turtle23 · 28/03/2008 11:20

Bum. Got home yesterday and this morning little man woke up with a suntan. Jaundice. Off to hospital again. Hoping it's due to my having a ventouse...oh yes, will fill you all in on the home birth gone very wrong soon.

Merry - Runway? If only. I think I'm still stuck in Terminal 5 without the baggage...

Sweep yesterday set off a load of BH-type contractions (no pain or discomfort, but more regular and persistent than BH) all evening and night but they have predictably stopped this morning.

Just got back from the hospital from bp check. My bp yesterday was 170/100; today it was 120/80. Go figure... Main thing is, baby is absolutely fine and was squirming as usual when being monitored.

Because my bp was good, I don't have to go in tomorrow for further monitoring but can wait until Sunday instead. Induction for Sunday on hold - will probably be cancelled if protein test comes back okay this afternoon. So at the moment I think they will just keep checking bp and if it doesn't get worse then they'll let me wait for the baby to try and make his own way into the world. I'm so going into April...

aprilfoolsbaby · 28/03/2008 12:25

HQ glad your bp is back down. Mine is 130/84 this morning so no monitoring for me.
Am pleased as the thought of driving to the hospital on such a miserable day was not appealing.

I haven't had so much as a twinge until this morning and I've had periody cramps and a sicky feeling. Is this the start of it? The midwife said they'd look at an induction when I'm 12 days over which would be 2 weeks today. Oh well, 2 weeks of pottering about and general cleaning and dog walking trying to avoid horrible daytime TV!

Is there just the two of us left?

doup76 · 28/03/2008 12:46

For any ladies who are overdue and feeling desperate....my midwife actually recommended me an acupuncturist, he treated me and I went into labour the next day. Worth a try and preferable to induction!

merryberry · 28/03/2008 13:08

both mine had jaundice turtle, BF and FF top up with gay abandon and no guilt or worry please

imjin100 · 28/03/2008 13:17

hang in there all you guys still waiting, read a magazine, wash your hair, read a book, bath, drink hot tea and enjoy yourselves...easier said than done but do try to enjoy every moment.....
sending happy vibes your way.

derah · 28/03/2008 15:14

I'm surprised so many of you have had to go to/stay in hospital to deal with jaundice. LO and DD1 were both a lovely shade of yellow but I was just told to get them lots of natural light and feed as often as possible. With both of them it cleared up very quickly and no-one suggested hospital at all.

Turtle - looking forward to your birth story, even if things didn't go according to plan.

HolidaysQueen · 29/03/2008 08:53

aprilfoolsbaby - I hope that is the start of things for you! I think of the March lot us two, plus Angua and LittleDucks over on the "am I in labour?" thread here are still definitely waiting. We haven't heard from Prisci and Paranoid1stTimer in a few days, so I'm hoping things have been happening for them.

I had a big show yesterday afternoon (pinkish-red) which continued overnight. I had a lot of discomfort low-down last night with occasional sharp pain when I moved. So I wondered if that is the start of my cervix dilating, or whether it is just the after effects of my sweep on Thurs afternoon. Either way, I've woken up feeling knackered but with no other symptoms. Grrr...

My mum and dad have got bets on about when this baby will arrive - mum reckons tomorrow, dad reckons not till next Wednesday! I so hope my mum wins the £1 stake they've wagered...

merryberry · 29/03/2008 10:21

ooh, big money HQ
i hope this is it for you!

derah, diff kinds/levels of jaundice - physiological is OK with sunlight, when bilirubin levels are higher especially at birth or in 1st 24 hours you need to be a bit more aggressive with treatment. Currently the NHS is overtreating some lesser cases of jaundice as there has been a rise in the (very, very tiny) number of cases of the most serious kind which causes death/neuro defects. Rise is probably due to early discharge, so onset of jaundice is not noticed and given a bilirubin test to check which kind it is.
oh dear, once an epidemiologist, always an epidemiologist...i have been spending ages plotting next career stage during the daRK NIGHT FEEDS AS WELL. damn it caps lock again!

littleducks · 29/03/2008 10:37

oh god, i have been dreading the day that a 'lets see the babies' meet up was suggested, i have a reoccuring nightmare that i go along to the meet up to see all the little lovely babies and i am the only one who is STILL PREGNANT ages after everyone has birthed. Am convinced baby will in fact turn up in september or something when you all have six month olds.

Poor dd keeps shouting at my tummy, "baby come out! SOON!"

derah, how do you keep baby and toddler seperate when you want to do something without sling? I built the cot the other day, had decided that would be my one safe place to put baby away from dd as i think the moses basket could be tipped/dragged about. Then i went into cupboard to get sheets, when i went back dd was sitting in the cot, she can literally vault over the sides! So i paid a fortune to tumble tots to train her to be impossible to contain!

Prisci · 29/03/2008 12:08

HQ unfortunately still pregnant and nothing seems to be happening like most of you, I am starting to feel as if this baby is NEVER going to come out, so far only a very very small amount of mucus on Thursday and a few contractions but nothing since. The baby is pushing around, and grinding my pelvis, I think he also wants to come out but my body is saying not yet. My bump has dropped but is also getting bigger, thus still panicking about strech marks. I've got to play the good partner tonight and go to what is going to be an incredibly pumpous dinner, where I am sure people are going to be giving a lot of advice..grrrr
I hope the baby will do a few tricks and thus have the perfect excuse not to be going.... At the same time my Obstetrician is off the island this weekend and I really don't want to be in someone else's hands as he is the only one who tries to use as little medication, etc...as possible compared to the others whom in some cases do not even let you squat if you want to, even if we are the customers after all as they get paid through the private insurance system etc...
Sorry about the rant...but like most of us left, tired to be pregnant indeed!!! .

