MrsMcJnr - I'd definitely chase up on your pack. It could just be that they haven't got round to sending it. At the moment all the people who do the bookings are volunteers - the only NCT people that get paid are the antenatal teachers for the classes they do and the breastfeeding counsellors when they teach a class. They are changing the booking process next year to go to a national system where the booking clerks are also paid per course booked, which will also mean a standard service across the country and a more professional system. I was talking to our local booking clerk today - she spends about 15 hours a week on e-mails/post/phone calls which she gets nothing for (obviously expenses are paid but that's it)

I don't know much about water births - they seemed to be pretty ok about it last time at our local hospital - basically they said if there was one free you could have it, but I was rather attached to my TENS machine and didn't ask as it would have meant taking it off (or frying!)

I saw a pic in a parenting mag of a couple together in the pool with their newborn, and just thought - yuk! I can imagine me being in the pool and having a baby, there's enough yukky stuff involved whether you're in the water or not, but would DH really want to paddle in it as well? I think not!!

gingeme · 10/08/2007 20:45

mixedmamm you cant use 'those' while your pregnant!
I missed the debate youve been having about ff and bf. I was ff and have hay fever but I didnt develop it till my late 20's. My sister was bf and has both hayfever and excema. I think alot of it is to do with family allergies too though.
Congratulations on your anniversary motherofz. We celebrate our 6th anniversary on the 18th and Im usualy pretty stuck for gifts too.
Housemum I had a waterbirth with ds3 and Im going to have one with this beany too. My dh wasnt offered to take a dip though which I think would have grossed him out, and me tbh. I dont see what help it would have been him being in the water anyway.Although you dont actualy see any gross bits when your busy pushing and once you have that beautiful bundle in your arms. Its cleaned out so quick after too you realy dont see anything.
Anyway have a good weekend ladies.
Keep well and enjoy the sunshine.

sabinar · 11/08/2007 16:02

hello there. Just checking in to say hi! I've been off on holiday with my sister in Italy for the past couple of weeks - sounds great and it was nice, but she's exhausting to vacation with - she wants to do everything!

In that time I've managed to go from thinking I'd be able to wear my normal clothes forever to pretty much exploding and moving into the world of elasticised waists. Ahhhh... much better

I've also been having some pretty weird feelings in the general vicinity of where the sea monster is that, in the last few days, have definitely become movements and not wind or muscle stretching.

Super weird but also very cool. (Yes, you can tell I've not done this before).

I'm working today getting ready for a business trip to the States next week (leaving tomorrow morning). I still have a few more of these to do this year, I think the last one I have scheduled at the moment is in early November... I'm probably crazy to keep doing them, but I really enjoy them and don't want to give them up until I absolutely have to. I definitely try to sneak in an afternoon nap when I can tho!

Have been on the SpaTone since getting my blood results back a few weeks ago that indicated I was pretty short on iron. Have been amazed at the difference it has made to the energy I have these days. Much better (esp. if I get my nap!)

I'm looking forward to seeing my midwife again next week and the next scan coming up in a few weeks time!

Thinking happy and healthy thoughts for you all!

RavenclAwen · 11/08/2007 18:11

hello everyone only got back from wales a few hours ago and couldnt resist peeking on mumsnet whilst sorting out the shopping Am completely exhausted as was a nearly 6 hour drive back and very hot. We all had a fab time. Ds look very much the surf dude now, a honey tan and his long blonde hair. Spent most days at the beach with him on body barad and togged up in wet suit.

Baby seems to be fine, moving around as i type although np pattern to it. Have scan on Wednesday and will find out flavour then .

Attempted to read up on thread and failed, seems it has been very busy Congratualtions on scan Naethea, we have Dylan on our short list. Our friencdf had baby girl day before we left for hols, she is absolutely gorgeuas. They have called her the name we had in mind if we are havinga dd so not sure of girls name now.

Hoping all is well with everyone xx

MrsMcJnr · 11/08/2007 20:53

Housemum ? thanks for all the info about the NCT, I?ll make a note to chase if I haven?t heard anything by the end of the month. Re water births ? I was watching an episode of Birth Day Girls earlier and one woman had a home water birth and then invited her older kids in to see the baby, the little girl cut the cord and both she and her brother were seriously freaked at the blood in the water, you could see them looking at it and backing away ? did make me think that DH would be better on the outside

Gingeme ? I thought it was amazing in the water birth I watched how the baby?s head was out and that it was ok just to leave it there for more contractions for the body because it wouldn?t take a breath until it was out of the water ? the baby certainly looked more peaceful than the ones I?ve seen delivered on TV under the bright surgical lights! (bright lights give me a headache!)

Welcome back Sabinar shame the holiday wasn?t a bit more relaxing for you. Elasticated waists are bliss, don?t know how I?ll go back to rigid ones those movements sound exciting and I love the expression ?sea monster? I felt my first popping bubble last night until then it was just squirmies really. Exciting times! Hope the trip goes well, sounds like you have far more energy than me! What?s SpaTone?

