Hope this works....! Here's hoping July is the month for

  • proper bumps not fat looking tummies
  • feeling them move!
OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Neuro · 12/07/2007 19:48

Suey2 i am a wee bit scared, but life felt a more scary prospect when i thought i might not get around to having children.

The thing i am mainly scared about is not having enough money to pay my bills and not having a man/shoulder to cry on at home when times are tough.

I am totally excited about being a mum though and share your sentiments about being ready for the challenge.

All i meant before is that i know people who have had kids and now treat their lives as if their kids have stopped them doing anything, whereas my single friend (who rates bfeeding) has raised two girls on her own and taken them everywhere with her from when they were babies.

cazzybabs · 12/07/2007 21:17

Pecka - I think it is number 3 - tummy muscles are no more . I am about the same size as you. I wasn't even showing at this point with dd1 or dd2 double . Mind you - god knows what I will be like with number 4!

Housemum · 12/07/2007 21:36

Ok, so anyone got the energy to scroll down for the last dates list? I was trying to compare & contrast bumps with Pecka as I'm almost 16 weeks but couldn't see your name on the list I looked at. Anyone fancy copying and pasting as I really must get some housework done to make it look as if I've done something today before DH gets in (DD1 and I had a shopping trip in town after school followed by Pizza Hut - hmmm, not exactly economising then after I've spent £50 in New Look , £5 in H&M and a tenner in Qube shoes plus the pizza..)

kerioke · 12/07/2007 21:37

evening girls... MAD4GIRLS my boys are tyler, 7 and phoenix, 18 months. your girls?? I also agree to breastfeeding being a tad easier to deal with mentally if you are 100% committed.. the main reason i gave in 2nd time round was because it was 4 in the morning, phoenix had been screaming for ages, my boobs were sore, he wouldnt latch on..... and..... i had a box of baby milk in the cupboard. maybe if that hadnt beent he case we would have got their like i did with tyler 6 years before.. but hey who knows!

MACDOODLE i've suffered with thrush with this pregnancy so far too... i got a prescription in the end it was cream for the nether regions and a tablet too.. cleared up really quick and i have more for the next itchy strike! i do agree that natural yoghurt is a god send in the short term though!

PECKA maybe I am just overly huge and carrying to many calories but i think you have a lovely tidy little bump. though to be honest when it comes to bumps i dont panic anymore when comparing... it took 3 pregnancies but my midwife finally explained that i come out front quick because the distance between my br4east bone and pelvis is small.. so baby etc has no other way to go than forwards... this is also why some people hardly show and some pregnancies go un noticed... gee i feel chatty tonight! sorry guys!

MamaMaiasaura · 12/07/2007 21:49

I can never keep up with this thread so just thought I would pop on and say hi. Bump getting bigger, bought lovely wrapround dress from blooming marvelous today. Also they have a sale on and got a vest top Very tearful atm . Feeling flutters and looking forward to antenatal on Tuesday as might get to her heartbeat.

PeckaRolloverAgain · 12/07/2007 21:54

Im not on the list (never added myself when I was worried about miscarrying and never have!)

Im due 27th so 16 weeks today!

MamaMaiasaura · 12/07/2007 22:00

thelady · 12/07/2007 22:01

OK folks: I need a pep-talk.

We've just OK'd the sale of our lovely hotel. After three years, loads of work thespread.wordpress.com and more money than I like to think about, we're pulling the plug. We haven't told the staff yet, so if you know the area please keep quiet for a week or so until we've managed to speak to all of them!

We've learned lots, and it needs both of us to make this place work, but from Nov. I'm going to be, at best, part-time. We're going to lose 1/3 of our capital, which isn't good, but even if we managed to double the turnover (not possible in a resonable time frame, trust me) we'd not actually get much more for the place. This was meant to be a 10-year plan....

I know it's the right decision, but coming on top of all the other changes (including the wonderfully unexpected pregnancy) it's really getting me down.

Any tips for dealing with stress when you're either at work or asleep? I'm afraid I tend to go for the escapist option and either read or mooch around the internet, but neither is working at the mo.

Loucee · 12/07/2007 22:11

not sure if you "do" them but here's some {{{hugs}}} Thelady. It must've been a hard and emotional decision to sell the hotel.

Relaxing, hmm not one of my strong points but I think you are in need of lots of TLC. How about a nice long relaxing bath with lots of scented bubbles and some smooth music. Visualise a lovely holiday of your dreams and lapping waves at the beach. Breathing techniques will probably help you as well - nice long smooth inhalations through your nose to really fill your lungs and exhale through your mouth with a gentle breeze.

