PurlyQueen · 30/08/2007 14:35

Glamma - I'm sitting here open-mouthed in shock at what happened to you. I don't know what I would have done. I used to get the 25 when I lived in East London because it was the cheapest way to get to work.

In fact, I'm going to have a sympathy hot chocolate and Twix right now . I've had my four portions of fruit for breakfast (juice, and 'posh porridge' with apples, blueberries and raspberries) so I don't feel too guilty...

gingercat12 · 30/08/2007 14:40

Flossie and WMMC, I am so sorry about all the bad news. Hope you'll join another ante-natal club soon!

Just to add something positive, I have told my boss I was expecting and he took it very well. (He is absolutely smitten with his own little boys.) I started to cry talking about the ultrasound and he started to cry, too. Bless him!

glammarjoram · 30/08/2007 15:20

ginger, that is the sweetest thing!
Thanks for all your lovely messages. I came home, had a hot but not too hot bath and then played some very loud Pulp and Roxy Music whilst eating a chocolate croissant. I feel a lot better but have decided I want to move, I've had enough already. Guess I'm just being totally pregnant and impulsive.

iliketosleep · 30/08/2007 15:34

thats what i was meant to ask!!! why arent you supposed to have hot baths? I have hot baths cant stand cold or even warm baths have to be making you sweat hot!!! is this wrong??

3madboys · 30/08/2007 15:39

oh i know the bath thing is very annoying, i 'think' it is because VERY HOT and i mean VERY HOT baths used to be used to help induce miscarriage, but this was combined with herbal treatments etc, ie in the 2ww when abortion was illegal. at least thats my understanding of it.

i still have been having hot baths, ie i get in then have to sit on the edgoe for a bit cos its too hot, but i dont think that they are hot enough to be a problme iyswim, i was careful in the first ten weeks or so tho, just paranoia on my half.

gingercat12 · 30/08/2007 15:41

Am happy you are feeling a better Glamma. I miss my hot baths so much. I have not had one since June, because I am constantly feeling hot and the bath makes it so much worse. (In June though I did not why I felt so funny ).
I do not know why we should not have baths, sorry, iliketosleep.

Brazilianmum · 30/08/2007 15:45

Hi Ladies
Here is what I have read about the hot bath/jacuzzi thing... because your body temp goes up during pregnancy and if you have hot baths or go in a jacuzzi or sauna this can raise th temp higher and be harmful to the baby.

iliketosleep · 30/08/2007 15:49

oh no what am i gonna do!!! i cant not have my baths and we dont have a shower

timmyinatizzy · 30/08/2007 16:31

Flossie and WMMC sorry to hear your sad news. Just as we thought that everyone was going to be ok.

ClaphamLauren · 30/08/2007 16:35

I asked my midwife about the bath thing and apparently the danger is raising your body temp to above 101 degrees. So either have a hot bath and do it quickly (less than 15 mins) or you can have a warm one for longer. She defined warm by being able to get straight in!

If you don't have a showed you're going to have to get used to cooler baths or quick ones!

nikki35 · 30/08/2007 18:53

Hi everyone - just joined and am 12 weeks - ust had a bath myself, not too hot mind you!

skidoodle · 30/08/2007 20:08

Hi everyone & welcome nikki

OMG glammarj (are we calling you glamma now? sounds like a lady with a big bottom and lots of jewels to me I rather like it) what happened to you today is awful. How dreadful. I hope you're feeling better now.

hey turtle, good luck with your booking in appointment tomorrow. It will be nice to meet your midwife even if there is no heartbeat listening.

derah and imjin - impressed at your triathlon credentials. my cousin just did one. did you have to eat mashed potatoes for breakfast? (sorry to any queasy people)

9 miles each way to work? OMG derah that's a lot. No wonder you haven't felt up to it.

imjin, my 2 mile (or less maybe) cycle to work is my only exercise right now. I've been too wrecked to get to the pool/gym for weeks past. Was planning to go this evening but although feeling a lot better than before, still have my "evening sickness" and just couldn't face it. I'm not as fit as you triathletes, but I like to be fit and I'm kind of freaking out a bit about getting totally out of shape. I should just stop worrying about it, right?

bath ladies - just as well I don't have a bath if we're not allowed to have them really hot. it's the only way I like 'em. poor iliketosleep, that is a bit rubbish.

glammarjoram · 30/08/2007 20:40

evening all, and welcome to nikki.
Crikey skidoodle have you been spying on me? Big bum and jewels (of the non valuble variety, of course), pmsl, that is so me!! I'm feeling a lot better now, just trying not to think about it too much. I was feeling more energetic but now I have started feeling tired again.Especially come afternoon. Oh well, give me fatigue over nausea any day.Derah I got jelly legs just reading about your 9 mile bike ride. If I get off the bus a stop early I'm pleased with myself! Hope all is well with you ladies.

glammama · 30/08/2007 20:53

right I thought glamma sounded so much better than my rubbish name so I tried to change it. It was already taken so I am now glammama. Get it? (I'm just so not, at the minute!!)

skidoodle · 30/08/2007 21:07

glammama, LOL

I remember you back when you were plain old marjoram [without an arse in your trousers etc.], now look at you with your glamma and jewels and growing bump

glammama · 30/08/2007 21:23

growing is not the word! I got my first lady with a baby seat on the bus today. Not sure if that is good or bad! Oh yes, the plain old Marjoram days are well gone.!! It's all massive arse and massive tits lassooed by beads now.

derah · 30/08/2007 21:36

Welcome Nikki!

Love the new name, Glamama!

Skidoodle - maybe I was fit once, but that was before DD! I gained a LOT of weight when pg with her which I still haven't shifted, and the only exercise I've done for ages is running. And I've hardly done any of that for months and months since it was so wet this past winter that all the trails I run on turned to slush and I had nowhere to run! So I'm an unfit blob at the minute! And DH is impressed cos I bought a new bike at the beginning of summer with promises that I would ride it lots and lots, but the weather has been so bad I've only used it a handful of times.

One thing I can recommend to you all is aqua aerobics. I started doing regular (not ante-natal) aqua-aerobics and aqua-kickboxing last time I was pg and it really helped. It keeps you fit but takes all the strain off, especially when you turn into an enormous elephant at the end! Since I'm not as fit this time, I'm going to go to aqua-natal classes instead of regular ones... they have an evening and a Sunday one now, rather than just the morning one when I'm at work that they had last time (why do they assume pg women don't work?!). I haven't started going soon but will in the next couple of weeks. 2 classes a week should keep me kinda fit, I hope!

derah · 30/08/2007 21:39

Sorry, that should be DH is NOT impressed that I spent lots of money on a bike I'm not using....

And to add to my guilt at being so lazy, DD loves going to work on the bike, every day when we leave the house she shouts "BIKE BIKE!" and I have to tell her no, Mummy is too lazy/it's too cold/it's raining etc. Poor mite!
