Congratulations yardette. Twins! That's fabulous. Good luck to Derah and Monthlymayhem for your scans tomorrow and anyone else I've missed, sorry!
I'm a little concerned about some of the people we haven't heard from for some time, there are a lot of names on our list and I hope everyone is ok. Right I'm off to bed to attempt to read Deepak Chopra's Magical Beginnings, Enchanted Lives. If I get to page 6 tonight I'll be amazed. Good night all. X

HolidaysQueen · 03/09/2007 22:53

Hurray yardette!!! Glad everything went well and that you got a nice surprise! Good luck tomorrow derah and monthlymayhem. I'm off to bed now - knackered and lots of discomfort in my tummy today. My lovely comfy bed (and very cuddlable DH!) is very appealing right now! Night night...

iliketosleep · 04/09/2007 03:11

hi all and thanks once again wow yardette twins!!! congratulations times 2

monthlymayhem, im not sure about excersises, if you have been told that you can but are unsure then my advice would be to just do them but dont overwork with them, maybe if you do pelvic floors do a few sets of 10 throughout the day? Sorry i couldnt be more help

turtle23 · 04/09/2007 07:07

monthlymayhem...am going to a pilates class on saturday...if you can remember to remind me on friday i will try my best to remember to ask for you as pilates instructor is trained in these things. Can't promise I'll remember though, as I seem to forget a lot of things at the mo. Just hung up washing to discover DH's ipod in it. OOPS.
BTW all...have decided to give DH his one get out of jail free card and hope that he was in fact only taking phone flirting to a disgusting level and not doing it in real life. Baby too important and needs my focus. Still going to counselling, though.
OH AND CONGRATS CONGRATS YARDETTE!!!

cricri · 04/09/2007 07:28

Just been catching up with all your posts as I'm on holiday at the moment. Congratulations Yardette for our second set of twins! Great news from all those who have had scans recently and good luck to those who have them today. Mine is next Monday, just after I get back. At least being away is keeping my mind off it.
I'm in France so I'm not enjoying not being able to have all the lovely wine and cheese I usually indulge in when I'm here... Have had a couple of sips of wine though as I couldn't resist!
Re exercises on your back, my gym instructor is going to review my programme when I get back because she said that the exercises I usually do on my back (chest press etc) need to be done sitting up after 13 weeks. Not sure why it should be different for pelvic floors but I can ask her.
Hope everybody is OK and good luck to anybody else with scans this week!

iliketosleep · 04/09/2007 07:36

lol turtle you didnt realise his ipod was there huh sounds like some little revenge scheme to me

congratulations yardette - how exciting, i can't remember if you had a suspicion - two of them.....how amazing!!!

Good luck all for today and please post when you can...I spent most of yesterday waiting for news.

Hugs and happy days to all

PS my healthy day failed, how many m&S chocolate eclair sweets is healthy do you think. A friend of mine gave me a book on healthy eating when pregnant - she calls herself a friend, she's not been pregnant and it shows...it's so healthy it makes me sick just seeing the cover....no snacking and nothing yummy at all...yeah right!

yardette · 04/09/2007 08:13

Okay, I promised you more news when i could actually stand up straight, so here you go!
Went for our nuchal fold scan yesterday. Was very nervous beforehand. sonographer was wonderful, and I will never forget for as long as I live lying back, watching the screen, and him saying in a deeply Germanic accent ~"So... you have 2 babies. Or twins!"
Scan took ages - double the amount of measurements to take and Twins 1 and 2 were playing up and refusing to lie in a position that made it possible to measure. Sonographer even said we had naughty twins !!
So, they are fraternal twins - ie, two placentas two sacs. Sounds like they are more likely to be non identical, but could still be identical - have to wait until the birth!
I have no history of twins in family, and neither does my DH. Massive shock to us both. Coming round to the idea now - worried about how we'll cope, but we'll do it - there's no choice in the matter!
Petrified about the idea of natural birth, but also petrified about a CS and the post op down time when you've got twins to look after. Also petrifiede about practicalities of feeding two of them. BUT, me and DH are getting used to the idea, and suddenly start realising how much fun it will be as well. first few months are going to be hell, and we realise that, but it will be all worthwhile in the end!

My due date for 40 weeks is still march 13th, but obviously I wont' go full term, so we'll be a February birth. Obviously, I'm staying with you Marchers if thats okay.

told work yesterday - so all out in the open thank goodness. couldn't keep it all to myself after the news that there are 2!

