I'm so jealous! Getting sick of being pregnant now, and this heat is really getting to me, my feet are like balloons!!

I'm 9 days overdus now (although 2 weeks by my original date) so really want this little one to be born now!

Went in for a membrane sweep last Thursday, and the midwife said I was 1-2cm dilated already, didn't think this could happen until in actual labour?? But baby's head still not engaged!
Was hoping it would've started things off over the weekend, but still no sign!

Am booked to go in for an induction on Friday, but really don't want to! Was hoping for a natural home birth and hate the thought of being induced!

Sorry for moan, hope all you overdue ladies are coping ok xxx

catec · 28/07/2008 19:01

Hi all, and congrats Trespass, EEC and anyone else who has had babies since I was last on.

Sorry no time to catch up but just wanted to let you know that Daisy Sarah was born 7pm on Sat (26/7). 7lb 7oz. Delivery a lot tougher than expected but will save the details for later. Have quickly put a pic up as my Facebook profile pic - she is beautiful!

Good luck to overduers hope they come soon!

isaidno · 28/07/2008 19:29

Congrats catec; will look on facebook later x

sweetkitty · 28/07/2008 20:42

congratulations EEC you got there in the end, lovely name Rory too

congratulations to catec too it WAS labour then

Congratulations to trespass as well

Am so needing to update the list now

I actually think I have spent today in a sleepy stupor, had a horrendous nights sleep, Bethany was up 3 times, DD2 once but with the mugginess and worrying about today I ended up having a migraine DD1 has been a horror today as well don't know whether it is her age or she's feeling a bit put out but if I don't look after her constantly she's off doing something she shouldn't. She is worse than 2 1/2 yo DD2.

Have the dreaded HV visit tomorrow

RUMPEL · 28/07/2008 20:52

congrats eec, catec, trespass.

photos finally uploaded.

Congratulations EEC Tresspass and Catec - well done all xx

gillythekid · 29/07/2008 03:01

congrats to EEC, Catec, Likerabbits and any I've missed. Just a quick post whilst doing the night express! Hope everyone still pregnant is coping with the heat and knows that it won't be long now. LilytotheB, despair not! My feet were a nightmare for the last month of my pregnancy and ballooned up after the birth too! Here I am 1 week later with ankles and slim legs again, you'll be back to normal in no time but I empathise, ask whoever you can for a foot rub!

CilC · 29/07/2008 06:12

EEC, Tresspass, Likerabbits and Catec - Congratulations!
Good luck to all those overdue...not long to go! (Yes I know you are all sick of hearing that! But it is true!)

catec · 29/07/2008 13:44

Have a peacefully sleeping baby and have now had a chance to skim through the thread. Congrats Likerabbits, I missed you yesterday.
Pigley, what a difficult delivery you had, I bet you are pleased that is behind you, but what a reward in the end, eh?!

My quick story...
Contractions started 2am ish (although I wasn't sure if they were the real deal since had had exactly the same thing the night before with nothing further) about 10 mins apart, by 4 am I was timing them - that contraction master is brilliant - and they were very regular. Left DP to sleep until they were 5-6 mins apart, when I rang the hospital, they said to leave them until they were 3 mins apart and call back. So I rang back couple of hours later when they were 3 mins apart and they said to call back when were lasting more than a minute. Anyway they got to 1-2 minutes apart about 10am and I said to DP we need to get ready to go and rang hospital, they still said to hold off coming as didn't sound as though I was in established labour but I said no, we are coming in. They said okay but would probably send me home when I got there.
Examined me on arrival and I was 6 cm dilated so they said I could stay . Straight on to the gas and air while they filled up the pool for me, by this stage contractions pretty thick and fast. Got to 9 cm in an hour but 3 more hours after that till fully dilated by which time exhausted and in a lot of pain.
Then spent an hour pushing second stage but nothing happening, contractions easing off, very exhausted, time to go up to delivery suite (was in MW led birth centre) where given epidural and syntocin to get contractions going again. Baby was stuck, something to do with me having a short pelvic bone, and was ROP or whichever the bad one is for getting them out, and wasn't clear whether I was going to be able to deliver vaginally. Baby heart dropped so emergency button pressed and doctors came a running. Decided worthwhile trying ventouse before going for a c-section and pushed and got her out in 3 contractions after managing to turn her. Vitals weren't great initally but she came right after a few minutes.

Ha ha - so much for a quick story- hard to cut out too much!

Anyway after 2 nights where neither she nor I got a wink of sleep (think she was just traumatised after the delivery - as was I!), she had two 4 hour sleeps last night with 2.5 hour gap in the middle so I got almost 6 hours all up - woo hoo! I let DP sleep all the way through (he has been amazing) so that he can do tonight . So we are getting very settled and feeding well etc. And healing well with a little help from painkillers and my round bum pillow!

Hope everyone else is well and hope anyone overdue pops soon. Thank goodness the heat has lifted - it has been unbearable!

First visitors are on their way over but look forward to joining the post-natal thread soon (but will keep checking in here!).

Oh, also have put up some pics on my profile.

Sorry for the long post!

AggiePanther · 29/07/2008 14:00

Congrats catec - sounds like quite a tough time. Glad to hear things are going well now

FenLondon · 29/07/2008 14:19

Isla joined us in the small hours of Friday 25th July - 5 days late, but once she'd decided it was time, a good quick labour that all went smoothly. Doing very well, though a bit of a voracious appetite!

isaidno · 29/07/2008 14:28

congrats to fenlondon!
