Hope this works....! Here's hoping July is the month for

  • proper bumps not fat looking tummies
  • feeling them move!

Kerioke I've not bought very much at all in fact all I've bought is a little fleece suit, a pack of newborn nappies (biodegradable ones) and a few toiletries. I have written a list though!
JARM congrats on the scan!
MotherofZ - poor you hope you feel better soon
beanster welcome back!
Neuro - I live near Stockton-on-Tees where there is a replica of the HMS Bark Endeavour...
Buzzybee - I paid £20 for mine so that sounda bout right, they do vary widely in price. Were you looking on ebay?
And hello to everyone else!

thelady · 09/07/2007 20:00

Bought: nothing at all! It's not that I'm superstitious - more that I have absolutely nowhere to put baby stuff at the moment.

JARM · 09/07/2007 20:01

We've got a few bits. Still had cot and moses basket, but got rid of all the clothes 6 weeks before falling pregnant! Typical!

Managed to get some bargains at the car boot sale yesterday - as new clothes, a bag full for £5!

BeachBunni · 09/07/2007 20:13

Fantastic news on your scan JARM.

Kerioke - I haven't bought a single thing either. I'm going to wait until I get my 20 wk scan, a bit superstitious. Going to visit my mum and dad next month so it will give me the perfect excuse to drag them round the shops. And for a change it won't be for shoes and handbags!!

IAmAwenSoNobOffIWasHereFirst · 09/07/2007 20:49

JARM - Fantastic news on your scan Any pics??? We have ours in 5 weeks seems like an age away! Have a 2 week holiday before that.

Bouncingturtle · 09/07/2007 21:18

Yes we want pix!!

mad4girls · 09/07/2007 21:33

aww jarm im soo jealous

just over a week til my scan

im feeling really nervous were you the same keep having nightmares that the lo has stopped growing or there is no heartbeat because bubbles doesnt seem to move much not sure if that means my fibroid is inbetween baby and me or its all my extra layers of flab gettingn in the way im surei felt more kicks at this stage with the others.

been using my hearbeat monitor thingy and still cant hear anything thinking the same reasons as above but still very worrying

anyway on a better note when at toys r us on saturday i eneterd a competition for mother and baby and they rang this morning to say i won 5th prize of a cot bedding bale, well no complaints there, i dont think ive ever won anything before

hope eveyone is ok, and is anyone else worrying about scan/heartbeat etc? please tell me im not crazy

suey2 · 10/07/2007 08:00

I have been worrying too- and having nightmares that he/she is not ok when born but, i can definitely feel it every day now- wasn't sure at first, but it is far more lively

MotherofZ · 10/07/2007 08:12

Suey2 and mad4girls - same here - am on the worry boat too. Getting worked up a little about this stomach bug - really bad cramps last night - so going to see the midwife today - hope it's nothing.

Jarm - congratulations on your scan - got to wait until 13th Aug for mine - agggggeeeesssss awwwaaayyyy!!!

Hello everyone else - hope you are all well and blooming...

peanutbutter · 10/07/2007 08:17

well done JARM - can't believe some of us are at that stage already!!

Mad4girls - you're not crazy we're probably all having those thoughts and fears to one degree or another, i know i am, it's natural. Only a week til you have your scan and you'll feel so much better when you see the little one there on the screen

We haven't bought anything yet but we do have a lot of things left over from ds and my best friend is waiting in the wings with lots of pink stuff if this turns out to be a girl (she has two daughters and has kept some things for me on the off chance!). She's also lending us their double buggy and junior bed for ds so we're very very lucky. All that said though, i'm really really looking forward to going out any buying something lovely and soft and gorgeous for this baby .

Looks like we're set to have the first rain-free day in bloody ages here - wish i was at home playing out with dh and ds...knowing my luck it'll be raining again when i finish on Wednesday

dazedorconfused · 10/07/2007 09:23

Is anyone having trouble getting DH to join in with name chat? Keep trying to talk to him and he keeps saying, "oh we don't have to think abou that for ages!" He's absolutely supportive and excited about bump but its annoying me that he won't give any thought to it.

Am I being emotional over nothing? We gave dd a bit of an epic name (never know if you're going to have a second!) so feel we have to give some thought to next one to be fair - or rather equally unfair in giving it a daft long name too!

