Hi Elb! So glad things are going well for you. I wonder if it's an age thing?? I am deffo more laid back with this pg than i ever was with my first, but maybe it was first time baby nerves etc?

jetgirl · 18/09/2007 19:28

At last; my DH took the computer to be mended on 6th Sept and we got it back today and I've been desperate to get on MN!
Anyway, it's been a very busy week. I had a growth scan last Monday to see if baby was small like my DD was (5lb 8oz at birth), and baby is measuring quite large (approx weight 4lb 3oz!). Saw OB who said she was happy for me to have vaginal birth despite 3rd degree tear last time as I'd healed well (though she didn't actually have a look), and then referred me for GTT because of baby's size.

So I freaked about that until I spoke to my lovely MW on Thursday who actually talked about the C-section prospect instead of skirting the issue like I felt the OB had done.

Had GTT on Friday and still waiting to hear results. I was gutted about the prospect of gestational diabetes as I eat healthily anyway - with only the occasional biscuit binge! - and I've done exactly the same this pregnancy as I did last time round.

And not having MN for the last week has made it even more difficult as I haven't been able to actually find any info until now! I didn't realise how much i relied on this .

Glad to read you're still pregnant Sparkly I too have made a start on Christmas preparations. I like to finish mine by the end of Nov anyway as I hate town in Dec, but my deadline is a little earlier this year!

Loopy - I have been doing my pelvic floor exercises anyway now, and there I was looking for the bright side of a section!

I finish work next Tuesday, can't wait! Two days a week will be mine, all mine, as DD will be at nursery. I'll probably veg on the sofa all day, or do my nesting thing, which last time was to bake endless batches of mint choc chip cookies. Not very useful, but very yummy!

Loopy, lol at you imagining your Dh's reaction to you having bedrest - my dh looked quite interested when the doctor said I had to stay horizontal as much of the time as possible...I had to disillusion him a little about that . Tbh I do think the doc is being quite overcautious - my bp was only 130/85 yesterday - but I am on quite a lot of medication to keep it low so maybe she feels it should be even lower. I started off tghe pg on one tablet a day of methyldopa and I'm now on 4 tablets a day, so it has been increased as the pg has gone on. I think the rest is more of a precaution - but how would I feel if I didn't do as the doc said and something happened to the LO - not good.

I'm actually quite relieved she recommended it as i ahve been feeling exhausted when I did stuff but then I felt guilty if I didn't do stuff around the house while dh was out at work all day (not that dh would ever make mje feel guilty). Silly to feel guilty I know, but I did - felt I ought to be getting loads done. Now I feel I have "permission" to rest.

So I'm lying in bed, have radio, TV, DVD player in the room and thank goodness for the internet!

AnnainNZ · 18/09/2007 20:50

And hello to thelady - Sarahlou, glad the test results were nothing major - and MrsJ, you're a brave woman having 60 odd people round - good on ya mate, as they say over here in the Antipodes

Hi all

Anna, glad the bed rest is proving relaxing and not frustrating!

Welcome, thelady, and ELB1. ELB- can't believe you've got everything ready already! Well done! We've done quite a bit but there seems to be masses to do still. I was worried about starting too early in case something went wrong - stupid, really.

Jetgirl, hope it isn't gestational diabetes.

I'm seeing the midwife tomorrow (34 weeks). At 31 weeks the lo was 3/5 palpable (so 2/5 engaged). I'm wondering what it will be tomorrow!

As for work, I don't commute - I drive into work with hubby at the mo; it's about a 15 min drive, max. However as of 2 weeks time I'm working from home and I can choose my own hours more or less - hence deciding to work later than most. This may change as work is v stressful this week and next so am a tad worried about my blood pressure tomorrow (has been fine all pregnancy, but..) and also I have inlaws coming on Thursday for THREE NIGHTS. Woe is me. I hope all goes okay with the mw as I don't want to hear that the prospect of my inlaws and another week of stressy work has sent my bp through the roof!!!

Hope you're all okayish!

silkcushion · 18/09/2007 22:08

MrsJ - did you say you were coming to chilly Gloucestershire? Not sure where you are now but I must warn you chilly Gloucestershire is bloody freezing. I've just put the heating on!!!!!

Hello to all else - too tired to write a proper thread - going to crawl into bed now so I can lie there all bloody night unable to sleep

sparklygothkat · 18/09/2007 22:10

looks like I might have to go in later, have had some contractions this evening, have taken painkillers to see if they stop, so will let you know what happening later

thelady · 18/09/2007 22:12

Thanks for the welcome!

We don't know what flavour - weren't particularly bothered, and the sproglet was being unco-operative at the scan anyway - but all the signs are that this might be a big baby .

Otherwise: not a lot bad so far - predictable swollen legs/ankles from about 22wks, odd GTT results (I didn't fail, but I didn't pass either...?), and just being tired/slow.

I'm recovering from a stinker of a cold, so spent some time this evening perched on the bed sorting through a load of baby clothes given by friends. Hope this is a girl - the pink stuff outnumbers everything else by a hefty margin!

Looking forward to getting to know you all.

AnnainNZ · 18/09/2007 23:58

GOOD LUCK SGK!

sparklygothkat · 19/09/2007 00:22

they went from 10 mins apart, to 20 minutes to 45 minutes, then stopped.. phew!!! Am about to go to bed and hope they don;t restart

littleoldme · 19/09/2007 00:29

Loopy - know aht you mean about being 30 weeks. I hit the big 30 tomorrow - well today now I s'pose. 12 - 20 weeks dragged and now time seems to whooshing by.

ELB - a belated welcome. Sounds like you are having a good pg which is fab news.

