Well, I hope a lot more of us can manage to have our babies in THIS thread, even if we will probably talk our way through it well before the end of the month!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
gillythekid · 22/07/2008 03:18

cityangel take a whole day to sit and twiddle your nipples, I did this for the whole of Saturday and woke up in labour on Sunday! I've had so much pineapple, hot curry, raspberry leaf tea, bouncing on the ball and sex(!) but I'm convinced that the incessant fiddling of the nips was what kicked it all off (and the threat of a sweep on Monday!)
I'm awake as my body clock is done in after the events of the last 36 hours. I don't seem to be producing colostrum so am up drinking lots of water so I can feed the wee man in the morning.

isaidno · 22/07/2008 07:44

gilly you will be producing colostrum; the amounts baby needs are tiny - it seems like nothing is there. Wait until the milk comes in.... I looked like Jordan first time around!

cityangel · 22/07/2008 07:59

thanks Gilly will give it a good go

pigleychez · 22/07/2008 08:21

Morning all,

Welcome to Cityangel...i too have done the lot but to no avail

Gilly- like isaidno said baby only needs a tiny amount to start with.

Well today should be my last pregnant day as im due to go in and be induced this evening. Im both excited and very scared!

Todays plans are to make sure the house is all ready for bubba, repack my hospital bag, possibly bake some cakes for babies visitors and abit of pampering myself too ( paint my nails etc).

libralady · 22/07/2008 08:31

Good luck for tonight pigley. Welcome cityangel.

EEC · 22/07/2008 08:40

Pigley - buy cakes for visitors and do some serious pampering and lazing around instead -and have a nap! Lots of luck.

EEC · 22/07/2008 08:43

Ooh yes, and welcome cityangel

Minkus · 22/07/2008 09:41

oooh best of luck Pigley! I agree with EEC- sod the housework do some self tlc!

Talking of tlc, (or lack of more like now Louis is here!) I can totally recommend Toni & Guys dry shampoo for the days when your hair could really do with a wash but you've not got the time to go to the loo let along wash your locks! It makes hair really presentable, I love the stuff!

bebejones · 22/07/2008 10:30

Ooooh Pigley....good luck, so exciting!!! Congrats to Ponto & Gilly! Off to make an experimental apple crumble (hob not working so trying 'stewing' apple in microwave!!!!)

minipinkscottish · 22/07/2008 11:07

I agree with gilly about fiddling with nipples can help to bring on labour. With ds4 I used my hand pump very gently for about half an hour and went into labour 10 minutes later and had a baby 50 minutes after that

Good luck to all still waiting xxx

Abbie is beautiful and feeding well - she is now 7lb 11 oz - putting on 11 oz this week

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 22/07/2008 12:14

Congratulations Gilly and Ponto!

Good luck with the induction Pigley. If it's any consolation, I was still able to have an unassisted vaginal birth with induction, and second stage was incredibly quick (and not actually quite as painful as I was expecting). Contractions did hurt, but they recommended an epidural which was a godsend. Being strapped to the bed wasn't much fun but at least I got some rest and I was so pleased to have a beautiful baby at the end that I didn't really mind that it hadn't worked out exactly as I wanted.

Meda's doing well. She's still not breastfeeding but I'm managing to express every feed at the moment. It's frustrating, but apparently my nipples are just a bit too large for her mouth so she can't get a good latch. The MWs reckon that if I persevere she'll get there eventually. It is very tiring though.

Minkus - agree about the Toni and Guy dry shampoo! I used it in the hospital, it was fab.

Mummywannabe · 22/07/2008 12:42

Hi all. Apologies for lack of posts, Max seems to make all the days blur into one!

He was 6lb 13 at birth by the way, and only lost 1/2 an ounce in the first week, little piggy.

Breastfeeding going ok, little man only like to feed in one way and its not very discreet so finding it hard to get out and about. He sleeps ok but is awake from 2am-5am each night, not crying but grumbling away. I'm tired and a bit tearful but getting there.

Re: feeding - in hospital he wouldn't feed and got quite weak and then couldn't feed in the end he had formula to perk him up a bit. I felt awful but it worked a treat so if anyone else ends up in the same situation don't worry, in my limited experience it all turned out for the best in the end.

Good luck to those of you still hanging on, i will continue to lurk and post when i can.

Any suggestions for my new name?

catec · 22/07/2008 12:46

Thanks Gilly and Minipink - am currently twiddling my nips to Paul Simon Graceland (also inspired by you Gilly!) - so labour here we come! Hope the neighbours aren't watching!
Good luck for your induction Pigley.

AggiePanther · 22/07/2008 13:24

Congrats Gilly and Ponto!! A great day to give birth if I may say so

Finding today very surreal.... im getting excited but also very nervous!
I put the moses basket on its stand next to the bed which made it feel very real!!

Hard to think i will be having my baby very soon. Thanks for everyones good wishes

Thanks for the reassurance Heffa...means alot as im still really nervous about being induced.

Its very warm here today! finding it abit much and hoping its not going to be too hot in the hospital!

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 22/07/2008 15:53

Don't worry Pigley, I'm sure it will be fine I was really scared about being induced in the end but it was OK and my midwife was terrific. The only thing I'd advise (based on my limited experience!) is not to be afraid of an epidural. Also, you won't necessarily need to be bed-bound. I was, but only because of extra factors - the midwife was quite happy for me to wander around the room except for those (mostly my BP and the baby being tricksy).

Good luck, I'll be thinking of you!

I'm hiding in my bedroom with the baby today because PIL are here all day. They mean well but are soooooo annoying.

purplejennyrose · 22/07/2008 16:29

Hi all - quickly popping in
Congrats and welcome to new babies - and good luck pigley!!

pigleychez · 22/07/2008 16:31

Thanks Heffa,

Hopefully i will only need minimal monitoring as theres no real probs as such. My bp has been bit up and down so they might check that often but thats easy enough to do.

Kinda hoped for a waterbirth... could still be a possibility i suppose.

Looking forward to posting my birth announcement soon.

Cant believe how quickly this afternoon has gone!- soon be time to go! aarrhhhh!!!

radiohelen · 22/07/2008 17:20

Belated congratulations ponto.....sorry - brain fart meant I didn't say it on last post.

Went to the mw today - they are coming on Saturday with their bottle brush sweeper to try and start things going.
Is this just me - I've got the hips of a 145 year old - I'm wearing my VERY attractive tubigrip hip bandage and I'm downing paracetamol like they are going out of fashion. Sleep is something that happens to other people...people who's hips don't hurt every time they move. Still managed to get husband to scratch the itch this morning though - when he said "Why couldn't you have had this idea at 10 to seven rather than 10 past" I pointed out he should make the most of it cos we weren't going to be getting any for some CONSIDERABLE time after baba arrives.....he went a bit pale and really got into it after that! Men...gotta love 'em.

pigleychez · 22/07/2008 18:08
