PurlyQueen · 25/03/2008 22:04

Oh - and he was eight pounds - which was big enough for me!

derah · 25/03/2008 22:48

MarchMamma - Congratulations on the arrival of baby Sophie! As for toddlers, my DD1 is 2.6, and I have three big tips for you that are helping us cope!

  1. CBeebies
  2. get a sling so you can 'hold' the baby and still spend quality time with your toddler doing cooking/drawing/crafts etc.
  3. go to lots of mum and toddler groups.

Good luck!!

shoshe · 26/03/2008 06:23

Hello, can I just pop in and let you all know that Tori went in at 5.00am will let you know on any further news.

Glammama · 26/03/2008 09:00

Had a text from Turtle last night to say contractions weren't regular but had started, yippee!

I'll try and keep you posted but she might beat me to it as I'll be away from the PC this afternoon.

Congratulations to all you new mums also.

tori32 · 26/03/2008 09:36

tori and turtle - go on there girls hope everything goes nice and quick and simple for you both.

marchmama - my dd2 is 2 at the end of april, luckily ismays sleeping constantly so its not to bad. she does like to poke her though so were having to keep a very close eye.

was in agony this morning, thought i had an infection or something and would need to go back to hospital, turned out to be trapped wind!!! cant believe it can be that painful

had the blues the past day or so when milks came in, not helped by the fact im not breast feeding and feeling guilty about it (i find it extremly painful even when latched properly)and now my mam and her parents keep slagging off my choice of name they dont like it as its 'arabic' sounding

sorry for whinging, but need to moan to someone

MumOfBillyTheKid · 26/03/2008 17:49

Yay - go Tori!!! go Tutle too!!!

Finally back online - haven't had chance to catch up on last 12 days of posts... been spending quality time with my LO. Congrats to those who have delivered, best of luck to those still waiting.

Birth story for those interested:

Thur, 13/3 3.30am - had a show and contractions started - fairly infrequent and not painful. Thought it was pre-labour so tried to rest, wrote shopping list!?!, bounced on ball, had a bath, eventually at around 6am, more frequent. Kept in mind needed 3 in 10 mins lasting 60 seconds each - when at 7.30am they were 3 in 10, but not 60 seconds, put tens on and got DP to call hospital. Shift change and offered to get MW to drop by here (said yes to save trip to hospital to be told (what I thought) would be only pre-labour/early stages).
She arrived 8am and said I was 8-9cm dilated -was shocked! Went straight to hospital!!
Got there and kept tens on (loved gas and air) , then 1 hr later got in pool. Had an hour in pool but wanted out when felt urge to push. Pushed for 2 1/2 hours (in various positions) - felt baby's head (had caput - swelling on head) but couldn't push him out. MW arranged ambulance to transfer me to Poole (only allowed so long at pushing I guess), as B'mth only MW led unit.

When got to Poole, pain was stronger, was examined (mid-contraction - very painful!!!) and told that baby was now back to back and had gone back up, so ECS was only option.

Thomas Green (still deciding on middle name) born 3.47pm on Thur 14/3 weighing 7lb 10 3/4 oz. Dropped to 7lb 5oz after 4 days, but BF well now - hoping when health visitor comes tomorrow he'll say he's back above birth weight. He's BF well and a joy!! Very proud - looks just like his Dad (pics on my profile)

JFly · 26/03/2008 19:50

Go turtle and tori!!

Pics of Griffin up on my profile....

HolidaysQueen · 27/03/2008 09:22

Oh JFly - I'm now so jealous having looked at your photos and want my little boy to arrive asap!

Due date today. Any signs of impending labour have gone AWOL. Sigh. So I'm avoiding thinking about it by doing anal things like tidying up our Dates list to include recent news and to separate out regular posters from those we haven't heard from for a while. Not many babies left to arrive.

I'm feeling a bit crappy but TBH it's not the physical side of things that is getting me down at all - I don't ache too much, enjoy feeling my baby move around, have quite a bit of energy for walks etc. - but mentally I am at the end of my tether and really really want him out.

After the last week of scares, I'm finding it very difficult dealing with the responsibility of being the only one who can monitor his movements and make the call on whether every headache/dizzy spell (of which I get a few) is worth reporting or not etc. I just wish he were here so we could see whether he looks okay and I could ask DH's opinion etc. I don't really want to talk to the midwife unless it's really bad because they keep on saying "well come in to the hospital to be checked out" which takes hours and never finds anything other than more things to sort of worry about in a vague way (e.g. went in for pre-eclampsia scare last week and came out worrying about iron levels even though they were only just below average). I don't have a named midwife and have had most checks through GP so have no continuity of care from someone who would be able to tell whether my concerns are a real issue or just me being a hypochondriac.