Littleducks feel for you about the cot story, a cage might be in order , only trying to lighten up a bit.

surprisedandexcitedmum · 29/03/2008 16:30

Dear All,

Congratulations and good luck.

I'm sorry I haven't posted for a long while and that it took a lovely comment on my blog from Holidays Queen to bring me back, but I just wanted to let you know that Isobel Grace Findon was born on 1st March after a quick labour.

I do hope you are all doing okay and that the waiting is nearly over for everyone.

LOL

gingercat12 · 29/03/2008 19:13

I hope everyone is doing very well. Sorry for disappearing, but being inexperienced parents the first few weeks totally overwhelmed us. In a positive way.

We had our little baby, James, on the 9th March. He weighed 9 pounds and is gorgeous. There were complications, but we both came out fighting and are doing well. I can only sing praises of our chosen hospital (the RVI in Newcastle).

Sending positive vibes to 2in1 ladies and wishing all the best to new moms, babies and their families xxx

merryberry · 29/03/2008 19:20

littleducks, i'm working the 'what are you doing with baby's XYZ? you're a big boy, not a baby' angle reasonably well with ds1. he is not madly interested in stuff baby related, mind, so it's easy enough with him

turtle23 · 29/03/2008 22:07

Hello all...home again. In love with a baby who is so well behaved it's scary. I know it takes a few days to wake up properly, but...he eats well whether breast or bottle, burps easily, sleeps well...just a same I've been in a noisy ward and not at home as I haven't slept or eaten properly for days.

OP posts:
littleducks · 29/03/2008 22:27

merry- honestly im more scared of the "what the hell are you doing with/ to the baby"! Doesnt help that she keeps throwing her (scarily lifelike as its head smacks against the laminate) doll down the stairs as she finds it to bulky to carry down.

HolidaysQueen · 29/03/2008 23:27

Hmmm. I may have a little progress to report - another (!) show and now dull ache in lower back for past 2 hours which is how both mum and MIL said it started for them. However, DH is convinced this baby is never arriving of his own free will and I'm half in agreement with him. Off to bed now - will report back tomorrow.

aprilfoolsbaby · 30/03/2008 07:03

Congratulations on the arrival of Isobel Grace and baby James!

HQ I hope things got moving for you during the night and your baby puts in an appearance today.

It is officially my due date today and apart from a few little cramps and niggles I've had no signs whatsoever that this little baby is arriving any time soon.

I'm also mindful of the fact that April 1st is looming and I'd prefer to avoid it as a birth date!!

I should have been on the April thread all along. By the time we have our babies the March post-natal thread babies will be on solids and crawling about!

I'm keeping the absolute final date in my mind (11th April) and am going to do loads of lovely things until then .... coffee with friends, finish decorating our spare room, facials, baths, reading, sleeping .... All this anticipation was getting me down (like waiting for Christmas as a kid only to wake up and be told that it's actually tomorrow - over and over again!) so what will be will be and no amount of worrying about it helps.

Aprilfoolsbaby goes off to make pancakes for breakfast

HolidaysQueen · 30/03/2008 09:54

Morning all! Well, I think I am in the early stages of labour but it's not really progressing much so I'm not expecting an imminent arrival...

I went to bed with dull backache, but had what I assume were two proper contractions just as I got ready for bed, about 10 mins apart - wave of period-like pain low down co-inciding with rock hard tummy.

I slept fitfully (horrid dream about being in hospital only 1cm dilated with 4 mad doctors threatening episiotomy!) but noticed more contractions of similar intensity - sore but manageable. As I was in and out of consciousness I didn't really take note of regularity, and think that if they happened when I was asleep I would probably have slept through them anyway.

At around 7.30am I had a few about 10 mins apart that hurt a bit more than before so I got up as I was feeling a bit dizzy and dehydrated after a night in bed. I've had some breakfast and they are very roughly every 10 mins (though sometimes 5 mins and sometimes 15 mins apart) but I'm coping much better now I'm up and they are really just like period pains. Backache comes and goes. I've had another show as well, so I do think things are moving but slowly.

It doesn't feel like they are going anywhere imminently, and I half expect them to stop now that I'm up. But I suppose this is progress and I'll keep you all posted!

surprisedandexcitedmum · 30/03/2008 11:29

Good luck HQ, will be thinking of you today.

I promise you it's all worth it, make sure you eat - you need your energy!

imjin100 · 30/03/2008 12:23

thinking of you HQ - wishing you a speedy labour and a delicious baby soon in your arms....

and to all those still waiting...thinking of you.

Paranoid1stTimer · 30/03/2008 12:34

Congratulations to all the new mums and just hand in there to all those overdue.

Just a quick post to say our little boy Dillon arrived 8lbs 6 on 22nd March after an extra week cooking time. Birth plan went out the window as ended up labouring too fast for the Group B Strep antibiotics to kick in so they slowed labour down and ended up in theatre at the end of the day since baby was distressed.

Anyway, he is here safe and sound now and home with his mummy n daddy. He is a popular wee boy - visitors havent stopped for a second so we are all exhausted but he is gorgeous and a good baby but terrifyingly tiny and fragile at the same time!!!

Good luck to everyone and love to all. Hope everyone else is doing amazingly.

PS THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU FOR THE RECOMMENDATION FOR EARTHMAMANGELBABY STUFF!!!!! It is fantastic.... Phew.....