Welcome back to you too RavenclAwen DS sounds gorgeous all the best for Weds scan I don?t think there is much to report really, most people are having their anomaly scans, some are finding out the sex. Most of us are now in mat clothes and feeling something even if we can?t be quite sure what it is!

gingeme · 11/08/2007 21:07

Oh yes babys deffo calmer with a water birth in fact ds3 didnt cry until he has his vit k jab. Thats why Im having another one this time. It was brill. You feel realy in control and you can feel every part of the little body being born. Its amazing. The only bit I didnt like was having to deliver the placenta out of the water into a little kinda bucket thing. Which wasnt easy while bf baby and balancing over this bucket. Sorry tmi Ill get back to my film now

MotherofZ · 13/08/2007 08:18

happy birthday mixedmama x

gingeme · 13/08/2007 10:06

Morning all. I had ds3 in hospital and will this time.
Many Happy returns of the day mixedmamma.
Well Ive just got back from an un official appt with my mw as I did a realy realy stupid thing yesterday.
I was in my kitchen with ds3 and ds4 was in the hall and the stair gate was closed. Trying to get through with a cup of coffee in my hand and trying to get ds4 to let go of the gate so I could open it. Leant over the gate to sit him down and the gate gave way with me falling on it and ds4 and the coffee being thrown up the hall!! I got myself up and quickly got ds4 who was yelling by this time. dh came and took ds4 while I ran him a cool bath and stuck him in. I sat on the loo and had a good cry. DS4 had calmed down once he was in the bath and seemed to have no ill effects from the fall. Thank goodness. I then ran myself a warm bath and just sat and reflected on how bad it could have been. Felt a few movements from beany but rang my mw anyway who told me to come and see her this morning. All is well. Heartbeat good and strong. I have a massive bruise on my right knee and a very sore right shoulder. Wont do that again. Must say I flt a right prat too

mixedmama · 13/08/2007 10:08

Ah Gingeme - glad you are ok.

Bettymamma · 13/08/2007 10:11

Happy birthday mixedmama

Hi to all hope you're all well

Been trying to catch up. Everyone seems well. Happy to hear you all have such sensible views about the bf / ff debate. I had such pressure on me to bf and my dd and I had such trouble with it and I was made to feel such a failure by the bf counsellors that I ended up expressing my milk for 6 months. NEVER EVER AGAIN.

MotherofZ - good luck with the scan. Am vexcited for you!

Wanted a waterbirth with dd but walked into the hospital 9 and 1/2 inches dilated so they didn't have time to turn the tap on.

Awen - welcome back! I was wondering where you'd gone. Can't wait to see what flavour you have on Weds!

Welcome back Sabinar too.

Had some potentially sad news. Its believed the bloke who sits opposite me at work's wife has had a miscarriage. He's not coming back in till Weds - hope its not true.

Bettymamma · 13/08/2007 10:12

oh gingeme - happy to hear you ok. Must have been a shock!

OP posts:
gingeme · 13/08/2007 10:20

Thankyou ladies. Yeah it was a shock. Am ok now though Ive got the ok from my mw. Im going to my parents for a few days tommorrow and dont think I could have relaxed had I not seen her. lo's ok today too. Just a bit of a bump on his head.
Good luck with your scan today
Motherofz . Got a couple of weeks till mine. Counting down the days I can tell you.

MrsMcJnr · 13/08/2007 10:54

Morning ladies well, I persuaded DH at the weekend to consider a Doula for the birth he has agreed! I have found one and am setting up a meeting I feel really positive about the impact a Doula would have on both DH and I also thinking I might skip the NCT classes as the Doula is an NCT trainer and can give tailored classes at not much extra cost, so might be worth going to the NHS ones and then topping up with some advice from her. Will let you know how we get on Felt a few bubbles popping this weekend along with the general squirmies.

Gingeme ? placenta bit sounds a bit acrobatic, why was that? So glad you and DS are ok, the fall and the shock must have been horrible

MotherofZ ? I am sure DH will be very happy with the jeans everything crossed for your scan!

Hey Beller ? still all choked up but it is a bit better today thanks that?s exciting about the movements The sailing sounded great

Mixedmama ? happy birthday

Bettymama ? hey there that?s really sad about your colleague

gingeme · 13/08/2007 11:07

I know MrsMcJnr I thought you did the whole birth in the pool, including the placenta but the mw said they like to deliver that out of the pool so they can monitor the bleeding. Because when only a drop of blood disperses in water it looks like loads. I was bf baby to help deliver it but that didnt work so I had to get into bed and was there about half hour before it delivered. They though I might have had to go to surgery to remove it but I didnt luckily. Sorry if this puts anyone off. Never happnend to me before The placenta has always delivered more or laess straight after baby. Doula sounds fantastic. I want to train as a Doula eventualy. I realy realy want to be a midwife but its quite a few years of training. Wtih Doulaing its realy flexible around your family life too. Was going tostart training when ds4 was 4 but then I fell for beany so thats gone on the back burner for now.

