We are two down and have another 30-40 to go. Makecakes and Gemma have probably popped by now, then G43! It's all happening!!!!!

poppy34, can't comment on the pg What to Expect book - have to confess to not having the courage to read a single pg book throughout the entirety of my pg. Someone gave me Miriam Stoppard and it has remained in a cupboard untouched. The only books I've read are on childbirth and now on the early days.

Dh is trying to find our baby naming book at the moment - it was put in the loft after our 2nd m/c when I decided we were never going to have a baby . Now we've lost it!

He already has a name he loves but I went to have a look through the book just to be sure we're not missing something. I do really like the name he's chosen but it's very popular and as both me and dh have names where we were one of four or five in a class I just hoped to be a little more original with LO. However, neither of us like 'modern' names so we don't have a huge range of choices!!

spongebrainbigpants · 25/05/2008 17:57

oh, and I'm not brave enough to post on the baby names thread as it's one of the scariest places on MN! I cannot believe how nasty people get about each other's choice of name!

Personally I think 80% of the names posted on there are hideous but I wouldn't tell anyone that - how distressing if that's their favourite name ever? But as a teacher I know the damage a bad name can wreak . . . !

And don't even get me started on trendy spellings!

katyjo · 25/05/2008 18:18

Had a little girl 7lb 11oz yesterday morning at 6.02am - absolutely beautiful! No name yet!

Very quick, waters broke at 2.10am got to hospital about 3.30am, upto labour suite once examined (took bloody ages) contractions coming every minute. Much better once got gas an air, 2 hours later lo was born. No stitches, lovely midwife, stayed in hospital until 1pm yesterday, then went home.

She's an absolute dream. I am a bit of a technophobe so no pics at the mo.

debinaustria · 25/05/2008 18:22

OH Katyjo - I'm so pleased for you, congratulations, you make it all sound so easy!! What does your ds think?

So, SA - you're next out of the regular thread participants - how are you feeling?

poppy34 · 25/05/2008 18:46

spongebrain know exactly what you mean re babynames posts..scary. DH and I have a short list of names (got 2 books but must say neither of them really added much to the names we had anyway). we've both kept quiet to anyone about choices as its so personal..

Sounds like you and dh are doing all right without book though

katyjo massive congratulations - very jealous re birth story

PearTart · 25/05/2008 19:20

Katyjo Well Done!

Sounds like a really good birth, and lovely to be home so soon. Hope DS is proud. Look forward to hearing more in time.

UDC- LOL at wet museli!

goingfor3 · 25/05/2008 19:31

Huge congratulations Katyjo .

All four of us have had our babies before our due dates!

Baby was weighed today and has only lost 150g which is very good as he was 4.35kgs to start with so could have lost around 435g, he does love his milk!

spongebrainbigpants · 25/05/2008 19:56

Congratulations katyjo, looking forward to seeing the photos - and hugely of your labour! Don't expect I can expect one like that with my first can I?!

Looking forward to seeing the photos.

aberdeenhiker · 25/05/2008 19:59

congrats Katyjo!

I am feeling very down lately - I was told by everyone (midwives, family, friends) that I was going to go early and everyone has been planning things all around that. Now that I'm passed where they expected me to deliver (and I sort of did too), I'm finding it very hard to cope. Plus I'm getting a bit of SPD at this stage and can't take care of DS so he's still in nursery and I'm stuck at home alone waiting impatiently (dylansmum - I don't know how you've been coping! This little bit of pain has completely thrown me emotionally). I think I'll probably head in to work for a few hours tomorrow to fill my day (I've a book chapter due in October so I might as well work on it before the baby arrives rather than after), but now everyone thinks I'm completely mad for not wanting to stay home and sit on the couch and wait.

Anyways, I might be a bit absent for the next few days as I try to get my head in a better place. I'm very anxious about the birth too after a not so good experience with DS, which makes it feel sort of like waiting to be tortured - except the waiting is part of the torture! eek!

But good luck to everyone so far! it is nice to hear happy birth stories!

Upsidedowncake · 25/05/2008 19:59

Katyjo - fantastic! YOu had been having contractions for a while, hadn't you? What a lovely birth story - was it you who, like me, was induced for your first? If so, you are my heroine and I will aim to emulate you! Can't wait to hear names. x

Going43 - fantastic re limited weight loss. You must have great milk! How's the sleeping and everything going?

Spongebrain - LOL reading bits of books out to your DH. Last time, DH refused to read anything so I read out all the bits like that with a wry smile ...

Re babyname thread, I got quite good feedback on Dorothy, but I think that's because it's so unusual (except for everyone's granny). The fact that our names start with A (DH), B (me), C (DS) came in for a tiny bit of unqualified rudeness though.

Re Americanness of 'What to expect', I think they are all like that, although not as bad as the 'Best friends ...' series. Has anyone read those? I thoroughly enjoyed them except the crap US/UK glosses (and my DH is from the US!)

Hi Aberdeen

I wondered if you were feeling any better. Katyjo's birth story has helped me. Good luck for tomorrow - I think you're very sensible to fill your time productively. If that means working, and on a book chapter for October, that seems perfectly sensible! (hugs)

OP posts:
systemsaddict · 25/05/2008 20:08

Many congrats katyjo, fantastic news! and love your birth story, I live in hope!!

LOL Debs @ me being next regular on the list, pressure! Well, I am feeling .... absolutely fine, the usual intense BH over the bump after a day with ds but nothing beyond that, nothing that feels more 'internal' iyswim. Don't hold your breath as far as I'm concerned, I have decided I am like an elephant and gestate for a long time. Unless I get any more signs I'm still expecting nothing till mid-June, or maybe even later.