One thing I can't believe is the fact that I was one of the ones who didn't suffer from MS and yet here I am with twins. I realise I am incredibly lucky and am not moaning, but it just goes to show you that you really can't tell anything from symptoms, lack of symptoms or anything else that is used as a guidance to your pregnancy.

Good luck to all of you with scans. Late for work, but hey - not every day you find out news like this.

#xxxxxxx

merryberry · 04/09/2007 08:13

oh great news yesterday from the scans
yardette, what kind of twins have you got, could they tell? xx

merryberry · 04/09/2007 08:14

oops, x-post! congratulations!

yardette · 04/09/2007 08:16

ps i had no suspicion it was twins because of lack of symptoms. i was more concernd that something had gone wrong because of lack of symptoms. The only sign that it could be twins is the rapidly increasing pot belly which really is growing at an alarmin rate. I'm normally a size 10/12 and weigh 60 kilos normally. CAn't fit into any normalpre pregnancy clothes any more at 13 wqeeks and I've put on 7 kilos!!!!

monthlymayhem · 04/09/2007 10:28

Hello

Just back from scan and it was fantastic!! Such a relief to see a little baby moving it's arms and legs, and heart beating away. Only one in there too which I'd started to panic about after hearing Yardette's news as I've had no ms either. It really is totally amazing to think the little baby on the screen is inside my tummy!

Measured exactly 12 weeks today so due date is 18th March.

Thanks for replies on exercises on back - I asked the midwife today too and got a sort of answer! They do recommend that you don't lie on your back once you have an actual bump, so that the weight doesn't impact the main artery and make you dizzy. However she said that really you can keep doing exercises on your back and listen to your body - if you start to feel breathless or dizzy then stop, and also it can help to have a cushion under your head or shoulders so there is a slight incline.

Derah, hope your scan has gone well too and anyone else having them today!

yardette · 04/09/2007 10:32

congrats monthly mayhem - really delighted for you!
xx

derah · 04/09/2007 10:43

Yay monthlymayhem! We had a great scan too, and also only one in there - phew! It was so lovely, first seeing the little baby shape on the screen, and then I just wanted to see it move to know it was ok and it did a little wiggle for me. But a lazy little baby - DD was bouncing like a jumping bean for her scan and this one was lying on its tummy taking a nap!! Baby wasn't in the right position for the nuchal fold scan so the sonographer had me lift up my bum and shake that booty until I shook it into the right position! Soooooo funny! So relieved and happy that all is well and baby is actually there and healthy. Plus we got 4 pics for free! Bonus! I had my bloods taken afterwards and the nurse was a bit fierce and I sprayed a fountain when she pulled the needle out. It still aches - ouch!

Right, I promised DD I'd take her to the park so we'd better get going.

See you later!

Congrats Derah, that's fab I had the nuchal fold measurement taken too and had to wait until baby had bounced around a bit into position!

iliketosleep · 04/09/2007 10:59

whats this nuchal fold scan and why havent i had one?

iliketosleep · 04/09/2007 10:59

oh and CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

MerlinsBeard · 04/09/2007 11:02

Glad your scans went well. AM lol-ing @ your relief there is only one!

Ilike, nichal fold is where they measure the thickness of your babies neck and use that in conjunction with the results of the 16 week blood test to determine your risk for Downs Syndrome. They don't offer it everywhere, i don't know f they do it here anymore. i know they did when i was PG with DS1 but can't remember with DS2

at least i think thats what they do with it, i could be wrong

imjin100 · 04/09/2007 11:18

such happy news today, brilliant. All go on the march thread - how exciting.
I shall have chocolate to celebrate.

iliketosleep · 04/09/2007 11:27

turtle23 · 04/09/2007 12:12

littleducks · 04/09/2007 12:40

Hiya everyone and congrats on positive scans and the twins!

Not to step on anyone toes, but a nuchal fold test is different from one where blood is taking, that is a triple test. I cut and pasted the below to explain the nuchal fold better than i can, i would normally link but all the pages i have found list alot of complications that could be found on scans and i dont want to worry anyone still waiting for their turn!

Some hospitals offer an ultrasound screening test called Nuchal Translucency or Nuchal Fold. The test is carried out between 11 and 13 weeks from the date of the last menstrual period (LMP). The ultrasound measures an area that appears as a black stripe down the back of the foetus. A combination of measuring the nuchal fold and the mother?s age will give a statistical probability about the possibility of Down Syndrome or other chromosomal abnormalities.

This was taken from an ivillage info page on pregnancy. I think the most important thing to remember, is that a nuchal fold doesnt give a diagnosis just a probability score.
