Bettymamma - that is defo my intention with the bag. Was so happy that he went out of his way to get me something. He went all the way to Oxford from london as they have a designer outlet place there. He is not the most thoughtful man on the planet, in the nicest possisble way so I was completely satisfied with the card to be honest.

I had contemplated the home birth but our flat has such thin walls and DH is not keen - abit of a worrier in these ciircumstannces. Hadnt thought about NY being busy for ambulances, but that is so obvious really isnt it. I am trying to go for water birth at the hospital.

Naetha - that is quite early for birth plans isnt it (says she who has already typed hers up)!!! Last time my midwife didnt even address it until 38 weeks - yes 38 WEEKS.

Bettymamma · 14/08/2007 10:16

I did my birthplan on my own last time with no guidance or discussion with any midwife! (but a little help from miriam stoppard). I think they forgot about all that with my dd.

We had a fab time although can't think how we will cope when we go away again next year with 3
It was very hot and was lovely to get some sunshine and i seemed to tan really quickly this time must be the pg. Had loads of movements and seemed to balloon whilst we were away, jusat watched our video camera and i looked huge
Hope everyone else good am presumiong lots of scan coming up in next couple of weeks, mine next Thurs, am looking forward to it although don't want to find out what it is.
Anyone booking a 3d scan ?

mixedmama · 14/08/2007 10:27

My scan is not until 7 Spet ahhh 23 weeks say it everytime... i have got it out now.

We are thinking of gettin a 3d / 4d scan, but just got to get the money first... i love the idea of the dvd to watch back.

mixedmama · 14/08/2007 10:28

Bettymamma - birth plans tend to go a bit to pot anyway dont they. It is fun to plan tho.

Bettymamma · 14/08/2007 10:55

The midwife in the delivery suite pretended to read my birth plan and then reached for the forceps (I had written no forceps in bright red capitals across the top). Dh had to step in at this point.

Mixedmama - your scan is on my dd's birthday. What fun we shall both be having!

Lilyloo - had 3d scan last time - fabulous. Saving the money this time for a new cot!! Holiday sounds great. I have suddenly ballooned as well so don't worry.

Naetha ? the car sounds lovely, you should go for it!

MotherofZ ? my DP did not want to find out the flavour but I have talked him round, as I go mad for planning and will be able to buy in the correct colour! (well that was my excuse) But starting to think now that a surprise might be nice??

Beller ? Sorry to hear XP is being a I am not getting the line yet but my belly button seems to have doubled in size, its massive! Anyone else had this??

Mixedmama very jealous of the LV bag, you will defiantly be the envy of all the new mums to be in the hospital!

Bettymamma ? that?s a good point about hospitals being busy around New year I hadn?t thought about that.

LilyLoo ? Glad you had a nice holiday. I would love to have a 3 / 4 d scan if have the money. I was thinking of waiting till nearer the birth as they can get really good pics of LO?s face! The only thing I don?t like about them is the colour they are done in it looks funny!

Hope everyone is well today. I think I may finally have to consider maternity clothes in the next few weeks, my jeans are starting to feel a little tight on me! About time!

MotherofZ · 14/08/2007 11:18

completely agree nothing goes according to the birth plan. I wanted all the drugs going, and all I got was gas and air and then a shot of pethadine 2 mins before DD was born - so that never had a chance to kick in.

feeling really hungry already.....lunch time seems such a long way away.....

mixedmama · 14/08/2007 11:21

Cazzy well done for getting this far without maternity wear, I have been in them ssince about 7 weeks.... but only cos i aam slightly overweight anyway and wanted it to look pregnant rather than fat.

MotherofZ · 14/08/2007 11:23

was about to say the same - was in maternoty wear at 10/11 weeks

MrsBiscuit · 14/08/2007 12:06

Morning,

Quite envious of all your 20 week scans - still 4 weeks off mine. I'm meant to have a 16 week check up with the MW but she's on holiday for the next couple of weeks, and then we're away. Is it important enough to go to the local birthing centre and get a check up there?

MrsMcJ - Oz sorted. I was simply the most dispensible option, and cheaper than an external consultant , but they understand why I don't want to go. Besides, dh spends quite a bit of time away on his job and so I want to make the most of our time together before LO comes.

Naetha - car sounds good. We're off to do some test drives on Saturday, from the sensible to not-so-sensible (it keeps dh happy even if I know we'll end up with the practical one )

Cazzybaby - I got my first parcel from Blooming Marvellous yesterday and am now sitting here very comfortably in some maternity trousers. Word of warning though -their sizes are rather on the large side.