I did have a lovely session with the midwife on Friday. She found my handwritten notes on the NIHCE guidelines on induction which I had slipped into my green notes for my own reference, and realised from all my underlinings how determined I am to refuse it this time unless there's a clinical reason for it beyond dates. (Not to put anyone else off, as lots of people have had good induction stories, but I feel like I now know after last time that my particular body doesn't respond quickly to it.) So we talked about the options for monitoring instead, and she is even going to call the antenatal sister so the hospital know about 'my case'. Really reassuring ... but it does mean I could even be looking at the second half of June, if baby gets really comfy!

LauraT · 25/05/2008 20:46

congrats katyjo what a fantastic birth story, good luck with name choosing!

AH sounds like you need cheering up, hopefully you won't have too much longer and everything will be a bit easier this time round. have some virtual hugs...

systemsaddict · 25/05/2008 21:03

Sorry you're feeling low Aberdeen - I agree work sounds like a good idea, it helps to have another focus (but I have to say that really having just finished working through a PhD upgrade resubmission!). It gets really hard when you get to a point where you and everyone else expect something to happen then it doesn't, especially when you're in pain and exhausted by that already. I felt just the same after my (slight) false alarm a few weeks back. Up till then I had been quite at ease with the idea of going overdue, but all it took was one hour of 'proper' seeming contractions to knock me right off balance for a good few days, and it took a week or so of nothing more happening for me to start feeling OK with waiting again.

When I went 2 wks overdue last time it was torturous - and the regular phone calls and texts from all and sundry don't help either! I got to the stage where I wanted to say people 'yes, we had the baby weeks ago, just couldn't be arsed letting you know' ...

I think we should be given an expected due four-week slot, rather than an expected due date, really; it would reflect reality much more and make it all much easier.

thegreenfairy · 25/05/2008 21:12

Evening all.

katyjo CONGRATULATIONS! I was wondering where you were. How fantastic - and what a quickie! Do hope you work out how to post pix soon (although obviously not your top priority right now )

Sorry to hear about ernest's woes. I guess at least she may get to meet LO soon.

sophie re your friend's IVF - I know it's late, but I agree with the others - tread carefully and be led by her. I'm sure she's worrying about how it will go as well.

sponge re sleeping. Try propping yourself up with lots of pillows. You need to be about 45 degrees to the bed to be upright enough to stop the weight of the baby being uncomfortable if you're on your back.
It's a bit odd sleeping like that so try using the first track of the hypnotherapy CD to help you doze off? Also, re short labours, my best friend had a similar experience with her first so it's not impossible - think positive!

neenz Do you have the hospital hypnotherapy CD or was it one specific to twins? I have the home birth one, but need to change it now - can you help?

Have been having a chilled weekend after the dramas of the last week. Felt extremely upset on Friday about the various breech issues and was worried I was succumbing to depression (have had it mildly before so recognise the signs), which would make me a prime candidate for PND, but after a really good cry on DH's shoulder and some gardening and fresh air I seem to be ok again.
Trying to stay positive and assertive and look forward to the birth, although I have been struggling to sleep. Really hope to be early as past my due date I know the pressure for elective CS will ramp up quickly (they can't induce breech babies). Had first cup of raspberry leaf today and tastes fine to me so will be chugging it to try to get things started!

DH's v rich uncle has been asking if we need anything for LO but it's all covered! Any suggestions for something reasonable to ask for? (Apart from a spa day for me...)

bitofadramaqueen · 25/05/2008 21:12

Cograts katyjo - I aspire to your birth story!

Sorry to hear that you're feeling a bit low aberdeen and hope you feel a bit better soon. You know everyone is here if you need to chat.

thegreenfairy · 25/05/2008 21:13

Also abderdeen - sorry you're feeling rotten. Filling the time seems like a good idea. Hope you perk up soon and LO doesn't keep you waiting much longer...

debinaustria · 25/05/2008 21:19

Evening AH sorry you're feeling down, I think you may as well go into work rather than sit home and dwell on everything. At least you'll feel like you're doing something useful.

OK SA so you may not be next, lol. Probably Ernest next.

I've had a few BH tonight and just had one in the bath which was a 1st - don't usually get them in there!

Our lovely guests have volunteered to water all the window boxes whilst they're staying (she's a gardener) which is another job I don't have to do which is good, as dh would say - well I did them 3 days ago!!

Boys finally finished tidying their toys away today and I feel much better now, nesting is seriously underway . Tomorrow's task is for us to sort out our bedroom, get rid of crap declutter and get cot ready.

debinaustria · 25/05/2008 21:22

Greenfairy - present idea from dh's uncle - what about vouchers for one of those family photo sessions?

spongebrainbigpants · 26/05/2008 00:10

greenfairy, thanks for the tips on sleeping, I will try them in the next couple of days, along with the hypnotherapy CD.

Dh is back with me for the next couple of nights as we have in-laws staying, but once he's back in the spare room I'm free to experiment!

Btw, glad to hear you're feeling better about the breech - and fingers crossed LO makes an early appearance.

Aberdeen, sorry to hear you're not feeling good.

So, who's next?! I'm really hoping one of you has a baby next Sunday cos that's my birthday and I think 1st June is such a cool birth date - but then I am biased!!

spongebrainbigpants · 26/05/2008 00:40

Hmm, definitely spongebrain - just sat here thinking that the thread is v quiet tonight and then noticed it's 12:40am and you sensible lot are probably all in bed!

Time for me to head that way too!

debinaustria · 26/05/2008 00:41

Anyone awake? I'm too restless to sleep. No contractions just occasional BH, so I'm not in labour, just can't sleep. Have had a choc chip cookie and cornflakes in case it was hunger pains waking me up