Anna- hope the bp sorts itself out. Sounds like you've got your resting space sorted - Tv DVD etc sound like the lair of a James Bond Villian

GOOD LUCK SGK

It IS freezing, here, as well. Was cold in bed. So much for pregnancy warmth. Hope the rest of you are okay!

I'm 34 weeks today. Have added myself to the list... I'm actually an Oct due, but 31st, so chances are it'll be November.

a quick check in to say hi trying to keep on top of the news but little time to post as DD & DS both have explosiveprojectilebothends tummy bugs Fingers crossed it'll miss me and all be clear by the w/e as we're supposed to be taking DD to uni!!!
Sparkly - glad to see you're still hanging on in there and I'm chuffed to bits for you about your sugar.
Anna - hope you're not too frustrated about resting.
MrsJ - get your jumpers ready...it's a bit nippy noodles here!!
Can't believe how quickly the weeks are passing now!I've less than 7 to go Hope you're all well.

RGPargy · 19/09/2007 11:06

Morning everyone

Sparkly - Did you get a half decent night's sleep?

Blimey, isn't it COLD!!! What's happened??? I dont know whether to put the heating on or not! It's certainly not cold enough to get the winter stuff out (not that anything would fit me atm!) but too cold to wear summer stuff. BBRRRR!!!!!

sparklygothkat · 19/09/2007 11:54

Hi all, did manage to sleep last night, and contractions have stopped, about to go out for lunch and then to the hospital for my scan and checkup, will ask them to check for infection, just in case its that triggering contractions.

mrsjetson · 19/09/2007 12:08

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! Please don't say that we are returning to the depths of mid winter already!!! Actually it'll be quite nice not to be sweating buckets daily. It is currently 34 degrees with 90% humidity! I have only just bought a load of 'lightweight jumpers' thinking I won't need to be buying big jumpers etc .....FGS I don;t even have a big enough coat!!!

Silkcushion - we are about 20 mins South of Cirencester. I see you are are in Glos too - whereabouts?

Loopy - washing up? No way. We are a little bit pampered over here so we had lots of people to help.

Finally found someone to help in the house/with the kids whilst I am back. DH will be back and forth so I am going to be on my own for 2 week stretches. As I am no longer on speaking terms with my mother and sister - BIG relief - no help there. DH's parents are not really 'that sort' to help out - very very sweet people but......

I HAVE to finish packing - I packed 3 suitcases yesterday - then realised I hadn't even done my things.

SGK - hope all's well with you now x

Take care everyone xx

LizzieO · 19/09/2007 12:13

HI all just a quicky
hope you are all well, hang on in there SGK,

Autumn is def here, yay i love it !!!! roll on LO coming, Bonfire Night , Halloween and Crimbo

I'm not actually feeling that great today, lots of really uncomfortable twinges, which i hope is just the LO lying uncomfortably, have dragged myself into work but methinks i am going to head back home again very shortly

hope you all have great days
Lxxxxx

choudru · 19/09/2007 12:18

Sparkly - hope you're hanging in there.

What do your contractions feel like? I have had a sleepless night. Before going to bed I had what I think was a contraction - pain across lower back and lower bump for about 15 seconds. Had another few during the night and I'm pretty sure baby has completely changed position. Still moving but a lotta lotta wriggling going on in there. Not so much kicking, but kind of sliding around IYKWIM.

Now I feel a bit tender around lower back and lower bump and the baby's movements are causing me a bit of discomfort. Add to that a bit of sickness and a headache. Is all making me feel a little uneasy.

I am hoping they were just BHs (never had any with DS so don't know what they are supposed to feel like) and that baby has just changed position.

Have decided to see how things go for the next couple of hours and if it continues to be all a bit weird I'll call the midwife.

In the mean time I think I will wax my legs he he.

choudru · 19/09/2007 12:20

Looks like all the premmie mummies are having weirdy days today. Hope we all manage to keep hold of our babies!

Good luck Sparkly and Lizzie!

Floanna · 19/09/2007 12:26

Hi all,

Sorry not posted for a while - been trying to organise myself for going on ML next Fri!! Can't wait now, I'm dragging my feet everywhere!

SGK - glad to see you're still with us and hope everything continues to go ok.

Can't believe those of you thinking about xmas - It's not even crossed my mind yet - oops! RGP - think you have the best idea, shopping online is the WAY FORWARD!

30+5 today and have birthing plan appt with MW next week - going to tell her that I'm adament about home water birth and my mind won't be changed - wish me luck and that I won't give in to her (they really don't like homebirths do they??!)

Ara - notice your posts about your DP - I agree with the others, I think classes would really help as it might encourage him to be more of a part of it, maybe he also feels a bit helpless?? If not, big hugs and you'll be fine without him - I'm on my own and I can't wait!!

Loopymumsy - that's all really helpful advice thanks - and I'll be getting straight back to you as soon as she starts trying to talk me out of it!

Hope all you premmie mummies are ok - you're doing great and not long to go now!!

Did anyone else get a fresh bout of hormones recently - I feel like I'm about to rip someone's head off today ...

mrsjetson · 19/09/2007 13:49

Loopy - do you think I'd be mad enough to have 4 little ones without help?? DH and I can just about manage on our own for one day with them - and there's only 3 at the moment!! I have the upmost respect for single mothers/married mothers with more than one child without help and those who, like me, feel completely and utterly out of their depth most of the time!!

Anyway I now have my letter from the Obs to say that I can fly - better late than never! Very exciting times ahead..........

Hope you all have good days ladies....xxx

Can you imagine what our conversations will be like in 3 months time?? Sore boobs, lack of sleep but PLEASE PLEASE no mention of the colour or smell of their poo! I can't be doing with that sort of detail!!
