Hi, thought I'd start a new thread. Hope ou find this OK!

Just been shopping downtown and bought a fab paid of maternity pants for work.

Also bought "The Baby Name Wizard" as Borders were having 20% off everything. Feel free anyone to ask me a question about names now!! The book categorises them into the following "style families" (chances are if you like one name in the family, you'll like a number of others - e.g. I tend to go for "Antique Charm" names for girls which include Abigail, Adeline, AMelia, Anna. Annabel, Annalise, Ava, Bella, Clara, Daisy, Eleanor, Emma, Eva, Georgia, Grace, Hannah and Isabel):
African, Androgynous, Antique Charm, Bell tones, Biblical, Brisk and Breezy, Celtic, Charms and Graces, Country and Western, English, The -ens, Exotic Traditionals, Fanciful, French, German, Greek, Guys and Dolls, Italian, Jewish, Lacy and Lissome, Ladies and Gentlemen, Last Names First, Latino, Little Darlings, Long Gone, Mid-Century, Modern Meanings, Muslim, Mythological, Namesakes, New Classics, Nickname-Proof, Place-Names, Porch-Sitters, Saints, Scandanavian, '70s and '80s, Shakespearean, Slavic, Solid Citizens, Surfer Sixties, Timeless and Why Not?

Violent - yep, tick that box!

Also getting very narked, very easily.... am biting everyones head off!

Im almost ready for Daniel to be born now - the constant wriggling, kicking, tiredness, stroppiness, pain etc is all starting to take its toll.... I WANT TO HAVE THIS BABY!!

{{ tells self 100 times over "13 weeks and 5 days to go"}}

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 21/08/2007 23:42

know how you feel jarm

im due 1st dec and am so FED up with waiting

buzzybee · 22/08/2007 07:15

According to the "standard" method of calculating I'm due 21 Dec (see here for a calculator. But according to the scan I had at 8 weeks I'm due 23 Dec. I'm actually inclined to think it'll be about 21 Dec (Saturday 22 Dec would be OK!) as last time I just used the standard method rather than a scanning date and I went into labour ON that date (but delivered next day). I wonder tho whether a different father makes any diff?

Neuro this baby was a surprise but as I had been investigating artificial fert options for some months previously I think its fair to say that I planned to have a baby some time this year! I always thought 4 years gap would be ideal (solely from my perspective) but am now reconciling myself to the fact that a third baby is very unlikely as I will be 38 when this one is born. I must say I'm very aware that my eggs are getting old with all the problems I've had this PG with Downs Syndrome risk factors etc. So I'd say that if you decide you like being a Mum when this one is born, then go for #2 as soon as you feel ready to cope with double trouble!

My boss just kindly dropped off the set of drawers I bought for baby's clothes (off eBay). Stoked they look great.

Neuro · 22/08/2007 10:46

Thanks for the advice Buzzy. I think you're right, especially as i am old in terms of my eggs! I am surprised (and still quite elated) I managed to get preggers so quickly (first time!) as I partied hard from 17 to about 32! But i've always eaten well, so i guess they all balanced out. Have to see what kind of chicken i hatch!

Ambi I am continually surprised by how tight most companies are. When you think of the tax that gets written off for company cars and expenses, and stuff like that, you would think they would put some aside for maternity. I think it's especially mean in your case as you've been there for 5 years! AND they can claim most of SMP back anyway. TIGHT ARSES!!!

Did anyone watch Tribes last night? The guy in it is SO cool. Phwoar.

Neuro · 22/08/2007 10:49

Oh yeah and on GMTV this morning that French bird that wrote a book on why not to have children. WHY write such a load of nonsense if you've had kids. What a nice mother she must be.

Must admit though, when she came up on screen i thought SHIT, SHE'S A MAN!

She did look like a man with a bit of red lipstick. And sorry to sound so picky, but what is the point of wearing bright red lippy if the rest of your face looks like you just crawled out of bed. Not a good look.

bitch bitch bitch he he

Neuro · 22/08/2007 10:51

JARM Nbg Beanstermum Cazzybabs Claraq

I am envious that you ladies are a whole month ahead of me.

I'll stop posting now and do a bit of work.