Anyway, I'm back into the hospital this afternoon after Mon/Tues scare so will see midwife then. I'm going to beg for a sweep then even though I think their policy isn't to do it until 41 weeks, as I'm not sure I can mentally cope for another week with all these niggles.

Hope all who are waiting are well and not too fed up, and that those of you with LOs are doing okay.

merryberry · 27/03/2008 09:29

1 handed typing! scuse me.

shoshe must be busy with tori's bigger kid...had a text last night to say tori is now the happy new mum of Lucy Anna born by emcs at 2049 on the 26th weighing 10lb!

shoshe · 27/03/2008 12:10

Did put it here Merry meant to put it on this thread as well, but got a bit distracted with Mindee1's birthday

derah · 27/03/2008 13:31

Congratulations Tori and MoBtK!!!!!

Go Turtle!! Yay! It's finally happening!!!

spugs · 27/03/2008 17:07

congratulations tori and MOBTK

aprilfoolsbaby · 27/03/2008 19:34

HQ I know exactly how you feel. I'm still hanging on in there aswell watching everyone else have their babies and wondering what kind of birth experience lies in store for me and waiting impatiently to meet our baby.

I too have had blood pressure 'blips', in fact it had shot up to 95 on Tuesday and I'm being visited tomorrow by the midwife - if it's still high I'll have to go and have it monitored in hospital. It's strange because a different midwife sent me straight in when it was 92 and this time I've had head aches! I know what you mean when you say you feel all the responsibility is on you to monitor the baby, I think the 10 movements a day thing is rubbish. My baby really is a wriggler and I must get a hundred movements a day, so if I had 10 I'd be worried!

Just try and relax, enjoy these last few days (because that's all it is now!)

Hope your trip to hospital worked out well and you at least got some reassurance.

Glammama · 27/03/2008 19:52

Hurray!!!

Text from Turtle to say that Pascal Roy born 3.03 am weighing 7.7lb!!!

Well done Turtle and welcome Pascal!

derah · 27/03/2008 20:28

Woo hoo!! Congratulations Turtle and welcome Pascal!!!

mistyamica · 27/03/2008 21:14

Hi ya! Baby Alex finally arrived on 25th March at 12.42pm weighing in at 8lb 5oz!!

The labour was 12 hours but I was pushing for an hour as he decided he wanted to be born sideways!! I had to to sit on the toilet to squat to try and get him to turn round! I had to be cut so he could come out. even then he STILL tore me further!

It was all worth it though! I am so happy! he is a lovely big baby!

MissingMyHeels · 27/03/2008 21:43

Congratulations to all the new Mums! The babies seem to be coming thick and fast now.

Tilly is home and has thus far been a little angel... Am hoping it lasts but I am sure the sleepless nights will kick in soon! Breastfeeding has been really damaged by her being in the neo natal unit for a week and a bit so not sure it's going to be a go-er but am hanging in there!

We'll have to organise a meet up soon now all the babies are appearing

HolidaysQueen · 27/03/2008 22:44

Hurray - congratulations turtle and mistyamica! aprilfoolsbaby - i don't like saying this as i know everyone just wants their babies here, but i'm glad i'm not the only one left pregnant here. i was really starting to feel like i was!

hospital went well today - saw the doctor who discharged me on tues, so some semblance of continuity of care. My bp was up again (reading as high as 170/100 but they think there is a problem with the cuffs on me so they're looking at the relative changes from last time i was monitored rather than actual level it says), and my protein is up a little. However they aren't yet calling it pre-eclampsia as there may be another urine infection complicating things and it could just be high bp which is not great but not as bad as pre-eclampsia!

Upshot is, I'm back in tomorrow and Sat for monitoring. If bp continues to rise I'll be induced overnight on Sat. If it is stable they'll give me a sweep and let me go a bit longer.

They gave me a sweep today to see if things will move - cervix soft and thin but posterior so not brilliant but it may have some effect. Been for a long walk and bounced on my ball, which has given me lots of painless BH contractions, and then also some tummy ache, but aches don't really coincide with contractions so not really convinced much is happening

Anyway good luck with your midwife tomorrow afb! LOL at 100 movements a day - I was asked what I meant by a 'quiet' day for my baby and they were shocked when I said "maybe 30 movements"
