My twins are due in May and it would be nice to have other multiple-mums-to-be to chat to!

GettingBiggerBird · 23/10/2008 10:48

Yay, congratulations MM and what great weights. Looking forward to hearing how you all are.

Welcome mum2william, we're all obsessed with our twin purchases and do lots of moaning about symptoms here so come and let it all hang out . Luckily, some of nice post-natal ladies have stuck around to to give us the benefit of their wisdom.

Last day in the office for me, yippee. Off to eat cake .

TALLULAHBELLE · 23/10/2008 19:57

Hi mum2william . Yes it is a shock isn't it?! I think it's the thought of 3 under 2 more than anything. My DD will be around 18-19 months when my DT's arrive. Am still getting my head around it.

Balamorybaby · 25/10/2008 19:08

Hi Ladies, I found this ante-natal club whilst searching for info on twins and would love to join in.
I'm expecting twins, (due 11th March) and already have a DS1 aged 13, DD1 aged 11, DD2 aged 10 and DS2 aged 25months.
We're very excited but also a little scared!

TALLULAHBELLE · 25/10/2008 21:23

WOW. You will have your hands full. How are the older DC's with the youngest ? Are they excited at the prospect of 2 more LO's ?

BinkyB · 26/10/2008 12:04

Hi there, I've posted this in the 'D'y ever' thread in multiples too, but would be great to hear what new mums or those expecting babies soon are planning.

My twins are due in Mar/Apr next year, DH works v long hours and we're just wondering what sort of childcare we want/need/can afford for the first few months at least.

The main thing we are looking at budgets for is help/support with the babies, so we can make sure our sanity and marriage might survive and then worry about whether we need/can afford a new car! Can I ask you please what sort of help you would recommend for the first 6 months? Will I get through it without a nanny / maternity nurse etc.? Sadly my Mum lives quite a way away and while I am hoping she will come and stay for a bit, I don't want to take the p* and be a granny-exploiter for too long.

If you used any paid for childcare services, would you mind telling me roughly what they cost? Or any good places to start when looking into costs (we are in London if any of you are).

Thanks a million (or thruppence hapeth if our budget looks as scary as I think it is going to )

BinkyB · 26/10/2008 12:06

Oh and Mum2William my hospital said they could do the blood tests for twins, some new method - so I had both nuchal scan and test results to check, both came back with different results but fine. Might vary by area as lots of things seem to!

I'd add 'Double Trouble' to Mel's list of books too as I enjoyed it recently. Quite a positive read.

mel2005 · 26/10/2008 14:32

well, i have just got back from hospital after having to stay in with another bleed. i have had the steriod injection to mature their lungs as they are worried and they only let me home now as the bleeding has stopped and i am 15mins away by car and the ambulance station is half way betwen me and the hospital. i am trying to take it easy as i am only just 29 weeks now. the estimated weights are 2lb8oz at the moment. DH is busy fitting a new kitchen so its all hectic at home.

accessorizequeen · 26/10/2008 20:41

Oh mel, so sorry , you must be out of your mind with worry. Really good that they have given you steroid injections though as that is the main worry if they are prem. Do try and keep out of the chaos and just concentrate on you and the babies if you can - the rest does not matter. fingers crossed that those babies stay put!!

TALLULAHBELLE · 26/10/2008 21:06

Thinking of you Mel. Get as much rest as possible - hopefully you can keep them in there a good while longer.

TALLULAHBELLE · 26/10/2008 21:06

GettingBiggerBird · 27/10/2008 12:15

Mel best wishes for you, hope you can get plenty of rest and keep them in a few more weeks at least.

BinkyB - can't really help on the childcare front yet, we're going for a doula this time round (Marslady on here) but only have the number of a night nanny for emergencies. My DH can be around quite a bit for the first couple of months.

Balamorybaby welcome - please come and join us, our numbers might dwindle as the DTs arrive and keep the mums too busy to post.