MrsMcJnr · 13/08/2007 11:36

I guess that?s true Gingeme, blood in water does look like loads and I guess they need to make sure all the bits are there. I am taking it from this that you opted not to have an injection to help deliver the placenta? I was wondering about that. I was also wondering how long they will let the baby stay attached to it after birth? Your placenta experience sounded scary, my friend (also a MNetter) had to have surgery twice, not nice. I think you?d make a great Doula you seem very nurturing and instil calm

mixedmama · 13/08/2007 11:50

I started a thread about the injection... will post the link - give me a minute.

Cazzybaby · 13/08/2007 11:52

Hello All, hope everyone had a good weekend!

I had a nice time in Liverpool (bar the 7 hour drive with no air conditioning). Family all very supportive about the baby, and my nan told me that she always hoped to be a great grandma and now she will be!

Beller - Glad you enjoyed the sailing! And that the weather was good for you.

MotherofZ ? Best of luck for scan today how exciting cant believe second scans coming round already!

Mixedmama ? Happy Birthday! Have you got anything exciting planned?

Gingeme ? Glad you and LO are ok after the fall, must have been frightening. I have been feeling a little off balance also recently, keep walking into things! Must have been nice to hear the heartbeat again!

Bettymamma ? Funny about not getting the tap turned on for the waterbirth last time, same happened to my mum! Will you try for one this time?

MrsMcJnr - Good news about the doula! I am considering taking having my mum with me at the birth for extra support but not sure yet.

Welcome back to everyone that?s been on holiday! Hope you enjoyed lovely weather and relaxing break!

I finally got my scan date through for next scan, its not until 19 th Sep I will be 23 weeks!! Seems like so so long to wait!

Naetha · 13/08/2007 11:55

Morning all, hope you had good weekends

Sorry about your accident Gingeme - I hope everyone involved (well, you, bean and DS!) are feeling better now

Happy birthday Mixedmama!

Good luck with your scan as well MotherofZ

Weekend was pretty high impact - we went looking at cars on Saturday - we're upgrading from our Vauxhall Astra to a newer car (and a diesel car) and we were thinking of going for something Mondeo sized, but they are absolutely HUGE!!!! Does anyone have any recommendations? We love the look of the Mazda 6, but its not cheap, and the Ford Focus and Vauxhall Astra are all a bit dull.

My mum came over to visit in the evening, and I completely exhausted myself tidying and cleaning before she turned up - I pulled all my stomach muscles hoovering and lugging boxes around! More fool me!

Had a lovely day yesterday though, went to the local agricultural show which was a great laugh, and then me and DH came home in the afternoon and had a nap for a couple of hours - we might as well do it while we can!

The movements are getting a lot stronger now - they actually feel quite uncomfortable when he gives my bladder a strong kick! Most of the time they're lovely though, if a bit surprising!

I have a consultant appointment this afternoon at the hospital - I've no idea what its for as I'm not high risk or anything, so I guess I'll find out when I get there!

Hope people are looking forwards to a good week

Bettymamma · 13/08/2007 11:57

I had the injection and didn't realise I had the injection or that i delivered the placenta. I was too much in awe of the strange alien looking creature that had come out of me to know what was going on at that point! My dh said he saw placenta and that it was gross. Bless him.

MrsMcJnr - doulas sound a wonderful idea. Sort of like an unjudgemental and helpful mum. I hope the meeting goes well with her.

OP posts:
mixedmama · 13/08/2007 11:58

I had thought about taking my mum as well as DH - I just have this thing about both my mum and DH seeing me naked / semi naked at the same time... just seems wrong. Each one by themselves, but not together. dont know why, as so many people do it.

Nothing planned Cazzy really. Off to lunch with some friends who work close by, only McD's or starbucks and then going to my cousins for dinner as DH is working till 8 and therefore wont pick up DS till later. It was DH bday last monday and our anniversary on 27th so once my parents get back from hols we might see if they willhave DS for the night and do something to celebrate everything together.

Just wanted to second the fact that i think you will make a great doula Gingeme.

beller · 13/08/2007 12:08

Gingeme- glad your ok..I must admit, im feeling a bit more clumsy too...keep tripping up or over things My friend has just trained as a Doula and finds it really rewarding! x
Mrsmcjnr - I was going to have a doula as well as no mum or parnter..but sister has stepped up to the challenge, which is lucky as I couldnt find a doula nearby that was available!
Naetha- I am looking for a new car too.....convertable Beetle as much as i love it..is not practica for babybel! Everyone keeps telling me to get a focus too...but like you..not sure?
Cazzybaby- my scan ill be a day off 23 weeks too....would much like it earlier
xx