Can't remember if he was this helpful last time!!

claraq · 10/07/2007 09:25

Jarm - just saw on the other thread that you have chosen Emma as your girl's name. GOOD CHOICE. That is my DD's name and I love it. She was going to be Lauren up until the last minute and then when she was born we decided on Emma Lauren and it suits her so well. Lovely classic name that's not overly popular and won't "date" if you know what I mean.
Now we are struggling for a girl's name this time round....
Congrats on your scan - mine is this time next week........

claraq · 10/07/2007 09:28

Dazedorconfused - I just keep a running list of names I like and every so often ask DH whether he likes one and if he does add it to my short list (although they often then come off again so at the moment I think we have a short list of err one, which will probably come off soon).

You probably won't want to make your mind up until the last moment anyway. Plus your DH will probably agree to anything once you have been through childbirth so bear that in mind!

dazedorconfused · 10/07/2007 09:48

I think its because the main area of debate is middle names which I think he thinks is boring!
Boy first name agreed as its the leftover name from dd! Girls we have 2 in the first name shortlist but we need two middle names.

We gave dd family names - do you think we ought to give second family names too - not bothered about extended family having their box ticked but wonder if child will feel first had significant names (after fil who has passed away(yes it is a boys name!) and grandmother)and they were named after corrie stars!!!

Nbg · 10/07/2007 09:52

JARM, great news. Glad to hera all is well. Good job you couldnt find out the sex then, having a little buddah in there

I have mine on Friday! Eeeeeek!

Dazed, my dh is like that with names. It doesnt get discussed until the 20 week scan lol. So far any names I have suggested have been met with just a no

claraq · 10/07/2007 09:52

What are your first name choices and I am sure you will get some suggestions for middle names from this board! Or on the pregnancy board. I am trawling all name threads at present for inspiration - lots of good suggestions there...
Wouldn't worry about dc2 feeling upset at not getting significant family names. They probably won't ask where their name came from until they get to about 13, by which time they'll hate you anyway.

Nbg · 10/07/2007 09:53

lol Clara

dazedorconfused · 10/07/2007 09:54

NBG - how annoying is that plain no! DH is the same, I try with at least a reason why its a no, too trendy, other child called it etc
Scan on monday so maybe he'll tune in a bit more then. Good luck with yours xx

dazedorconfused · 10/07/2007 09:57

Alexia or Xanthe. DH likes first I like second.

claraq · 10/07/2007 10:06

Oh oh I think I may have to agree with your DH... Xanthe is pretty but your poor daughter would spend her whole life spelling it out!!!

dazedorconfused · 10/07/2007 10:11

Very true Claraq - boys name is Hugo, much easier and when he's older if he doesn't like the go-go bit he can go with Hugh.

Nbg · 10/07/2007 10:24

I like Esme so far.
I cant come up with boys names at all. It took us forever to pick ds's!

claraq · 10/07/2007 10:33

I like Hugo I also like Hughie or Huey. But we are probably going to go with William Thomas as that's our dad's names.
Esme is gorgeous but DD is Emma so we need something a little different. Were discussing Megan last night but can't decide if too common? I like it shortened to Meg. Also like Freya but ditto too popular?

suey2 · 10/07/2007 10:44

cant really think about names yet- still too unreal. I think we may start discussing it after our next scan in 2 weeks: but really in no hurry. Occasionally DH will come out with 'i really like ** for a boy' but that is as far as we have got. I haven't bought anything for the baby either, yet! Guess i don't want to personalise it until I know all is ok on the scan

Beanstermummy · 10/07/2007 11:02

With you Dazed on this one. DD is called Eilidh (pronounced aylee) and having given her a very scottish (scottish for Helen BTW) name we feel obliged now to give Button Babe one too. Chose Eilidh as it was unusual but at least having moved back to Scotland shortly after she was born she shouldn't have too spell it too many times (there are the odd few others of the same name around us) - but had we stayed in England - Very different story I suspect!

Laughs now - at her Christening when all family were togehter, DN (6 at the time) announced that BIL calls her 'eye lid' - used to call her alien but now Eye Lid - you can imagine, MIL not too imnpressed, BIL dying at the dinner table and DN wondering what he'd said that was so funny

For what it's worth, a friends' DD is Esme and it's lovely name - like Alexia too - we're thinking on the Alex lines too (DH middle name). Also have the issue of old clan warfare (!!) which means names like Campbell and Fraser are not allowed with my DH famiy name as they were on opposite sides at one point or another - according to DH anyway - I give up sometimes

Seem to remember going round the houses for months and months but all just came together when DD was born