I am having a lovely relaxing child-free day at home, just been for a scan and twin 1 has turned head down, what a good girl! I really think my acupuncturist helped with that. Coming up to 32 weeks and over 8lbs of baby already, it's exhausting isn't it?

Pheonixnights · 27/10/2008 18:07

Oh Mel - I am really hoping that everything works out ok for you. As the others have said, you must rest.

I had my 28 week check today. Twin 2 is now head down and twin 1 is breach. They weigh approx 2lb 12 and 2lb 13, can believe how much weight they have gained over the last 4 weeks!! the little fatties!

Welcome to the newbies. I can't believe how quickly my pregancy is going!! When I found out it was twins I was gob smacked, but you do get your head round it quickly. Still have some days of panic but having seen my babies today, I can't wait to meet them properly (and find out what they are!!!)

anjlix · 27/10/2008 19:05

oh wow i found a twin thread. I hope to join you guys. I have MCDA identical twin girls and currently nearing 29 weeks.

Pheonixnights your dates seem close to mine. I have a 29 week scan in 2 days. I am excited to know hw large they will be. They were both head down at 25 weeks.

I was also very shocked to find out. But now it feels a bit weird when people assume you are having one baby. The other day a mid wife at the hospital said, 'okay lets see how the baby is doing' with the heart beat thing in one hand. And I caught myself thinking 'who has only one baby'? haha

GettingBiggerBird · 27/10/2008 21:00

GettingBiggerBird · 27/10/2008 21:00

Obviously we need AQ and MM to update the list - sorry!

Pheonixnights · 28/10/2008 09:33

Hi Anjlix. How are you doing? I have had the worst 2 nights sleep now and it is really annoying me!! I wake every 2 hours and then spend 20 minutes to make 1 turn! I prefer sleeping on my side but I find I wake up with my hip in agony because of all the bloody weight on it. Honestly I look at hubby fast asleep on his front and want to hit him with my bedside lamp!!! It's not fair! It worries me how I am going to cope when I am even bigger. I seem to be the only one moaning about it. Are you lot all coping better or am i just a drama queen?

mel2005 · 28/10/2008 11:21

hello all, there are quite a few of us due about the same time now. i am feeling alot better and am trying to take it easy, which is quite hard with a 4yr and 2.5yr old on half term from nursery and a building site for a kitchen. i am finding it really hard to sleep as well and i keep getting up to check i am not bleeding again. i dont think i will ever relax again. if it is the placenta, i could be in big trouble if alot comes away so i am not going to lift anything. i am trying to eat loads so if they do make an early appearance they have a better chance. the hospital had 23 week old twins born two weeks ago that have survived. at least i am 29+3 now, i just need a few more weeks.
we are still trying to decide on names, DH is going on about walter and winnifred (after his grandparents), i hope he is joking!!!!!. i quite like tegan and thomas at the moment but i am not sure about the same initial. rosemary and thomas would be nice as well.
luckily i packed my hospital bags after the last scare so DH just had to pick them up on his way to the hospital. i have washed all the early baby and newborn clothes ready (just an excuse to use the new tumble dryer) the nursery is ready as well, so now i just have to sit and wait.

Balamorybaby · 28/10/2008 11:46

anjlix · 28/10/2008 12:21

GettingBiggerBird I am adding myself to the list at the bottom. Thanks for the welcome. lol.

mel2005 sending good vibes to you. I read some where that babies born after 28 weeks have 100% survival rate in some hospitals.

I feel very anxious about it too. I will be 29 weeks tomorrow. Some how want to get past 30. No complications so far except emotional issues but mind is paranoid.

Pheonixnight I have some good nights and some bad ones. It does not help that I can hear mom snore in deep sleep from the other room. The other day I freaked out when I woke up at 5a and could not go back to sleep. Finally went to bed at 8a until 11a. I can do that since I am on my annual leave now, followed by mat leave and no kids. But I needed to give my self some space and say that it is okay to be up when others are sleeping and vice versa. Sleep has become irregular and I can not control it. My legs hurt too due to the weight. If it gets too much I take a paracetamol once in a while. And yes I do think about how am I going to cope when I am further along. One trick is to tell my self that tomorrow wont be much different from yesterday and may in fact be better. It is not like I am going to wake up and find myself to be a complete basket case unable to cope.