MotherofZ · 22/08/2007 11:24

Ok - dillema. I've seen the most fantastic brilliant job advertised which would be the next step up the career ladder for me and part time, but don't know whether to apply??? I think I am in with a good chance of getting it as it requries specific analytical and statitical skills, which I posses, but worried about what would happen to my maternity leave/pay? Plus am due to go on maternity leave in three months, so I don't think I would be their first choice...
Go for it or not?

cazzybabs · 22/08/2007 11:34

Neuro - he he he. Bad planning on your behalf my dear - I'll be drinking by Xmas (to help the baby sleep). I already have some red fizzy wine (the extent of my wine knowledge) and some champers lined up (I love bubbles)....

But I am really on 2 weeks ahead of you as I will be 11/12 days late and it will weigh 7lbs 12, as the other 2 have.

cazzybabs · 22/08/2007 11:34

MotherofZ - ~I went for a job and got offered it on the grounds I would start 6 months post baby. You can all but ask.

MotherofZ · 22/08/2007 11:37

cheers cazzy, but I don't think that will happen as they mentioned in the advert a September 07 start

Neuro · 22/08/2007 11:39

Cazzbabs how do you know when it will arrive and the weight?!

MotherofZ - you should go for it. If they like you, then they'll accept you are pregnant. And as it's part time then maybe it's pencilled out for a mother who also enjoys a career too. You've got nothing to lose by applying. And how exciting IF you got the job - new baby, new job too look forward to.

cazzybabs · 22/08/2007 11:39

It would also bugger up your maternity pay - you would only get SMP I think.

I suppose it depends upon how good are you as to wether they would hold it open for you and wethr of not something better would come up later.

Persoanlly I wouldn't, but then I need every penny of my matnerity pay.

cazzybabs · 22/08/2007 11:40

Well both dds were 11 days late and weighed 7lbs 12.

MotherofZ · 22/08/2007 11:48

The thought of a new job does excite me, but as cazzy mentioned, I also am in need of the maternity pay (it's not brilliant here - but at least my employer tops up the basic SMP amount- my DH place gets 9 mths full pay!!)
Think I will send an email off to express interest.

Neuro · 22/08/2007 12:33

but can't you still take your maternity leave (and whatever pay you get) and THEN say you're not coming back. I'm sure the law has changed now so that you don't have to decide til quite late on in your leave.

Mrswizz · 22/08/2007 12:34

OMG, I want to work where your DH does! I expect I'll only get SMP - we'll have a shortfall of cash for bills in our household of about £800 a month! Yep, looking forward to that one!

MotherofZ · 22/08/2007 12:44

Neuro - bit weird where I work as they will only suppliment your SMP with the extra money if you come back to work FT for three months. If you take the extra Maternity Leave money and not come back FT or leave for good you have to pay that extra money back! (Hope I haven't confused you!) Otherwise you just get SMP if you come back PT.

MotherofZ · 22/08/2007 12:46

DH works for a law firm and they also get full pay for paternity leave instead of the basic rate

Neuro · 22/08/2007 12:46

tell me about it. I'm going to be on the poverty line, so will be living with relatives otherwise I wouldn't be able to eat. Even though I work, have done for 20 years, and have bothered to save up and buy my own flat.

Looking forward to the Benefit Scrounger programme on tonight. Grrrrrr

mixedmama · 22/08/2007 12:48

I will only get SMP this time as temping. Last time my company was quite good. 3 months full pay and 3 months half pay.

Neuro - I dont think MotherofZ could do that as you cant be working somewhere else whilst claimming maternity pay, and since they would want her to start in Spetember she would leave before mat leave kicked in.

MotherofZ - one thing I would be cautious of is how you would feel if you got turned down, as it will play on your mind about whether pregnancy has anything to do with it. I applied for a promotion at work around this time, perhaps a little later and told that an external candidate got the job as they had more corp exp (she was 55 and I was 25) altho i had worked there doing the exact role for 3years as thay hadnt recruited and just left me to ddo it. they never mentioned the preg but i know in my heart of hearts that it played a part. I would have defo gone back there but after that just couldnt... was shattered, so worth thinking about.

Neuro · 22/08/2007 12:48

Confused. Is that, they supplement your income IF you go back to work after 3 months? If so, arent' they just giving you the SMP you'd get for 6 months anyway?

I don't know who these employers think will be paying their pensions when they're old!

I'm on my soapbox today

Neuro · 22/08/2007 12:49

Not confused now! Thanks MM