MamaMaiasaura · 12/07/2007 22:13

How about a weekend 'away' from it all?

cazzybabs · 12/07/2007 22:18

but awen Pecka is not a 1st timer (you aren't are you??)

kerioke · 12/07/2007 22:23

thelady... have a think about all the things over the last 3 years you would have liked to have done but havent had the time for? simple things like a day out or lunch with the girls. is there a new eaterie, attraction or even shop that has opened that you just havent got around to yet? a family member or friend you havent seen for longer than you'd like??

maybe by doing some of these 'simple things' would help take your mind off all the changes going on. you have made the decisions and some other changes (like the pregnancy) bring about inevitable events.. maybe take some time out whilst you can (would it hurt to take an extra afternoon off a week?) and just enjoy being you for a little while, not a business women, wife, mum to be etc but you...thelady xxx

MamaMaiasaura · 12/07/2007 22:40

you profile said no children. Sorry. Am off to bed pretty soon. That is about the 3rd time i have fucked up on here. A wee bit sensitive at the moment.

thelady · 12/07/2007 22:41

Loucee: the bath idea sounds lovely. No music unfortunately (staff bedroom next door and don't want to disturb them) but bubbles and hot water do sound good! DH has offered to do the last bit in the pub tonight for me (wonderful man) to help me try and calm down too.

Awen: the problem with a 'weekend away' is that we're a hotel.... Can't really run away when the place is at its busiest, and if we're not here, the place is shut . We each get 3/4 of a day off a week, but not together, once we've done breakfast and check-out together.

We've a week away booked in Nov. but as I'll be 36 weeks by then, I'm not sure we'll make it.

PeckaRolloverAgain · 12/07/2007 22:42

hey no worries awen, i was probably having a bad day when i set my profile up and lied about their existence

night night, sleep tight xx

mad4girls · 12/07/2007 22:42

kerioke-that sounds just like my version of giving up with dd2

my 2 girls are Olivia 7 and Hollie 5 on wendesday, her party on saturday just been doing party bags cant beleive my little baby is 5 yrs old, Olivia will be 8 before lo arrives provided lo doesnt come more than 2 wks early

think they are both looking forward to it, im just pleased Hollie is happy as she had a hatred of babies until about 2 days before we told them, its quite hard on her as dd1 speaks to her dad regularly(he lives in scotland) but dd2 has no contact with her dad(his stupid choice) so im really aware of making her included in everything, but she seems excited and often gives my bump kisses and cuddles

thelady-sorry you have to make this hard decision, but you obviously believe its for the best, and you have many exciting things to look forward to it, no tips for relaxing im afraid, my minds always on the go, still havent learnt to switch off.

thelady · 12/07/2007 22:43

Not expecting to be out of here any time soon, tbh, as hotels generally take a min of 6 months and up to 2 years to sell. Once we're out, yes, it will be lovely to have some time together with the wee one, and not have to deal with the public for 18 hours a day every day

buzzybee · 13/07/2007 07:10

thelady, my only suggestion is that if you wake in the night, don't fight it read a book until you feel tired again.
Just realised that baby's father already has a daughter called Alisha so really don't think Amelia is a good idea, too close. He might not choose to have anything to do with the baby but I'm guessing his/her sister might want to one day! Anyone like Abigail/Abby?

MotherofZ · 13/07/2007 08:37

Is anyone else out there nervous about having a second one?

I remember the first couple months when DD was born and it was a blur of exhaustion, feeding and sleeping when you can.

Was up last night thinking how am I going to cope with DD who will be 2 and a newborn??

buzzybee · 13/07/2007 09:08

A little I guess but I'm the eternal optimist and believe I can "project manage" may way through most things. Plus my DD is 5 now and will be almost 6 so that makes a big difference. The first 2 weeks is almost a complete blackout for me but after that things seemed to settle down.

skidaddle · 13/07/2007 09:10

motherofz - yes I have these little waves of panic about no.2 too. All this great advice about sleeping when your baby sleeps and doing nothing but feeding for the first few weeks - well you can't do that with number 2, can you? I think part of the panic is knowing how hard it is (don't think you can quite imagine it until it happens) and then multiplying it by 2!!! But people manage it all the time and we will too. I reckon the first three months are horrendous and then things calm down a bit and after a year you start reaping th e benefits when they start playing together and you can put your feet up - I'm holding our for that part

thelady - don't know if it's your cup of tea but I always find a crossword or sudoku very relaxing as they actually occupy your mind and stop you thinking about whatever is stressing you out, although a bath is lovely, you might just find yourself lying and there and worrying!

buzzy - I quite like Abby, although I know quite a few of them so don't know if it's getting really popular (but maybe not where you are)

macdoodle - me too with the thrush - I'm sure I've already mentioned my 'garlic up the fanjo' cure on here - has always worked like a dream but not this time - might have to go and get some proper treatment. White vinegar is supposed to do the trick as well although not quite sure what you do with it - sprinkle??!