LilyLoo · 14/08/2007 12:10

Oh my god just what i need after feeling all relaxed from hols weirdo

MrsMcJnr · 14/08/2007 12:20

Morning ladies

Mixedmama ? Re the 3rd stage of labour - I think I am more interested in not getting the cord clamped too soon so that my baby can get the most of the blood and I know that is all related to the placenta?s delivery I learnt to drive at 30, too late if you ask me, I hate it, it stresses me out, I know I have to drive home from parties on both Fri and Sat night and I am worried about it already I do it if I have to and prefer to drive myself than have others in the car! Believe me 29/12 is worse than 31/12 ? no one ever wants to do anything on my birthday being a Scot, the culture dictates that you really go for it on 31/12 ? at least with a birthday that day you can be sure your friends will feel like going out partying! Nice that DH got you a card and a pressie Think I may have said before, I have a £50 off voucher for Healthcare Now so if you plan to have your 3d there, you are welcome to it.

Naetha ? hello I joined MN in June last year and I can?t believe that I have been posting for so long now! I wish I wasn?t frightened of childbirth ? I?m terrified Glad things were straight forward with the consultant, I guess an initial meeting gets you on their list I have a friend who is doing hypnotherapy for birth ? she thinks it?ll be amazing.

Hello Awen you posting under 2 names now!?

Bettymama ? I know what you mean we do have ages though don?t we? I?m 18 weeks today and my EDD is 5 months tomorrow that said, I am acutely aware that my EDD for the baby I lost in March is only 7 weeks away and the time has flown, even with all the happy and sad things that have happened in the interim. Your story about the MW and the birth plan is one of the main reasons I want a doula to help me fight my corner and so I can know the difference between essential intervention and whether or not I have a choice I know birth plans usually go out of the window but I think it?s important to have thought through your choices and fears beforehand don?t you?

Hello Gingeme Hello Cazzybaby

Mummy2tolitleprincesses ? don?t worry; there are lots of us waiting and quite a few of us waiting beyond 20 weeks too. I guess we should hopefully feel more movements before our scans and that will make the wait more bearable

MotherofZ ? that?s lovely so glad all is fine; it must be a great relief even if you have been there before

Beller ? sorry to hear that about XDP have you got a relationship with his mother? Maybe she?d know more anyway! Nope, no line on my tummy yet but you are a couple of weeks ahead of me but I do look like I have a nice tan ? anyone else finding their skin darker? Not complaining!

Lilyloo ? hello stranger! Glad you had a good time! and that all is well. Sorry about the call, that was horrible

Cazzybaby ? hello

MrsBiscuit ? I guess your MW appointment would have been to have the tests done for Downs etc or have you had them done already? If you want them done and the MW is away for a fortnight, it might be worth getting an appointment. Glad OZ is sorted It?s great moving into Mat Clothes isn?t it?

beller · 14/08/2007 12:34

Bettymama- Thanks hun, better to find out now i suppose!I too wanted a home birth and a couple of people have said that to me too...will speak to the midwife

Mixedmamma- I might speak to the midwife about hospital water birth...that would be my second choice if i cant have home?

lillyloo- I exploded on holiday too...I am in maternity clothes but a size or 2 smaller than normal (3 sizes in blooming marvelous!), weird! I have ben thinking about a 3 d scan, but not sure,....will see after my 23 week scan! Sorry to hear about you mad phonecall! have you called the police? I take it he was number withheld?

Cazzybaby- My belly button is bigger , but not popping out yet! Well done for normal clothes!!!! Bet you feel alot more comfortable when you wear the maternity ones

mixedmama · 14/08/2007 12:55

MrsBiscuit - i think you should contact the centre and ask them about an appointment, they may say it is not necessary and mine did seem a little bit of a waste, BUT we got to hear the heartbeat and also have blood tests for DS etc if we wanted so from that point of view, you may want to insist.

Most maternity clothes seem to be big to be honest, I always have to buy then two sizes smaller no matter where i get them from.

Lilyloo - about your call. I used to get those when i was younger. Absolutely awful as i knew the people who were behind them and they knew where i lived etc and all because I wouldnt go out with them or some such rubbish went on for about two years semi constantly so feel for you. Defo report it incase you get anymore and they ever find out who it is you will have a case. (hopefully just a stupid prank tho).

MrsMcJnr - yeah i see your point re: the cord blood, have just been thinking tho (and it is just a thought) about the amount of goodness LO will get from the cord (which i know will be good for them and is best to give it to them) and then the good that could come from donating the blood in terms of research and perhaps in the future saving someones life. i know my LO has to come first tho, but I would also like to contribute something overall and I think alot of good could be done. Havent made any decisive decisions tho, just a process. Even to perhaps keep the blood for LO in a private bank should they ever need it.

Thanx for the offer of the voucher. That is so nice of you. I will look into it and let you know as I am not sure whether we will ever get around to it, and dont want to take it and then not do it when someone else could benefit. So nice tho.

Birth plans are important, didnt mean to sound like they were a waste, as i said already done mine

mixedmama · 14/08/2007 12:55

I even done a CS version should this occur.

MamaMaiasaura · 14/08/2007 13:09

MotherofZ · 14/08/2007 13:11

mixedmama · 14/08/2007 14:02

Awen - can they do anything once you are there. Youc an just say you wanted to involved DC and mum is there to help so you and DP can enjoy. i am sure it will be fine. I want to take DS with us, not that he will understand - and I know he will want to touch things.