Here is the new list.

PazzaPlusTwo: twin girls born April 28th 2008 - Anais and Carmen
Neenztwinz: twins born May 6 2008, Esther and Theo
Accessorizequeen non id g/b twins due Oct 2nd (induced at 38 wks though) - East Yorkshire

Balamorybaby: twins due 11th March - East Sussex
Anjlix: id twin girls due 24 dec (37 weeks) - London, booked at St Thomas.

Pheonixnights · 28/10/2008 17:21

Mel you sound really organised and at least you don't have to think about all the things you need to do. I am finding I think alot in the middle of the night when I am rearranging the pillows for the 50th time. Things always seem worse at 3 o clock in the morning.

I have a few names that I like for the twins but hubby just wants to wait until they arrive before we decide. I have a Thomas already who is nearly 8.

On a happy note we are getting the new car tomorrow. We have gone for the Zafira as I didn't want a huge car. I have never had such a new car before so I am really looking forward to it! Once it has come we are off to Kiddicare to get the double pushchair. THings are starting to come together at last! Next week is my last day at work. I have been there for 12 years and it feels so strange that I am going to be leaving for good. My mum looks after my boys when I work but with 4 children it won't be possible and with childcare costs for twins it won't be worth me going back. I think there will be tears next Wednesday!

Anyway hopefully I get a better nights sleep tonight. I think I will take a paracetamol before I go off at least to try and get a stretch of more than 2 hours! I am such a wuss!! What am I going to be like when the twins arrive!

accessorizequeen · 28/10/2008 18:13

welcome all new twin mums glad to have you here. Still trying to pop in now and again. Have added new photo today, they were one month old yesterday . Nights v.hard, ds3 (dt1) had colic all night arggghhh. At least dd doesn't have it as well. Aside from that they are absolutely lovely and well worth waiting for. PG is but a memory, how soon it fades
Details, gbb - Born at 39+4 weeks, 27th Sept, Felix James 6lb 8oz and Bridget Rose 7lb 7oz.

TALLULAHBELLE · 28/10/2008 19:46

Pheonixnights You are so not being a drama queen. I can't remember the last time I slept for more than a few hours at a time. I go to bed about 10:30 but as soon as I lie down the permanent heartburn intensifies so I end up sitting upright till I finally drop of sometime after midnight. Then every couple of hours I wake up for the toilet or cos my back hurts, my bump hurts, my legs are cramping or the heartburn is agonising. Then my mind starts whirring & I can't settle back down. I have 3 or pillows under my head, one to support my back, one under my bump or between my legs. The only time I feel comfy is when the alarm has gone off & I need to get up for work. Then suddenly I'm cosy, comfy & ready to settle down for sleep. At the moment DH is abroad but comes home in Nov. I am already dreading having him in the bed, using up pillows, taking up precious space & snoring his head off. Then sleeping in the morning whilst I get up & go to work. Gah! I guess I'm the drama queen!!!!Sorry- what a rant.

TALLULAHBELLE · 28/10/2008 19:48

AQ Pics are gorgeous. Makes it all worthwhile.

anjlix · 28/10/2008 20:00

talking about drama. i was weepy all afternoon tired of being pregnant. mom had to take the brunt. so dont feel like you are the only one...

swerve · 29/10/2008 09:53

hello all, I'm so glad to find such enthusiasm for twins. I'm just back from a scan and found there are 2 in there. We're still shaking and reeling and i'm resisting from reaching for a stiff whisky! Currently in 10th week. due 28th May. dd1 is 17 months. So pretty much in the same boat as Mum2william.

I'm sure I'll be picking the brains of those more experienced twin-mums.
